I am surprised by the bad reviews. We had excellent service. And the sushi was excellent as well. I got the macuto tuna, delicious. I got the yellowtail belly, like butter. Caterpillar roll, delicious. Excellent tempura. Those are kind of the basics that to me if they are good, the restaurant is good. Earlier in the week I tried another place in Westlake that was higher rated, and this place was far better. Few things to improve - The sushi rice was a little bit warm, must have been freshly made. But didn't take away from the experience. The salad dressing on the house salad was too much mayo-better to use one do the sesame or ginger vinegar based dressings. Try the rice beer! This is a good three-star option for value. Not the most amazing sushi but a varied menu, great for family dining. The service is also friendly, three stars for being attentive but not a lot of menu guidance. That's okay- they succeed at the most important aspects, which is bringing you your food in a timely fashion. Again, three stars on ambiance- the tables are spaced nicely, it's not too noisy and they have these movable sliding room dividers that are a bit awkward, but do serve as a privacy barrier. Hard to explain. Can't decide if I find them annoying or charming. They're not allowed of options in that part of town, especially for sit down. I've been coming to Hanamk Sushi for over 15 years. The food here is good. Really good. There is fresh sushi and sashimi. Service is good and quick. On the last visit here, I got the three choice meal - tempura, nigiri sushi and sashimi. I enjoyed all of it Tasty food and a treat on the eyes as there are so many colors in the meal! My only downfall of this recently meal experience was the smell inside the restaurant. There was a heavy grease smell in the restaurant and my table mate and I went back to work smelling like grease. Wondering if it was only a problem that day? Never experienced it before and will still continue to patronize this restaurant because of its good food! read more

I had a solo dinner at the sushi bar one evening while traveling for work. I tried a few things and they were all incredible and very fresh, but the hand roll on special was a standout selection! I stopped by Hanami Sushi for the lunch the other day and I will be stopping by again. The lunch special is a great value and the food was awesome! You choose three items from a list of 6 options for only $22. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared by the staff. On top of that our waitress was friendly and took our order as soon as we were ready to order. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant definitely fit a Japanese style place. Hanami Sushi is definitely a step up from your average neighborhood sushi bar. In fact, this restaurant actually has some pretty legit and authentic offerings. Walking in, you'll see many harder to find items imported from Japan right on their specials board, which may include wagyu from Miyazaki, Ma-saba (Wild Japanese Mackerel), Madai (Genuine Red Sea Bream), and much more. The variety and selection is pretty impressive for the area. I've only dined here twice, both times being for their lunch special, but if I lived in the area, I'd definitely try this place out for dinner. Looking at their photos, it appears as though they've had classic items like Kohada, Iwashi, and Sanma in the past. I'd be interested to see how good their dinner sushi is. Speaking to their lunch specials, Hanami offers some pretty decent deals. Both times I've went, I ordered the Combination B special ($15.95), which allows you to choose 3 items from a list of 8, and is served with steamed rice, miso soup, and salad. Choosing the sushi (4 pc nigiri) and sashimi (3 kinds) are no brainers, and my third choice has traditionally gone to the 8 piece California roll as a filler item. Overall, the sushi is pretty good, but I wouldn't say great. The tuna was admittedly a little tasteless, but I did appreciate the small details, like adding wasabi in between the rice and neta (fish), and marinating the albacore and shiromi (white fish) so that soy sauce wasn't necessary. For $15, it's a decent value. During my most recent trip to Hanami (last Friday), service was extremely good. The servers were very fast, efficient, and attentive. If you're in a rush for lunch, I'd say you can definitely power through your meal here. I sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The atmosphere and ambiance are nice, and service is friendly. Go ahead and check this place out if you're in the area and hungry. It's not a bad spot to stop in at. read more

Stopped by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Hanami Sushi is a nice option within Creekside Village in Calabasas. They do not take reservations for lunch, yet may do so during dinner hours. There is no problem finding a table mid-day. The restaurant serves fresh Sushi in a casual setting with extremely attentive service. We ordered some specialty rolls on my first visit and enjoyed everything. As of this review, I have not tried most of the Sushi options in the area. I order from this restaurant once a week, and I have come in for dinner a couple times. The food has always been great, but the service - left much to be desired. And today was the worst experience I've ever had dining in a restaurant. I came in to eat with my sons. They were clearly very busy, especially with all the takeout orders. The 3 servers ran around like chickens with their heads cut off. My one son got his order, but the other one got his only 30 minutes later after the first one was done. When his order finally arrived, I asked for a fork for him, he didn't get it for 20 min until I managed to get our server's attention again. We spilled some sauce on the table and I cleaned it with napkins, but we had to sit at a messy table - no one bothers to clean up or check in with us to see if we needed anything. Getting a server's attention was almost to impossible. My boys wanted desert, so after a few failed attempts to get our server's attention, I managed to get another very unhappy and exhausted server to take our order. She looked annoyed that we needed something. I asked for 2 desert dishes to go and a check. 30 min later - nothing. Apparently our server didn't know anything about the order. At that point we had already spent 2 hours in the restaurant trying to be patient and understanding. I went to talk to the manager who throughout all this time paid zero attention to what was going on on the floor because he was too busy putting together takeout orders and yelling at sushi chefs. I explained to him that I am a frequent customer and order from them every week, but today we are dining in and the experience has been very poor. Instead of engaging with me and asking what went wrong he barked at me "We are doing the best we can!" I tried to explain that the food didn't arrive at the same time, one child had to wait for 30 min to get his dish after the first one was done, the service was poor, the table dirty, and the servers were forgetful and inattentive. He didn't even look at me. I asked if he could give us a discount to compensate for the poor experience. His answer: "You order the food - you pay!" So I did. And I still left at tip because I didn't want to punish the sushi chefs or the servers for their poor manager. But we are not coming back and I will take my weekly orders some place else. I know that restaurants are understaffed and overwhelmed right now. But that is not an excuse to provide such poor experience to diners and to be incredibly rude. If you know that you are having such a busy night with people dining in and placing phone orders - you can shut off 3rd party orders to keep things manageable. But the GREED to fulfill all digital orders apparently is greater at this place than the desire to provide good customer experience to diners. read more
