I'm picky about restaurant food, and while buffets can offer a range of bad food, I would have to say that the Great Moon has a fantastic salad bar that actually contains green salad ingredients, not a host of mayo/macaroni salads. Love their green beans that are cooked with the right amount of crunch and are never soggy. When I'm in the mood for oriental food with variety, we head over to the Great Moon. Food is awful and always cold. There is no flavor to half of the things they put out for people to eat. I went there and had the worst service, the waiter was so rude and when I asked for more lemonade he rolled his eyes at me and dumped more into my cup and when it spilled over the side he just walked away without even apologizing. I dropped my wallet in the bathroom and when a waiter said he "found it", there was no money inside and no one else in the restroom that could've taken it. Just an awful experience all together. Great selection of food with reasonable prices. The only downside is the customer service because they are Chinese and maybe some don't speak English that well? This place is definitively a great all you can eat buffet. It has a huge selection and is always full of clientele so the food under the lights is freshly restocked. They have a sushi bar that is pretty good (for buffet sushi). There exists better Chinese food for sure, but in terms of all you can eat, it is definitely one of the best in the twin cities. read more

I would rate this 4 because the food here is good but there's not much variety. A lot of people but not enough variety. I was actually expecting more but it's OK. Food is still good, very fresh. I ate here on a Friday night....big mistake! It was $30 for two people due to the "seafood buffet" which was supposed to include crab legs, fish, mussels, and shrimp. The crab legs (4 per person!) were ridiculously skimpy. The fish was gone on my first and second pass, on the third try I finally got a piece of baked cod. Well, it's cheap fish to start with and it was undercooked! Yuck! Shrimp was tiny with lots of breading. The mussels were pretty good. Food: I always love the food here. I go here when I'm super hungry and craving for Chinese. They also have a sushi bar, so my fiance was happy about that. Staff: The front desk employees don't seem that friendly and always look busy/stress. The waiters and waitress are awesome tho. They are friendly and make you laugh. They enjoy kids and hand them candy/lollipop at times. Price: I think it's a reasonable price for the amount of food that is serve. Between $10-$12, depending on the time of the day. Ok food, but terrible business ethics. Let me make it clear, there are several great moon buffet, this particular one is located at 1200 Robert St S Saint Paul, MN 55118. You may find this is hard to believe but this actually happened. I went there with a friend and his wife. We came here because last week we were satisfied with the food. However this time at the cashier when we were about to pay, suddenly an old man showed up which I assumed is the business owner, he said the food cost is too high, if we come here mainly to eat seafood then he will lose money, and crawfish costs 17 dollars per pound he said. If we eat lots of seafood then he will not be able to maintain the business. We didn't say anything and went away, because I didn't want to this matter keep ruining my mood and arguing is a waste of my time. However I feel like I am morally obligated to let everybody know how Great Moon is doing their business and how rude they are treating customers. It is a buffet but they give customer attitude if you eat too much. I call for peoples attention to avoid this restaurant due to their lack of ethnics and wrong doings. The food is drenched in GMO's and sodium. That is the only reason it taste good. We went there last night. My daughter wound up in the ER room for food poisoning. The food won't blow you away in quality but it's not bad. Sure there is better food but not at a buffet. This place is always packed and for 13 dollars (less if you have coupons and they are always sending them out), you will get an unbelievable selection of freshly made average food. There are people who's job is to yell into the kitchen what is running low and with the huge crowds, nothing last too long. The dumplings are steamed in a giant batch so they are not very crispy but yet they're tasty. The cover all the classics (sweet and sour pork, general tso chicken, wings, lo mein, fried rice, crappy salad bar/dessert stuff) but they also have a decent grocery store quality sushi and tons of other stuff you don't usually see. There were soo many tables of food to choose from. They had a huge salad bar (with ALOT of topping options) and a Fresh Fruit bar with many options. They even had KimChi. There was a few American food options. There were like 3 Bars worth of chinese food options; vegetable and a bunch of meat types (including seafood). There was a multi option desert bar. The food all tasted good. I went here with 3 other people all of us have different pallets from each other. And All of us were satisfied. The wait staff was good. They make sure you always have a drink or whatever else you need. Over all the resturant was very clean. Considering the amount of ppl that are served they do a very good job of keeping the place clean. Speaking of which when I was there it was a packed house. I got there around 6:30. We were seated fast, we waited for about 5 min in a line behind about 3 other groups. They have a very huge seating area. The dinner buffet is 11$ per person. Perhaps they're catering to a bland Midwestern palate, but I literally could not find one item that had any flavor. Everything was ordinary. On this particular Sunday we spotted The Great Moon Buffet and decided to stop in. That day we both agreed that it was the best Chinese-style buffet we had ever been to and we have returned at least a dozen times in the years since. Today I am taking a friend and his girlfriend because they mentioned they were in the mood for Chinese food...boy are they in for a treat! Good Chinese buffet with sushi. Lots of different variety. To me, the hot and sour soup was average, but the wonton soup was pretty good. The calimari on the cold bar was good -- not tough. The sushi was pretty reasonable. I liked the beef and broccoli and the boneless ribs. read more

I returned to Great Moon for lunch on Martin Luther King Jr. day. They charged "holiday prices" (dinner prices) and yet there was no difference from their regular lunch menu. Great selection- especially loved the sushi bar! My partner begrudgingly came with me (he doesn't enjoy Chinese food) however he left happy and full as there are a lot of options. Price was about 15$ per adult for dinner (drinks included) so it slightly higher than others, but I think it was worth it. I will be coming back again for sure. read more
