Hello from this steamed poodle mom in Gig Harbor. I was pretty shocked at the 758 AM call to my cellphone, waking me and my husband up on Monday morning. I felt like Mr. Magoo looking for my glasses ... she took me by surprise! But for some, 8 AM means the day is half over, and I understand that... her attitude was so rude and entitled .. I really couldn't believe it. When I told her I couldn't change the time I booked my dog... an afternoon appointment made a week prior, to THAT MORNING "as soon as I could get there"... whaaa? 'NO no no no. I cannot do that. I don't have a way to transport him this early, you woke us up here, *(no apology or response, just kept steamrolling ... she didn't take a breath... She was ARGUING with me! Calling me, at 7:58 AM..waking me up and ARGUING with me!!! Wanting me to come in sooner so she could get off earlier? Really, Petco? Once I got my coffee in me and put on my Mr. Magoo glasses, I called store back... got the manager named "Joe". He was very nice but didn't have the ability to confront the employee he was afraid of her I think... ahahaha... wow. Just bad, bad, bad, all the way around. read more

I bought a bag of dogfood yesterday. $80. I guess that is a thing now. My dog has allergies and one of the ingredients is on the do not feed list. I was in a hurry and left town right after buying the food. My wife noticed an ingredient on the bad list and attempted to return the dogfood. Nope, No receipt and not a member of the Petco Peeps loyalty program. No refund, not sorry, goodbye. This is a very creative way to treat customers who are willing to pay $80 to help Oakley stop licking his paws. This is real Harvard Business Gold. Great Petco location. The staff here was great, the selection and prices were fair and we got a few last minute needs for our dog for the Fourth of July weekend. We were looking for a collar and walking trainer and found great options at the store here in Gig Harbor. We wanted a few special treats for the dogs at the party and found some great rawhide alternatives. The staff was awesome and friendly, they were closing an hour early for the holiday and were excited to have the night to celebrate America's independence. read more

Absolutely DISGUSTING store. Poorly taken care of reptiles especially. Their young veiled chameleon had what looked to be an advanced eye infection and could barely look around. Dead feeder instects left in water dishes for extended amounts of time as well. The person who "helped" me claimed that the poor chams inability to look around was "normal". They had also claimed that the lump on its eye was normal and would go away. No it wont. That chameleons infection will worsen and will die if not treated quickly. It takes quite a while for an infection to develop into that large polyp too. Disgusting. Don't come here. read more

I've been taking my dog to this Petco location on and off for 5 years. Unless Crystal is there, I would recommend going to the North Tacoma location instead. The grooming department is not currently professional at all. I walked in today and was told that they couldn't groom my dog as scheduled as there wasn't time. They claimed they called...no messages or texts. I asked if my dog could just get a bath instead but apparently the guy scheduled to groom was at lunch...no problem solving attempted. Been getting my old dog groomed there for years. Standard monthly appointment. Same dog same age as a month ago. Same health conditions. They refused to groom him today with no notice. We kept our appointment which then had on the books for months and they refused us. So disappointed. Gues old dogs don't need grooming. read more

This store feels weird. Also very unprofessional. I applied for a job there and the interview went so bad on their end (they didn't know what to say or ask) I ignored their calls after it. It feels dirty. It's unorganized. I dread when I have to go to this store. I much prefer traveling the extra distance to petsmart in gig harbor. They're clean, very organized, always have things in stock, and you don't have to wait around 15 minutes to get help for live animals or checkout. read more

So much expertise has been lost due to the pandemic. It seems to be all new staff in the grooming salon, and very little expertise. There used to be groomers who loved the dogs, made them feel welcome, and knew the difference between a german shepherd and a springer spaniel--in terms of how to trim them. Woah. . . . my springer, with his lovely long ears, came out today with half-ears. Trimmed right down to the skin. Be careful if you go there. Be sure they know what kind of dog you have and what it's supposed to look like. Don't assume they know what they are doing. read more

