do not call this place we had their inspector james minsky out who as he walked up my stairs said oh i can smell the mold. when i showed him the attic hatch in my daughters bedroom he said you did not prep me to go up meaning i didnt not empty her closet. i kindly explained im happy to move it out of your way however previous companies have never had a problem not even our exterminators that come out twice a year nor did your scheduler explain this bad to be done. he said ill be fine in which i went downstairs to check on my children. i went back up 3 minutes later and he emptied my daughters closet on her bed and also floor removed her shelving and said sorry i may have broken it and i said what and he said no its fine however the post was hanging out of the wall as if it were ripped with its screw left there dangling. he proceed to open the hatch and said oh yes definitely mold you can smell it and see it. i climbed up the ladder myself as he pointed out areas and said it was mold but i could not see what he was seeing and i have great vision. he said the insulation is soaked and there is water and moisture must be because our bathroom light can are not installed right so the moisture from bathroom is getting in. funny he didnt check the canned lights. he spent another 5 minutes in there and came down and said he needs to call his roofer there is a storm coming in two days ( this was last week 4/10 the beautiful weather we had with no rain for several days) and they need to get this done before it get worse and called him. i kindly said please dont call anyone out before we receive a quote in writing and i discuss with my husband. he said this is bad and i need to act quick. then left with his mess he left in my daughters bedroom. i called the company immediately after they asked me to send pictures i posted below for you all as well. they had a manager call me and said he cared about us and said he will add a discount under the nicor name for our troubles. well we received a hefty quote for for 12,501 minus the nicor discount which is actually something everyone is eligible for. ive had 3 other companies come out for inspections and all three stated no mold there is brand new plywood up there and the roof is great but we could use some additional insulation and an attic fan but other than that no mold no water no damp soaked insulation as green attic stated quotes were reasonable and justified and definitely nowhere near 12k. also each of them where able to get in tk the hatch with the shelving unit in place after my husband had to repair himself. ive called to give them our thoughts and was told no manager was available to discuss the concerns i had in which i said ill be posted my experience for others. stay away go with attic air ....attic experts ....or american attic reinsulation. they are honest. not sure where all the 5 star reviews for green attic are coming from. im hoping these people werent scammed into thinking they had issues when none were present like my experience UPDATE After the posted review Received a call from Brody asking how they can fix this I stated they couldn't we do not wish to work with them. Received call from Patrick who was kind and wanted to me to allow them back in the home for another inspection. I stated I appreciate his call but we do not wish to give anymore time to them and they can address any employee issues on their end. Explained we have had others come out and feel strongly that 3 unbiased companies whom did not know what the other company found or that another was out to inspect gave all similar quotes and recommendations and assured us none of the finding from James were present. I contacted a few attic insulation providers to insulate our split level home, and decided to go with Green Attic for three reasons: 1) they discovered mold when the other two vendors did not 2) they were willing to work with us on the financing and are a ComEd certified vendor so we would get a rebate 3) they would put together a "pulley system" so we could easily open and close the insulation covering our house fan on the top floor Originally it was supposed to be a single day job, but it turned into two days, which was fine to ensure that everything was insulated appropriately. On the second day, when we were reviewing the attic before they left, we noticed that the pulley system was not put in. Because of their schedule they could not put it in then, but a week later they came back out to put it together, turning it into a three day job total. The four stars is due to the pulley system not being installed when the job was supposed to be completed, but all in all, it was a good experience. One of the employees, Hugo, stayed late on two occasions to make sure things were appropriately put together and cleaned up, which was greatly appreciated. The heat definitely turns on less, so we are excited to see how our electricity bill goes down over the next year. read more

Do not use this company. They have produced bad work and their communication is horrific. We contracted with them to install soundproof insulation in our condo ceiling. We had reasonable expectations for "soundproofing" but we were sold on James' communication to us that he would be very hands on during the project and that when they were done we "wouldn't hear a thing." The Green Attic team came out in January and when they were finished we didn't hear much of a difference. On top of that, the team put very deep scratches in our floors and took our personal set of keys with them when they left and did not return them for days, which made us very uncomfortable. We informed James of our feedback and he admitted that the crew did not do the job to the promised standards. He offered to have the team come back and make it right, which we accepted and gave them the benefit of the doubt. We scheduled the date for additional work and had to find somewhere else to stay again. A crew member called us directly and asked for directions on how to get in and asked what he was supposed to be doing there, something we thought exceptionally odd because he should've been informed by James, the project manager. I called James with no answer but got a message back stating the crew was having trouble parking and would have to try again later - we assumed that meant in a couple of hours. We called and messaged several times throughout the day for status updates and it was radio silence. It wasn't until midnight that I received a barely coherent text message that our work wasn't completed because the crew couldn't "find parking" - an excuse that would not hold up at any other job. We feel incredibly misled and completely disrespected by the abysmal communication. Such a frustrating experience, especially when you've turned over your trust to someone who is supposed to respect your home and time. If you value honest and responsive contractors, do not waste your time or money on Green Attic. read more

