My second visit to Great Harvest so Sister could get some Savannah Bars and sourdough bread and sample some items. The restaurant was pristine clean as always including the unisex bathrooms. The decor is cheerful and the staff are consistently friendly and kind. I avoid baked goods and can't speak to the food except that my Sister loves their offerings! I visited here a week or so ago wanting to try some of their baked goods. I'd read they'd recently reopened under new ownership and had been hearing positive things. We have so many wonderful options for baked sweets and treats in Huntsville, but I'm happy to report that I can add GHB to my list of recommendations too! This shop is located in the same center as Char, Chop n Fresh, and Chuy's (lots of C names, haha). I do find the parking consistently a little challenging in this shopping center, but there is an adjacent parking deck that makes things a little easier. GHB is on the far end from the street in a corner. The inside of the shop is small but there's a few spots to sit and hang and I did see a gentlemen on a laptop doing just so. I imagine it stays fairly quiet inside so it may be a good place to work or study. They offer freshly baked loaves of bread, deli sandwiches and soups, and sweets, like scones, cookies, and muffins. They have an espresso machine and a coffee menu too. It was hard for me to tell if they offered iced coffee (I don't drink hot coffee usually) as the words on the menu were a little small for me to see without glasses, but next time I go I will ask. Too late in the afternoon anyway. :) The lady who greeted me and rang me up was personable and happy to tell me about the product without overselling or making me feel pressured. I got the impression she was the owner or manager, but I'm not positive. She was lovely. They have a bread board with samples of their bread you can take for free any time you come in. Yay! They are now selling a chocolate chip peanut butter bread that I HAD to taste. It was delicious! Soft and slightly moist with a nice crust. I think if I had to sum up their offerings with one phrase, it would be: "Not too sweet!" This is a plus for me, since it allows you to taste all the other flavors in the product and isn't overwhelming or cloying. The bread wasn't too sweet and would make a great breakfast toast with peanut butter and bananas. Sadly, I didn't buy any loaves of bread because we are very bad about not finishing loaves in my house, lol. What I did buy was a cinnamon scone, a chocolate chip scone, and a carrot and walnut muffin. I saw a yummy looking power bar type of thing on my way out after I paid that looked delicious. Will be back for that. Our favorite item was probably the chocolate chip scone! It was semisweet and soft and delicate without being too crumbly. Really delicious, especially heated up! The carrot and walnut muffin was a sleeper hit! I didn't expect much but honestly it was a great snack! The carrot shreds added a lot of moisture (in a good way!) and a great texture. Plenty of walnuts and a subtly sweet, subtly nutty flavor. The cinnamon scone was also good but not quite as good as the other two items. It was a little on the dry and crumbly side. However, that may be down to our error - we ate it a day or two after purchasing it. I'm sure it was better fresh. I will definitely return for more muffins, scones, and the power/savannah bar! Looking forward to trying new things and hopefully getting an iced coffee too. Plus more samples of chocolate peanut butter bread could never be a bad idea. :) Thanks and well done, GHB! read more

I really love this little cafe. Super good breads. So good that the sandwiches they make with them are stupendous. So far I've tried the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on sourdough which was very good. At the same time my wife tried the kickstarter sandwich on a Canadian bacon cheddar biscuit that the owner, Kaleb, recommended, and boy, did it steel the show. Today, for lunch, my wife and I tried something new. My wife got the Harvey's chicken salad sandwich on the cranberry walnut bread, while I got the roast beef. Both were delicious, but to tell the truth I would've took my wife chicken salad over everything else. It was amazing!! To top it off, the crew helped and were so happy to do so. They were very friendly overall. So I will be back for sure, and I'll probably bring my wife too. read more

I don't normally review chains. I prefer to review mom-and-pop coffee shops, but this is a great little cafe, and my husband and I have been twice so far. I'd say they're actually 4.5 stars, but I round up for Yelp. Pros - Conveniently located close to the mall and other outdoor shopping centers. - Lots of bread, cookies, scones, and other pastries. - Lots of great breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and the breakfast options are served all day. - Excellent service* - Good coffee with a decent selection of flavors. - A menu on the board and paper menus. - Self-serve water (with ice!) Cons - They give off a little bit of a "chain" establishment vibe, though some efforts have been made to make the place a little cozier. - Paper cups (and flimsy straws) - The coffee was a little tepid - Closed on Sunday - No outdoor seating (doesn't bother me but I have to mention it because some prefer it). My cons are minor because my husband and I really like this establishment. They do have really good sandwiches and my husband loved his Savanna bar. We've only been twice, but the owner was there both times. *The first time we were there, he overheard my husband mentioning that he had his heart set on a sandwich he saw on their corporate website. This franchise branch did not offer that sandwich, so he was nice enough to give us a card for a free sandwich the next time we came in, which was really sweet of him. The next time we came in, the owner was working behind the counter, and he was doing a really excellent job making sure the tables were clean, keeping the water cooler filled, and making sure everyone was enjoying their orders. So, even though we don't frequent many franchises for local coffee, I would absolutely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area and want a really good sandwich or some coffee. I think they really deserve a lot more business. read more