They sold me a dying bearded dragon. I bought my beardie for $100 and did not realize that I bought him WITH metabolic bone disease AND trichomonas. After countless vet visits, dozens of antibiotics, and hundreds of dollars he finally started to get better and we got hopeful. Then all of a sudden he became lethargic with no appetite and not even strong enough to pick his head up. With MORE vet visit and again, hundreds of dollars, he started to get better and was able to use his back legs after about a month and then all of a sudden two days ago, he died. No warning, nothing, he was getting better and then he was just dead. I would like to say, I did a year of research before getting him, I have a fantastic set up for him and took amazing care of him. Despite all of my efforts, he did not make it. I had him for 7 months and the entire time he was sick and fighting for it. He was super sweet and docile and I'm so upset that I won't get to see him grow. NEVER EVER buy your reptiles or amphibians from here. They do not take care of their animals and they WILL die. I have countless friends that have gotten snakes, lizards, and all sorts of rodents from here and they've all had a multitude of problems from the get go and most ended up dead within a couple of months. My beardie died just shy of 1 year old. Don't make the same mistake I did please. read more

Do not ever shop at this awful store. Shop local. Would give zero stars if I would. I bought several items for my father who is disabled on Friday and came in Monday morning to return. They were not able to return over $150 worth of items that didn't fit my fathers dog. They were unaccommodating, unapologetic, offered no solutions and quite frankly rude. The assistant store manager, Joe, and his manager Darnell Anton who I tried to work with should be ashamed of themselves. No one greets you, no one assists you, no friendly customer service and an incredible unreasonable return policy that is not explained to customers at check out. Perhaps if anyone was available or able to provide assistance while I was shopping I would not need to make a return. They were also not able to Answer any questions on dog tags or assist with the machine. Why shop there when you can either shop online or shop locally? read more

The front desk person that handled the drop off for grooming had too much attitude for zero reason, should not be that toxic to customers for no reason. 0/10 for customer experience. Second, let's discuss how they tell you the times that WOULD be adequate for pet grooming, then it ends up as 2+ hours later. Third, their process for pet grooming is absolutely repulsive that they allow our pets to air dry putting them at high risk of bacteria, and fungus growth. Never once have been greeted when walking in the staff is too busy on their phones or talking about what vape juice they want. Every time and any time we have gone here it has just been a awful experience. Who is even managing this staff? Who is training them? They cant answer any questions, they do not even know their own store policy..... To wrap this all up, the haircut has uneven spots, directions for tail and head were not followed and the person with the oversized hoodie on and hair covering their face just flat out needs to work on the attitude, and the blonde female there also. Keep your personal issues to yourself no need to project that onto customers that are keeping you employed. I'd rather pay the toll and make the drive to the Tacoma location to get my things from petco. read more

I had my mom take my dogs in to get their nails trimmed and filed one dog came out with pretty nails while the other came with flat nails white at the tips I can tell 100% that two different people did their nails and I am in no way taking them back here if you wanna work with dogs you should at least know what your doing their appointment was 11am may 15th 2021 read more

Our dog was groomed here today, and we are very happy with the service we got! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the estimation of when our dog would be ready was accurate. We have a lab/shepherd mix who can get nervous around new people, and his groomer was very patient with him. I also thought the price was very reasonable (and cheaper than what we have paid before). Terrible costumer service. Went in at 10:15 (open at 10) and the door was broken. The staff were just looking at me as i tried to get in. 3 costumers were waiting outside with me trying to figure out why the hell we were just getting stared at. I walked through the grooming doors instead and got in and i told a worker the door was broken. She just said "Oh that's weird" and walked away from me and didn't even go check out the door. I wanted to get a few guppy fish to add to my tank and a snail. I waited for 25 min trying to get a workers attention and they all just looked at me and walked away. I finally asked someone for assistance and they said "ya let me go get someone" waited another 10 min and nobody came (they were not busy at all) i got me patience and annoyed so i just walked out. I had an appointment to get my new puppy his vaccination, but when I showed up I was told the vet canceled, like it was no big deal. It is a big deal because of the timing of the shots. No one bothered to tell me about the cancelation. According to their web site they booked an ap apoiment every 7 minutes all day. read more

