    Portobello panini (mmm)
    Diana S.

This has been one of the best discoveries for breakfast/brunch. They are located in the basement of a church. The coaches are cozy, wide, perfect for spending time with friends or by yourself (free wifi). The guys at the counter were friendly, fast, and accurate. If you ask for coffee they'll give you a cup to pour it yourself in the machine. We ordered a tropical smoothie that was fantastic, it helped us to relieve the heat damage with healthy fruits. The portobello panini was delicious. It was perfectly grilled, with melted cheese, red pepper, and chubby slices of juicy portobello (100% recomendable). I couldn't finish it all while warm, once at home I got munchies, even cold it tasted awesome!!! I checked-in there, found a cookie for treat. The cookie was exquisite as well.

    Mmm.. chai tea latte.

As a coffee house, I'd rate this a 4. As a spot to grab some grub? A 3. Staff has always been super friendly and helpful, and they make a great chai tea latte. All but one food item I have tried has been incredibly bland, and portions are on the small side. The one item that I would order again? The morning glory wrap - a tasty tortilla filled with peanut butter, yogurt, granola and bananas. Based on the description, I did not think it would be that great, but its quite good. The space is cool. They've got free wifi (code is at the register on slips of paper) and have open mic Thursday evenings. Green Bean Cafe is close to campus, and offers up some good drinks, so I'll be back.

Location is not noticeable. Coffee is just a 3-star. And relatively expensive as a cafe.

I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft or hard roll. Extras: Peppers (+.50) Cheese (+.50) - (Turkey is reserved for the "Other Subs). 6 Layers Meat, 1 Layer Cheese --- $8 8 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $9 12 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $12 14 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $13 18 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $14 The subs are heavy and delicious. The Service is ultra friendly. And the atmosphere feels like and Italian Deli-Market. I recommend it.

Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.

Perfect weather had us outside and the service was good. I toured some of the best beers of my life - Blue, Molson Canadian, and OV. The food was great - best steak sandwiches I had in a while + poutine! I didn't know what poutine really was, but cheese curds and gravy over fries was great and I'm somewhat lactose allergic - no real reaction. Too bad I do t live closer.

We stopped here for lunch after looking at a couple different places. We LOVED it! We sat inside near the bar, the kitchen is by the bar in the open so you can watch them cook. The server was great. He was the only server and they had a nice lunch crew so the wait was I would assume a little longer than normal, but not slow enough to be upset by. He did a great job keeping up. The food was delicious! Hubby ordered the Pizza Burger and I ordered The Benny. We both did an upgrade to our fries because we wanted to try the tater tot poutine and the onion rings. We split the sides and were blown away with the flavor. The burgers were divine. Anytime we are in the area this will definitely be a lunch stop for us.
