Last night (8/24) my wife picked up a couple of salmon salads and brought them home with some chips and the buffalo dip. The food was even better than it normally is, which is a high bar to surpass. Came here on Saturday around lunchtime, and was happy to see it was not super busy. I had the brisket, BF had the pulled pork. Well, both were good, I think the brisket was the clear winner. I also had french fries as a side, and I thought they were extremely good. Very salty, but that's how I like them! Prices were decent. When you're greeted as courteously as I was when you walk in, it's tough to give less than 4 stars. NOVa has lots of great BBQ joints so it's hard to stand out. But I'd never been so was curious about this place. I came in and two younger servers greeted me very politely and took me to my seat. Another one soon came to my table to take my order, and came back 5 minutes later when he understood I wasn't ready to order yet (even drinks) I ordered a beer and Mac and cheese. Standard dishes but still good. After I was finished my server came back to check on me. Grand slam, "hit out of the ballpark" lunch here at Smokin Willy BBQ! I went with the brisket tacos, and they were the best I've ever had. Hands down. Paired them with the spicy barbecue sauce, and they were just fantastic. For my side item, I went with the collard greens, which were the equal to or exceeded any collard greens I've previously had. How often do you want to drink all the leftover juice in your collard greens?! The fact that it was a cool day also made them a perfect side choice, but they were seriously amazing. I will definitely order these again next time we are back. My wife got the smoked turkey soup and a side salad, which she enjoyed. Great beer selection and cocktail selection as well. Ordered a pound of smoked turkey breast, a pound of smoked brisket, a side of Mac and Cheese and a side of Coleslaw. Everything was great. Brisket melted in your mouth and were excellent with the BBQ sauces provided -- I prefer my brisket more like the burnt end, i.e., no sauces needed because perfectly spiced and burnt. We love their brisket I personally love their turkey Reuben with a side salad it's excellent and if you have room for it the banana pudding Is Awesome. If I were to rate this restaurant solely based on their ribs, I'd give it 5 stars. But man cannot live on ribs alone. The brisket was dry and lacked any portion of a smoke ring. The pastrami was way too salty and tough to chew. Several reviews mentioned the Mac and cheese. It was okay. Tasted like it came straight out of the box. Good potato salad and coleslaw. Booths need new cushions, but overall it's a nice place to eat. Getting back to the ribs, they were the first properly cooked ribs I've had since moving to Virginia 20 months ago. Somebody should teach the rest of the barbecue joints that the meat shouldn't fall off the bone. It should tug off cleanly. Whoever cooks the ribs at Willy's has obviously figured that out. read more

I am waiting for my son to arrive, so starting this review from the parking lot before I even walk in. I just reviewed som of the previous comments and have to admit that I am skeptical, but willing to give it a try. From the outside it looks fine. Let's see how things go! When I first walked in there was a sign saying to check in at the bar for seating. But the setup is like a labyrinth that requires orienteering skills to get around. Not a great start. But as we approached the bar we were greeted by a friendly hostess who greeted us and showed us to our tables. Our waitress, Alex, came over quickly after. She was friendly and polite and answered all of our questions. The decor was nice. Rustic. Lots of wood. But it looked good. My son and I bit ordered Brisket Mac n cheese with fries. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was fantastic! The dish was great, fried were wonderful and there was so much that neither of us could finish our plates. 1st time trying Smokin Willy BBQ, and unfortunately I'm giving them 3 stars. The service was great but the food was lacking. I ordered the brisket platter, tortilla soup and crab dip. The brisket platter was sub par. It seemed more like a half order even though I ordered a full plate. Additionally, the brisket was dry and did not have the signature "smoke ring" you usually see on brisket. This makes me think it was not smoked properly or was cooked in an oven. On the other hand, the tortilla soup and crab dip were pretty good. If you're looking for quality BBQ, don't expect greats results here. I would send my friends and family to Monk's BBQ to be honest. If I had known the quality at Smokin Willy, I would have just opted out, but since Monks was getting some renovations done I thought I'd give them a try. read more

The tortillas were not consistent.....toasted for the carnitas and "raw" for the brisket....don't imagine that was on purpose but a mistake by the kitchen. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed when it came to the brisket. Chunks of brisket were mixed in with the mac n cheese and it wasn't very tender. I think it would have been better if it were shredded. Definitely not the "fall of the bone" brisket I was expecting. Thankfully the sauces on the table added some moisture and additional flavor. We used Smokin Willy as our Wedding Caterer and I just want to say WOW we had our wedding this past Sunday, October 18th, 2020; and everything was absolutely AMAZING. I 100% have already recommended them to literally everyone I know. Now let's get to the nitty-gritty! We found out our wedding caterer went out of business on Tuesday afternoon (our wedding was on Sunday) we immediately began calling other vendors to see availability, only a couple of caterers were actually available on such short notice. Smokin Willy did not originally have the staff to work our event on such short notice, however, after hearing our story Chris the owner was able to work with a couple of other restaurants in the area and was able to work our event. We literally had a 1-hour planning call with him at 10 pm on Tuesday night. The very next day we had another 1-hour final planning call with our wedding planner and their event planner everything went smoothly and we were excited about our wedding again! Fast forward (just 4 days) to Sunday the 18th our wedding day and I was absolutely astounded for only 4 days notice, the staff was amazing, the food was amazing, the service was amazing; Chris himself was there for at least some of the night if not all of it! Everyone couldn't believe how delicious everything was and they absolutely loved how we had everything plated. We did "family style" but plated so everybody got a little bit of everything! They made sure the bride and groom got appetizers while we were taking photos and let me tell you those bacon-wrapped scallops are something to die for! They also made sure that during dinner we got our plates towards the beginning of service. This review can only do so much, all I can tell you is I highly recommend them, and if you are on the fence on them just hire them! If they can handle an event in 4 days and make my Italian family happy they can make anyone happy!
