two plates of food on a table
    Rob B.

I had been to several great restaurants in the area during a mini getaway a while back, but on this night in particular I was looking for a great place to eat that was romantic. As we walked by we happen to notice this place and my ex-girlfriend looked inside and said it looked nice, but it was rather empty. The owner saw us and he ran out the door to greet us which was the only reason we decided to eat here. He is a very nice man and he is one of the best host/servers I have ever had. Now maybe it was because there was only two other couples there at the time, I don't know but I definitely appreciated it. He is Moroccan and my ex-girlfriend is from Portugal and speaks five languages so they enjoyed speaking about things in regards to Europe and such. We asked what he recommend for us to eat and we started out with the escargot and mushrooms with bread and garlic butter. I must say, it was amazing! So as we drank our red wine which was very bold and flavorful and I decided on the red snapper for me and the seafood paella for her. Now this is one of her favorite dishes so she was excited to try his after he bragged about how good his was. The food finally arrived and it looked pretty good but my the fish was filled with bones and wasn't very flavorful and the vegetables and baked potato were just okay. She didn't even finish 2/3 of her paella as she said the clams were overcooked as you can see in the picture and the risotto was actually burned to the skillet. I liked this place but the food could have been way better for the almost $160 with the tip I spent and especially when we were the last guests to eat and he had all the time in the world to prepare our meals with excellence to make sure we were served his best dishes. I will give them another try in the future when I am in the area with the expectation that my next meal is way better than the not so great ones we had on that night. I am going to give them three stars only because of the service and the escargot because the meals we had on that night were barely two stars

Would not recommend this place unless you enjoy overpriced mediocre food in a very pretentious…read moreenvironment. Everything we ordered was either trying too hard and missed, or was poorly done. For example, we couldn't taste the oysters at all because they were filled with some kind of cream with a rhubarb sauce on top. A complete abuse of an oyster in my opinion. Oysters are a delicate flavor and the point of them is to taste (or enhance) their unique brine, not bury them in a sweet sauce over cream. The giant pork chop was overcooked. The fries were so overcooked you could barely bite into them (and insanely salty). It is also incredibly overpriced. I rarely comment on price (we eat at Michelin restaurants a few times a year), but this place is ridiculous. Basically Clyde's style of food for 3x the price (and Clyde's is better). The staff was nice, but they seriously need to drop some of the pretense. Like I don't need my table swept for crumbs several times throughout a meal when you don't even bother to provide a beverage napkin to mitigate condensation (on a bare wood table, no tablecloths). The servers won't even take dishes off the table. They find their little crumb sweeper minions to do that for them. I've eaten at fine dining all over the world. This place is just trying too hard to be something it's not. Oh, and you also get the perk of paying $15 to park in the lot behind the hotel. Because apparently spending $500 on dinner doesn't include parking. Ridiculous. AVOID. They need to figure something else out. Loudouners may have money, but we also have taste and don't like being swindled.

Hands down the best place I know to get crabs, and I'll tell you exactly why…read more First, the size. They don't advertise it, but the crabs in their all you can eat are big. These are the biggest crabs I've seen anywhere at a price this reasonable. That's the whole equation right there. Which brings me to the drive. I know it sounds backwards to head inland for crabs, and yes, when you've got friends visiting and you point the car away from the water, it takes some explaining. But compare it to a place like Bethesda Crab House, where you're paying for the real estate as much as the crabs. I would rather drive forty five minutes into the country and eat better crabs for less. Those of us in 20854 make this trip constantly, and this place gets talked about in country club circles all the time for exactly that reason: outstanding crabs, unbeatable deal. It's in the same category of open secret as the lobster specials at H Mart at $12.99 a pound, sometimes down to $9.99. Everybody in the know knows. The snow crab is the other reason. It picks clean, juicy, and not too salty. It comes apart fast. No wrangling with rubbery, bendy legs. And you can get it in the all you can eat too. The place feels like a biker bar. Nothing fancy about it, but that's exactly the room you want to be in when you're eating crabs and drinking beer. It also beats Mays, the other spot people mention around there. I've eaten at both. Mays has tiny little crabs. Avery's has some big ones. Not close. And if you're bringing people who don't do seafood, the rest of the menu holds up. The ribs and everything alongside them are outstanding. I've come here with folks who were just along for the ride and watched them go to town. I tried it myself and it was legitimately that good. Last thing: Wednesdays, the all you can eat blue crabs go on sale. Plan around it if you're price conscious.

We've had plenty of bad experiences with Chinese buffet seafood making us feel sick--pretty sure I'm not the only one--but that has never happened here. The food is always freshly steamed and served hot when you order. I'm not a big fan of overly salty, heavy American-style seasoning, so I really appreciate that they can prepare it without all that. Also, my daughter doesn't eat much seafood, but they're flexible and let us order something simple like a mozzarella stick for her, which is a huge plus. Yes, there's an 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more, but it feels fair for the quality and service. The gumbo you can order on the side is amazing, and the crab legs, mussels, clams, and shrimp are all fresh and delicious. It's $58.99 per person, which isn't cheap, but definitely worth it. Highly recommend.

We started with the hush puppies, sweet potato fries and chicken wings. All were perfectly fried and tasty. The hush puppies were the highlight. Then we moved onto our seafood. We got a huge platter of snow crab legs, a lobster tail, shrimp and mussels. The seafood came out piping hot and cooked well. I wish the seafood had a bit more seasoning and less chunks of garlic. But, overall enjoyed it! They give you gloves and a bib so you can dig in without worrying getting too messy. One special thing they have on the menu is their ramen side. I've never seen this at other crab boils. The ramen is so tasty in the garlic butter sauce. It was my favorite part and I kept going back for more! We ordered another platter of seafood and were stuffed! The service can be improved. Our waitress came by a few times but not enough to get refills on our drinks or other things we needed. But, overall a good experience.

Interestingly, the restaurant is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The off street parking lot is small but fortunately there is paid street parking by an app, with no coin acceptance. There are approximately six-eight outdoor tables in the front of the restaurant that seat about four people each. The indoor dining area seats approximately eighty guests. This is by no means a fancy restaurant but it is clean and comfortable Our server Jalin was very sweet and attentive and recommended several dishes. Beer and mixed drinks are also served here. We started with the fried calamari as an appetizer. The calamari had a delicious crunchy coating and was not chewy. For pur main dishes, my wife had the pecan and coconut crusted flounder and I had the seafood jambalaya. Both dishes were excellent with generous portions. Neither of the dishes were overcooked, with the flounder was light and prepared perfectly. Prices were reasonable and worth every penny, especially with how generous the portions were. We will definitely be going back to try other dishes and recommend giving this restaurant a try.

I liked the mussels, but the jambalaya is what Gen Z would label as mid. Not really authentic at all. Rice was plain and there was no Cajun flavor profile. I also had the cream of crab soup and that was ok. Unfortunately for them, I just had that at Fisherman's Crabdeck near Annapolis as well and that totally smashed the soup at Ragin by comparison. Our server was good though and attentive. I just wished the food was a little better.
