First Impressions - this spot moved from the original location where I had been going for a few years... this new spot is newer and cleaner, and better lit. The Service - the ladies, who work here have never messed up my eyebrows, but they do decent work... just make sure that you tell them exactly what you want and make it clear so they understand. Also if you are going as a walk-in during a time when they're opening (ie the beginning of the day)... call ahead to make sure that they're there. Several times I have gone and they open late or they are running late... like anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes after the sign says they're supposed to open. I usually don't mind, but it's been very cold lately (January) so you don't be waiting outside for them to open. In conclusion - I recommend this spot, I also like that they have a rewards card. The prices aren't bad, more than fair. So make sure you tip. read more

Due for an update! When I moved back to the neighborhood after 6 years, I was pretty surprised to find that Great Shape was still around. I was even more (pleasantly) surprised to find that the quality and prices haven't changed. It's still only $12 to get your eyebrows and upper lip threaded ($7 for brows, $5 for upper lip). I prefer to ask for Menuka, who is very gentle, quick, and precise. Make sure to ask for aloe or lotion afterward, because she does a lovely mini-massage on your brow. Definitely better than some of the chain spots like City Brows, and worth a subway ride! read more

I am one happy woman! My mind is blown how difficult it is to find a well reviewed/recommended threading place in the neighborhood. I have been traveling to other neighborhoods for years because of this. Due to COVID-19, it makes it so difficult for me to commute to get my brows done. Today, I took the plunge and I went into this salon. I want to be able to drop in during my walks and support a local business. I am so glad that I did! The woman that did my eyebrows was professional, very sweet. The rules and guidelines for the pandemic were followed. The experience was pain free (I usually have a lot of sensitivity - even with the most talented estheticians). This was definitely a plus for me. I really like my shape as it looks very natural. The esthetician took her time to shape my eyebrows and was very thorough. Before trimming, she gave me the opportunity to look at them and mentioned that she could always take off more but they would be "thinner". I really think this is a wonderful courtesy as its better to gradually remove the hair to be sure the customer is satisfied. I really respected this. Rest assured, masks were worn, and her hands were sanitized. Be sure to call ahead of time as it is good etiquette to not have a lot of people waiting inside at the same time to reduce exposure. This was the best service I got! I always have the issue of having things done that I don't ask for (ex eyebrows too thin.) However, she really took her time to help me, give me the treatments that I requested and that look best for my face. She is very kind and soft spoken and made the experience and vibe that much more enjoyable. I will definitely be back for more personal treatments. Three strikes and they're out. strike 1: I went in the winter with a long coat, when I left it was covered in hair clippings (they also cut hair at this place). Gross and unsanitary but not the end of the world. strike 2: I return to get my eyebrows threaded and leave with them looking great but one of my eyelids is bleeding. strike 3: I'm a sucker for convenience so I return once more. this time I'm bleeding on both eyelids in several places. not only that, they did a really sloppy job that I had to clean up when I got home. this isn't okay and their technique obviously sucks. they need to make sure these ladies know what they're doing or at the very least they should be wearing sterile gloves if they're going to be regularly drawing blood. Pretty small place. Good price. I got my eye brows and upper lip threaded. They missed a few on my lip. Eye brows looked okay, a little shorter than I wanted but I didn't really discuss with them what I wanted before hand so that is my fault. . But overall good experience. They do haircuts/color there, but I haven't had any of that done. I did get some bumps in those areas after I had it done, which hasn't happened with other locations. read more