We had an appointment and took our golden retriever in for grooming. They took his collar off and put on choker collar/liesh. For 30minutes we was tied to a pole with only about 8 inches of slack. When my wife called and asked what was taking so long, they were rude. When my daughters (who were waiting for him) asked what was taking so long, they were rude then too. After checking out we noticed a hemorrhage oar ounce one of his eyes (see photo). This is from partial strangulation. Petco people said it was from "stress". We will never set foot in a pet co again. Their motto is "where pets come first", obviously not the case. read more

When I came to this petco I had high hopes. Unfortunately it let me down, the customer service was terrible. One of the workers walked away from me when I had asked to see one of the ferrets I had really liked and wanted to get possibly. I waited for them to be done with another person and asked again. They told me that there were "to little people" to help me with the ferret. It would have taken 3 min for me to look at the ferret. She had been helping other people for 10 mins. read more

Glad I didn't want to buy fish since the woman didn't even ask if I needed help Update: I've been in here quite a few times now and the people working in the fish area are not helpful at all. Twice now I have gone to this petco and received terrible service from a young boy helping out in the fish department. During my first visit, I was interested in purchasing some ghost shrimp. I went to the back where the fish tanks were, looked for the ghost shrimp labeled tank and took a look at the shrimp in the tank. It was with the cherry shrimp. After looking in the tank for awhile and examining that there were mostly cherry shrimp, I found what I thought was one ghost shrimp. I flagged the associate down. I told him I needed some help in the back with the fish and he came to help. Immediately, I was put off by his unwelcoming posture and attitude. When I told him I wanted a ghost shrimp, he quickly and rudely stated they didn't have any ghost shrimp. I told him I thought I had seen one in the tank where it was labeled. Again, almost talking over me, he restated there were no ghost shrimp and he could gaurentee it. As we got to the tanks he told me they only had amano shrimp that they were about a $3-4 difference. He asked if that was okay. I showed him the shrimp I wanted and again he told me it was an amano shrimp. The price didn't matter to me, so I agreed to take the amano shrimp. While taking the shrimp out of the tank, he inexperiencely fidgeted around with the shrimp in the net, working his fingers around the net, then seemed to either give up or become frustrated, and shook the shrimp out of the net and into the bag. Anyone in the shrimp community know how delicate shrimp are and how especially gentle you should be with shrimp. This was painful to watch. Afterwards he handed me the bag and off I went to pay for it at the front desk. The girl at the front desk was pleasant, however I was disappointed in the disatisfactory service I received from the boy who helped with the fish. He could have easily (with much better customer service skills) have told me, "I'm sorry, I don't think we have any ghost shrimp left. I would be glad to take a look at the shrimp you saw and see what kind it is!" But alas.. We all have bad days right? Perhaps he was having an off-day, and I could understand that. However, I was wrong. I wanted to add more than just one shrimp to my tank, so I came back a few days later for some cherry shrimp. The same young man was there to help. I let him know I would like two cherry shrimp. With the same exact, inexperienced, and painful-to-watch way he put the shrimp into the bag the first time, he had done again. After bagging the shrimp, he handed it to me and I took a look into the bag. I quickly noticed one of the shrimp upside down, on its back, and not moving. I asked if I could possibly have a different shrimp that wasn't almost dead. With the same rude and quick, over-talking done to me the first time, he had done again when he told me he is "SURE" it isn't dead. He continued to "reassuringly" let me know he thought so too after looking into the bag, so he poked it. And then he let me know that after he had poked it, that it fluttered around, so it must be okay. I looked at him kind of shocked, and said I would just like to be sure that when I drive back home, I am not left with a shrimp who dies in a few hours after the stressful delivery from the tank, to the net, to the bag, and then home. I don't recall him being too keen with my response, as he irritatedly let me know that he could switch the shrimp out for a different one. I agreed that I would much rather like that. He took the bag of shrimp back over to the tank, dumped them out and got two different shrimp, in the same fingers-in-net fashion. All while doing this, he made no eye contact or conversation. He was obviously irritated and handled the situation in a very inappropriate and unprofessional manor. After he put the two shrimp in the bag, he loosely tied the bag and put the first bag UPSIDE DOWN into another bag. This caused a problem all the way home, as the first bag was leaking from being too loose and upside down. My shrimp would have had no water left in the bag, had I not held it sideways the entire way home. Overall, I am highly disappointed in the customer service by this employee. If I visit this location again, I will ask for a different person to help. Or more likely, visit a different pet store. read more