Update. I'm originally gave 4 stars but just updated to 2 stars. The guys work their butts off. The major problem was that the crew did not properly tape or ventilate the area once they realized they needed to drill through our ceiling about 60 times. We have a wacky old house, so no one realized they would need to do that. I had asked if we should move out or pack stuff and was told no. Well the dust coated everything. Green attic was great when i called and sent out an air scrubber and then a cleaning lady but it didn't get here for 3 days. The cleaning lady barely made a dent. We had to find a place to live really last minute with our dogs. It's was rough. I have serious health issues which I told them before they started. I had 5 asthma attacks before we moved out. I just wish they communicated before they drilled. But it's finally over and we are sorta starting to feel better. The company is good. The crew works so hard. It's just a shame we ended with such chaos. Just do yourself a favor and really pack up it's not worth being so sick. Original post: Really great hardworking team. I scheduled an energy assessment with Green Attic on March 11. My husband let the technician in and was talking to him about the process when I entered the room. I saw that he was not wearing a mask and asked if he would mind putting one on. I explained that I had cancer and needed to be extra careful about possible infection. The tech gave an ambiguous answer and went out to his truck. He reentered, wearing a surgical mask he later told me he had taken from the box we have available in the front hall. He said he was wearing the mask out of respect to me, but could not in good conscience proceed with the assessment. I asked if that was because I asked him to wear a mask and he answered affirmatively. I asked for clarification about whether there was a physical reason why it was infeasible to wear a mask while performing the assessment. He said he was having trouble breathing through the surgical mask, but he viewed it as a violation of his human dignity and freedom. I said OK, and he left the house without performing any work. Several hours later, I received an invoice from the company for the service that was not performed. I called the office to say I was unhappy to receive a bill under the circumstances, and told the office person that the tech had declined to perform the service, quoting his exact words. The office person seemed surprised at my report and said that she would speak with the manager. Later in the day, the technician himself called me. He started by questioning what I had told the office about the situation, because he felt the note left by the office worker misrepresented the encounter. I told him that I had quoted him exactly. I asked if he was a manager, and he said he was operations manager of the company. He then started to provide some information about his "perspective" on the low risk to me, referring to some information from the CDC website and his own personal experience getting COVID, among other things. I told him that I didn't want to argue with him and that it was enough for me that my oncologist had advised me to mask and exercise social distancing, so I wasn't going to defend myself for making this request in my own home. I eventually terminated the call. There was no information provided to me in advance through the website, emails or phone calls to alert me that the service provider would be unwilling to accommodate my request for a mask. It was a waste of time, both for us and Green Attic, to send out this technician. In the future, for any appointment involving this technician (who apparently is the only technician qualified to do a blower test), and for any similarly minded technician, Green Attic should inform the client ahead of time that the technician will not wear a mask, and let the customer decide whether to proceed with the appointment. read more

We chose Green Attic based on great reviews and don't have anything bad to say. They were really responsive, prompt, reasonable, and quick. Most of all, we've had roof issues since we bought our house 3 years ago and have spent heaps of money on roofers and a mason trying to figure out why our attic was wet. I wish I contacted Green Attic first because it seems the issue was that things weren't sealed and condensation was forming due to having nearly no insulation in our flat roof. They have a 5 year guarantee and that's more than any other contractor has offered us. They were in and out in a day and did their best to be tidy, cleaned up well and the workers wore masks. They offer rebates through Peoples Gas too so we saved a little there. I have no doubt the work will pay for itself based on how poorly we were insulated before. read more

I hired Green Attic to insulate three parts of my home. The attic and bathroom addition went fantastically, and walls went expensively wrong. While I would consider them again for straightforward work, hopefully my story will help other homeowners avoid the problems I faced. Green Attic's guidelines say they will only put insulation in walls if there are four or more inches of space. No one measured this ahead of time, relying instead on an inaccurate estimate from my neighbor. The day the work started, I tracked down the head of the crew, Charlie, to ask about this; since he assured me they could still get insulation into the one inch gap, I told him to go ahead. They were wrong -- as he told me at the end, they couldn't blow any significant amount of cellulose in. (I verified that both directly before they sealed the holes and from before-and-after temperature measurements.) I met with the owner of the company, Dumitru, to talk about this. He didn't use his imaging thermometer to show that there was more than trace insulation in the walls or take up my offer to open another hole to look. At one point he suggested, with a straight face, that I cut open a wall his crew had worked on and add insulation myself. In the end, Dumitru insisted that because I trusted Charlie's advice and ok'd the work, they had to charge me for it even though little insulation had been added. Despite the small discount he gave me, I'm out over $1500. Some contractors are partners, who will help you overcome problems to meet your goals. Other contractors are like tools, who can be used effectively but won't stop you from making mistakes. If you know how to use a tool for insulating, Green Attic will do good work; if not, make sure to keep an eye on what's happening and what can go wrong. read more

