My wife had the Bourbon chicken and I had the Hunan beef, since the Mongolian beef was only available in a larger size. Both of our meals were good and the service was great. I gave two stars only because the food was prepared. I have had better from less it​ tastes store bought and tossed together. I ordered Kung Poa Chicken and Egg Drop Soup. It took me back to when I was a small child, my dad used to buy chow mein in the can. The veggies meat and noodles were separate and sealed together for packaging. Long to short, this NY Style Restaurant (NOT by far) was one notch above the store bought meal. As for the soup, NEVER again. I won't even go into details, the thought alone is making me nauseous. Delicious food, the best Chinese restaurant around! I've been going there for many years. The chef makes excellent Mongolian Beef, a new favorite! Broccoli is done to perfection. Very sweet lady at the counter, she remembers what I like! Order is always ready in a short time. My new favorite Chinese take out! We found this place here on Yelp and we're glad we did. Delicious, fresh food that is truly NY style Chinese take out (as they advertise). My wife had the bone- in spareribs (very good) and tSeafood Delight that had huge shrimp and a decent sized lobster tail in it. I had Singapore Noodles which were among the best I've ever had. I also had Hot and Sour soup (the standard by which I measure a Chinese takeout restaurant) and it was so good, just like I had in Brooklyn. Staff is fast but friendly and care about getting your order right. Definitely recommend and will be back. read more

We have struggled to find really good Chinese food in central Florida. But Great Wall is fantastic. We had a simple order: Wonton soup, Kung Pao Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The soup was very flavorful and the wontons were huge and delicious. The Kung Pao was spicy, lots of chicken and not-overdone veggies. My wife enjoyed the S&S chicken. We'll be back. read more

This is my downtown Sanford's GO-TO take-out Chinese place. I love that they are so fast, the food is delicious and fresh. I have been coming here for years and they are so friendly! -I'm called the 'orange chicken lady' hahaha. It's my favorite dish. As far as ambiance...it's TAKE-OUT. I have had their ribs, soups, egg rolls, won tons, loMeins.. I think the only dish I have not liked is the Singapore Rice Noodle dish. It's quite salty and not spicy [heat-wise]. Surprisingly good. Unassuming tiny "New York Style" (?) Chinese restaurant in a strip mall set up for take out and phone-in orders, although there are three tables inside. Counter service only, like a fast food restaurant. The food was fresh, very tasty and generously sized. I had the sesame chicken and shrimp Lo mein as well as a couple of fried pork dumplings to start and they were fabulous. Great Wall was a great find on Christmas night, when every other eatery in town was closed. Eating at a Chinese restaurant on Christmas always reminds me of the movie "A Christmas Story". read more

I really had high hopes for this place, considering it's the closest Chinese take out to me AND it's the only take out I've come across in Sanford. When I moved here earlier this year it was right before the pandemic hit. So when I finally had the opportunity to try it out, they closed the restaurant. Then after most of the local businesses re-opened, Great Wall remained closed for months thereafter. I thought for sure, they were closed indefinitely until one day recently, I noticed some activity in front and realized they re-opened! I was extremely happy and told myself I would not let the opportunity to try it out pass me by. When that day came, as I stood out front looking at the menu, I noticed their website was GreatWall8.com and I took it as an omen because my 2 favorite Chinese take out spots back home in NYC were called "The Great Wall" and the other was "No. 8"! I waited to try this place a few times before writing my review in hopes that it would get better but it did not. I don't care to try more of the menu items because of how disappointed I was. I tried their egg rolls, beef Lo Mein, vegetable Lo Mein, chicken in garlic sauce, & pork fried rice. Everything (minus the Vegetable Lo Mein) was just not good. Where do I begin? All I wanted, was my sweet-and-sour chicken. I ordered through DoorDash, and was expecting a great Chinese meal. Unfortunately, when my food arrived, there was no sight of sweet-and-sour chicken. We then called the restaurant, expecting to receive some kind of decent customer service, and was met by an angry, rude worker who hung up on me. Shocked by this response, I promptly drove down to the location where another worker was still rude. I chose to have the food delivered. It was a Wednesday night so I didn't think it would be a busy time. I ordered 2 combo meals and got cream cheese Rangoon. They told me after I ordered and paid that it would be an hour. Even though I was pretty hungry I couldn't really cancel now. A Little bit over an hour, the food did come. I received more vegetable eggrolls and I expected so I was happy with that. I was provided with plenty of sauces. The portions were great it was plenty for two meals. I couldn't wait to dig in. The crab Rangoon was pretty good, nothing special. I like the lo mein and vegetable rice was good too. The one thing that I couldn't get over what's the meat. I had read other reviews about it being dry but since there were so little reviews I didn't put much thought into it. I ordered the bourbon chicken and my boyfriend ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken. After waiting an hour both our meats were completely over cooked. I couldn't eat more than two bites of my chicken. The Meat was basically what I paid for so I was very disappointed. If you're looking for more than an appetizer I would not recommend this place. read more

