Great tasting Thai food in Calabasas! Green Basil Thai is tucked away towards the end of Las Virgenes Road, seemingly at the edge of nowhere. Only those that live in this area would likely stumble upon this place by chance, as there's really not a whole lot going on around it. Now that I'm working in the area, however, and thanks to Yelp, I decided to check this place out to see what it was all about. It did not disappoint. At about 12 noon on a Tuesday, we stopped in for lunch. The restaurant itself is pretty small, with just a handful of tables. There were only a couple other diners there when we arrived, but the restaurant did fill up as we were getting ready to leave. Service was nice, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The restaurant seemed fairly clean, and they were playing good music, which added to the Thai restaurant ambiance. For lunch, I ordered the pineapple fried rice, without raisins, priced at $12. My friend ordered the pad see ew with chicken, priced at $11. The food came out pretty quick, and the serving sizes were LARGE. More than enough to satisfy. In fact, neither of us could even finish our meal. Both dishes tasted great. I thought the flavors were delicious, and all of the ingredients were cooked well. My only complaint is not enough pineapple in the fried rice. Green Basil Thai offers authentic Thai food at an affordable cost. Considering the jumbo portions, it's actually a pretty good deal. You won't leave here hungry, as they very much hook you up, and the food all tastes delicious. The menu offers a good variety of dishes, with something for everyone. Been coming here for a few years and been happy. Tonight was really bad. Our waiter was wearing a varsity style outwear jacket as he waited tables. I do not expect a uniform but at last look like you are handling food and not changing the oil in my car. We had fried rice combo, beans and eggplant all not good. $57.00 plus tip. read more

One of the best, if not the best, Thai spots in the area. Also one of the only places to serve Boat Noodle out here. (Boat noodle is great - Rich, flavorful broth that clings on to tender rice noodles, topped with bright crunchy herbs). Food is excellent. Period. Casual Thai spot that doesn't disappoint. My girlfriends and I had dinner here and sat at our table for 3 hours catching up - and they didn't rush us out. The menu is long and our food came out hot. It has been a decade since I've had their food. I even forgot what I order from them but this is the kind of restaurant where you cannot forget the culinary experience. Tasty food but I wish their stir fry dishes had a little more sauce. Regarding take out orders, I'd like to remind the restaurant staff that there isn't good cell reception around the restaurant, so when you change the app-based pickup times we might not see the change if we're driving or parked outside. It's also hard to wait inside because it's a small restaurant. This next part of the review is more for the owners- I miss the friendly woman who used to work the takeout counter. The new guy in the green apron who does that station is rude and passive aggressive to customers. I thought he was having a bad day the first time he acted like this, but it's happened more than once and I've overheard him acting the same way with other customers. On my most recent visit he seemed annoyed I was early- I didn't see him change my pickup time while I driving. Ultimately my food was ready 20 minutes earlier than the 50 minutes he quoted me, but he didn't update the app until 5 minutes after I saw him toss my food bag on the pick up table while I was waiting in my car. I thought it was someone else's food because it was ready so much earlier than my quoted time, but after seeing no one go in to grab it I went and asked and discovered it was mine. It's frustrating for obvious reasons- it's a waste of time and the food is sitting around getting cold. Maybe choose someone else to be dealing with customers and take out orders front of house. read more

A very modest restaurant with a few tables for eating there, I'm guessing Green Basil does more of a take-out service. That being said, we ate there. There are two cooks in the back and one person up front who does everything else. While the food is very good, the service is not so good because this one waitress has to field telephone calls for takeout, take orders from dining-in patrons, provide beverages, write up food orders, bring out the food orders once filled, close out/ring up food bills...... you getting the idea? Poor girl is waaaaaaaaaay overworked, and thus, the service is somewhat slow. That being said, the food is very tasty and well prepared. We ordered Tom Kha Kai soup with chicken, as well as garlic chicken, garlic green bean with beef, pad thai with shrimp, and red curry chicken and vegetables. The dishes were authentic and very well prepared. All vegetables were perfectly crisp/tender. The crunch on the green beans was amazing. Meats were tender and not overly cooked. All flavors were well represented........ with the exception of one. Unfortunately, the red curry had no flavor. A little spice, yes, but not the wonderful curry flavor that I have come to know and love. It was kind of watery, too...... I'm used to a thicker sauce. That being said, no appreciable flavor. Yet, the chicken and vegetables in it were excellent in texture. All other dishes we ordered were right on point with flavor. Just the red curry lacked. Honestly, while the red curry issue may have been off the night we went, I think the service issue is ongoing. I don't know how busy they are at other times, but even though it's very small inside, that girl needs more help. She can't do it ALL herself. Owners...please take note. read more

So at work we have this thing called "Thai Fridays" where a lot of the guys in my department go out to eat Thai (meaning here) every Friday. Luckily it's not "Mexican Fridays" because the restaurant choice for that one isn't particularly good. If there is one food item to try here, it has to be the Pad Kee Mao. It's stir fried noodles made sort of like a Chow Fun but with a more garlicky taste with a mix of tomatoes, basil and peppers. The best part? You can customize the dish to your personal spicy level with 1 being if you're Goldilocks and want mama bear's bowl or 10 if you want your stomach to be begging to be doused by a fire hose at the end of it (though we do have one coworker who ate it as if it were nothing.) Though it is worth noting that the spicier flavors taste best when the owner cooks it. The other cook does a great job with the dish too, but on the spicier dishes he tends to just add more spicy seasoning rather than upping the pepper intensity like the owner (i.e. replacing the bell peppers with seranos and habeneros). read more

Alright, I did it again. Didn't plan on it happening, I stuffed myself. This is your basic, by no means fancy, causal neighborhood Thai restaurant with delicious dishes and good service. It's off the beaten path so ya gotta know where it is. There's a bunch of apartments across the street and we saw lots of take out orders happening, so I'm guessing the word is out. Within 15 minutes of arriving, we were eating our meals. My hubby ordered Nam Sod, which was ground chicken seasoned with fresh ginger, onion, peanuts and a chili lime dressing. Fresh carrots and lettuce we served on the side. I would have preferred romaine lettuce to iceberg, however, that's just me. We also ordered the pad Thai which was seasoned well however, the chicken was a bit tough. The green beans dish with garlic and tofu was amazing. The beans were tender crisp and the garlic flavor was just right. We requested the yellow curry with tofu and brown rice, yummy, that was my favorite dish here. Despite the other reviews of poor service, that was not the case tonight. We'll be back, it's a great little spot. read more