But I stopped by this location one day and fell in absolute and complete LOVE. First off, the staff members are completely friendly and lovely. They do an amazing job. I specifically thread my eyebrows with one specific lady but I forgot her name. I know it starts with an M and she's young. And it's 7 dollars!! Can't beat that. I've been going to Great Shape salon since they are open. This is a new branch of their sister-salon on 100 & Broadway. I get my eyebrows done every 2 weeks and waxing & facial every 2 months. Being a hygiene freak I am extremely satisfied with this salon. Almost everything they use is disposable. The staff is always happy to accomodate my requests if I am not comfortable with a towel etc and they immediately change it to disposable napkins. The staff is very friendly and professional and the most importantly they LISTEN to you. I wanted to change my brow shapes from angled to round and Menuka explained how she would work it through in 2 or 3 visits. She is great with threading, facial and waxing. They offer a wide range of facials and would attend to you in a very nice and professional way. Shana, the hair dresser who moved from SuperCuts across the street is great too. She knows her stuff and very gentle with my hair. I visit her once in 2 month for deep-conditioning treatment and haircut. My husband who used to visit her at SuperCuts now accompanies me to the salon to get his haircut :) The salon is very conveniently located on 104 and Broadway, right outside the 1 train station. They are very reasonably priced and you will get a true value for your money. All this time I never had a single bad experience at this place. I would definitely recommend this to everyone living in UWS who havent found THE right threading place for themselves. P.S: They have membership and discount coupons. Ive worked in customer service and Ive had some pretty bad jobs so I always try and give people the benefit of the doubt because I know that the customer is not always right and things can happen that are out of your control. HOWEVER!!! I honestly am livid so I feel like this needs to be said. I went in for two very simple things: eyebrow waxing and a brazilian wax. Ive been there before because their eyebrow threading is actually really great but DO NOT LET THEM ANYWHERE NEAR YOU WITH HOT WAX. I have burns on my eyelids from hot wax. My actual skin has been fried off my face. I have two red strips that burn like heck on my face. Im supposed to be in a wedding party tomorrow and my face is burning. As for the brazilian wax? I can kiss the beach goodbye because Im red, burning and STILL in pain, 24 hours later. I actually cant keep track of how many hair follicles are STILL bleeding. It feels like I shaved with a rusty dull razor, not a bikini wax. There was no aloe or a cooling agent applied after either waxing and stray hairs weren't addressed until I asked for them to be taken out. (There were MANY stray hairs) i actually had to go home and shave my bikini area to make sure every last hair was off. It just seemed like a sloppy job. I also wasn't given the 20% a body wax, which they had advertised on their window (I noticed when I got home). For nearly $50, I wasn't expecting a perfect job but the last thing I expected was to be burned and bloody 24 hours later. I used to recommend this place to everyone because of their threading techniques but PLEASE LOVE YOURSELVES AND STAY AWAY FROM ANY OF THEIR WAXES!!!! read more

This salon specializes in eyebrow threading, facials, waxing, hair color, highlights, henna tattoos/bridal henna, makeup, and they sell skin care products. I go there every two weeks to get my eyebrows threaded. Menuka worked at another shop and I followed her to this one. She is very gentle and has a good eye for shaping my brows in a way that flatters my face. At only $7 a visit, why would I ever want to do my own tweezing again?! I can usually walk right in and someone can see me, but now that Menuka knows me I usually wait for her if I have to. She is quick and efficient and is done in less than ten minutes, so I can stop in on my way home from work or while I'm out and about running errands in the neighborhood. Because my girl is so gentle I decided to give eyelash extensions a second chance. I tried it once at Trevi Nails and just couldn't handle it: they had me lie down on a table and they taped my eyelids open a la Clockwork Orange and got really mad at me because I couldn't shut my tear ducts off! Menuka had a completely different technique: she kept me on the chair and coached me to focus my eye either up or down, fixed on a certain spot. I teared up at first (keep in mind I am super sensitive) but eventually I was able to relax and soon enough I was out the door and batting my new lashes away. This is a great neighborhood place and I look forward to utilizing their other services. They will give you a membership card and discount coupons too! read more

This place is okay, if you don't have the time to hit up your usual place. It was raining, freezing and I really needed my eyebrows done but didn't have time to run to my usual place in Harlem. I told the woman (don't know her name) to keep them exactly the same, just clean them up. She did clean them up, but took too much off the beginning of my right brow and now it's totally uneven, which means I'll look like a wildebeest for the next few weeks while the hairs grow back out. Went in to get my eyebrows done before the holiday and I specifically asked the lady to just clean my eyebrows. In the middle of the process I notice that she is taking off way too much so I repeat "don't take off too much it's just to clean them up" so she stops. Once she moved onto my next one she was super rough it felt like she was slapping the string onto my skin. I've been threading my eyebrows for years now, I know how it feels and this was way too painful. Once she puts the lotion she was practically pushing my eyeballs in at the corner, it didn't feel like a massage at all. I walked out of there with a blurry contact lens. Once I got home I noticed the initial eyebrow she worked on was a lot thinner than the other :) just great. read more

I have been coming to this threading salon for a year now. I have very thin eyebrows but Maya works miracles on them. She is always able to give me a nice shape even though there is not much to work with. I also have a lot of ingrown hairs on my cheeks and chin. Maya takes her time and removes each and every single hair. Not many threading salons take pride in what they do. They just take your money and do a half job but not this place. I pass by this place every single day (I live not even a block away) and always wonder about it, but I've never done threading before. I went in today on a whim and I can't believe it took me this long! I used to make appointments at Bliss in midtown (not convenient) and pay upwards of $30. It only cost me $7 and it was so quick. I have never written a Yelp review. But this place is just so so so good that I had to write one. I discovered this place a couple of weeks back while searching for a good eyebrow threading salon. This is an absolute gem for threading. Every tenth threading is free and they even give you a two minute massage after threading. My eyebrows were done so well. Because of my great experience the first time I went back yesterday to get a full body wax done. Roma did my waxing and she was absolutely lovely. She was very patient and thorough with the waxing. It was as painless as it could be. The place shuts at 7 and I came in at 6 but she did not rush at all. I had a wonderful experience and I would recommend this place to everyone. The staff is friendly and very good with the work and you really cannot beat the prices! read more
