Was able to setup the move easily via email and they were more than willing to working with me when some events happened and I had to shift my move by 2 full weeks. The loading/unload crew was amazing and it came in right at the quoted cost. When it comes time to move again I will not hesitate to contact Great Scott Moving. The company that inspired me to finally create a Yelp account! Great Scott Moving exceeded my expectations with the moving process in every way. I submitted the Online Estimate Form via Great Scott Moving's website and received a detailed e-mail back from Henry within two hours. Henry was very transparent with the pricing structure (hourly rate with two hour minimum + travel time charge, which includes travel to your current location and the truck's return back to their office in Hyattsville). I was quoted for 4-5 hours including a 1 hour travel time charge. As I was moving from a fourth floor one bedroom apartment to a first floor one bedroom apartment about 25 minutes away, I was apprehensive about the accuracy of the quote, but Henry's professionalism and prompt responses swayed me back in their favor and convinced me to schedule the movers. Best decision I could have made! On moving day, Alex, Javier, and Ozzie showed up promptly and began moving right away. They dealt with me and one another politely, professionally, and efficiently. I couldn't believe how quickly they wrapped the furniture and moved my boxes down three flights of stairs into the truck. The truck was full and ready to move within two hours! At the new apartment, they were sure to ask questions while unloading to ensure furniture was in the appropriate spots, and were happy to make adjustments as requested. This was my first experience with a moving company, and I would absolutely recommend this company for a calm and efficient moving process. When we decided to move to Capitol Hill, we chose to go the route with the least stress we could manage. Great Scott was a great choice! They show up on time at our apt with 2 guys who busted their butts and moved everything out in 30 minutes! Then once we get to our new house, they unload the moving truck in equally as fast time. Now we just have a POD for them to unload that's sitting on our front curb - no problem! We had Bobby and Scott move our stuff for us and they were both in shape, friendly, hustling guys that made the move very pleasant. Really fantastic service. The cost is more than for a company you'd find on Craigslist, but it's worth every penny. They even show up ON TIME and call ahead to tell you they're on the way. Had to do the move on one of the hottest days of the summer but they were incredibly fast and good-spirited (and really sweet and grateful for the water I insisted they drink). The lead mover is a packing genius. Watching him figure out how to arrange everything in the truck was like watching an artist work. Truly. I had a great move with Great Scott moving up to NYC last December. On my first call, Henry (one of the co-owners) immediately warned me about the costs and--get this--suggested alternate methods of moving. That's a mark of someone who cares about their business: they try to help you even if it costs them money. Unfortunately, I had to move immediately, so I ate the cost (they are not cheap for out of town moves, but then, no one is). Their movers were quick and courteous (though sadly, I've forgotten their names after six weeks), and put up with the convoluted process of getting me moved out, including a broken service elevator and an awful loading dock that resembles a game of Operation! In the midst of freezing drizzle, they managed to deliver my stuff three hours earlier than expected, and unloaded everything in about a half hour. From start to finish, they were smart, quick, and thorough about their move. *** if you are reading down, then I should note that I was the one moving out during Janeen D's horror movie experience. Her note fails to mention the broken service elevator, the five minute lecture on elevator etiquette, her egging her dog on after he bit the mover, her threatening to call the police because...they were bitten?, or her self-described racial motivations for having the dog. Yikes. So between the short timeline, the weather, the tough loading situation, a hostile neighbor, and the challenge that is moving through NYC with any vehicle, I'd say these guys did an awesome job. read more

I'd never hired movers before, so when I needed to, I looked to Yelp for recommendations and felt like I should return the favor. Great Scott Moving is awesome, and really nothing else needs to be said, but I will say it anyway. Hiring movers is frustrating because you can rarely talk to anyone directly or get an accurate quote (somewhere between $400 and $1000 is the average range it seems), but Great Scott made it easy. They quoted me $390-$520 and came in at $455. They called to confirm a few days before the move. They showed up 15 minutes early and didn't charge us for those 15 minutes. They were fast, professional and very personable. I have nothing but good things to say about these guys, so if you want to move in the DC area, use them - you will not be disappointed. read more

