I've never been here despite being in Auburn all the time. Last Saturday my husband & I were running an errand in Auburn and decided to stop for a quick dinner. We knew it would be nothing fancy but we were not looking for that. We both ordered grilled buffalo chicken sandwich and shared fries. The grilled chicken was very good and the sauce was tasty and not too spicy. The fries were the shoestring type and plentiful. The cost for 2 was reasonably priced. We opted not to get ice cream because I wanted to go to bailiwick's on the way home. The seating outside was nice and we could see the little league baseball game going on next to us. I went Wednesday evening with my son, I ordered a Hamberg and a chicken sandwich. After 15 Min. the girl gave the food to the wrong people. I went up the counter, she said I'll make you another order, 2 min. later she came out with the order. Looked just like the ones she took away from the other people. Sad I needed to give the single star... location, great! Perfect spot for a burger type summer Saturday dinner and perhaps a little ice cream... how ever... we my friend and I are in our late 60's so have been around the block... so I'll be brief. Initially we were ignored by all employees, waited way too long to order as they seemed to all be engaged mostly talking to one another... food: once we got it, was horrible... French fries were cold and soggy. Burger was kinda messy, the lettuce was wilted from being under a heat lamp way too long. chicken sando likewise and everything seemed out of the box (Sysco reheat house) no condiments, no napkins or service ware.. when ketchup was sought a few "packet" were offered. The staff seemed to be preoccupied with each other with no one knowing what even bad service was... tried for an ice cream... ordered a cup and a small cone... dismissed to the "other window" upon paying where a unidentified cup was sitting with no apparent service ware available. I asked for a spoon and the counter creature barked there were sooon right in "front of you". There was a container above eye level with I guess had a few spoons at the bottom but since I had forgotten my x-ray goggles, I was unable to see the two spoons... then watching a young ice cream ... ahh tech, I suppose, struggle with the soft serve machine, but she did have a roughly 1 foot high cone and soft serve combo and she was trying to secure some help with this endeavor, I asked if that would be my small twist? At which time the excited gaggle of gathered counter kids all chortled "yes... that's our small!!!" OMG what a waste of marketing effort... no one over 15 needs that much ice cream... and it was a small... I refused it and asked for a reasonable sized portion to which they, the aforementioned gaggle said you want our kiddie portion... I agreed to that size but this could have been avoided if the had some sort of size posted. Over all it was a horrible customer service experience... management has zero clue what or how a fast dining experience should be. As a side note they recently upgraded the pos and need help adapting to the system. But none of our issues were related to that... it was a series of lost opportunities to show that anyone cared about what or how they should treat a guest along with old poorly packaged food that sat way to long. Incidentally there is zero reasons to have BAD French Fries with all the superior products available I will not be back! read more

Beautiful day sitting outside Green Shutters listening to a wonderful live band! The outside has benches and picnic tables and lots of trees and shade. Not a large menu, but it has all the basics, hamburger , cheeseburger, hot dog, chicken sandwich, tenders, salads and 3 sides.... fries, onion rings and fried mozzarella. They had two specials.... sausage peppers and onions and philly cheese steak. We ordered inside and they brought it outside to our tables. Everyone enjoyed their choices. My hamburger was fresh and cooked well....lettuce, tomato and pickles finished the perfect flavor profile. The fries were thin, hot and crispy. The onion rings were a standout, with a beautiful crunch maybe from cornmeal in the batter. They have several sauces for dipping. The ice cream treats were prepared beautifully and were delicious. My root beer float hit the spot, milkshakes were creamy and rich, the sundaes were packed full. Service was amazing. Everyone was smiling and friendly and helpful. Everyone, including the owner Seb, worked so hard to make sure we were happy with the food and everything else. Just a note....their credit card machine does not have a place to leave a tip(I was surprised) but I left them cash as they worked so hard and deserved it. . read more

