The Best Crullers in the Midwest! Plenty of fresh donuts and pastries. Along with the Best Ham & Rolls. Badger Ham ~ 1 lb Ham gets 6 Free Rolls with large selection of Roll types. My fave is the Onion Roll. Always plenty of staff on hand. You know it is good with a line out the door. Family Owned since 1937 a Milwaukee tradition and staple located on 51st & Lincoln Ave. If you've never been get to Grebe's now! Sign up for their great Loylaty program awards. Enjoy!

Very great stop here for a dozen donuts. The variety made it difficult to choose just 12! They have plenty of old fashioned, cruller, and frosted donuts and lots of sprinkle choices which always goes over well. I love that they even have seasonal specials. Grabbed a blueberry glazed old fashioned but someone else snagged it first! Guess now I have to go back to try it :) Service was fast, friendly and the whole process took no more than 5 minutes. Solid bakery experience and appreciate the setup and layout. Definitely recommend!

Grebe's is always such a good bakery! I got a surprise bag from GoodieBag and it was a whole jimmy cake!! The cake is so good!! A good buttercream frosting and the cake was so soft! We used the cake for celebrating one year in our new home and it was perfect! I love their donuts but first time trying one of their cakes and it did not disappoint. I saw one can custom order cakes too so definitely will keep in mind for future parties or celebrations!

Want a nice morning treat and a small grocery store? Then grebes is for you. Established in the early 1900's by Grebe herself, this establishment represents the wisconsinite culture perfectly. Their cheeses shine like no other, but the bakery is the main attraction. Their donuts taste delicious and fresh, I would like to highlight their "Crullers" which is pretty much an old fashioned donut turned into a long John. Their prices are reasonable, with 5 donuts for 10$. At the checkout, all children are offered a free cookie of their choice, showing that hometown kindness that we could all use a little more of. On your next trip to west allis I whole heartedly recommend a trip to Grebes bakery!

    Chocolate Cheesecake Bismark
    Travis B.

Chocolate Cheesecake Bismark: In 1937 Grebe's Bakery was born in Irene Grebe's home kitchen. In the 1950's Jim Sr. Gebe took over operations and began selling products to Milwaukee area supermarkets (which is how I conveniently picked up this doughnut). Although they are most known for their crullers, I like trying their rotating monthly bismark. A bismark is essentially a doughnut without a hole and filled with cream or fruit. Grebe's bismark of the month for April was the Chocolate Cheesecake. The doughnut is blanketed in powdered sugar and filled with a sweet chocolate cream cheese. Beginning with the good, the bismark's dough was fresh, pleasantly chewy, and had hints of buttery flavor. The surface was teeming in enough powdered sugar to make me look like Tony Montana after my first bite. Disappointingly, the filling negates all of that deliciousness like a worm hiding in an apple. Just like Grebe's Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake Bismark from last November, the filling is way too tangy. It's a big problem when the filling is tangier than an actual slice of cheesecake. You would think adding chocolate flavor to the cream cheese filling would have ameliorated the tanginess, but it was so overpowering I couldn't taste any chocolate. Grebes didn't skimp on the filling, but in this case that's not a good thing. I'm going to be blunt here, Grebe's cheesecake filling is a bit gross, and I challenge them to do better. You're representing MKE's doughnut scene, and I would be embarrassed to give this to a foodie tourist. I implore you to do some doughnut reconnaissance and check out the cheesecake filled doughnuts from your national competitor Pinkbox as their filling is phenomenal. I hope Grebe's continues to offer unique bismarks as Milwaukee is sorely missing a unique doughnut scene, but they clearly still need to experiment more with their cheesecake recipe. Avoid this one . *1.5-2 stars for this doughnut, but I've had some tasty doughnuts from Grebe's before, so 3 overall Doughboy_Food_Reviews My top doughnut shops: 1. Donut Bar (San Diego) 2. Everglazed (Disney Springs) 3. Pinkbox (Las Vegas)

I almost always make it a habit to stop by a local, mom-and-pop type of bakery when we are on a road trip. This one has been family-owned since 1937. I stopped by around 2 PM on a Sunday and picked up a baker's dozen for $16.99 - Vanilla glazed yeast, chocolate glazed with custard, chocolate glazed with buttercream, blueberry glazed old fashion, old fashion, chocolate yeast donut with sprinkles, and sugar coated raspberry Bismarck. My favorite is the chocolate glazed with custard and I liked most of what I ordered except for two. I am generally a sucker for Bismarcks but I did not care for this raspberry one. The raspberry flavor was very subtle and the filling's texture was thin. The blueberry glazed old fashion was particularly greasy and the blueberry flavor was really lacking.