I used Great Scott for two moves, and both times the movers were awesome!! The first move was to move out of my studio apartment into a storage unit. They showed up exactly on time and then they had everything loaded into the truck in 90 min. The second move was the consolidation of two apartments and they had everything moved and assembled beds and TVs in 3 hours. Once again they showed up on time, maybe even a couple minutes early. They were super polite and professional and not at all phased by some parking issues (namely people being parked in front of our emergency no parking signs on busy, narrow streets). I just moved from Baltimore to DC, and have never used movers as awesome as Great Scott! I heard about them when I picked up some used moving boxes posted on CraigsList from someone who had just moved from DC. I asked her for a recommendation for a moving company, and she highly recommended them. She was right. I submitted a form online for an estimate, and then communicated with Henry by email and phone. They estimated my 1-bedroom apartment move (bed, dresser, bookcase, antique table, couch, coffee table, TV, and many many boxes) at 5-6 hours and an estimate of $650.00 - $780.00. They ended up taking 5.5 hours, and only slightly over budget at $845 total. It was worth it. Alex and Javier were the movers. They called me exactly on time, and they had already set up the truck and ramp, and were ready to go. They did a wonderful job carefully wrapping all of my furniture with blankets and plastic wrap - nothing even got scratched. I have several 19th century antique pieces of furniture, including a glass-front bookcase, and they treated them very well. My new apartment building had a freight elevator, but the couch wouldn't fit in it! They were able to lift it up 4 flights of stairs inside and maneuver it into a narrow doorway. Because of how well it was packed, it still looks brand new. They were polite, attentive, courteous, and truly cared about my things. I'd highly recommend them to anyone. read more

Moving can be so, SO stressful. But Great Scott Moving made a recent move a real breeze. My partner and I were vacating an office space that we had been renting in a 10-story office building near the Takoma Metro station. The move involved disassembling some furniture and moving it and other pieces to two locations, one an office space in the same building, the other a 5 to 10-minute trip away. Things couldn't have gone more smoothly. Scott, who is very cordial, returned my call promptly and was able to come up with an estimate over the phone. After speaking with several other movers, some of whose bids came in much higher, I opted to go with Great Scott. Soon after making the decision, I had another conversation, this time with Henry, who was also very professional and easy to work with. We arranged a suitable date for the move without a hitch. A day prior to the move, Henry checked in to confirm. On the day of the move, the movers, Brandon and Steve, arrived a few minutes early. They, too, were efficient and professional. The job took considerably less time than predicted, slightly over an hour. We were impressed not only with the speed, but also the care that Brandon and Steve showed each of the items. And our total bill? It was $280, significantly lower than the $375-$500 estimate. (One mover had said the charge would be based on a 5-hour minimum time frame and a 3-man crew, for a total of $750 plus materials. I'm glad I kept looking!) Both Great Scott and Book Store movers were recommended by friends who had used them in their moves. Great Scott ended up having the availability we needed and they were great. Two guys took care of our one bedroom move out and move in in two hours and 15 minutes. We used plastic boxes by Elf boxes which greatly sped up the process. Great Scott were able to handle large and delicate wood bookcases which arrived without a scratch. Was also happy that we ended up paying less than the estimate. We had a problem on the day of my move - they were two hours late. Due to a combination of personal circumstances, this caused a problem for me. If it were an ordinary move, this would not have mattered. Great Scott sent extra guys so that the move could finish on time although it did not start on time. It seems that they schedule many moves back to back. This is a reasonable business practice given that everyone usually wants to move on the same day. This week is probably the #1 week of the year for moving. But FYI this makes scheduling difficulty a real possibility. Though I was unhappy about the situation, we arrived at a result which was satisfactory to me, so I have changed my review to indicate full satisfaction. I will let my warning about packing supplies stand. I needed to get packing service from them at the last minute due to suddenly needing to be out of town the week before. Their guys did a fantastic job. However they charged 25 dollars per roll of newspaper-weight paper. They seemed to make sure to maximize this, wrapping things that were not actually breakable (box of dog biscuits...lol) Packing is a great service and I would like to consider doing this for my next move, these guys can pack faster and better than I can. But if I have to watch my back on the materials, maybe it isn't such a great idea to have packing done even if I budget the time and money for it? Seeing that charge put me on my guard and definitely affected my perception of these movers. I started out with the assumption that they were reputable (good reviews) and when i saw that charge I thought -- no, I have to put my guard up, these guys are out to get me. It definitely affected whether I believed the guy's explanation of the move situation and the resolution I sought on my issue. I wonder is it worth it for them? Anyway - I now have nothing to complain about and my rating reflects that. read more