What a surprise! Tucked in all of the little shops across the street from Whole Foods is a small bakery. The first thing you see is a sign on the front door stating that they grind their flour fresh. This really intrigued me and pushed my expectations through the roof. The menu is on an electronic board behind the counter. The screens were changing too fast for us to read - just ask for a menu and save yourself the frustration. The menu is small and consists of a handful of hot and cold sandwiches. I did notice a breakfast section and a small specialty coffee section but I don't recall seeing anything else but sandwiches. I also didn't see a single gluten free item-not even the old standby salad. My husband ordered the Turkey Goddess. Piled high with deli turkey, cheese and the usual fixings, there also was an avocado goddess spread. I'm not sure what was in it but it was delightful. I had the BLT. This was a traditional BLT so full of perfectly crisp bacon that it was falling off of the sandwich. We were able to choose our bread for each - there wasn't a terribly large selection of bread, and it wasn't even noon, but the bread we had was uber fresh and just plain awesome. The sandwiches were quite large and we ended up taking half home. They also came with a crunchy dill spear. Next time I think I will ask for the avocado goddess spread on my BLT. There were several vegetarian options and a few baked goods available. I really should have tried the lemon bar but my conscience won out on that one. The dining area wasn't particularly cozy but it will be just fine on my next visit with my girlfriends. read more

Great Harvest is a hidden gem of Huntsville. You are greeted with a free slice of bread or one of their homemade pastries! Who doesn't love that? The sandwiches are unique and delicious and well-made. The turkey goddess is a personal favorite. The bread is wonderful every time and we often leave with a loaf! We love the cinnamon chip and sourdough for every day, and their specialty ones always fun to try! We're excited to frequent this restaurant and look forward to their growth in Huntsville! read more

I'm a sucker for fresh bread so I'm happy about the new Great Harvest Bread store in Huntsville. I ordered three loaves of sliced white bread and one loaf of cinnamon swirl bread. I gave two loaves to my neighbors and kept one loaf of white and cinnamon swirl bread for me. I'll use the white bread for sammies and have the cinnamon swirl for breakfast toast. Since the new owners took over, this is our family's very favorite bakery in town! I love that they give samples as you come in -- really helps our littles to wait patiently for our order, which is never a long wait anyway. My favorite is the honey whole wheat slathered with butter, and the kids' vote is the cinnamon chip. We always end up buying multiple loaves to bring home. Can you say YUM to cinnamon chip French toast?? I love their soups and sandwiches also. The chicken salad is my fav. There are some good things about this bakery and some not so good. We went in today for lunch for the first time. We also went to buy some bread. Service was good. She answered all the questions we had about the bread. We picked out the bread and then gave our order for lunch. I picked out a sandwich that had nothing but cheese meat and mayonnaise on it. I made sure I ordered nothing with onion since I am allergic to onion. And, no I didn't tell her no onion since there was no onion listed. We also ordered unsweet tea which she said she had. The bill comes up and it only allows us to put a 15% or 20% tip. It doesn't allow for a fill in amount. So we either have to pay a tip on all the bread we bought to take home and lunch or we leave nothing at all. Since we weren't going to give her a tip for the bread we were taking home, my husband gave her cash. She brings our lunch out and they've put onion tomato and lettuce on my sandwich. Again, no there was no onion lettuce or tomato listed on the menu for the sandwich which is why I ordered that particular sandwich. She didn't bring our drinks so we ask about our unsweetened iced tea. And she said oh yeah let me go get it. She then comes back and tells us well they only bought sweet tea, they forgot to buy unsweet tea. (Had we known this, we would not have ordered lunch which is why we asked before we ordered.) She doesn't give us any options. So I suggested water which I ended up getting for myself. And my husband got a soda. No modifications to the bill and no offer to modify. I wish the food had been better because this is a really cool place. But unless the bread I take home is amazing, we won't be going back. read more

We were so excited to see that great harvest bread is here in Huntsville. We had one in Cookeville Tennessee and in South Tampa when we lived there many years ago. The store was super cute , clean and the bakery smelled just like I remembered! Unfortunately customer service was subpar. We felt like we were bothering them when asking questions. The store was empty so it wasn't like they were busy. It's unfortunate because we would've stayed and tried breakfast there. Hopefully The loaf I purchased taste as delicious as I remembered. First I confess I didn't try any food or drink here so my review might be edited in a positive way if I decide to try again. I walked in to see if this is a place I would want to enjoy a cold or hot beverage and perhaps a food item. It struck me as an extremely small space not really conducive to relaxing with food or drink. More like a grab and go place. I saw a few packaged soups on the wall shelving that I can easily buy at other locations. Then to make matters less hopeful I look at the girl behind the counter who was not busy in the least but looking down, never raising her head to smile or say hello or can I help you. I also noticed the counter in front of her didn't seem to have many breads or items available in the display case. It appeared practically empty! Maybe it's the time of day I dropped in? (Early afternoon). No less, by now I decided this just isn't a place for me and drove down the street to a friendly welcoming place for a latte. read more