    Deli counter - hot ham

I'm not a big donut person but I get a craving every once in a while... when the craving hits, we hit up Grebe's! There is typically a line, especially on the weekends, but it moves fast. I have yet to try the ham but I will definitely get around to it. It's small inside, set up like a deli where you order at the counter. They have coffee, cooler drinks, and to-go bags of treats for sale as well. There are plenty of donuts to pick from and they all look terrific! I really wish the blueberry glaze was a blueberry cake donut instead, but it's close! My husband and son love the strawberry with sprinkles.

This morning, I had my second visit to Grebe's This time I went inside with my husband and the people behind the case are just lovely. The line moved very very quickly. The store is super clean and organized, and today we purchased a more diverse selection of doughnuts. We tried the chocolate caramel cheesecake Bismarck, and it is amazing. I don't think they make a doughnut that I can't love. Thank you, for a second lovely visit, Grebe's! The hot ham and rolls is still on my radar

A sweet staple in the Milwaukee community for almost 100 years. Need bakery, food, cookies, donuts? They are known for their hot ham & roll deals. What goes together better than ham, rolls, treats & football during football season. The entrance is very inviting the smell of fresh bakery in the air. Inside the store is organized, clean & the staff was very quick & helpful. Our favorites were seasonal pumpkin spice and apple donuts. We will be back. Enjoy

I cannot find anything not to like about this place! It has been around since I can remember, and I am talking 70s. Everything is presented so well and everything is so fresh delicious! The variety is outstanding and there is always plenty of staff to accommodate the needs. I love the point system also.

This bakery has been a local staple since 1937! My mom and I stopped by and were in donut heaven!! Not only does this bakery sell tasty pastries, donuts, etc. but they also have a deli, cheeses, salads, etc. They have so much to offer and more! We obviously went for the donuts. My mom and I got a dozen and split them. Mine were filled and she got a few filled and raised donuts. The donuts are super fresh, moist and melt in your mouth. They were absolutely fantastic! We definitely enjoyed our donuts and would reccomend while in Milwaukee!

Good Cruller Nuggets and Cheese pockets. Will be back!!

Really delicious Cruller Nuggets and Cheese pockets and looking forward to trying the Streusel Danish I purchased too!!! Will definitely be back!

    - delicious food, good service, cozy ambiance - no…read morereservation can be made for brunch - excited to come back for a sweet option Happy to get a seat at this tasty diner! With their rotating menu items and weekly specials, I am definitely coming back after having such a flavorful and fun meal. Waited about an hour on a busy Saturday since one of their locations was closed, but the food was well worth it! I had gotten Wolfie's Patty Melt and it was filling and a great start to our morning. The bread was nice and crisp from the buttered griddle and held everything together perfectly. Inside the crunchy sandwich were 2 seasoned patties and enough gooey cheese to make it rich, but not heavy. To contrast the fatty flavor, there was a slightly tart bacon jam and onions that were truly caramelized. Overall really tasty sandwich with no notes! In the description it says there is a sauce, but I could only taste the onions and jam, so I'm not too sure what it added. The side of fries was ok, but I think some crispy thinner ones would have been better with the sandwich. For my drink, I got a hot Ube Chai. The chai was strong and had a spicy kick to each sip. Already a subtle flavor, the ube was not very strong with the chai mixed in, but still added fun color. The design on top was also very cute and added another dink of sweetness. My girlfriend got the Spamelette for her main and it was pretty pretty and delish. Not too often that you see Spam, but when you see it, trust it earned its spot on a menu! The big chunks of Spam and accouterments gave each bite a pleasant feel and one full of flavor. I was skeptic of the mushrooms at first, but they were seasoned well and added another kind of texture to the meal. I think my favorite toppings were the drizzle of kewpie and the green onions... not sure if it counts as a topping, but the tamari glaze of the spam made it delish. Taste aside, it was also a pretty meal! Pook got a Hot Chocolate for her drink. Nice simple drink for the cold weather. We would have liked to see some more chocolatey flavor, but still a good milky drink for the meal. This drink also had a fun design and nice cream top, yum yum yum. This was such a tasty meal and they have lots of other options that I was debating on getting - I guess we gotta come back! It was a really cold day, but the cozy atmosphere and hot drinks with our food made it a great experience. We had originally planned on going to the Downtown location, but it was closed because of heating problems. I wish there was a bit more uniformity between their menus, especially since the Brewers Hill menu has different items and is smaller, so it feels like there is quite the difference between locations. Going off of that point, I am excited to try their dinner menu when it releases and see how it compares to when we ate Downtown! I am not sure how the places differ, but I felt the food here to be more flavorful than the other location. In addition to the dining area, they had a small shop and coffee area in the back while you waited for your table. It was fun and made time pass faster, but I feel as though that area is also perfect for dining. Maybe there are specific reasons why it isn't, but just a thought. Hope to come back soon!