We just relocated to a new state in June 2019 with a complicated move that included 4 different addresses. Right from the start, Tom mapped out a route that would accommodate all four stops, and packed the trucks accordingly. He estimated the amount of packing materials and delivered them to my home. He was always just a phone call away when I had questions. On moving day, the team was very efficient, very careful with our possessions and also took great care to avoid any damage to walls and doorways. The same team stayed with us throughout the move. They were so efficient that they finished ahead of schedule, saving us money on the hourly charge. Moving is stressful and Great Scott Movers made it much easier. Absolute professionals--we had a lot of difficult furniture to move down a 3rd floor walk-up, in DC summer heat, and these guys were very skilled, quick, respectful, and successfully got everything down those precarious stairs and into our new home without any damage. I was a bit hesitant of all of the high marks that this company received because they seemed too good to be true! But any reservations I had about Great Scott Moving were completely thrown out the window (no pun intended) when they not only showed up on time but were extremely professional! To add on top of this, the movers I had were very polite, handled all of my items with care, and they were very efficient in moving; they pretty much have this down to a science and you can tell they have done this for a while. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with how fast my move was completed, but during the Online Estimate on their website, I included a very detailed, itemized list in the "Comments" section. As an additional side note, I was moving furniture/boxes/items from a storage unit to a single bedroom apartment. The only thing is that they only take cash/check, no credit card, but I was expecting that because it's posted on their Yelp page and their website. I have moved 11 times and this was by FAR the best move I have experienced. We have a 5000+ sq. ft. home and requested a full service move - pack, move, unpack boxes, take all boxes. We could tell they were good during the interview. Very professional and gave a fair bid. It wasn't the cheapest but it was thorough and we liked them. They sent a team to pack for two days. These movers are great. They were wonderful to talk to on the phone, and when I had to postpone the move by a day on really, really short notice, they were able to do it no questions asked. They showed up on time and were really careful with all my stuff. They were also incredibly fast. They charge by the hour (in 15 minute increments) but did not dawdle to increase the fee. Their rates were really reasonable ($130/hr for a truck and two movers), and there were no extra fees. This is the most stress-free move I've ever had! read more

These guys moved us back on Nov. 5, 2010. The front office guys were good on getting us scheduled and they had tips on how to keep costs down. For example, certain very strong, large, and cheap plastic bags are fine for clothes rather pricy boxes. We hired them to do our large furniture because we lived in a 4th floor walk up and moved to a 4th floor walk up -- they were so efficient that we had extra time for them to help with some of the boxes! Also, it poured rain (like flash flood, inches of pouring rain, everyone was drenched including us) the day we moved and they were very careful to protect our furniture and made sure not to track too much dirt onto the rugs. I used Great Scott to move yesterday and there were absolutely fantastic. My moving situation changed and got complicated after I originally set things up with them, but they were totally flexible and didn't give me any grief about it (which I really appreciated). They also didn't charge me any extra fees for changing the destination of my move and waiting till literally the day before to decide if I was going to use them or cancel. Alex and Gus did the move and they were professional, careful, efficient, quick, clean, and overall just fantastic. I had a pretty bad experience with Great Scott Moving. In order to provide an unbiased review, I will break down my experience by the pro's and con's. Pro's - Arrived on time Con's - Charged for extra 1.5 hours, including time taken for a lunch break. Also charged almost twice the original estimate, even though the representation of move was accurate. - Broke multiple fragile items, including: (two alcohol bottles, three wine glasses, two plates, and a lamp) Boxes were very clearly labelled fragile with stickers, yet they handled them poorly by flipping them over and storing them upside down both in the truck and after delivery. I am still unpacking at this point and will update later. - Movers complained constantly about the unload at the new place, and made very little progress over 4 hours(granted they took an hour for lunch). During the last hour another team showed up with 3 more people and they unloaded more than 60% of my stuff very quickly as they had another job to do. - Movers also initially refused to use the loading dock as they wanted to use the commercial one. This delay costed another 30 minutes as I had to go get the building manager to come out and explain to the movers that the other dock was for commercial usage only. - Felt pressured into signing release form at the end of the move as I was surrounded by all 5 movers. After signing, they told me that if I had problems to call the company. - I have multiple marks on my walls to both rough handling of my furniture and boxes. I will have to spend time cleaning my apartment. - Due to improper handling of my furniture in the truck, I had multiple dirt and grease stains on my couch and mattresses. - And lastly, there are two lost boxes. While the contents of those boxes were not high value (shower curtains, sheets), it is still disturbing those items got lost in the move. I would highly avoid using this company in the future due to the reasons stated above. read more
