Horrible experience at Great nails! Don't go! I went on Friday to get a powder manicure. I asked for a French manicure and the technician asked if I wanted pinkish and I said no, a more neutral, whitish color. I then showed her a picture of a French manicure. She dipped the tips first for the French manicure, and then I assumed she would do a clear over that. She continued by putting white over the entire nail, which covered the white French tip. I told her that I didn't want White, I wanted a French manicure and she said she knew and finished one hand before I realized she was just doing a white powder. I explained again that I didn't want White and she got very angry and I told her just to stop bc I wasn't happy with the white, and at this point, the nails were extremely thick, which is not at all what I wanted so I told her again just to stop. The technician called over the owner and I explained again that I didn't want White nail polish and asked her just to remove the hand she had done. She finally agreed to take them off. I was then charged $50 and was leaving with nothing on my nails and had wasted an hour and a half for absolutely nothing. In addition, treated extremely rudely. WORST NAIL SALON EXPERIENCE EVER! I came in excited to get my nails done for graduation. I usually get UV Gel nails with no problems but the lady made it a problem since I got there. The first thing she noticed was that I had small nails. So I told her I wanted to get some tips. But she struggle in the process. For example, when she first put on one of the nails, she realized she did it wrong and just tried to rip it off. It hurt so much! Then she told me I had to get them shot because my nails were short. But as you can see in the pictures, she did not shape them properly. They are thick and don't even look like nails! I tried to tell her to fix it and she blamed it on my "crooked fingers and small nails" and wasn't willing to change them. At the end she tried to make it better by telling me that my nails would be better shaped next time I came in and my natural nails grew in. BUT I know that's not how it works. I went to another salon to get them fixed and they achieved the result I wanted. Look at the last picture. Lastly, I noticed that they are not clean! The price isn't worth the pedicure I got. For $26.50 I'd have expected more. Granted I haven't been going to nail salons much lately because i find that every single one is a rushed job just to get the next person in the chair. This place is not an exception. I guess that's what I get for a Saturday afternoon- but if we are paying the same price for a service regardless of the time or day then it should be the same quality. I like that they use a liner in the pedicure tubs. The person who did my pedicure did a good job considering I picked a dark color and I know that's difficult to do perfectly. I didn't like that the (I'm assuming) owner was yelling across the considerably sized store at employees orchestrating who was next and for which service. I didn't like that when I was getting the money from my purse to pay the woman was standing over me looking into my bag and wallet. That's exceptionally rude. I also didn't like that I waited more than 15 mins in the pedicure chair with my feet in the water for someone to start my service. After already waiting more than 10 mins on the sofa. I don't mind waiting, but don't trap me in the chair with wet feet to discourage me from leaving. Three stars for the actual polish job. The callus scrubbing could have been better and there could have been some type of leg massage for $26.50. read more

They take walk-ins and appointments. I came in for a gel manicure with a semi-complicated design, and they DID NOT disappoint. My end results came out better than what I originally requested. Most of the manicurists are very nice but since I get gel manicures and I liked the way one particular girl did them, I would always book her. The owner always seemed to be annoyed each time I did this. So, the last time I made an appt. I did not ask for anyone in particular. when I got there (on time) owner starts questioning me as to why I was there and that my usual girl was not available. I explained that I did NOT ask for any one in particular and that I was fine with whomever she wanted to give me...Mind you, this loud discussion was in front of all customers. I was then told to COME BACK in 1/2 hour. I DID NOT......and WILL NOT return to this salon. As a senior, I was embarrassed and humiliated. The service here is very hit-or-miss depending on who is doing your nails. It is a bit more expensive than other nail salons in the area but usually worth it. The areas are kept clean and they have a big variety in colors. I have gotten a gel manicure a few times, although once it did chip the next day but I had to take a flight and couldn't go in to have it fixed first and just didn't bother once I was back from my trip. One weird thing is if you buy a gift certificate they charge you tax on it at the time of purchase and when you redeem it supposedly they don't charge tax then. I had never heard of that before but okay. So if you are giving someone a gift certificate you should tell them to make sure they are not charged tax when they redeem it. read more