I used to take my springer spaniel to Petco all the time. A groomer named Shae was wonderful; my dog loved her. When he saw where he was going, he'd get excited; he'd stand up on his feet to look over the counter with eager enthusiasm. I always got an expensive package and gave generous tips. That was then. The good groomer left. The last few times I've been in, my dog has resisted. Another woman arrived with her dog, who appeared terrified. A groom is supposed to take 2 or 2 1/2 hours; this time it took 5 hours. I called at hour 4 and asked how soon til he'd be done; almost ready, they said. When I got there at hour 5, they were still trying to cut his nails and he was still wet. I don't know what he was doing all that time. It appears to me that some management change has occurred. Not enough groomers, bad vibes. The management should be paying attention to what's going on, as I see from other reports that Petco Gig Harbor is losing its formerly good reputation. read more

We have been going to Petco in gig harbor for many years. We take our St Bernard Bella there, and our little Mixed breed Jazzy there to be groomed. We have also seen the vet there a few times. We buy them home made treats by the pound. I can only say wonderful things about the Gig Harbor Petco, everyone is super nice, patient, kind, and super helpful. Give them a second chance if something went wrong, tell the Manager and they will fix it. If you got a bad haircut on your furbaby let the Manager know, They will make it right in one way or another. will not be returning to this store. we tried to take our pitbull in for some grooming, and they wouldn't finish because my dog was "too resistant" and thay she needed to be taken somewhere else to be muzzled. we tried to recommend to the groomer to leave her on the floor because she does better than up on the table, which they've done every single time. but the groomer said they "weren't allowed to". my dog was in no way aggressive and if anything, she was drooling all over the place because she has anxiety. if your staff cannot handle certain breeds, then they really shouldn't be working in grooming. it's very disappointing because this has always been our go-to pet store, but I will not giving them any more of my business. read more

We have been bringing our dog for grooming for years but management has really brought customer service down. We even returned after they injured her and forked her tongue because of the relationship we had with the team. But a few months ago they turned her away for her seizure disorder which has been stable for years and said to bring a doctors note. We rescheduled and got a note from the vet recommending grooming as part of her health and that it was in fact beneficial. Showed up after waiting 2 months for this new appointment, showed the vet note and again got turned away because of new "confidential" policies that the manager couldn't share. She said "Corporate had been very strict." Why did the appointment get booked in the first place? They also asked if we could come in earlier that day since there was a cancellation and I moved my Thanksgiving plans with family around. Why would a groomer override a veterinarian's recommendations? Why would they wait to tell me that they couldn't groom her until check-in? Why can't they show the actual policy? I'm giving 3 stars overall for this Petco only because the 2 trainers are great, customer service for the products etc. have been very helpful. Now allow me too talk about grooming...Mary is the best--friendly, very reliable, and has done a great job when she trims our 14 year-old poodle with love and understanding, and has much patience with our puppy. It's a different story regarding the other groomers. What they need is a class in "customer service 101". I UNDERSTAND that there are rules regarding vaccinations--it involves safety for all! It's how they came across to us when they informed us of the rules. (1 exception--one woman was very nice) When dealing with the public, one should smile and make the guest feel like they might want to return. Or, "I'm sorry this inconveniences you, but that is our policy. We'll be happy to groom your beloved pet after...." etc. You're not just bathing and clipping dogs, you also have to interact with the dogs' PEOPLE! read more