Came here recently after first trying it years ago. I thought it was o.k. in my recollection. NO-- Very disappointing. I ordered some things which included a Mu shu Chicken dish. It was the worst Mu Shu Chicken we had ever had. It was primarily cabbage coursely chopped with some chicken and here and there some elephant ear mushrooms. I called to explain the disappointment and how were unable to eat that dish as it was so unappetizing with chunky cabbage pieces overwhelming the entire dish. The owner I presume was very rude and dismissive: "That's our special way we make it!!" "Very Special!!" I said there was nothing special about this. I have eaten Mu Shu all over Orlando and New York City and this is not right. I said can I bring it back for something else? "No, can not!" I told her how oh so its o.k. to treat customers like this and its no wonder you have all kinds of poor reviews. She said "Yes, its ok! in a very smug voice" No problem, not worth the whole experience in a very unpleasant location too boot. read more

I have been a customer over a year and the last few times has been nothing but a hassle... i ordered diet pepsi, was delivered diet coke, when i called to say something, like tell me no pepsi, i was treated like my preference doesn't matter. So i had to pay to just throw it away. Then i tried again. Given a hassle about showing my ccd / id upon delivery, but i was leaving. So i went to resturant to pay in person and show them who i was, i was hassled still about delivering to my kids at home. Finally, they agreed. I ordered sweet and sour chicken. When i got home finally, my kid told me they didn't eat as all the chicken hard as rocks. They were correct it was solid. No one could have eaten. I called and was told, "we were busy and no one else has complained." Well, that's my last order there, ever. Just be careful about complaining to them, they are spiteful. This is the worst spot I've ever had Chinese food in. I lived in New York for decades and ate at the best of the best, so I know what New York Chinese food is, and this isn't it. We had always put in very, very big orders about a decade ago when it was halfway decent but a hit or miss depending on what day and time you ordered the food, and many times our food tasted like it was in the refrigerator for a few days and heated up because it wasn't a popular item and they didn't want to throw it out the first time. Everything has a weird flavor to it that I can't really put my finger on, but it's such an unfresh taste. Boneless spare ribs were so terrible and hard and chewy that you couldn't even tell they were meat. The peanut sauce on the egg foo yong was made with something that didn't even taste like peanuts. The fried rice was hard as a rock, as it appeared several days old, not day-old rice. And the egg foo yong was sitting in so much water that it had to be drained and they had to be squeezed in paper towels, making them mush. Orange chicken didn't even have any orange flavor, it tasted more like plain corn syrup. Perhaps if you're used to frozen Chinese food, you may think this is a spectacular improvement, but this is not fresh Chinese food. Don't even get me started about the employees, they are as rude as hell just like so many other reviewers have noted. You can barely understand them, and if you ask them to repeat something, they become very testy. One time I saved loyalty punchcards the restaurant had given out, and when I went to redeem them, they duly informed me that it had been under new management for the last three weeks and they will not be honoring the cards sny more. Mysteriously, all the faces in the restaurant looked the same, so perhaps grandpa died and left it to grandma, qualifying as "new ownership." I'm pretty sure loyalty cards are considered debt when you purchase a restaurant, so now they were cheating tons of customers who were loyal to the restaurant out of money they spent with loyalty punchcards because they thought they were there anyway to pick it up and they weren't going to leave their food at the counter! Can you imagine a restaurant doing this? Just calling in, without any conversation with them, they are rude to the hilt. Fortunately, we now go to China Wok of Lake Mary, which is on the corner of 17-92 & Lake Mary Boulevard, a stones throw from the Burger King. We ordered nearly $100 worth of stuff the other day and it was ready in 15 minutes, and the entire restaurant is CV19 set up with social distance lines on the floor (tables are closed, no delivery at this time though) and the entire front is covered with floor-to-ceiling heavy clear plastic with only a cut out window to receive the food & pay, and I was very pleased with that! The food was delicious, every bit of it! It's worth driving another couple of miles just to get decent food and great service, and if you're passing that corner anyway, there's no reason not to get it there instead of Great Wall that is just a couple miles north where you'll just be throwing your money down the toilet. read more