Recently within the last few months the service and attitude of the owner/manager has been the least to be desire and has made me feel unwelcome...The location is great, but the interior needs a complete make over. I've been going to this nail salon for over a year now dedicatedly. When I first started going it was amazing service and my nails came out great every time. I got powder nails done for the first time there and they came out extremely thick. I asked for oval nails and some are square and some are a mix of both. I'm usually very relaxed with the results of my nails and not picky but the last couple times I've been I've been unhappy with the results. The last couple times I've been I've had to wait extremely long and they would let other clients who came in after me go before. I have been going to Great nails for many years. Overall it is a great nail salon. The quality of work is very good. It is clean and they have good nail dryers. The massage while you dry is great (my favorite part). It is complimentary (but you should tip) and so relaxing while you dry. The manager Helen is very nice and works very hard. After having been a long time customer (10+ years) I chose to leave. While the nail technician who took excellent care of my nails was lovely, the negative outweighed the positive and I'm gone. The negatives? A non-relaxing atmosphere with the manager screaming at top decibel level. A less-than attractive interior and a somewhat clean but not super clean service area. The technicians are not equal in their ability. Many do not listen. Most do not understand English well, including the manager, making it difficult, if not impossible, to communicate one's needs. The continual conversations between the technicians, the manager and the technicians (all at top decibel level) are rude and distracting. While I have always included manicures and pedicures in my budget I want an environment that not only provides good service--which I certainly had from my particular technician--I would like a pleasant, peaceful, professional environment in which to spend my time and my money. read more

This place is terrible. My manicurist was barely even looking when she did my nails, and they looked worse than when I left - she didn't remove all the polish, there was still DIRT under my nails (she didn't bother removing it all, though it was visible), and the filing was totally uneven. My nails were all even when I went in, but ended up different lengths from Jenny the manicurist filing while looking elsewhere. I had to ask her to re-do several of the nails because they were so uneven. My thumbnail is square on one side, and a round on the other, but I wouldn't ask for her to redo it, since this nail was already filed down to way more of a nub than the other thumbnail. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Plus, they will not take cards for less than $20, though is not advertised anywhere. I was abruptly asked for cash before the polish went on. The door was propped open on a cold day, and the dryer (cool air only) is right in front of it. This was a totally unpleasant experience. When I showed the owner/receptionist the dirt under a few nails and asked for a tool to remove it, she led me over to a seat and used a little wooden dowel to remove what remained, which hurt. I did the callus treatment and it burned my ankle. When I said something, she asked if I had sensitive skin and I said no. She stated it would be fine the next day. It went from bad to worse and 8 days later it is still there and now is also bruised. The skin next to my finger nail was cut and blood was drawn on top of it! I still have a lesion there as well. I HAD been coming here for the last 6 years. Mostly out of convenience and the fact that they give a great massage when you dry your nails...however...I can't justify going there anymore. The management doesn't care about the client, plain and simple. It is too expensive to be treated like they are doing you a favor, and frankly not worth it at all. Many times I've had to had my manicure/pedicure fixed all while being ridiculed by the management for having an issue with it. Terrible customer service. I have tried calling to make a reservation for certain times and EACH TIME have waited over 40 minutes upon arrival and usually ended up with whoever was available NOT the person I made the appointment with. All with zero apology. Aside from all of this the decor is horrible and the cleanliness is sub par to all of the other salons in the area that use disposable nail files and properly sanitized tools. I made my last trip there the last time I will ever go there, walking out after waiting another 30 minutes for a SCHEDULED appointment and having the nail woman who was asked to take the other nail woman's place cause a scene by huffng and puffing about it. I come here often and for some reason today I didn't like my manicure or pedicure. It's overly expensive and expected more.THEN to top it off... I'm one of those people who rarely carry cash so I paid for my services with a card and and add a tip on the receipt usually because there is option. They don't do that .. so as I'm about to get up the owner says "no tip" I explained I had no cash and she insisted on swipping my card again for an EXTRA $5 .. I thought that was bullshit! My favorite nail place. I recently moved 20 minutes away from Stamford and have not found any nail place like it so I make the drive just to have the experience I want. They are all so friendly. The owner is really funny. Obviously they do get busy and may rush, but if you ask them to fix something, they will. The massage after the manicure is amazing. I was very disappointed in this place. Very limited free parking, and the meters charge 25 cents every 15 minutes, which is very inconvient. They were overpriced for the area, without having better manicures or pedicures than other salons. The lady who offered a massage while you dry your nails demanded a tip (separate from the generous tip I had already given for the manicure and pedicure) before what is a complimentary massage at every other nail salon I've been to.
