If we're going to be honest, which we are on Yelp, the food was a little bit of a let-down. The prosciutto, cheddar panini is not as salty and balanced as you'd expect. It was definitely overpowered by the fig jam. And the pickled vegetables... hmm... wouldn't order again. But... the 4 stars are well-deserved for the absolutely lovely atmosphere and delicious nitro cold brew I had. This is a nice place to get some work done or to meet for a coffee date. Would return. Would recommend. But don't recommend the $11 food. read more

Fantastic cold brew in a cool cafe atmosphere. My wife and I came here on a Tuesday morning and were planning to sit inside and relax. However, the space was full with all manner of people working or just hanging out - which is a great for the owners, but not too convenient for me. This place was hopping! And no wonder: the coffee was good, the tea was good, the food was good, and it's in a lovely sunny white space. It's all very third-wave coffee. :) I went there to work for a bit, and though it was busy, there was room to sit with a laptop, and wifi. The music, however, changed from understated when I first sat down to loud Rihhana dance club after I had been there about 15 minutes. This was at 9 in the morning! It seemed inappropriate for the hour, and very uncoffeeshop. I'm not sure if this was just bad choices from the staff working that day or the regular vibe, but I'll give it another chance because it's such a pleasant space with great drinks and food. read more

I stopped into Green Engine a few days ago when I didn't want to go home but did want a place to crank out some work. I really liked it. I got a cold brew which was excellent. Smooth and flavorful just like it should be. The wifi worked great (there were two wifi networks with the Green Engine name, I think it was the one named "Green Engine Verizon" or something like that that was best). The ambiance was nice. The server was pleasant. I sat at a cool natural wood table across from a very zen wooden wall hanging. If I had to lodge one complaint it would be that the ratio of table height to chair height was just a bit off making typing slightly awkward. But, when that's the complaint, it's a pretty solid place. EDIT: I was originally editing to fix a typo, but it occurred to me to add that the beautiful people who designed this place put electrical outlets next to each table, which is a definite plus. read more

Green Engine is delightful, the kind of coffee shop I find in a little town when I'm on vacation and wish we had locally. Great staff, and ithas the best avocado toast I've ever had. It's pricey at $10 ($12 if you add an egg), but it's expensive everywhere. The coffee is typical of good coffee places. read more

Poor customer service. We were the only ones there at the time. When I asked for light ice for my iced chai latte he said it was going to be made the way it is. How hard is it for them to put less ice in a drink To me that's saying I don't care what you want as a customer. Not even going to try. Pretty sad since during this covid 19 time I would think all food establishments need the business. I got my chai latte hot and it was ok. I just moved back to the area to find that my fav coffee shop/study space (Milkboy Ardmore) has closed! But I just found this place right down Lancaster Ave and I really like it! It has a nice atmosphere, subtle but enjoyable music, an awesome green wall, great windows with lots of light, and, as far as I can tell, a reasonable number of electrical outlets to keep your devices alive. It was pretty crowded when I arrived around 12:30pm, but the crowd has died down throughout the afternoon and it's quiet now. My hot chocolate was a very reasonable price and a good size (alas, I didn't take a pic), and it was v good! I think I've found a new study spot! Woo! read more

Green Engine was very impressive. Came in to work on summer reading and enjoyed what is probably the best cold brew I have ever had. Beyond the excellent drink, the environment was so pleasant. The baristas/counter people were all smiles, quick, and efficient. It was clear that this place attracts many regulars and I observed the baristas referring to a few different customers by their first names. Beyond that, the seating is particularly comfortable for a coffee shop (esp. compared to its local competition La Columbe....) & the interior is beautiful! read more

The coffee is very good and the environment is nice to do work or meet a friend for coffee. The food is good for a light lunch or afternoon coffee with sweets. Price is slightly high but the quality is worth it. tried the Mediterranean tuna panini and it was ok, but we really enjoyed the coffee and the croissant. I would go back anytime. read more

