I hired Green Construction Builders to replace my front fence, install a new driveway gate, and redo my driveway entirely. The existing fence had no curb appeal, a driveway gate that was too narrow and the driveway itself was a poorly sloped, crumbling concrete pad. The transformation is remarkable. From initial texts/calls before even starting work, continuing through the job as work progressed, and all the way to the end of the job, Lawrence was extremely responsive. When evaluating our backyard for the deck I wanted built, Lawrence caught nearly every detail that would ensure the deck would be built properly and of the highest standards. Lawrence and his team did an amazing job on our backyard. I like that he's a contractor that has a lot of experience with backyards and he's also able to do the plants/trees for landscaping. PRICING: The quote was very fair. I had quoted a couple of other backyard contractors and Green Construction Builders came in the middle. Lawrence called out all of the materials costs separately. He gave me an estimate but called out that prices for things like wood to fluctuate so it's hard to estimate exactly. There are many materials to think about (wood, pebbles, cement truck labor and materials, artificial grass, wood chips, railing etc) DETAILED: Green Construction Builders had great attention to detail. I had a landscape architect do the drawings and Lawrence called out some things that we could not build based on the drawings. Instead of going back and forth with the architect, he worked with me to figure out an updated solution. The issue was we could not build cement planters right up against our carport or the moisture would seep thru to the carport and rot the wood. He showed me how we could adjust the plan and we were happy with the updates. QUALITY: Lawrence and his team go above and beyond. Not only did they build us a beautiful backyard, but the quality of the work was amazing. The deck railing was tricky with the angles and different landings, but he made it work. He also did little things like painted the edges of deck wood pieces to keep them from rotting and added a water proof material under the deck to prevent wood rot too. TIMING: His timing was on schedule as he originally quoted, but the 2 things he needed to schedule that were out of his control were what pushed our project out a bit. Scheduling the concrete truck to align with the project schedule took some time. Getting a custom railing took about 12 weeks which was a long time. We were fine with waiting and had the back yard done and just were careful without a railing for a bit. I would definitely work with Lawrence and hist team again for future projects! read more

My husband and I hired Lawrence, Kong, and their team this summer to be our contractors to oversee our home renovations in San Francisco for a primary bathroom gut/remodel, kitchen remodel, wood floor installation on our stairs and downstairs level, and a few minor additional projects (e.g., drywall/door replacement, recessed TV mount). Overall, we had a great experience working with them and would highly recommend Green Construction Builders. Specifically, there were a few things that stood out: 1. High quality output: Lawrence and team take pride in their work and the output shows - their craftsmanship is very high quality for value and even minor details were closely considered and cared for. For example, our kitchen countertop has a large (wide/long) peninsula that other contractors might have required multiple stone slabs to construct, but Lawrence's stone vendor was able to cut, transport, and install the peninsula countertop in one slab despite it taking several more hours to get the slab into our home and installed (vs. if we cut this section into multiple pieces). The mitered edges on the waterfall also look seamless, which makes a huge difference and gives a clean and elegant look overall. 2. Efficient work ethic: As with any construction project, there were unexpected issues that arose with each phase. In each instance, Lawrence and his team always tried to mitigate delays by proposing alternative solutions or having an extra person come onsite to finish the job on time. In addition, whenever Lawrence gave us an ETA on when something would be completed, he delivered on these deadlines, which gave us great confidence in his team to get the job done right and on time. Our entire project from start to finish took 4 months, which, given the size of the job, is impressive. 3. Trustworthy and respectful demeanor: I am not a particularly trustworthy person, but Lawrence and his entire team gained my complete trust and respect with the way they operated. They always knock and take off their shoes before entering, they were always mindful of our space (especially the space they weren't working on), and they were always so polite and communicated with patience and respect, even when things were stressful. My husband and I were on vacation multiple times throughout this project and didn't think twice about letting Lawrence and his team, as well as his vendors, enter and continue working, which is saying a lot in San Francisco! We've worked with Lawrence for a few years now. We started with our yard in 2017, then did our bathroom in 2018, and our garage in 2020. Lawrence has great vision, attention to detail, and workmanship. Most of all, we trust him! Lawrence transformed the exterior of our home. We hadn't taken great care of our yard since we moved in. We have an older, traditional San Francisco home, and Lawrence modernized it with new fencing over our backyard and side yard, low water plants, dry pebble creek, irrigation system, lighting, concrete platforms, extended driveway, and trench drainage. What we appreciated most was how proactive he was. For example, before he cemented our driveway, he noticed we still had old terracotta pipes leading to our home (probably 80+ years old) and he replaced them with newer pipes before he laid the concrete so we wouldn't have to eventually break up our new driveway. He made our yard usable, enjoyable and long-lasting, and we couldn't be happier! In 2018, we redid our master bathroom to maximize our space-- new cabinetry, double sink and tiling. Lawrence put a lot of thought into the remodel, often sending ideas for layout and design. And he was very patient with me when I sent over my crazy ideas. We eventually chose a layout his wife came up with and it worked perfectly! Our bathroom now feels open, modern and functional! We updated our garage in 2020. It was dark, damp and dingy-- and rodents would pop in for a visit every now and then. It was not a place I wanted to spend any time in; let alone store additional food or supplies. We called Lawrence and his guys over to help make the space feel like it was part of our home. They added insulation, closed up the walls with plywood, sheet rocked the ceiling, added a sink, installed new lighting, redid the electrical, and epoxy-ed our floors. We LOVE our garage now! My husband added some cabinets and shelving-- and the whole space feels so much brighter, cleaner and usable. We can store SO much now without the worry of any rodents chewing up our things. Our 1906 home is uphill from the sidewalk, so there was a 4 foot retaining wall at the sidewalk to hold the front yard in place which began to crack after 100 years due to street tree roots. Lawrence and his team tore out the old wall (fortunately very old roots held the soil in place) , and replaced it while preserving the front yard planting. When a drain in our rear yard clogged with sand, he cleared it out and replaced the drain, A few years later he replaced and stained the cedar shingle siding on our high 2 story house. He was extremely responsive and efficient in all the work. Lawrence has a great attitude. He is reasonable, thorough and always leaves a clean work area and a happy client. We have been in our home for over 10 years and always wanted to redo the backyard. Over the years, we met with 3 landscape contractors with a range of ideas and quotes. Eventually, we came to find Lawrence through friends whose yard he did. Green Construction Builders was the perfect combination of creative ideas and cost. Even with inflation over the last 10 years, the quote came in less than the prior ones we received. And the quality of the work has been exceptional. It's been a couple months since completion of our project and we couldn't be happier with the results. Scope of work: 1) Re-grading of backyard. I discovered Green Construction when I saw a neighbor's new fence door and asked for their contractor's info. Lawrence was quick to respond and was able to basically replicate what I saw my neighbor had. I tried getting quotes for the same type of fence last year, but either the other fence companies stated it wasn't suitable for the ground layout I had, or it would cost an astronomically high amount. Anyhow, I wish I took before pictures of our dragging fence gate on both left and right sides (both have had to get repaired over the past 12 years about half a dozen times), but I'll post the after pic soon. Price was reasonable as Lawrence explained how quotes can get extremely high if given some of the "cosmetic add on" options, which I was never told was optional and would not affect the performance or longevity of the gate.
