    durian cake
    Connie L.

Ordered an 8 in durian cake with all white frosting and i requested to not add the fruits on top for the aesthetic I was going for. The cake itself was moist and light. I love cake that isn't too dense. This was very light. The durian flavor really shines through. It had good amount of durian and it was perfectly sweetened. The frosting was very light too. I really enjoyed the cake overall I would def order this again. I called in to place an order the day of and it was $51. Decent price for the cake. Also they sale by the slice, I was able to buy a slice and try it before I pulled the trigger on ordering the cake for my son's birthday.

    Pandan cake 8 inches $41

Small parking lot. They have specialty cakes. We really like their Pandan and Duarian Cakes. The 6 inches is $30. The 8 inches is $41. Bring cash.

50th anniversary cake (flowers and topper were mine)
    Angela C.

This review is long overdue but I wanted to thank Sunny Bakery for creating a beautiful cake for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We were having a banquet at the Five Star Seafood restaurant in San Gabriel and I wanted to find a local bakery so that I didn't have to drive too far to pick up the cake. I know my mother in law always get us goodies from Sunny, and after reading some positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to reach out to them about ordering a cake. Most of the communication was done via text. I sent them a few pictures of what I had in mind, the filling of the cake (strawberry & mango), the date, time and location of the event. They sent me back a fairly quick response with the one that they could do along with pricing, which included delivery to Five Star Seafood restaurant- yay! Less work for me! Pricing was very reasonable compared to other bakeries I called. They actually responded to me when I was texting them late at night - like 9 pm, so I appreciate their responsiveness. They didn't ask for a deposit but wanted the whole cake paid for in advance. I was hesitant about that as I didn't want to get screwed if they didn't show up, and the lady said that I could pay it 2 days before the event via Zelle. Sunny has been around for a long time, and I figured they're legit, so I took my chances and paid them the entire amount 2 days before. The day of the event, I was worried because the cake didn't arrive at the stated time, but then again it could be a parking issue in the plaza...IYKYK. As I called the bakery for the ETA of the cake, the delivery guy showed up with cake in hand, and it looked great. Not exactly like what the picture was, but still pretty. I decorated it myself with flowers I purchased at TJ's. I had fun getting my parents to recreate their wedding photo of their cake cutting/feeding each other, and best of all the cake was delicious and enjoyed by everyone!

3 tier vintage wedding cake - dimensions 6x8x10 serves 50 people
    Megan O.

Look how cute our cake turned out! I asked for a cute 3 tier vintage wedding cake and she definitely delivered! I was looking around SGV for an affordable 3 tier wedding cake, and it seemed impossible to find one under $500, but I got this cake for under $300. I asked for 6x8x10 dimensions to serve about 50 people. We had it delivered at 5pm and cut the cake at 8:30pm. Although it was whipped cream instead of butter cream, the icing lasted hours at room temperature without melting. I ordered a mocha cake with chocolate icing and it was light, fluffy, and not too sweet, which was perfect! There's was also option to pay cash and free delivery (we had it delivered to 888 Seafood Restaurant not too far away). The topper I bought separately from Temu. I would definitely recommend this bakery for your wedding cake needs if you're looking for something affordable :)

    50th anniversary cake

Was hunting around for an Asian bakery that made cakes with a crispy phyllo layer and came across this spot. My parents were celebrating their 50th anniversary so we wanted to get them a special cake. They had option to text an order so I was able to do all my correspondence through that. They sent me a copy of their menu although it was a little overwhelming and confusing. I ended up going with a vanilla cake with strawberry custard and the crispy layers. I sent them some reference photos of the type of design that I was looking for. I was a little worried because they didn't ask for a deposit or even my name, they said it would just be by my phone number. On the day of pickup, I was holding my breath but it turned out great! My parents loved it and everyone thought it was beautiful. My complaint and what knocked a star off was the skimpy custard and strawberry layer. For the price (which I know was heavily because of the design) I did expect that to be a little more robust. The custard was so thin there was barely any or even strawberry. The crispy layers were good though. I think they do a great job on design and I love the variety of Asian flavors and options. But I think they should definitely be a little better about the filling.