Excellent cold brew! Atmosphere is relaxing, comfortable. Love the green wall. Lots of people working on laptops, the wifi is not super strong tho. Parking was a little tricky, but free down the street. Ordered salmon gravlax toast, however they later came to tell me their salmon wasn't up to snuff, so I switched to avocado toast with a hardboiled egg - very satisfied with the food and their desire to deliver quality and with honesty. read more

I've been here a couple of times. I enjoy working on my laptop here as well as getting a coffee to go. The hot chocolate in the winter kills it and I had decaf cold brew today which was very good. I would say the only thing I wished they had were maybe more food options that were snack size and/or without bread or carbs. Overall great place. read more

I slowly kick my sneaks through the front door and I'm possessed by an environment that feels spacious and connected with nature. It feels like a cafe that could be place inside The Secret Garden movie. Green Engine sells unique coffee infused to-go packets, not to mention gelato from a small gelato food cart inside! Their rooibos tea is strong, the coffee is up to par, and they have amazing English muffins and avocado toast! Can't go wrong here! They also sell quality memorabilia for gifts and the like. As far as parking it's not bad but has a learning curve. Sometimes one can park at a station close by (wink, wink) and street parking is directly out front so it's easy to monitor. I wish they would fix the outlets by the windows though. It would be nice to work on a laptop and look outside. Baristas are quality but lack a little fire but who wants fire in a garden? We went here on a hot day to have some gelato, since this is listed on the online menu. When we asked what flavors they had, the server said they'd not had gelato for some time, but they'd not changed the menu. This is bad form and indifferent service. For folks who are interested, there's a Baskin and Robbins combined with a Dunkin' Donuts at 12 Greenfield Avenue in Ardmore. Amazing food. Love the food. No where to sit because they let people come in and order one coffee and then stay on their laptops working using the wifi for hours. Ate 77$ worth of food with my family standing up at a small table while people sat at bigger tables with no food and their laptops. One guy...no joke came in with a glass container of food and ate his own food and ordered a tea. So....unfortunately will have to visit less because it's super hard eating lunch with my family here. Great great food. So if you want a pastry with your coffee while using their free wifi order one they are amazing and you'll be doing their business a favor. read more

This is my favorite local coffee shop in the area, by far. The vibes are awesome, employees are incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and talkative, and they have free WiFi. Beyond the awesome coffee they have, I have also had the grilled PB&J, which was a great value and absolutely delicious! The coffee is good and the food is decent, but the guy at the counter with the red hair is extremely rude and over charged me for my drink. My 4 year old son was with me today and actually asked me why he was mean to me, that's pretty bad. My family and I just moved to Drexel Hill from Pittsburgh and we would drive to Green Engine because we liked it, but we won't be returning after being mistreated by this guy one too many times. This is probably one of the cutest coffee shops on the mainline, but unfortunately the staff and food are not up to par. The first time I went I figured maybe the guy helping me was having a bad day, but the second time I went a woman treated me the same way. When I asked questions they acted as if they were doing me a huge favor by explaining certain things and were annoyed with my questions. They were very standoffish. I ordered a chai latte and I tasted like just skim milk with barely any chai. However the blueberry muffin was very tasty! I would try again but the workers make me feel uncomfortable. read more