We moved to Sanford this year from Orlando. We are big fans of Chinese and Japanese food. This place was the only one that offered delivery, so we gave it a try. At first we loved it, and started to order it a few times a month. As time went on however, it seemed to go down hill to my dismay. You have to call it in and can not order online so whoever started answering the phone was rude and seemed to not know what they were doing. Then they sent me sweet and sour chicken on 3 separate occasions when I ordered sweet and sour shrimp. When I let the person on the phone know after the 3rd time. They were disinterested in doing or saying anything to resolve the problem. So unfortunately we do not order from them anymore as the food started to go down hill as well. It's a shame not to be able to get delivery anymore, but not worth spending $100s a month if they have no concern for their customers. Not a bad place to eat but owners or managers need to step up and get it back to the way it was before. read more

As a former New Yorker, this place was TERRIBLE! I went here several years ago, and it was mediocre to poor at best, but recently, the woman at the counter alerted me to the fact that the restaurant is under new management, which would account for the quality sinking further down to "irreparable." First, General Tso and Sesame Chicken are the SAME, with one just getting a few dried chiles thrown into the sauce and the other sprinkled with untoasted sesame seeds. The meat itself is like all breading, like corndogs the size of superballs that have been left out for a few hours and refrigerated for a few days. The low mein has NEVER been remarkable, as it was one of the worst things I recall ordering from Great Wall -- just a funky taste that doesn't belong in a lo mein dish. Shrimp eggrolls rolls are just spring rolls with 3 baby shrimp stuffed in them -- save your money. It's ALL WHITE inside, as if there is only 2 ingredients inside, like some kind of funky tasteless cabbage. The shrimp egg foo young keeps getting its sauce changed, always for the worst, and it has always arrived without being properly drained of the juice/water it has been cooked in, and RUINS the bottom two patties by sogging up all the onions and the flavor goes out of it while making the eggs soggy. I tried chicken and cashews (tastes like it's been in the fridge for a week), beef/broccoli (questionable meat), garlic chicken (where's the GARLIC?), mushu pork (PLEASE DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT THIS, AS IT'S LOADED WITH HARD FUNKY CABBAGGE), kungpo chicken (terrible taste), fried shrimp in a bag (very greasy, doesn't taste fresh), ribs (dry, fatty, like dog rawhide), bonesless ribs (hard, chewy pieces of whats comes across as beef jerky bits in dried up sauce), shrimp and lobster sauce (how can you mess up THIS classic? They did. It only "looks" okay, but tastes like some things are missing and others are taking its place), and something with the word "phoenix" in it that, being a specialty, I expected too much - bland as heck. People who think this is good New York Chinese Food have defintely not eaten in good Chinese joints there as I have all my life. I think some people are easily impressed by chinese food in general, that's all. Additionally, the other people are correct -- the staff is very rude. I had to correct my order, and the lady at the front was ticked off at me, and (out of spite) left out all the bags of noodles from my order, and I even paid for extra, after telling her how important they were for the half gallon of soup I ordered and how the soup was useless without it for us. I knew by her face she did something but couldn't figure out what it would be, and was surprised by the nerve of the act. I assume this was to make me drive back, but it was too far and we gave the soup away to a neighbor, vowing never to return (and haven't). Honestly, LOTS of people here have no CHOICE but to go to Great Wall because no other Chinese restaurant in their right mind would come to that area and there are hardly ANY others around (google map it and you'll see). Fortunately, I pass near the Walmart all the time and will save Chinese night for those times when I pass there and plan to try a place that is near the Burger King in the strip mall across the street right in the back of it (near CVS), as I read the food was good but the owner has on occasion been in a bad mood to complainers. The Itchigo Itchie (sp?) in the Walmart Plaza has tanked in reviews, so the one near CVS/Burger King on 17-92/LakeMary Blvd will be next on the list. Oh well, perhaps the Chinese restaurant owners haven't caught on yet that in the U.S.A., service and attitude is just as important as the food and can make or break the business. If that one doesn't pan out, I'll have to save chinese night for when I travel out even FURTHER from my general area, or just head to China Garden (the best I guess) somewhere near 436 and University/Colonial, in that general vicinity. Honestly? I would rather eat at Panda Express than Great Wall, so that in itself speaks volumes. read more