I agree with Carolyn. Gig Harbor Petco used to be great but no more. Count on making lots of trips to get treats. Don't take you dogs into the vet on Sunday. She is so rude and horrible. Keeps her back to you the whole time,if she even takes the time. Bad information for sure. The vet on Wednesday is nice. Dr Graff. I maybe spelling that wrong. She is respectful to you and your pet. I have 5 Akitas including 3 seven month old puppies. The manager doesn't know what he is doing. So sad! The old vet Dr Adrian was absolutely great. Talk about all about the money. I don't shop here because I would rather support local businesses, and it's too overpriced for what you're getting, however, this is a review of the grooming department. I will never go anywhere else to groom my dog after my experience here. You can tell that all of the employees here are really passionate about animals & want you to feel comfortable leaving your pet there. My schnauzer is groomed by Glynda because she takes awesome care of him. I'm very particular of how he's groomed, and she pays special attention to this, remembering what I like each time I come in without me having to remind her. Once you bring you bring your dog here to be groomed, you won't want to take them anywhere else! read more

I am officially a fan after 3 visits to the grooming salon! Every time my dog Tobi looked great, he was happy and the girls took really good care of him. In the past --at other groomers here in Gig Harbor/Tacoma area -- my husband and I have been charged "extra" because the groomers have had a tough time bathing Tobi - he is terrified of hose/sprayers/sprinklers - which can make bathing him challenging. But at this Petco I have walked in each time nervous that Tobi "blew it this time", asking them each visit if he was OK with them and every time they swore up and down they had no problems at all with him which really goes to show me that it comes down to skilled bathers and groomers. His latest groomer was Mary and she did a wonderful job, she kept him perfectly calm and he looked amazing! The girl at the desk who checked him out for me - I think her name was Kendall (sorry I forget) - she was very nice and was assisting an older gentleman ahead of me answering all of his questions and providing him with useful tips for his kitty and made him feel really welcome as a new customer, she did a great job. read more

They ruined my dog! Ok, so this experience started off good and then went bad! We were able to bring in our Australian shepherd on short notice for a bath and groom. When we dropped him off, we told her that we wanted the hocks cleaned up and the tail shaped. She even warned about cutting the hair too short as it may not grow back. When we came in to pick him up they made us pay before we could see him. They ask for a tip, which we gave also before we could see him. When they brought him out imagine our surprise when they took clippers to the entire dog. He looks nothing like an Australian Shepherd. Even worse, they used clippers and he is so choppy. None of his hair is the same length. I am sick every time I look at him. He was so beautiful before, we just wanted a bath and trim and instead, they ruined our dogs beautiful coat. To top it off, we paid them $65 and a $5 dollar tip to do it!!! I am so furious that I couldn't even speak with them as I did not want to lose my cool in the store. The worst part is that they had an Australian Shepherd on the grooming table when we brought him in and that one looked beautiful. He hadn't been shaved. This is the worst experience I have ever had when it comes to grooming my dog. read more

Grooming - our dog was treated with kindness, respect, and came home happy! I'm a fan! I would rather have respectful treatment to a 'perfect cut', but they did the trim to perfection. Store - I am NOT a fan - prefer to shop elsewhere, but I go less and less as the numbers of 'product pushers' and chatters seems to increase. I buy an occaisional toy here, but go less and less due to the pesky staff that likes to chat or query our purposes. read more

I take my dog to get his nails trimmed and it SOOO much nicer than having to go to the vet, I just take him in there when I have time and they can usually get him right in. read more

While the cashiers are friendly and always willing to help, their products/food always appear to be broken or dead. First time, things happen, but today was my third time returning a broken item. While the return is painless, even without a receipt, I hate wasting my time! I'll be shopping elsewhere. read more
