Hand roll on special. I will think about this for a long time - so good!
Emily S.

This place had fantastic, fresh, and innovative sushi! I am shocked that it's not rated more highly and felt compelled to share my experience. I had a solo dinner at the sushi bar one evening while traveling for work. I tried a few things and they were all incredible and very fresh, but the hand roll on special was a standout selection! Service was attentive, fast and all staff were incredibly respectful and kind. There are other more hyped sushi places in the area, but this will be my new go-to. Fantastic! Kicking myself for not trying this place sooner.

Lunch Set B. Nigiri Sushi, Sashimi, & Assorted Tempura

I've been coming to Hanamk Sushi for over 15 years. The food here is good. Really good. There is fresh sushi and sashimi. Service is good and quick. On the last visit here, I got the three choice meal - tempura, nigiri sushi and sashimi. I enjoyed all of it Tasty food and a treat on the eyes as there are so many colors in the meal! My only downfall of this recently meal experience was the smell inside the restaurant. There was a heavy grease smell in the restaurant and my table mate and I went back to work smelling like grease. Wondering if it was only a problem that day? Never experienced it before and will still continue to patronize this restaurant because of its good food!

I'm not sure why this place has a low rating. The food is fireeeee. I usually get the crispy rice with tuna #2 with ponzu & extra jalapenos on the side, truffle edamame, salmon teriyaki, or chilean sea bass. Friendly service as well

I stopped by Hanami Sushi for the lunch the other day and I will be stopping by again. The lunch special is a great value and the food was awesome! You choose three items from a list of 6 options for only $22. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared by the staff. On top of that our waitress was friendly and took our order as soon as we were ready to order. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant definitely fit a Japanese style place. Hanami is definitely going to be a go to stop in Calabasas for myself!

Really fresh tasting uni

Had a late lunch break and stopped in. I was quickly greeted and seated. Service was attentive and quick. I got the black cod and uni sushi and both were phenomenal! Seemed relatively busy, and even tho it was a quick bite, multiple staff were here to cater to me, felt very exceptional!

Very cute and delicious sushi spot hidden away in Calabasas/Agoura area. My boyfriend absolutely loves the Toro Toro roll - I would recommend for Toro lovers. Staff is very kind and the owner always greets us and thanks us for visiting (very nice gentleman!) We love Hanami and have celebrated many events here.

It is my husband's birthday and he chose a place that we used to frequent when we lived in Calabasas. We now live in Thousand Oaks. We haven't been here since Covid 19. The decor has been upgraded and it's beautiful. The food is still the best sushi, since we moved here from upstate New York. Our server was wonderful. The experience reminded us that we need to make this a habit again...

This place is amazing my husband loves the baked muscle I'm a plane girl but I tried a lot this and everything was amazing but this is my plate I would just pick on my husbands stuff to try it and I love it the people there are amazing

Some sashimi plates come with much more than just the fish! Like the Yellowtail & ponzu/jalapeño or Albacore & crispy onion. The nigiri is masterful, omakase level. Carefully prepared and large!! The prices are a bit high but you get amazing portions, I left soooo full. The rolls are great too! The salmon onion was delicious. Very popular to add soy paper but we stuck with the seaweed. So much to try next time! Came on a Wednesday a little before opening and was sat in the first bunch. But the wait gets crazy!! So be prepared.

It's got everything that you need to make life painless and uncomplicated; that is, everything except really good, affordable sushi!!!!! There in, lies Sugarfish in Calabasas, CA the only thing me and my wife miss about LA. and CA. On our drive down from San Francisco last night, all we could think about was a L.A. affordable and delicious sushi dinner; and Sugarfish in Calabasas was our nearest and dearest accomplice in this scenario. Don't get me wrong, Chicago has excellent sushi restaurants! But, to get a dinner, like Sugarfish gave us this night, I would need an American Express Black Card to pay for it. At Sugarfish now, the "Itamae" or "Omakase Chefs" that prepare your dinner right in front of you are gone. Sugarfish has these preparers now in a kitchen, unseen but still are doing what they do best. Yet, the plates these artisans are giving you are sensational and best of all, not breaking your bank. We chose for this dinner - Two of THE NOZAWA TRUST ME at $40.00 each, consisting of: Edamame Tuna and Chutoro Sashimi - with ponzu and chives Albacore Sushi - ponzu and chives,- 2 pieces Salmon Sushi - toasted sesame - 2 pieces Toro Hand Roll Chutoro Sushi , 2 pieces Japanese Yellowtail* Sushi - lemon, 2-pieces New Zealand Sea Bream* Sushi - citrus salt, 1-piece Hirame Sushi - yuzu ponzu, 1-piece Blue & Dungeness Crab Hand Roll This $40.00 (each) extravaganza would have been $100.00 (or more) each, in good old Chicago. This dinner at Sugarfish was like a breath of fresh air that we have missed so much!!!! Thank you Los Angeles and Sugarfish for this lovely revisited dinner.

This spot feels more like a place you come to with family or for a spontaneous dinner when you're craving really good sushi without making a big formal plan. I came here with my wife and kids for a family dinner and everyone enjoyed it. The atmosphere can feel a little rushed because the restaurant is very busy and there's usually a long wait. You can tell they try to seat a lot of people and the dishes come out very quickly, which sometimes gives the feeling that things are moving fast. But at the same time, it's understandable because the place is always packed. The prices are completely reasonable for what you get. This isn't a luxury sushi restaurant, so the pricing makes sense and feels fair. Now about the food. If I could give the food alone 10 stars, I honestly would. Everything we tried was fresh and incredibly tasty. The G Roll is absolutely perfect and easily one of the best rolls I've had. All of the sashimi we ordered was fresh and delicious as well. We had a full family dinner there, my wife and kids tried different dishes, and everyone left happy and full. Definitely a place we will come back to.

Chef Jae guides you through a thoughtfully crafted $190 18 course "Taste Forest" that's sure to delight. When my husband and I showed up at the neighboring lounge (which does not open before the first Omakase dining slot at 5:30 pm), we weren't quite sure what to expect. When we told them we were there for the Omakase dinner at 5:30 pm, the staff kindly let us in out of the heat while they continued to prepare the space for service in both the lounge and restaurant. They don't have a liquor license so all cocktails are sake-based, but none the less enjoyable. They also offer beer and wine. We were offered a menu while we waited, and yes - any drink you purchase in the lounge may accompany you to your dining experience. You can also add on a sake-pairing to your omakase meal for $55 each. We very much enjoyed a Yuzu Cocktail and the sake pairing. The customer service was fantastic, personable, and filled with intention - but if I were to provide constructive criticism - somewhat clumsy on the delivery. Chef Jae had everyone introduce themselves and included a Chef mentee on finishing up the plating of the sushi. Chef Jae is talkative and clearly enjoys speaking with guests - this all lends itself to the homey feel of the experience - but some staff were so soft-spoken it was difficult to hear them as they introduced our sake pairings, and sometimes the service seemed poorly timed with the courses. I think with a little rehearsal of how they want to approach dinner service (mainly timing, introduction and flow) would provide some more confidence and better execution of the experience they clearly wished to impart. The food was fantastic, and truly felt like a journey. Everything is prepared in house, and of the best quality. My husband and I are sure to be thinking about our experience here for a long time, and will be recommending others to come check it out. Note: If an omakase experience is not in your budget, they also offer ala carte items.
