I love the bubble, but let's be honest, it's not the best place for healthy food if you want to eat out. I usually prefer to grab something at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or Sprouts since the eating-out options are so unhealthy. So, I was extremely happy to find a healthy, organic restaurant in the South Bay! My sister and I stopped by here to pick up take out for picnic at the Bowl and split two things: Temple Green Salad Organic hand torn green leaf lettuce, shredded beets and carrots, organic mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocados and seasonal sprouts. Pita Sandwich ...is served in whole wheat pita bread with organic tempeh or crumbled veggie burger, organic hummus, organic lettuce, carrots, red onions and sprouts. $10.00 The best part of the Pita Sandwich was the crumbled veggie burger. I definitely think I'll get the veggie burger the next time I go back. Everything was really fresh and delicious and I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more things on the menu. Pricing - about $26 for the two - is pretty spot on. It might seem expensive to those who aren't shopping for organic food, but it's actually really reasonable. I originally gave Green Temple four stars because there's nothing else like it in the area, but after trying the organic options elsewhere, I have to downgrade Green Temple to a 3. It's a good (and your only) option for real organic food in the South Bay, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, whereas I would for other places like Sage Organic, Real Food Daily, Cafe Gratitude, etc... so I can't really say it's a 4 star restaurant. read more

I have a hard time judging American vegetarian because it's one of few cuisines that feels intentional. American vegetarian often feels like the meat is obviously missing or removed, and it's that perception of absence that tends to cloud my judgement. Even the Jamaica Tea tasted a little bit diluted. The root flavor was new and refreshing, but it also tasted a bit watered-down. The Green Mix was easily one of the best veggie bowls I've ever had, and the tofu sauce was so unique - I've never had anything like it! Plus it was out-of-this-world good. Unfortunately, I didn't think a plate of steamed vegetables was quite worth seven dollars. The Tostaditas were basically gigantic, glorified nachos that needed more salt. The vegetables remained infallibly fresh, but the combination was a bit bland. I'm a bit torn about Green Temple. The food is impressively fresh, but I could have done it myself for less than half the price. I liked the food, but I'm not sure it was worth paying someone else to make. read more

Tiny restaurant, tiny parking lot, BIG flavor! The atmosphere was definitely charming, with the exotic tapestries, fresh flowers, open patio, and colorful cushions. Our Australian server was so sweet; i want to take him home with me! We ended up getting dessert for our appetizer (that's how we roll!)--some kind of nutty chocolatey pie--and it was sinfully delicious, so creamy. The food here was pricier than I expected, but the portions are definitely enough to fill you up, and I did not miss meat for a second! I got the Sheperd's Gold... who says vegan food can't be super hearty? It was the perfect compliment to a chilly autumn evening... Next time I'm going to treat myself to something from their unique tea selection. *** UPDATE: I return almost 2 years later! Some things don't change: the beautiful exotic decor, the young men serving us with their cute little accents, the hearty flavors of tofu sauce and mushroom sauce and whatever other clever vegan sauces that they have come up with. The bread is a bit dense and can be a little dry so I ask for the tofu sauce on the side so I can dip my sandwich in it as I go. Yum. Crepe with Fruit and Macadamia Nut Cream - MACADAMIA NUT CREAM!! Came here with friends because it is one friend's favorite place to eat on Catalina. Walking in, the decor was very nice. Very serene and cozy. Heat lamps all around and indoor seating just a few steps further in. I was a bit worried about the menu because I'm not a vegetarian but I was excited to try it. I ordered the special which was a mushroom spinach enchiladas plate with rice and beans. It looked really good but it was just a bit bland. They did have tapatio which made it a lot better. I also had some of the white lasagna which I have to say was way better than I thought it was going to be. I definitely could have had an entire plate of it. One thing to note is this place does not serve any alcohol for those interested in a drink with dinner. Overall, food was decent and service was good. Delicious vegetarian comfort food! I tried the 4 Bowl based on Yelp reviews (got the rice, black beans, crumbled veggie burger, and baked potatoes) and it was DELICIOUS. Tofu sauce - DELICIOUS. Whole Wheat Walnut Bread - DELICIOUS! Sparkling hibiscus iced tea - DELICIOUS. It was served in a carafe - more tea for me! Our server was great - nice, friendly, helpful, attentive. He told me I needed more color on my plate. It was black and brown and tan and white and boring looking. But DELICIOUS! Jason said his avocado melt had more of an avocado spread with a lot of sprouts, and he would have preferred avocado slices and less sprouts (he did enjoy it though). He appreciated the option of having dairy cheese instead of soy cheese. I thought the lima bean soup was just average but Jason loved his tomato-base soup (I think it was a bean soup?). It's a bit pricey - I'm wondering if it's pricey because it's vegetarian food or because it's in a high rent area. And unlike Happy Veggie, Green Temple wasn't about the anti-meat propaganda. I'm trying to eat more veggie meals, though I will never be a vegetarian. So I found out about this Green Temple place on Yelp. I got there on a Sunday, around 1:00pm. Not very crowded. Personally, I think they went overboard with the whole Asian-Moroccanesque decor. It's like someone with no idea of proper Feng Shui went nuts in a Feng Shui shop and bought everything and anything that looked Asian -- but I suppose hippies would dig it. I sat outside and the ambiance is peaceful, like sitting in a garden, but the near-clutter-like decorative stuff everywhere made it feel kind of claustrophobic. The table I had was too low for the chair I was sitting in; I was hunching down to get the food into my mouth. I'm not sure if all the tables are like this. I don't weigh decor and ambiance too heavily in my restaurant reviews, but do try to include my observations, in case people want to know what to expect. This is a true vegetarian's veggie restaurant. None of the fake wannabe meat dishes; nothing called "chik'n" here. I had a full-size veggie quesadilla (not vegan; has real cheese) and what they call a 4 Bowl with my choices of broccoli, green beans, crumpled veggie burger and tempeh, covered in tofu sauce (Jr. size). All veggies were perfectly steamed. The quesadilla was made with whole wheat tortillas and perfectly toasted with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and (I think) sprouts... don't remember exactly what veggies. It was delish and surprisingly filling. The 4 Bowl was good, but I personally found the tofu sauce (which everyone on Yelp is raving about) to be a bit on the salty side -- although it is still tasty. Maybe they just poured too much in my Jr. size bowl, but everything in the bowl was drenched in it. Ask for the sauce on the side if you want to control how much is used. Service was good and friendly. A lot of people sound like regulars, as a few had come and gone who seemed to know the staff. The prices are fair, considering that they get all organic ingredients and shop at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods (as claimed in their menu). I will be going back, as they have a nice variety of veggie dishes that all sound tasty. read more

