Love love love this place! If I lived in Gig Harbor I would shop here for my pets. I live in Seattle and needed to help my mom (who lives in the area) pick up food for her dogs. The owners are a charming lovely couple with warm friendly personalities. I had my French bulldog puppy and adult frenchie with me and they spoiled them with their favorite freeze dried raw treats. They sent me home with of the treat samples for my pets and food samples for my moms dogs. If there's something you need they can order for you. I had my arms full with the puppy and one of their workers even helped carry the heavy dog food to my car. Please shop local! read more

The kind folks at Green Cottage Pets have been very helpful navigating raw food selections when our dog got a cancer diagnosis. We are happy to report there have been no additional tumors and she has stopped throwing up with regularity which has really improved her quality of life. Having a local store with knowledge staff is awesome as not all dog foods are created the same. Sadly, most are packed with fillers and additives at best they don't need and at worst that are doing them harm. It has a friendly atmosphere if slightly cramped and the owner is always ready with healthy treats for our dog and knows us all by name. Another store was out of what I needed, so I popped in here as they also carry a particular brand - they didn't have it either, but in short order managed to tick me off with the argumentative sales pitch regarding what to feed and so on., Large breed dogs have different needs than small ones and if my vet says I have a large breed pup then it really doesn't matter your opinion. This place is tucked away off Harborview Drive, down a cute little dirt path lined with little lights. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable, and they never get annoyed with all my questions (my cat has food allergies). They specialize in natural, holistic pet foods and accessories. Pets are welcome, of course :) So glad we found this place on "our side" of the bridge, though Next to Nature in Tacoma also has good service and a great selection. read more

While on a recent trip to Tacoma for a trade show, we explored the beautiful little town of Gig Harbor Washington. A few years back, while attending a similar trade show, we had met a nice gentleman who owned a pet store called Green Cottage Pets. Since that day it has been on our bucket list to visit his shop. We were not disappointed. A more genuine experience isn't possible. Both Tom and Anna were so kind and passionate about their business. It was like walking into their home. I had such an upsetting experience today that It wasn't even worthy of one star. The woman behind the counter who was assisting me with cat food options stopped and gave a treat to a puppy who had just come in. No problem there until she said to me, "sorry, dogs take precedence in here." I was shocked and told her that I found that insulting when I was in there to buy cat food. She laughed and then said "dogs are our favorites." I was horrified and walked out. If I was the business owner this rude employee would be gone in a nano second. read more

I'm giving them 2 stars because they were helpful at first.... We started going to Greens about 2 months ago because we wanted to give our pets the best quality food and to buy local. Tom is very passionate about pet food and so is the other woman there. We finally made the switch with the dog and cat food from Greens but started noticing changes in our pets.... Not for the better. So we thought the best way to remedy that was to add salmon oil. When we went back to the store they kind of laughed at us but finally allowed us to get the salmon oil. Dogs loved it but it only lasted a week for the biggest bottle for that brand of oil. We went back and the woman there gave us a bigger bottle of a different brand. Within 2 days the dogs stopped eating. When you leave Greens they always say if it doesn't work just bring it back... Well, I took it back with both Tom and the woman there and they asked why I bought a bigger bottle of the dogs didn't like it???? Really??? You guys at Greens recommend it!!! The woman giving me a hard time! Tom was so upset, he threw the salmon oil and 2 cans of cat food I was just switching out on the counter! I told him I wanted to try a different dog food from him but since he's acting the way he is I guess I don't need to. So disappointing when you want to help local mom and pop stores and they act like this. Simply no need for that kind of attitude. read more

As a first time visitor to down town Gig Harbor I was not familiar with parking. I parked in a spot with two signs posted. One stating it was for "green cottage pets" and another sign indicating it was for the surrounding shops. When I returned to my car the owner of this establishment had my vehicle blocked in. He rudely asked if I could speak English, then if I could read English, and proceeded to explain to me in a volatile manner that I was in his spots. I had my kids with me, I immediately apologized, and told him I had read the second part of the sign that stated it was for the shopping area. He would not accept my apology, continued to argue with me in an extremely angry manner, and at one point threatened not to not let me out of the spot. Despite apologizing multiple times I was not able to de-escalate his manner towards me. I started to pull out my phone and he finally drove away. My daughter was in tears in the car and told me she was scared. He could have handled this in a better way. Instead I will never visit this pet shop and warn friends and family of this owners erratic behavior. read more

This place knows their stuff whether about food,toys, or rememdies for dogs allergies. Always attentive when you come in, and usually hand out samples of food if not sure what is best for the pup. If anything is out of stock it is promptly replaced or you will be called the minute it is in. I have been buying my dog food and supplies here for the last 5 years and will continue to be loyal because of the service. Also has a location in Tacoma. read more