Perfectly cooked medium rare steak with chimichurri, crispy-runny eggs, and excellent potatoes holding it all together. The food is thoughtfully plated without trying too hard, and the prices feel fair for the quality. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been. Another lil Milwaukee gem!

The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was really good and the biscuits were soo good!! The fried green tomatoes were just so-so, but I don't have much to compare it to. Our margaritas were very tasty. Brunch It Up (possibly in the middle of rebranding to just "Brunch.") is a classic breakfast spot in downtown Milwaukee...we were there on a Sunday morning...high brunch time, and were seated quickly upstairs. The place had an overall run-down vibe to it...scuffed paint on the walls and a general feeling of not quite matching the quality of the upscale brunch spot implied by their modern logo. Menus...I normally don't comment on the menu itself but our table featured no less than 4 different menus...the regular menu, a drink menu, a specials menu and a mimosas menu...choices are wonderful, but the immediate reaction is this is a whole mess of menus on the table, and I don't know what to look at first. It felt haphazard. Let's move on to the coffee...Coffee is an essential part of the brunch experience. Even at a diner, you want it to be strong...the mug it came in was nice, but it was weak coffee. I need coffee to kick my butt, and if you're serving what's close to "browned water" at a breakfast place, you're missing the mark. How about the food? I can't fault them for the generosity of the portions, but will say individual dishes were way too much for my wife and I...we wish smaller portions were available, so so much didn't go to waste. My wife had the Egg and Waffle sandwich with waffle fries. It was fine. I had the Harvest Hash made with egg whites...the eggs were a little overcooked. (Egg whites require a thoughtful touch when cooking them so they are finished white and not browning all over.) There are plenty of fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, and peppers in there (I guess that's the extent of the harvest in Milwaukee) The hashbrowns it all sat on were undercooked. We were excited about the croissant beignets...Available were the regular ones with chocolate or strawberry dipping sauce, and a special with a fruit dipping sauce. They couldn't mix and match sauces, so we got the special. They were okay but a bit over-fried, losing the croissant texture altogether ...I mean, there's nothing wrong with deep-fried dough with sweet things to dip them in, but we do wish they hadn't fried the croissant out of them to give us the unique experience implied by the name. The menu has plenty to choose from...every breakfast savory or sweet thing you could imagine...and on the nicely designed, modern-looking menu at looks like it could be amazing...but everything we got, plus the experience of sitting in a place that felt a little rundown, left us overall disappointed.

Their website has a popup on the home page saying it comes with fried haddock, potato pancakes, applesauce, and rye bread, but the popup doesn't list the price and it isn't available through the online ordering function. I ended up calling in an order to go, substituting wheat bread for the rye, and also added a piece of lemon ginger coffee cake. The lemon ginger coffee cake tasted fine, but man was it dry. Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.

We quite literally came here straight from the airport. To make matters worse, we had not eaten anything substantial all day and had actually looked this restaurant up weeks before our trip while researching places to eat the infamous Wisconsin fish fry, so we were really looking forward to the experience. The experience started off poorly when our party was essentially scolded by the hostess for sitting at a table that apparently needed to be cleaned for the wait list. To make matters worse, the busser laughed and joked that we were "in trouble," to which I could only respond, "Sounds like it." Not exactly the welcoming atmosphere you'd hope for as a first time visitor. The fish fry was decent our tab came out to $150 for 5 people, but the service was absolutely subpar and our tip reflected that. We also had to send back two drink glasses because they were dirty one still had lipstick on it, and another had food stuck to the inside of the glass. Overall, this was a very disappointing dining experience. Between the unprofessional treatment, lackluster service, and cleanliness issues, I would not recommend stopping here.