Sorry to say, but the food here was mediocre at best. For appetizer, we got pita, celery, and carrots with hummus. It was disappointing. It tasted grainy. A few weeks ago, for our New Year's Party, my sister had made hummus for appetizers, and it tasted much better than the one served here, so comparing the two, this was a let down for sure. I ordered the Burger, and it came with a wheat bun, the patty, a tomato, red onions, and lettuce. Nothing extraordinary. On the side was a small salad, which was actually quite tasty, and ketchup with mustard (either dijon or grey poupon). It was a little dry, but taste-wise, it was okay. My friend ordered something that looked like empanadas, but his food was REALLY dry... The ambiance and environment of the restaurant, on the other hand, is quite nice. It has a cozy feel and they have heat lamps for those who choose to sit out in the patio. The server was also very kind, and I liked his accent. If I'm ever feeling vegetarian again (which is not often at all), perhaps I'll come back here and try something else. If you ARE vegetarian, you'll probably like this spot a lot. For non-vegetarian people, you might want to avoid this joint and stick with real meat. read more

It is a beautiful, eclectic spot to have lunch with good vegan and vegetarian food. I really recommend customizing one of the bowls because it is full of good fresh stuff, and a good portion size. FIRST IMPRESSION Came here for lunch on a Saturday around 1230 PM. You can decide between outside seating in the front, back patio or inside. Since it was a bit chilly out, I opted for the outside front patio that had fresh air and some sunshine. I work indoors everyday so I usually decide to sit outside, it's my yelp motto! THE GRUB Their whole menu sounds pretty appetizing, and I've been craving more of a plant based diet lately. The waitress was very kind (she never mentioned her name but she had long dark hair), and she told me the special of the day was the tamales. YESSS I have been craving tamales! I had a small cup of the split pea soup to start, which was nice and hot and very good! The soup also came with a hefty slice of walnut bread that they apparently make in-store. The tamales arrived and it was a pretty large portion so I immediately asked for a small box to pack some of it away. The tamales are open faced and have black beans and guac, and some with a side of some cooked veggies in a delicious sauce! Loved the side dish. I'll be back to try more for sure! read more