First time to place an order of Durian Cake for Mother's Day. I requested extra durian filling (paid a bit extra)... WOW there is a chunk of durian meat, not likely other places in Santa Ana, Filling more just creamy., I barely see Durian meat. Great service, very attentive and nice, good approachable when calling to place and order. Overall ambiance is nice for the little bakery, as long the quality meets my expectations. Strongly recommended this place..if you are Durian Cake lover.

    Coconut Green Cake (pandan)
    Haley W.

I was put in charge of getting a birthday cake for a friend that absolutely loves pandan, so I searched all over the SGV for a place that had pandan cake. It was harder to find than I expected but I saw Sunny Bakery on a couple lists and decided to give it a try. They do special orders, or you can just walk in and they have stuff ready to go which is what I did. I got the 6" coconut green cake which easily fed my group of 8 and it was an absolute HIT. The coconut inside was soft and fresh, truly impressive work. The pandan flavor was fresh and light. We will definitely be getting more cakes from here in the future! Note: they don't have a working phone. If you call the number it is disconnected, you just have to go in in person.

    8 in. Durian cake
    Iman A.

This was my first time ordering from this bakery and it was a lovely experience! I ordered a durian cake for Father's Day (8 in, $51) and it exceeded my expectations. My entire family said it reminded them of Malaysia and loved how it wasn't too sweet. A huge thank you to my coworker who recommended me this bakery!! She's been coming here for 10 years :)

Customized cakes (we added the decorations ourselves). 8" x 5" cake.
    Timothy T.

Sunny Bakery has been my family's go to Asian bakery for cakes since we were young (over 20 years now). My family loves their durian cake and durian cake rolls, however, over the past few years, the amount of durian has become less and less. I still recommend it if you like durian though. Recently we placed a customized order for two birthday cakes (8" x 5" each). We sent them sample pictures of what we wanted and they met our expectations! The 'fancier' cakes nowadays are too sweet, so we were glad that Sunny Bakery was able to accommodate our request.

Its a small shop on Main in Alhambra and there's a lot in the back as well as street parking. It's a brightly lit, pick up and go type place though there are a couple tables out front. The baked goods look really cute and enticing and I ended up going for a mystery box since I wasn't after a specific cake and the mystery aspect seemed appealing. I also got 6 egg tarts, which were a great price at $1 each. The baked goods/sweets looked better than they tasted flr me. The egg tarts had a texture that was a bit off putting for myself, it was more of a steamed egg texture than a silky custardy filling. Flavorwise, they were ok though. The mystery box was fun and I got an apple cake, peach cake, and a panda cake. Now the mystery box is day old cakes so keeping that in mind, they are like cream based "cakes" and are essentially cream covered gels/jellies of some sort. The flavor and textures were good, very light cream with strong fruit flavors (the panda was also a peach flavor, I think). As a set of the mystery box price, I think the cakes are fun to try but I wouldn't, personally, pay those prices for essentially shaped cream. I'm glad I tried a new spot but ultimately don't think it was super impressive and found most of their desserts and baked items to be average, or a little less so as for the egg tarts.

Most of these ended up being gifts, but I did enjoy one of the red velvet cookies and for an already sweet flavor profile with white chocolate chips in it, I was already fearing the worse, but went perfect with a glass of milk. The edges were nicely crisped by the baking too. Delicious. Love that they had a stock of cute, pre-decorated cookies available as well (some Sanrio characters, animals, etc.) They also list all the ingredients used in each of the baked goods that they have prepackaged, which is nice. This particular location though, could use some work with consistency. The selection and quality of pastries and drinks seem to vary throughout my many visits. My top pastries are all of their croissant-like pastries, especially the Pastry Frank (filled with a savory sausage inside) and Mini Strawberry Lemon Cream Croissant (filled with a smooth and tangy lemon cream and fresh strawberries that add a tartness). Both of these have flaky, buttery exterior shells that are wonderful to bite into. For cakes, I love the strawberry soft cream cake. This cake is simple, light, and not too sweet. The thin layers of vanilla, soft cream, and strawberries blend excellently together. I appreciate that they provide free candles with whole cakes. An underrated cake is the green tea roll cake, which is delicious, but not ideal for celebrations.
