This little mom & pop hardware shop is small but mighty. During these difficult times of the pandemic, I find myself coming here for various things from copying keys to buying electric plugs to extension cords. Each visit has been fantastic as all staff I have encountered are super friendly and helpful. They limit a handful of people in the store at one time, but the wait has never been more than 5 minutes as people come in and out quickly. Masks are required to enter the store. Prices are really fair and reasonable as I had bought similar items from Home Depot for about the same price. I got 2 keys copied for less than $4 and waited less than 5 minutes. I even had to do a return/exchange, in which I brought my original receipt. No questions asked except if I wanted to exchange or get the full refund. I opted to exchange an item that was less than what I paid for, got the balance in cash even though I had previously paid with a credit card. A real honest to god 'neighborhood' hardware store. Friendly & helpful customer services. Don't let the store's front entrance fool you, its bigger once you go inside. The staff has no trouble with helping you find something , they pretty much have whatever you might need. I mentioned how the Parkside has a more progressive problem with home ,property , auto theft & vandalism. This business cares for our neighborhood . I was given,without charge, signs that read "We watch-out for all our neighbors " in my opinion this is a class act! I love this hardware store. So much better than Home D-pot. The people here quickly understand what you need (even when you don't), locate it in the shop, and get you out quickly. I came here last Friday 10 minutes before closing. I hesitated at first because I know how sucky it can be when you're getting ready to shut down for the day and customers come in. They did not make me feel bad about it at all. In fact, it wasn't an issue. I had a question, the young man at the counter showed me some options for my needs and was friendly and helpful. This hardware store is bigger than it looks from the outside. Seriously! I have seen it for years as I live down the street and pass it every day in the L Taraval. I expected prices to be higher for a small business, but I was pleasantly surprised it was not the case for what I needed. I will come here now that I know what they've got! read more

Worst customer service Bad customer service experience. Here is a few responses from the gentleman (young taller guy)behind the counter... " I am not a electrician so I don't understand your question." " I need to clock out so I don't think I can help you." He did not try to help me from the beginning I walked in. He gave me an attitude like I was bothering him for asking him questions. It's ok if you are not an electrician working at a hardware store but the least you can do is to try to ask someone else at the store to help. Located across the street from the post office. It's amazing how much the little storefront stocks for a neighborhood hardware store. I came in to have duplicate keys made, and was greeted immediately by the guy behind the counter. They also make copies of those fancy car keys. And they've got a great selection of key chains. $1.59 per key but that's the price of convenience. read more

If you need your car key copied; GO HERE! There was this old man at the cashier coping the keys for my '08 Yaris, he didn't cut the key well, because it couldn't open the doors, and would only turn on the ignition. When a younger gentleman walked in, he got another key and started coping the original key to the new one. He did it relative fast. When he was done, I went outside and tested it, and it worked! Just like an original key. I just paid about $5.40. That's a steal! read more

I came here to get extra keys made for when I moved in with my boyfriend, and it was great. The guy who made our keys was super friendly, it only took a couple minutes, and they had a huge selection of decorative duplicate keys to choose from! It's a pretty small hardware store, but I only came in for mason jars. Of course, I walk right by them thinking I could navigate through a store I've never been in myself. The owner (I'm guessing?) is super nice and helpful. The mason jars were a great price at $1.69 each. I was considering buying from Amazon thinking it was cheaper, but they only sold it in a pack of 12. I'm really glad I came here since it was cheaper as individual jars and I'm supporting a community mom and pop. read more

I needed to fix a slow leak from a outdoor faucet, show the owner I believe, a picture and a short description of my issue, he knew actually the part and even walk me through how to fix it. I went in to exchange an unopened box of grout I bought yesterday. I just wanted to change color. I am their neighbor I spend hundreds of dollars a year at their store a year, the guy across the street from me works at the store. And I wasn't allowed to exchange the grout for the same product but a different color because I didn't have a receipt. Unbelievable! They lost this customer. You don't treat neighbors like this. What a great place! Whenever I'm faced with random hardware needs, I always head straight to Great Wall. What does this mean? That I have been there twice. Yep. BUT... both times I was treated sooo well and found everything I needed easily. First time... moving into my new apartment (a year and a half ago...). Needed... New paint for the bathroom, nails/screws, drain-o for the shower, and spackel. Came here with a know-it-all hardware guy but the owners were still super friendly and helped us find everything and mixed my tiny little paint can. Second time... My toilet is running... So I open the top to see why and water is shooting straight up in my face. I've been putting off fixing it and instead shutting my bathroom door at night, but then the whole 'wasting water, global warming' crap got to my conscience and I decided to be productive today. I take a good look at my toilet parts before leaving and just decide to get the whole thing cause it's easier that way. The guy is super helpful in picking out what I need and explained in full detail every step I need to take in fixing my toilet. No amount of do it yourself diagrams and googling could have helped me as much as he did. So I definitely recommend this place for anyone who knows what they're doing (cause they have everything) OR all of us who don't know what we're doing. Seeing as it's 2 blocks from my house, how can I complain? Small but compact, they fit a ton of stuff you would never even think about in a small space. Super friendly and nice staff, I think it is all family. They are helpful the minute you walk in the store. (the first time my fiance was there it took him by surprise how on top of it they were). Prices are a little pricier than you'd find at Home Depot, but then again, it's convenient and that is what you're going to get. You don't have to get on the freeway or wait in a long line or deal with parking challenges. Closed on Sundays, and I think there is a minimum of about $10 for ATM usage. You can find most of what you need here for basic small to medium household projects. So great to have it so close. read more

I called to see if they had silicone and when I drive down to purchase the guy wanted me to buy two tubes so I met his arbitrary $10 minimum to use a credit card. I'd love to support a local business but it's lame to force a customer to use cash or buy more than you need. I didn't have cash and the silicone was $6 so he essentially lost business over trying to stick fees on the customer. read more

This place is great! Every time I come here I just walk in, the friendly person behind the counter asks me what I need. I explain my situation, then , five minutes later I'm out the door with whatever I need to get the job done! This place is not home depot. They won't have everything, but, you can communicate with the employees because they speak english, unlike home depot, and they want to help you find what you're looking for. Not just to get rid of you. Also the past few times they've had a deal where they give you a light bulb if you spend $20. Are they more expensive, maybe. But how many times are you going to buy a hammer in your life. Who cares if it costs $3 more? They are in the sunset, usually there is more then enough parking, and even if there isn't, just double park, it will only take a minute. There is no excuse to go to a big box hardware store. read more

Been here a few more times and can't get over how great it is. I've read the prior reviews and M C. said that this is the only surviving hardware store in the Sunset. But if you Yelp other hardware stores in the Outer Sunset there are a bunch of Ace Hardware and True Value Hardware stores that you can go to if Great Wall doesn't have what you need. And Great Wall isn't overpriced, especially for someone like myself that grew up in East Bay and there are few local hardware stores to appreciate. Plus, whatever you spend on gas/ parking to get to a Home Depot or Lowes, will more than equal out any price discrepancy. Ran in here to have a key made. Both the female staff were friendly, engaging and prompt to help me. The key was made right away and worked perfectly in the lock without any issues.
