    Macao tarts
    Jennie D.

Picked up some cake slices and egg tarts for my friends birthday. This is a place where you pick up your goodies and leave. No place for seating. The cake slices were light and not too sweet. The egg tarts were great. I got the Macao tarts. I'd definitely come back again. Has a small lot in the back for parking. Wasn't busy at all when I dropped by. Service was okay.

We ordered chocolate cake inside, they gave us mixed leftover flavors . Looks ugly and disappointing

Ordered a custom fox-face chocolate birthday cake for my daughter and was extremely disappointed with what we received. What arrived was basically a regular round cake with a small animal topper placed on top -- not a fox-face shaped custom cake as expected. The colors were pastel pink/white instead of realistic fox colors, and the overall appearance looked very different from what was discussed. The inside was even more disappointing. We ordered a chocolate cake, but the cake contained large vanilla cake sections mixed with chocolate layers. The bakery later said they did this because white cream could not fully cover chocolate cake, which honestly made no sense. Many bakeries successfully make fully frosted chocolate cakes without inserting thick vanilla cake layers. The cake also had uneven layer thickness, uneven cream distribution, and inconsistent colors/flavors throughout. For a premium-priced custom cake, this felt poorly executed and misleading. If I wanted a regular cake with a topper, I could have made one myself for a fraction of the cost. This cake was for my daughter's birthday, and we were so disappointed that we barely ate it. About 90% of the cake is still sitting in our fridge. I normally do not leave negative reviews, but customers ordering custom cakes should know what to expect.

A wide selection of delicious pastries including my favorite portugese egg tarts! This bakery has a small parking lot in the back and is a cozy space. Service was good, quick and concise. Portugese egg tarts were delicious, ham and cheese bread as well as tbe hot dog buns were average. Prices are all around $2-3 so not bad at all! Will come by again to grab some quick bread :)

We were visiting in the area and thought we'd stop by for some pastries. We got: ham and pork roll and bun, taro bun, cocktail bun, HK style egg tart, and durian crepe slice. Everything was delicious. The bread was so soft and the fillings had plenty of flavor. The durian crepe was well balanced with the durian flavor and the cream in between the crepe slices. If we lived in the area we would definitely be coming here super often. The staff was friendly (they also speak Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and probably more languages which is so neat and allows for great communication) and easy to get to from the hotel nearby. Definitely worth the pit stop!

I love the amount of selection here and the prices are great. I didn't try the cakes because they didn't look too great but I had the purple yam, caterpillar and black sesame loaf. The yeast smell is pretty strong and really came through in the purple yam flavor wise. It made me a bit concerned to try anything else. When I opened the bag of black sesame loaf, it was also pretty strong but the flavor of black sesame did come through. It was so soft and pillowy.

    Pineapple Buns are good!

In my humble opinion, a meal is not complete without dessert. So after having lunch at a restaurant nearby, I headed to Green Wheat Field Bakery to satisfy my sweettooth. Stepped into a cute, cozy, and clean bakery. They had a diverse selection of freshly baked goods available that Sunday afternoon I dropped by. Bought a couple of Pineapple buns and (4) Egg Tarts. Prices were quite reasonable. More importantly, both items tasted darn good. Definitely, one of the better Pineapple buns that I've ever tried. Same for the Egg Tarts. I don't find myself in the San Gabriel area very often. Chances are that whenever I'm in the area, I will absolutely be visiting Green Wheat Field Bakery. Good service plus reasonable prices plus yummy bakery products equals repeat business whenever I'm in town.

Heavenly bliss has taken the unlikely earthly form of a brioche bun! Flavors of happiness are available in, but not limited to, Custard, Sesame, & Blueberry. It's joy at first sight as the fresh-baked loaves steam up the translucent windows of their paper bags. Unsliced, it's buyer's choice to dig in with knife or nails. However you tear in, the bread will yield and resist in ways foretelling softness and substance. The filling inside, whether chunky blueberry jam or thick custard paste, is a blessed bonus. Sweet treats like the Mini Cheesecake or Yogurt Bun are rapturous revelations. Savory snacks like the Ham & Pork Sung Bun and BBQ Pork Bun are divine discoveries. Green Wheat Field Bakery is part of a chain with only 3 branches in SF under the name Fancy Wheat Field and exactly one location in the LA area. Providence evidently smiles down on believers of the immaculate loaf.

    80th birthday!

Ordered my dad's 80th birthday cakes here, that's right 2 cakes lol! They did longevity lotus cake and standard birthday cake. Both cakes were delicious and well made. I've had pastries and other cakes here for other birthdays and always excellent cakes. Not too much cream and cakes and light.

Green Wheat Field Bakery is a solid bakery with various selections of pastry, cakes, and bread. There's small parking lot in the back. The Portuguese egg tarts are $2 each, and regular egg tarts $1.59 each. The regular egg tarts have the thick cookie crust, and the flavor's pretty tasty. The sesame loaf bread ($5) is moist with rich sesame glaze and bits of walnut, and it's hard to eat just one piece. Great to pick up treats in the area.

There's stuff like mango pomelo, black sesame soup, coconut milk base with your choice of ingredients, even drinks and fried food.... There's gotta be something for everyone! I LOVE peach gum and haven't seen it that often but here there's a whole menu section for it! It's a jelly texture and is full of collagen and is really good for you. Snow swallow sounds scary but think of it like vegan birds nest? Not quite sure what the health benefits are but I'm sure it does something. Snow Swallow with Taro balls and Peach Gum in Coconut Milk, cold ($9)-- Can't vouch for the hot version but the cold one is great!!! It's so refreshing with a good mix of textures. There's jelly from peach gum, silky from snow swallow, chewy from taro balls.... everything just works so well together. The coconut milk is blended with other things I think because it's not jarring like coconut milk straight out of the can. It's sweet but not too sweet. A perfect canto dessert!! Portion size is good for 1 person which makes it kind of pricey $9 for a small bowl .... But nowadays even boba is $7-8. And this is harder to find and has collagen and health benefits so I say it's worth! There's a big shared parking lot in the plaza so parking is easy. Inside is clean with lots of tables. Bathroom is clean. Overall definitely will be coming back :)

I ordered the Peach pancakes (summer seasonal) this time, and I'm not even a big peach eater, but these had a great refreshing taste for the hot AF summer. Of course, they were not overly sweet whatsoever even with the vanilla bean ice cream on the side. The pancakes themselves taste a bit eggy and I'm an egg fan so that worked out great for me. I also ordered the peach lime tea and added clear boba, less sweet. The drink went perfectly because it had fresh lime and it's pleasant to pair sweets with savory & sour. Plus the textures from the boba and pancakes made it more fun to eat. I probably waited about 15 minutes or so for the pancakes, but the space itself is cute and the staff seem friendly. The girl working the counter was a young girl just getting by her summer day job. She was nice but timid. It was our first time there and a little more energy on her end could've been better. Ordered the ube swirl, pineapple dole whip, mung bean taiyaki, and a custard one togo. The taiyaki that goes onto the ice cream is a lot bigger than one we ordered to go. I thought it would be as big, but when I got it, it was so much smaller and flat. Also, the taiyaki that goes on top of the ice cream was old. It had been sitting there for a while or was made earlier as it was hard and difficult to bite. The red bean inside I also assumed was a paste like how they make the Japanese version, however there were whole pieces in there. It was okay, but I thought they'd be like paste. Overall, the only thing that was good was the ube swirl and the pineapple dole whip. It was also extremely warm in the shop, like no AC in the triple digits summer heat. Had to eat it elsewhere. I most likely won't be back.