I had the immense pleasure of dining at Seb's a few days ago. I found this amazing restaurant on the Find me Gluten Free app and I am SO happy I went! The staff is as wonderful as the food! I was given a new found hope in a young generation of workers, each one with a smile on their face and happy to answer any questions and go the extra mile. Seb, the proud (and rightfully so) owner, was so incredibly thoughtful. he brought me on a tour of the kitchen to show me the fantastic celiac safe practices of zero cross contamination and the amazing rolls shipped in from a bakery in California. I literally had to ask to make sure I got the GF bun it was so darn good! The chicken used is only fresh chicken breast and it has been expertly butchered to have zero fat or gristle. it makes a huge difference! the batter is light and crispy and does not make you feel weighed down. clearly the oil for the dedicated fryers must be changed daily because you tasted the fresh food ingredients, not any grease! I loved being able to get a fresh green salad to accompany my fried goodies I had -balance! ;-) several seltzer flavor options was a great addition to their bottled drink selection so I could go guilt free but flavorful with my drink too...THANK YOU SO MUCH! 1st time at Seb's Green Shutters and it was a very pleasant experience other than they have a bunch of young people running the business that mess up your order and have an attitude when politely asked to get the right order. I ordered the buffalo tenders and they gave me one of the buffalo sandwiches, which I would've kept but it had blue cheese on it and I don't like blue cheese. In addition to messing up with my tender order, they gave me a shake that didn't taste anything like the shake I ordered and replaced. Mind you when asked to replace the burger with tenders the employee checked for price difference and had the intention to charge me for any difference when it was THEIR mistake. Only giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the one of the girls were apologetic. Food wise, tenders were 4 outta 5 stars but the portion could've bigger. My friend got the burger and it was okay. Food doesn't come with sides, drinks are a little pricey, overall not the place to go if you're not trying to spend $50+ for 4 people and get kiddie portions. read more

I LOVE the new Green Shutters! Today was my third visit since the new owners took over, and the food was as fresh and tasty as when I first tried it two months ago. This is "healthy-ish" food -- fresh ingredients, cooked from scratch, with a few nice entree salads on the menu to round out the burgers and fried chicken. Onion rings and fried chicken sandwich were good and crispy, and lighter than I've had at other places. And bonus : everything on the menu can be made gluten free, with no cross contamination! This was music to my celiac ears. Even my fully gluten-loving friends enjoyed their meals here. And kudos that the new owners were able to get this historic property up and running this so well during a pandemic...We'll be back! read more

The back area is beautiful, but that's about all that really stands out. It is extremely loud and echoey inside and makes me get quickly overwhelmed, but maybe that's just my bad luck of eating at the same time as a group of young children both times I've eaten inside. The food is okay, nothing to be too excited about, just your average hamburger hotdog chicken tender food. There aren't that many flavors of ice cream, but their smoothies/milkshakes are very good. Love the new Sebs Green Shutters! The food is delicious and customer service can't be beat. I have a daughter with nut allergies and she is never able to order hard ice cream because of the risk of cross contamination, I'm so impressed that Seb's keeps their nut flavors separate. Manager needs to make some SERIOUS changes in staff/training, and be far more directly involved in customer service. This place has changed hands a few times over the past few years, so when it reopened we were hopeful for some improvements from the prior owner. We've been three times since the new owners took over. Service is ... horrible. The wait staff seems to consist of mostly very young teenagers, who are untrained as proper waitstaff. There appears to be little to no communication among waitstaff, kitchen, and food runners. All three times we have been its been very, very, slow - even when there are few customers. All three times food orders have been forgotten. One time we waited for an HOUR after ordering before our waitress informed us that the kitchen never made our food. She comped us 1/2 the meal, which was fair, but things have not improved. On our last visit one meal was forgotten, one meal was partially forgotten. So one person has to sit there not eating while the rest of us finished our food. We even had to hunt down the waitress to pay our bill, and when we could not find her after 15 minutes I paid at the ice cream window, complained about the service and left. At no point in any of these experiences did a manager come to apologize, or even to check on any tables. In fact I've witnessed several people get up and leave after waiting too long. The food at Green Shutters is hit or miss. The garlic fries were dry, bland and boring. The cheese fries were gross, no idea what that "cheese" is but its not good. The burger was decent, but should come with at least chips or something. The fish dinners are OK, best thing on the menu so far. Salads are OK but way too small for the price. Everything is a-la-carte so a just hot dog and fries will run you $8-9 or more which is pretty steep - it better be special. And it's just not. Especially considering the helter-skelter waitstaff. Ice cream service is OK, not a whole lot of flavors but it's good. However the 4 times I've been for ice cream, a "small" has varied from quite large to barely a "kiddie" size scoop. Different staff, different size. And they have no "kiddie" size on the menu, which is silly - everyone has "kiddie" size. We will try again, but for now we go to Tom Thumb down the road. I know this is just a "old school road-side diner" kind of place. And the new owners appear to have a vision for it, which is great. But I have also seen it run very well, when the owner and his son would visit each table, when the waitstaff was on point, and when the food was really good "homestyle" food, and a good value. So far I don't see any of that real care and interaction with the customers at the new Green Shutters. read more

