Zen spa is one of the better spas in the area. The place is clean, the pedicures are done by staff that actually know what they are doing. They have a variety of pedicures available and most of them includes a 15min massage. My Gel manicure usually last beyond the 2weeks and the Spa uses good quality polish on your nails not the polish you get from dollar tree. The staff is extremely nice and you can only tip in Cash. You definitely need an appointment because its a popular spot for people that want excellent service. read more

This was my first time getting my nails done at Zen. I've only gotten my nails done once in CT so I relied heavily on other Yelp reviews. They were able to take my appointment half an hour early which was nice. I highly recommend getting an appointment here. Walk ins are welcome but you're probably not going to get in. They are very busy! I did the Pedicure spa package which includes the pedicure, soak, 15 foot massage, callus treatment, and a free manicure for $55 total. You can also use the massage chair during your pedicure. The lady who did my nails was great and overall, I was pretty relaxed. It was a tad bit loud in the front but overall, the noise level wasn't too bad. Reason for 4 stars: Sanitation wise, I saw the employees clean the tools/the pedicure foot area but the seats were not being sanitized in between people. Also, this place needs an update. When getting my manicure, I noticed the hand dryer underneath was broken. The wrist pads were torn up and the stock for purchasing items behind the manicure area was extremely low. These minute details are noticeable when there are a lot of tiny issues like that. However, that's all pretty shallow (besides the sanitation). I traveled to Stamford from Los Angeles to have surgery with a specialist out here. I wanted to get my nails done before going into the hospital. I searched for nail salons near me and I found Zen spa & nails, and can I just say how happy I am that I did! The salon is cute, quiet, and they play peaceful music the entire time. The employees are all so friendly & kind too! My nails had been previously damaged by me choosing to do a gel manicure, picking a color I didn't like, and then doing a color change 3 days later (whoopsie) SO 1 week later I needed help because two nails were breaking far down. I explained that to Vicky, and she took her time, and gently filed off the gel, and soaked my nails, paying close attention to each one. Vicky made my almond shape nails just a little bit more pointy like I wanted, and I chose to try a thin French tip. My nails had some yellow from the previous glue or whatever that bonding layer is called, used at the salon back in LA. So Vicky picked THE MOST PERFECT base coat color to hide the yellow but still give that pretty natural French tip base. I have gotten compliment after compliment on them! Even the nurses here in the hospital are asking for the salon information! I also did a paraffin dip, and then they wrapped my hands in plastic, and placed each hand in this warming device. I was in cozy warm heaven! THEN it got even better!!! They offered me a 5 or 10 minute back massage! Yes please! Maria gave me the most relaxing back massage I've ever had! She massaged my neck, back, and temples. Perfect amount of pressure too. After our long flight from LAX to JFK, it was exactly what I needed. It's safe to say I was very Zen! Just moved here and my first experience to Zen was a positive one. The extra add on massage was so relaxing! BUT my second experience to Zen was very painful (literally...I left with multiple cuts on my skin from her filing my nails too hard) and will cause me to never return. Went to "Zen" to get a simple gel manicure and it turned into the worst experience of my life. The person in charge starts screaming at me saying that it's just the nail polish and that I put my hands in some sort of chemical that made it turn that color. I tell the lady that I have only washed my hands and used hand sanitizer which I do repeatedly and have never had an issue. Well then I was told that it's my fault and that it's an easy fix, she ends up just putting another coat on my nails to hide the brown color. The manicure and pedicure were ok. When it came time to pay I told the woman working that I didn't have cash and would like to add a tip on my card. They added my tip to the total and charged me tax on my tip. I asked why I was being charged tax on my tip and was told rudely that it is CT law. It's not the law. I went there once before and loved my experience. The lady who did my nails was great, she paid attention to detail, and did not damage my natural nails. I was excited to go again, but my experience was not pleasant. I showed the nail tech a picture of what I wanted, and she seemed unsure of how to achieve that. She gave me color palettes and told me to choose what I thought would be closest to the inspiration. I was unhappy as the colors were not similar to what I wanted, I also wanted chrome so the color would change when it was added but she was not understanding that. Finally I told her to just do a French nail. The French nail was messy, uneven, and the base coat had dents in it. I did not say anything because I wanted to just get out of there. When I left and took a closer look, the filing of the nails was horrifying. They were uneven, and all different shapes. I removed the gel myself at home and my natural nails are ruined. She is requesting 20% tip and very disrespectfully out loud in front of everyone telling me that I have to pay 20%... even though I never payed less then probably 15%... this place is horrible, totally not recommended! Great service every time. They women that work here are polite and courteous. I always feel so relaxed when I'm here, it's my break from reality. The music and the atmosphere is very soothing. I recently bought my husband a gift certificate for his birthday for a pedicure and he said he felt very comfortable and welcomed in their establishment. He would come back again. I have been going to Zen Spa & Nails for about a year now. My experience has always been pleasant (nothing extraordinary, but pleasant) up until yesterday. I called ahead of time to ask if I could come in for a gel manicure and the woman who answered said yes, and asked how long? I said 10 minutes she said OK. I arrived on time. When I walked in, I informed her that I was the one who called, and she said OK. I sat down immediately, and a technician began to work on my nails. In the interim, I picked out a color. She proceeded to get the color, opens the bottle and told me that the color no longer existed. She then ripped the sample nail off of samples with all of the nails, not offering another color suggestion that matched what I originally chose so I proceeded to search for another color. A few moments later, the same woman who gave me the ok to come in, asked if I had an appointment and I said no. They spoke in their language which really annoys me because if you have something to say that has to do with me, say it so I can understand. The technician wrapped my nails in foil, put gloves on and walked away. After 10 minutes, I asked the owner who was sitting next to me doing someone else's nails, where did she go? She shrugged and said, I don't know. Maybe to the bathroom? I sat there trying to be patient while checking my watch every few seconds (and it was evident) that I was running out of patience. The owner finished working on her customer's nails and proceeded to work on mine (I am certain it was because the look on my face was less than pleased). After 14 minutes, the technician came back and again, they spoke so that only they could understand and the technician began to work on my nails without offering a simple, sorry for keeping you waiting. As I was getting my nails done, there was a woman on the left side of me and another employee standing by her (just killing time). She asked the woman if she wanted a massage, and she said no. Another woman came in shortly after and sat on the right side of me. After she was there for a few minutes, the same employee walked over to her to ask if she wanted a massage, and she said yes. I found it bizarre that she overlooked me and never asked. My entire experience yesterday made me feel like I was either wasting their time or unwanted. I will never go back there again, based on that experience. I still gave a tip because that is what a loyal customer does despite the shortcomings of the service rendered. There is something called curtesy, customer service and treating everyone the same and Zen Spa fell short of all three. read more

