I've been here a few times always ordering the vegetarian Drunken Noodles. Today I asked if I could get the Drunken Noodles with fish. It was probably the best Thai meal I've had in 1.5 years of living in Los Angeles. The restaurant is clean. The aromas are always pleasant. The staff is friendly. I can always find a parking spot. Tasty food but I wish their stir fry dishes had a little more sauce. Regarding take out orders, I'd like to remind the restaurant staff that there isn't good cell reception around the restaurant, so when you change the app-based pickup times we might not see the change if we're driving or parked outside. It's also hard to wait inside because it's a small restaurant. This next part of the review is more for the owners- I miss the friendly woman who used to work the takeout counter. The new guy in the green apron who does that station is rude and passive aggressive to customers. I thought he was having a bad day the first time he acted like this, but it's happened more than once and I've overheard him acting the same way with other customers. On my most recent visit he seemed annoyed I was early- I didn't see him change my pickup time while I driving. Ultimately my food was ready 20 minutes earlier than the 50 minutes he quoted me, but he didn't update the app until 5 minutes after I saw him toss my food bag on the pick up table while I was waiting in my car. I thought it was someone else's food because it was ready so much earlier than my quoted time, but after seeing no one go in to grab it I went and asked and discovered it was mine. It's frustrating for obvious reasons- it's a waste of time and the food is sitting around getting cold. Maybe choose someone else to be dealing with customers and take out orders front of house. read more

You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu here! Whether it's to dine in (very casual) or to go, Green Basil serves up authentic, tasty, and reasonably priced Thai food. The Thai yellow curry is one of my faves (comes with rice), and the Pad See Ew (meat or veggie) is super yummy! The spices they use, smell and taste just like I had in Thailand, and you can customize the strength of the curry, mild, medium, hot. I always go for medium and it's perfect on my taste buds! Therefore the delivery was 40 minutes later than the latest delivery time they stated. Our driver said they had only one person working the delivery order counter and were very disorganized. Service: 4/5: ordered pickup and everything went well Food: 3/5: I have had a lot of Thai food and I was a little disappointed with my Shrimp Pad Thai. Don't get me wrong it wasn't t horrible, but it was missing flavor and therefore a little bland. Maybe it was an off day and I am open to try it again, but I will not order the pork jerky again. This was my first time I ordered pork jerky at a Thai restaurant. I don't know what I was expecting but the jerky was also lacking in flavor. Also, the texture was a bit too hard and chewy. Very disappointed. Here are some of the reasons we gave them 1 star: - Food was not very good. My son did not like the Chicken Satay, it was too rubbery, my daughter's Pad See Ew had too much pepper, and my Yellow Curry tasted more like Indian curry and did not have any potatoes as described in the menu. - Limited Lunch Specials - they had 3 items you could choose from on a given day and then did not allow substitutions (e.g. tofu instead of chicken) - Plastic Straws - they gave us plastic straws without us asking which is not only bad for the environment but violates California's new law - Extra Full Charge for Brown Rice - my curry was supposed to come with rice, but I asked for brown rice. Usually, most restaurants charge $0.50 or $1 to upgrade, but they charged me $2.50 as a side order of brown rice. - Food arrived at different times. I received my curry first. About 3 minutes later, my son got his Satay and about 7 minutes after that, my daughter got her noodles. (I'm not exaggerating about the time, I looked at my watch) - Service was okay, nothing special, it would have been nice if they would have checked in with us during our meal Needless to say, we won't be coming back, I'd rather go to McDonald's down the street (and that's saying a lot) Good luck to everyone, hope it helps improve their restaurant. read more

Used to eat here years ago, maybe it's changed management I dunno. But I can tell you back around 5 years ago this place made myself and my boss (which is how I know it was Green Basil) sicker than I've been in my entire life. We're talking full blown projectile vomiting, shakes, fever etc. We both had the chicken pad thai and both got violently ill within half a day and no...nothing was going around the office. Probably also worth note that we used to jokingly refer to the place as, "The Green Cockroach" as one of our co-workers found a roach in his meal. Now admittedly every kitchen *EVERY* kitchen will have insects as they come in on the produce, but it's the job of the cook and wait staff to insulate you from these harsh realities LOL. Despite this knowledge we continued to eat there because the food was...well, it was pretty tasty. Having said all that, I divorced myself of this place after the food poisoning episode. I mean that was, I kid you not...a life altering experience. I used to think a case of the shits was, "food poisoning" no, that's simply, "food that didn't agree with you" this was FULL BLOWN food poisoning. I think I did contact the restaurant to tell them and I don't recall what the redress was if anything. If it's still in the strip mall Michaels Pizza is great, that place never let me down. Save for the time I watched a kid buy the farm on a sport bike, twas sobering to watch to say the least. A real appetite suppressor all that...may he RIP. read more

Lunch time, a time when we decide to take the risk of an impending food coma in order to accommodate our needs of getting out of the office. Well, when great grub is involved take the risk! Especially with this HITW (Hole in the wall) in Calabasas off the 101. The lunch specials are amazing. You have to try Yellow curry chicken with pineapple & coconut milk if your in a chicken mood. If your in a pork mood, I would suggest the Red curry pork with Green basil & coconut milk. You want beef, try Beef with fresh mushroom, onions & ginger. Those are must tries. They have other items on their menu, but those will leave you wobbling out. To wash these beauties down, grab yourself a Thai Tea. Service is great, the server takes care of you. Parking is a non issue, just park on the street. Come down, prep up, grab a pillow for the ride back, because food coma will be waiting. Sleep with a smile. read more

OKay as much as I love this place I really don't like that they are closed on SUNDAY. They are pretty busy during the week, but where am I supposed to get the BEST thai food in the Valley on a Sunday? Vegetable fried rice: Must have, even if you are not a vegetarian you will go crazy over this dish. It is by far the tastiest fried rice I've ever had. I've eaten here twice, and both times the food taste good enough but it gave me diarrhea (I think it's the Tom kha soup). Service is mediocre. I think one of the servers may be deaf because I tried to get her attention many times and she doesn't acknowledge me even for a moment. I would drive by this restaurant every now and then and see how busy it gets. I like small family owned restaurants, so one night my husband and I decided to go. It was a Tuesday night around 4:30 and they were already out of chicken satay and game hen. So disappointed, we started off with a bowl of the glass noodle soup (it had ground chicken meat balls) I got a cup of the hot and spicy shrimp soup (too sour where it made my teeth hurt), Chicken pad Thai, Chicken larb and Chicken with string beans.