Don't expect to cool off with Ice Cream this summer as so many locals and travelers have done for years. Three times recently the walk up window has been closed - during the day. Tonight we tried again at 9:00. The entire restaurant was closed 9! It's summer. Its too bad given the location and and theater nearby. First, try and find any onion; maybe a sliver in a couple but seriously all batter and way too salty for my blood pressure. Stick with Oreida from the grocer. I've lived in Auburn for about 6 years and wish I could say that Green Shutters was worth visiting. The location is great, right by Emerson Park, and that's about the only reason anyone should ever go here. Where should I begin... The service is consistently terrible. Wait staff are local high schoolers and seemingly hired based on beauty rather than brains. The simplest requests take forever. Need more water? Be ready to ask twice and wait 5-10 minutes. Many at my company have tried to go here for lunch on our 1 hr break. Not one has made it back in time. Go to the ice cream window and order anything other than soft serve with no topping? 5 minutes minimum. Ice cream selection is well below average for this region. Very limited selection and again, crappy service. I once asked if my milkshake could be made with skim milk and they looked at me like I had 2 heads before informing me that they only had one kind of milk in the entire restaurant (no word on what kind of milk that was). Today I noticed, in full view of the public, a very snippy and unprofessional note ("this is everyone's final warning!") taped to an ice cream machine because apparently someone put the wrong mix in. It's no surprise that a restaurant managed by passive aggressive note-writers has such terrible service. I've often been willing to put up with crappy service when the food is good. However, Green Shutters also disappoints here. Expect very average burgers, fries, sandwiches, etc. This is all stuff that you could make at home with minimal skill, cost, and effort. Which would be fine if it was cheap and fast. No dice. For some reason, old people love this place, though. Drive 10 minutes into Auburn and eat at a real restaurant. Stopped in after kayaking the Owasco Flats to get ice cream but decided to eat. Start off by washing hands, no soap in men's room, staff indifferent when told so I used the woman's room. Sat at a dirty table for 5 minutes b4 someone cleans it. Ordered kids chicken tenders with onion rings, one fish dinner with coleslaw and a hamburger with mac salad. After 15 minutes we were told they are out of coleslaw, we substituted potatoe salad. Another 5 minutes, waitress tells us they are redoing the fish (new cook). After 25 minutes we get our food. Fries instead of onion rings (I'm so sorry), no tartar sauce with fish (oh sorry). Hamburger comes plain, asked where the lettuce, onions and tomatoes are (oh sorry) then they bring me two tomatoe slices off the ends of a very small tomatoe. .We sit another 2-3 minutes waiting for silverware (I'm so sorry). I try the potatoe salad and immediately spit it into a napkin, obviously spoiled. Ask for another mac salad (oh I'm sorry). Had to secure or own ketchup from another table, when she brings it to us (oh sorry for the wait, I see you found it yourself). As we eat we watch staff scoop ice cream (we were going to have ice cream for our desert). Staff are not using gloves,. One girl repeatedly leaves the scoop in the container (after handling it with no gloves) to bring the cones to the customer first, then she comes back and removes the scoop from the container and puts it in the hot water bath. Cleanliness is not on this place's radar, nor is speed or food quality. They use young inexperienced staff and don't have enough of them. The countertops were cleared but never wiped as three people came and left. The couple to our right had a sandwhich and the cook used the heal of the bread. Very disturbing to see how they serve ice cream - and a lot of customers are there just for that treat. We counted how many times our server told us or others "I'm sorry"- 13 times. I was torn between two, three or four stars. Seems like a wide range doesn't it? Let me explain. Great shakes, decent to good food and a nice outdoor setting weather permitting. Inside is a little tight for my taste, but the counter is also available and can be a fun change. It also has a huge nostalgia value for me having grown up in town but moved away long ago. It's a great location right at the outlet of Owasco Lake near Emerson Park. I appreciate the reviewers suggestion to drive 10 minutes into Auburn for something more consistent, but there really is no place like Green Shutters in Auburn. When it's good, it can be really good. Nothing like good burger and beer under an umbrella hanging with family or friends on a summer day. But service can spotty and the kitchen slow. That is a tough mix because I don't mind waiting if you keep my drink filled and let me know what's going on. We've gone every summer at least once the last three or four years. Unfortunately it's gone down hill every year. So while I have had great experiences there, not consistently. I think the range of reviews from 1 to 5 stars is very telling - be forewarned it might be a long unmemorable meal. read more