I've been going to Zen Spa for a while. I've gotten regular manicures, pedicures, gel manicures, and now powder polish. Overall, I've been pretty happy with the quality. Lately, the quality seems to have gone down hill. Most recently, I got a pedicure and a powder polish. The pedicure lasted just over a week before it cracked. I even got a polish that was supposed to last longer! I opted for powder polish because I know so many people who swear by it... It doesn't chip, lasts at least 3 weeks, yada, yada. The color selection for powder is minimal. The process took a lot longer than other places I've been to for powder, AND the polish completely came off 4 nails in a week. Several other nails were chipping by that point. I went to another local place to try powder again, and when they were fixing my nails, I was told that the reason it chipped so much was because whoever did it had the polish too close to the cuticle. I have no idea if that's accurate, but either way the powder did not live up to hype at this place. Disappointed. read more

I'm so upset and disappointed with this place. I do feel for the workers. However, you get a different service every time you go. Sometimes my nails will come out great and the service will be sweet (pictured here). Other times, it's horrible. I give the benefit of the doubt to the workers but my most recent time will be my last time. I got a horrible French tip manicure with a design and it came out so ugly, I'm embarrassed to even post a photo and took off my manicure the same day. The lady who did my nails seemed confused in how to even do a French tip and was rude. If you're looking for really simple, one colored manicure then this is a good place and find one worker that you like and always ask for them. If you want anything more than that, don't go here. And don't take the risk of getting a different person every time because you will get different nails and service AND even price for the same thing. read more