We discovered a warm, hospitable environment that exceeds any known coffee venue in this sector and elsewhere. The thick, foamy head on my decaf soy latte made the 20 light year journey worth it. Sadly, we lost Jenkins when he drank four double espressos on a foolish dare from Spock. Dr. "Bones" McCoy was unable to save him, stating "damnit Jim I'm a doctor, not a barista!" Beautiful, light, and bright space! I love working remotely from here. If you are working on something super important or studying, just keep in mind that this place doesn't always provide the most quiet of environments to stay focused. It gets pretty packed during peak hours, and you may have to wait a bit for a proper seat and table to set up to begin work. Otherwise, if you are just doing something mindless on your laptop or iPad, you're golden here! The menu is somewhat limited, but everything they serve is wonderful! I'm a big fan of their regular cappuccino and iced coffees on the go. You won't be disappointed in their pastries either! A coffee house first and foremost, Green Engine Coffee Co delivers a superior product in a nice, homey space that separates itself from its competitors. So how good is Green Engine Coffee Co? Perhaps some context is needed - I hate coffee. Despise it in fact. It's too bitter, so overrated, and the coffee culture is generally annoying. But I have a soft spot in my heart for small independent businesses, so I decided to stop by and give it a try. Like the TARDIS, the place is deceivingly bigger on the inside, which is further highlighted by the bright open interior, with a few chairs and tables. I was warmly greeted by my friendly plaid-wearing barista, who was more than willing to answer any questions and informed me they just opened last week. The menu is modest and very drink oriented, serving Hot (Espresso, Coffee, Hand Pour, Macchiato, Lattes, etc.) and Cold selections (Cold Brew, Affogato). There's not a lot of food available, mostly pastries and bagels, and I hope that the food options expand as this business grows. They seem very oriented on the science of coffee (the sign says "History, Chemistry & Epiphany"). Be sure to check out the Cold Water Coffee dripper (see my pic) and some of the other cool coffee apparatuses behind the counter. I ordered the Mocha Latte ($4 for small), which from the flavors (espresso, milk, chocolate) would be acceptable to a non-coffee drinker. I can honestly say, I really enjoyed my drink. The coffee/espresso flavor was there, yes, but it was perfectly complemented by the milk and chocolate taste. No one was more surprised than I was that I enjoyed it - they won me over. They also have some delicious sounding food options - Yogurt and Granola ($4.50), Bagels with spread ($1.10 & $0.60) and a selection of Paninis ($9.50) including Beet & Goat Cheese, Mushroom & Gouda, and Brie & Apple. Overall, Green Engine Coffee Co offers something different from the usual coffee house. Their wheelhouse is coffee, and I appreciate their singular focus on this while they continue to build and grow. They are a step up from Starbucks or nearby Saxbys, and with their recently added food options, this place has the potential to become "the" coffee place in Haverford. And I'll be back for that Spanish Hot Chocolate and Brie & Apple Panini. read more

In short: good, not great. This place is very popular with the young, college-age crowd; around lunchtime, it was packed. My coffee was well made and came out quickly. My sandwich (I got the "conductor," prosciutto and figs) was good, though the bread almost overpowered the other flavors (sourdough is great, but can be strong). My only real complaint is the price. For what you get, it's a little expensive, especially with a minimum recommended tip of 20% at a cafe with no table service. If you really like the trendy atmosphere and the young crowd though, I think the price might be worth it. read more

A new local favorite, this café is a breath of fresh air amongst the typical suburban coffee chains. It's spacious and the decor is tasteful and urban-chic. Best of all, they serve rival bros coffee! Their lattes are creamy and delicious, and they don't charge extra for soy milk. I also love their mugs! The baristas are wonderful and keep the place running smoothly despite rush periods. I do wish they were open later as the late night study options are quite slim in the area. The wifi can be spotty, especially if the cafe is packed. Hopefully this can be a quick fix. Also I was not impressed with the panini with beets and greens and would recommend sticking with their bagels and baked goods. It definitely does not compare to the High Street on Market food that is served at Rival Bros Cafe in center city, but overall the café is a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

Glad I found this little gem right off Lancaster Ave. in Haverford. I am always looking for good coffee that is not grown with pesticides or decaffeinated with chemicals. This is water process decaf and they are very particular about their coffee bean sources (just ask). Organic milk and cream is standard from local Trickling Spring Farms!! Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. They clearly love their coffee here. I shall return! read more

I'm not much of a coffee drinker and most of the time I don't like coffee at all. But, once in a blue moon I find a place that can make a cup of coffee I like enough to write about. So far I have stopped on twice and got different kinds of coffees. Both with a bold flavor and I personally think does not need any cream or sugar. This coffee shop makes me want to try everything and slowly I will make my way down the coffee menu until I have tired it all. The service is good and exactly what you want and expect from a local coffee shop. In short Friendly and fast. The seating is comfy with a relaxed feel within the shop. The music is not loud and from what I have experienced just simple background indie. All in all I gave the Green Engine Cafe 5 stars and worth a stop if you have the time. read more
