If you are looking for the best biscuits and sausage gravy, this place is it. They have a breakfast meal, the country Benedict, it's sausage patty on a biscuit, smothered in sausage gravy and two eggs. It is delicious! I also got some of their corned beef lunch meat, it was good too. Service each time has been quick and friendly. Coffee cup stayed full. They have bar seats in the middle of the dining room and tables/booths around it. It seems like a good clean place. I will return. read more

I usually don't leave bad reviews but this is a different case. Please note I have never been here before. I wanted to grab a to-go order (in which I ordered two omelets & a breakfast sandwich). I came in with high expectations, left with dissatisfaction. They don't mention over the phone they were cash only. I never carry cash on me so when I got to the restaurant, I asked if I could pay with Apple Pay and they said it's cash only. I mentioned I didn't have cash and they said it's on their door. I said I have never been here before and I couldn't have known! So they said they have an ATM. At that point I didn't want to spend fees on taking out cash from their ATM. Not only is their food overpriced, but I left feeling distraught, as their staff (which I understand are busy) were also very rude. You can't just assume everybody is a "regular" especially with pick-up orders. It's a great location, but I wouldn't be back here if that's how they normally treat their customers and operate their business. read more

I stopped at Green Owl and after a very short wait, was brought to a table and provided a menu. A few minutes later, a waitress took my order. Less than ten minutes later a plate with two fried eggs, two sausage patties and toast. As ordered and a tasty meal, it's clear that they want to turn over tables here. While you're not rushed, you're also not encouraged to dawdle. Which is fine and they're not pushy about it. This was an inexpensive breakfast on a Saturday morning. Just remember to have the cash. Single diner, before 8am on a Saturday. Occupied, not busy. I know my order before I sit down. When greeted at the table, I'm asked and answered, well extra well done hashbrowns, I want crisps. Bagel, well toasted with sliced tomato and cream cheese. Coffee... simple order. When only 2/3rds comes out correct, i set the offending hashbrowns aside. Coffee is 3/4 empty... has. browns are tan and cold... "oh, you wanted them well done?" Before you paint me as the bad apple... the ticket said well done... she brought it to the table, far less than well done... kitchen didn't follow the ticket, server didn't check the ticket that she wrote. when I point it out... im less than desirable as a customer. Could I have handled it better? Probably. I question why though, when the ticket is clearly written, there is no fault found by anyone at the restaurant. read more

Love a good, local breakfast spot! Finally made it here after preparing myself with cash (this is a cash only business) and came here after walking the beach on a Saturday morning. We were seated right away, but dont be fooled, this place was busy! The staff was super friendly and very efficient. She answered all our questions and took our order timely. The menu is quite extensive and offers plenty of different breakfast combos for everyone at the table. You really can't go wrong! The pancakes were delish and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Portions were just right and I definitely left completely full. We sat outside, but they do have quite a few tables inside as well. Such a cute, friendly neighborhood spot. I hadn't been here in a very long time. I went here for breakfast with out of town guests. I ordered a soft boiled egg and tomato with coffee. It also comes with whole wheat bread. don't forget cash only! I guess because I don't love breakfast that it is always a bit difficult to make me thrilled. But it was a beautiful morning and we were in the shade! I loved their little signs in the place so that was nice. Other people at the table ordered pancakes and eggs. I stopped in to eat breakfast one Saturday morning during a shopping trip in Delray Beach. The Green Owl first was first opened in 1981 on Atlantic Ave by Jim Nowlins, who purchased a restaurant named Natural Eats for his wife Flo. They renamed it Green Owl because the word owl was part of their last name and green because the couple was they were Irish. After running the business as a restaurant for two years it became too much for Flo and they changed it into a coffee shop. In 1983 the restaurant was purchased by Carol Savage who sold it in 1990 to Peter and Sam Warren so she could retire and travel. The Warren's kept everything the same and Carol's son David Gensman was able to purchase it back five years later and he still operates it to this day. Upon opening the Green Owl soon became known as one of the most affordable lunches in downtown Delray. In 2014 the building they were renting was sold and the high rent forced them out to a smaller space across the street that no longer faces Atlantic Ave. The new restaurant opened in May of 2017. The old location of the Green Owl is now the Capital One Cafe. The Green Owl is a diner style restaurant beloved by locals for serving up affordable meals in the pricey downtown area. They serve breakfast and lunch 7 days a week but you need to remember it is cash only. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. I sat at the counter and enjoyed a great breakfast and friendly service. I ordered the French toast with a side of bacon and home fries. Everything was absolutely delicious. After you eat you are close enough to stroll beautiful Atlantic Avenue. I am so glad I finally got to try this Delray landmark. This 1-star is strictly based on a member of the staff. Having been in the food industry and in management what I witnessed and heard was completely unacceptable. A greeter/ busboy or girl, when I asked # how long of a wait there was # replied in a frustrated tone making it sound like it was an inconvenience to answer, we are extremely busy and it would be more than 15 minutes when actually it only was 5 minutes. Then I observed # wiping off tables when the customers weren't even completely done obviously rushing them, I heard the customer even make a slight comment about it. Lastly: I overheard # telling another table of customers that they shouldn't allow people like that to eat here, referring to a family next table over from them, that had left a mess on the floor that he had to clean up. Someone needs to have a talk with # regarding customer service and saying things about other people out loud, it did appear that # was frazzled or annoyed. I agree with many of the reviews on Yelp about how Green Owl is a no-nonsense breakfast joynt serving Basic Breakfast 101 deliciously well. The spinach feta and tomato omelette was just plain awesome (perfectly done and folded well), so was the corned beef hash (nice and thin and crispy), the bacon (meaty and nicely cooked), the sausage (flat and round), the blueberry pancakes (fluffy and fresh tasting), the fruit bowl and the coffee, too. A small dinner place. They only take cash so always make sure to have cash or they have an atm where you can take money out. The sandwiches are amazing!! One of my favorites is the Bahama melt with a side of 1000 island dressing. I wish they had more choices for sides since I am not a huge fan of what they currently offer so I usually do not eat the side anyway. I have also tried their tuna melt (TO DIE FOR).