All new, completely redesigned and remodeled. Great new floor plan and is now how it always should have been. All new menu and cooks etc.. All new start to finish. The food and service was outstanding. We had the Maui Ribs and beet salad. New owners from California who relocated to the Fingerlakes. They have serious restaurant experience and know how to make a great new restaurant out of an old defunct on. They always had the charming inviting atmosphere and location now they have the rest. We went there for lunch today after our baseball game at the Little League field. The salads were small and the service extremely slow: it took close to an hour before we got our lunch, which is hard when you have theee kids with you. It cost $70 for two hamburgers, two baskets of fries that weren't crisp (even though I asked for one to share) one cheeseburger, and two small chicken salads. Each of us got a soft drink and two of our party members got refills. Never again! read more

Hot Roast Beef sandwich was excellent, real pot roast with onion & gravy. The fries were OK but could have been cooked a little longer. The Chicken Curry sandwich was good but not very large (half portion) would have expected more for $7.95 the mac salad was not good nothing in it. Haven't been here in a while. Always sucked but it was a nice day and thought the outdoor seating would be a nice change. Unfortunately, it still sucked. Worst Haven't burger I ever had. Ordered the Heart Attack Burger MEDIUM RARE and it came MORE THAN WELL DONE and completely dried out. The beef itself was flavorless, the blue cheese on it was dry, cheap and little blue cheese flavor... more like feta. The Swiss cheese had absolutely no flavor. .. even after picking a piece off and tasting it by itself. The craziest part... THE BACON HAD NO FLAVOR. ZERO. AND IT WAS THICK CUT. HOW DOES BACON HAVE NO FLAVOR. CHEAP, CHEAP INGREDIENTS. Oh... the tomato on the burger looked several days old. The waitress was great... very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I went here for an ice cream before heading over to the Merry Go Round for a production. The location is great but I wasn't impressed with much else. The ice cream was fine but prices seemed a bit high for what we got and quality served. I'm not sure if there were new owners or not but this is not like the place the last time I went. We waited outside at the ice cream counter for much longer than we should have since there were only one other couple in front of us. Seems grease was main ingredient for all things ordered. Will grant i did not expect gourmet food but the way presented expected better. When one gets a sandwich i do not expect grease to be dripping on plate when picked up as did the fries came with it. It aspires to be more than is used for with ice cream as a basis for park goers. The addition of what seems to be some odd music performance was a true turn off as well. I remember playing there as a child an the stone walls are a new addition i think or i forgot them but to just have a sign saying stay off an expect it to be family friendly does not fly. We went to Green Shutters for breakfast this morning, anticipating a nice, relaxing meal. Relaxing is putting it in great terms, I felt like we were held captive. We sat down at 9:25, was given menus at 9:40 and our order was taken at 10:00. Our meal arrived at 10:40. I do not fault the young girl who was literally running around to keep up. I fault the management for poor staffing and poor training. While the service was flawed, it must run all the way to the kitchen as it took 40 mins for two bagel sandwiches. There was only five parties or so, so this was pretty much unacceptable. After our 75 minute wait, anything would have tasted good. However, I have nothing good to say about the sandwich that eventually arrived, so I will end my review there. Well, I thought it was finished. I have to add that we waited 20 mins for our check, only to have to hunt our waitress down and request it.