Green Temple is amazing! Everything is organic here & you really do feel super healthy. By no means, am I a vegetarian or a healthy junkie who only likes organic food! I mean, I am a carnivore! Rawr! Nevertheless, I love their creamy tofu sauce!!! I cannot recall anything bad I tried here because everything is so delicious! But my favorite is their four bowl which you can customize by adding vegies to rice & I absolutely adore their iced-teas! Yummmmm! The ambiance is interesting. Eastern zen + hippie style with a fountain in the middle. You can also choose to sit in the front of the restaurant for more quite meal or sit inside. Nevertheless, I like sitting in the back by the fountain as it's perfect for a semi-breezy, sunny day after the beach. We ate dinner there last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant is small and most of the tables are outdoors, although they're in a (very attractive) courtyard. I ordered the (vegetarian) enchiladas and my husband ordered the (vegetarian) tostaditas. His meal came with a cup of soup (which was actually the size of a small bowl) and he chose the pinto bean. The flavors in each dish (plus the soup) were *outstanding* and we enjoyed every morsel. Also, our server was extremely pleasant. The cost - including the tax, but before the tip - was $29.43, which was quite reasonable. Note that the restaurant is very popular (and as I previously mentioned, it's small) - so unless you plan to arrive when they first begin serving dinner (as we did), I recommend making a reservation. As an aside, we timed our meal perfectly (strictly by accident) in order to then walk a block to the beach and watch a beautiful sunset. First off, I would definitely recommend GTV to any of my friends who are vegetarians, vegans or omnivores. The skinny: - Fresh, well-prepared food - Good variety of types of dishes - Friendly and helpful staff - Cozy and charming atmosphere Tips: - Come in small parties - For dishes that have tofu sauce, ask for it on the side - Inquire about the food and ingredients if you're interested in knowing more I've been to GTV a few times since moving to Redondo Beach and it's a great go-to spot for healthy eating. I've had the 4 Bowl -- you can choose 4 items out of a long list that comes assembled in perfect portions. I recommend asking for the tofu sauce on the side (which is outstanding, btw) so that your bowl isn't drenched in sauce. We asked the waitress what was in the sauce because it was so tasty and she actually brought us out the recipe list so we could read it in whole. One specialty entree I ordered which was fantastic was the tamales. Two homemade tamales filled with homemade polenta, topped with guacamole and soy mozzarella. It comes with a dinner salad, which is one of the most impressive dinner salads I've ever had, and sides of "Mexican cole slaw" and tomatillo salsa. I could only eat one tamale and had the other the following day and it was amazing even as a left-over. I also recommend coming in small parties (up to 4, or 6 if you call ahead). The place is filled with small tables, and has a windy layout in the back patio. For me, it's a mix of the food, the atmosphere and the service that makes it a 5-star place for me. The waiter was describing how they go to the market in the mornings to buy the greens for the salads, and you could just see the excitement in his eyes and hear the pride in his voice. I hope you're lucky enough to go on a day where they have the Tamales special because those are out of the world. The soy mozzarella actually has a bit of case-in in it so if you're strict vegan, ask for soy mozzarella on the side. This is a mixed review; based on the food and atmosphere, it probably would be at least a 4. We went for my daughter's birthday yesterday as she had been there before and liked it. Food was good, not exactly my favorite kind in general, but I had the Tostaditos and everything was very fresh and tasty. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. 1st server (we had two) was efficient if not overly friendly, but 2nd server was nice. The problem is when I went to use the restroom. I was finishing up and washing my hands when there was a series of aggressive, loud knocks at the door. I shouted "washing my hands" or something, then continued. There was another set of loud knocks. I walked out, to find the owner outside with a woman with a small child. He mumbled some justification along the lines that I should have let him know I was in the bathroom. The woman I could tell was mortified and apologized to me. Other than the excuse he offered, never stopped by my table to apologize, explain, anything. I asked the waiter if it was the restaurant's usual practice to interrupt customers while in the bathroom. They said they have been having trouble with people coming in from the Summer Fair going on in RB, which I get to some extent. However, they should install some sort of control to limit to only customers if it's such a problem. The main thing was the owner not even seeming to care. There are too many good places in the South Bay to bother with one who doesn't seem to care about his patrons, so goodbye Green Temple. read more

Second time having dinner here. Still can't say I'm a total fan of this place. Had the corn and cheese quesadilla appetizer, which was good. Followed this by sharing the lasagne, pasta with corn and special sauce, broccoli casserole & pumpkin "cheesecake". Previous yelpers raved about the special sauce. To me, it was rather bland. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but I liked the food here! I got the walnut loaf and my friend got the blue plate. I liked mine better. They didn't have the white lasagna here when we came. :( This restaurant is really cute. We sat inside because it was cold. The patio heaters are nice, but they can't block the wind. I love the decor, it has an exotic swing to it. The food was good. Everything in the entree section was $15. It came with soup or salad. I got the soup which I really liked. The entree was huge. I took home half of my loaf. My boyfriend tried some of the loaf when I got home and hated it. He hates any vegan food though. I really liked it. The service was great. I don't understand the people complaining about the service. They did tell my friend and I to leave after we finished eating, but it was because they were really packed and they needed our table. They were really nice about it though. I parked in one of their four spots. There was plenty of street parking. I'll definitely come back again! read more

Ah, Green Temple! How I love your eclectic decor, relaxing atmosphere and musical selections (which btw, was Thievery Corporation's "The Richest Man in Babylon" album - one of my faves! - when I was here last Sunday) My dear friend and I chose Green Temple because we had a great experience the last time. Our 2nd trip there, was good overall. It was raining on and off so that day, so there wasn't much of a crowd. We sat at one of the corner tables, by a window and next to the kitchen area. We talked the entire time and was pretty oblivious to whatever was going on around us. We received good service and everyone was courteous. My friend chose the 4 Bowl (avocado, veggie burger crumbles, tofu and hummus) while I went with my favorite the Tofu Bowl. Our food was as yummy as we remembered. Will definitely head back here again next time we're in the area and craving vegan food. read more