Absolutely love this place! We were in Gig Harbor for my husbands eye appointment and found this place! They are so informative and very polite! Will coming there to get our dogs teeth cleaned very soon! Lots of food and treats that are great for your animals! We've been trying to switch our cats food and they gave us samples before we decided to buy! Will be going back down soon to pick up the food he likes (Lotus) and they also have our dogs food (Canidae). He treats we will be back for as well since our dog is so picky and allergic to certain things (Poultry/Chicken) and our cat is picky about the flavor of food (he doesn't like chicken or fish.) Better than PetCo and PetSmart hands down! Don't mind the drive from Lakewood to this place to get great quality of food and great service with informative conversations!!!! read more

The knowledgeable staff at Green Cottage Pets was able to listen to the issues my dog was having with her skin and coat, look at her and devise a plan that worked! In the last year we spent hundreds of dollars at a speciality dermatology clinic that never was able to diagnose her issue or treat it. On a whim ( and because of positive yelp reviews) I went in to talk to the owners of Green Cottage Pets, they suggested switching food and adding in a supplement. It has been 3 weeks and already my dog isn't itching, dandruff is gone and her coat is shiny. Thank you!! read more

Great experience here every time. The owner recommended food that has been perfect for our dogs. Recently I was tired of fighting with one of my dogs over the choke collar, so the owner provided us with a harness to try for our walk instead. He actually let us barrow the harness so we could decide if we liked it before paying for it. Needless to say, the no-pull harness worked perfectly making walks a much less stressful experience for both myself and the dog. They always make great suggestions regarding food, treats and medicine. Our dogs get lots of treats every time we visit! I highly recommend this local business. read more

This is an AMAZING pet store. When I was looking to get a cat they gave me lots of samples of cat food for my cat to try. They were very helpful and kind. When I did get a cat I let him try all the samples they had given me and he picked his favorite. I put out a few samples a day and which ever one he at the most of I put out again the next day with a few other flavors. After about 5 days there was a clear winner, 'Lotus Oven baked chicken'. I would recommend this store to anyone who is interested in getting healthy, grain free and/or holistic food for their furry friends :) read more

I wish I could really like this place, but I cannot. Their selection is great! I also do extensive research on dog food and feel confident in my choices. However, each and every time I come in there the owner, Tom, uses his fear tactics regarding my food choices or my breed of dog. All negative. The store manager is rude and really did not want to stop what she was doing and ring me up. Wow! For a small business owner, I certainly expect better. I would much rather do business with another company or even, order on-line. Sadly, I cannot recommend this place. read more

I agree with what the other reviewers have stated, but I found that they were never able to keep their shelves stocked with our preferred brand. Frequently, we would go in and they would be out or they stopped carry the item. Tom was always having my dogs try assorted foods.One of the dogs ended up with such a troubled digestive system due to all the food changes we had to go with the brand that DID NOT cause these issues for her, and that meant going elsewhere.. We have been loyal shoppers for 5 years and the last year or so proved challenging. The lack of stocked items was a consistent problem and we need a store we can depend on to carry the food when we need it. I truly wished we could have continued buying our dog food from them, as we like to support our small businesses, but it was just not possible. read more

I am pretty sure this is the BEST pet store I have ever been to. My dog actually found it as I was heading to Tacoma from bainbridge she was acting like she had to potty so I pulled off the highway and thought id find a green patch down by the water when she took off and led me directly to this store and nosed open the door. Not only was the staff extra helpful with information about my dogs food alergies they sent me home with a stack of printed out information but they also sent me home with a bag of samples for my itchy super picky dog knowing full well I don't live in town and probably wont come back every month for supplies. They went so far as to recomend good stores in my erea. If only all stores could deliver this level of customer service. We happened to be visiting Gig Harbor on a whim and stopped at this pet store with our Old English Sheepdog. We are extra sensitive of what we feed our dog because some foods tend to upset his stomach. The owner was super knowledgeable about pet foods and knew what exactly we should feed this breed of dog. He gave us a bunch of free dog food samples and we put our dog on one that is now perfect. I'm so glad we found this place, I only wish we lived closer to this shop. read more

It is so clear that the owners/staff truly care about pets and their health. I told them I did not live in WA, but Tom took the time to explain about dietary needs (and especially, what they don't need), and gave me a brochure about what ingredients to avoid and which ones to look for. Tom even recommended a specific brand of dry/wet food that was pretty nutritionally solid, that could be found more likely in random pet stores, just to ensure that my dogs got the best food. Knowing that I did not live in town and would not be buying larger items (dry food, etc.), did not stop them from providing exceptional customer service. It's all about the caring! I did buy almost a pound of mixed organic treats (well priced for such quality). My dogs can be a bit picky, so I was not sure if they would like the treats that were not "meat-based" (e.g. charcoal with peppermint, potato mix, etc.), but they love them! Before I left, Tom handed me a business card and told me to call if I ever have any questions about the food I'm buying. I thought that was really thoughtful! I wish there was an awesome pet store with such knowledgeable staff like Green Cottage Pets in my area! read more