The Green Attic team came in and removed all of the old material, installed a new solar attic fan, changed the bathroom exhaust fan so it vents properly, and much more. They were friendly and professional, cleaned up after their work each day and completed the project ahead of schedule, which made my cats happy I had a positive experience from when they came out to inspect our attic and provide a quote to when they completed their work. This company doesn't seem very interested in "small jobs " per say. One of their guys came out and made a big mess in my house walking without shoe covers and spreading fiberglass insulation from the attic everywhere . How inconsiderate . After about an hour of figuring out how to go about insulating my house , he decided that they are way too busy and this job would be too small for a three man crew. So than why even confirm the appointment and waste my time? Another suggestion was to just live with my living room being cold because the split level home is a different science and too complicated . Incompetent in my opinion . Never even received an estimate after I asked for all the walls to be insulated and attic. Reached out the following day and no answer . Hope this saves another homeowner some time . read more

I had Green Attic insulate my third floor and build a storage platform inside an unfinished attic. What was a cold, drafty space is now not only usable, but is actually cozy. They weren't able to finish in one day, so we had to schedule a second day to get the rest done. The scheduling person wasn't very communicative, so I unexpectedly had to wait an extra couple days for them to finish the work, but the crew were very apologetic and went above and beyond to make up for it. I could not be happier with the quality of the work. Bottom line: make sure you get a final confirmation of your schedule in writing, and you'll be totally satisfied. read more

I found Green Attic via a Google search. I submitted an inquiry regarding insulation issues. I received a phone call within a day to schedule a consultation. James came out and conducted the assessment. He explained what the issue was, what caused the issue, how it can be resolved and the process in doing so. Not only did I agree to the proposal, but he was able to send a crew that same day. Truck T5, Alex, Omar and Herberth worked hard for two days at my home. They were professional and efficient. Each day the guys showed me pictures, without request, of the performed that day so that I would know what progress was made. I'm so pleased. DO NOT waste your money. The quote was about 3x what it should have been, but I was willing to pay extra for eco-friendly materials and they were very flexible with my schedule. The workers did a suboptimal job and communication was extremely challenging. The team did not finish within the expected time frame. There was damage done to the outside of my home which was not reported at the time. They demanded full payment in cash or check even though the job was not complete and a different team would have to come a different day although they could not tell me when. When I did not want to pay in full because they could not give me a receipt for payment their supervisor called me to berate me while the crew sat in a truck blocking my driveway at 6:30 pm. It was a very uncomfortable situation and for an outrageous price. No effort was made to resolve these issue. Do NOT recommend. read more

So, after my last review, Green Attic sent Tim Darling out to our house to inspect the work. According to Tim, Green Attic did what they were contracted to do. Which they did. Better communication at initial contract signing would have made this review a five star. I think people get insulation with the expectation that insulation will make your homes warmer. It will make your house warmer, however, other home improvement projects may help (re-caulking drafty windows and doors). I think that the re-caulking would have been cheaper and would have fixed our problem. Not at all Green Attic's fault or responsibility, but, as homeowners, we have to learn to troubleshoot our own property and not depend on contractors to be honest about the level of work that needs to be done. If they had come in and said, hey, maybe try re-caulking your windows and doors first. If that doesn't work, we're happy to come back out. You know what, we would have signed with them on the spot. read more

At the start of the year Green Attic Insulated the hip roof of our large 3.5 car detached garage in Chicago. Patrick came out to give us a quote. The garage is repurposed to be used as a studio. It's a conditioned space, kept at a steady temperature - Patrick recommended spraying it with closed-cell foam. He said they would have to be especially careful to protect the contents of the space from overspray, since this is a in-use space vs new construction. Patrick provided a very fair quote - not too high, not too low (especially considering the work that needed to be done). His crew came out, and did a fantastic job. There was no overspray, everything was masked off well, the foam looks great - evenly sprayed, consistent depth, no gaps. Good communication throughout the process to keep us updated. The studio is now a perfectly insulated year round space. We've even noticed a sizable decrease in our electric bill. We would use Green Attic again without hesitation! read more
