I cannot begin to express how pleased I am with my experience here. I have called around to numerous bakeries and this was the only one that was within our budget! I think it's ridiculous other stores are charging $125+ for a 6 inch gender reveal cake (no decorations/ no writing). Is it because it's a gender reveal cake with either pink or blue frosting so they have to hike up the ridiculous prices?! Look no further everyone!! Get all your baked goods and beautifully made cakes here! Other places also want a week's notice before pick up. This spot is only 1 day!! I spoke to the owner over the phone and gave him the details of what my vision was for the cake. He made my vision come true, but even better than I thought it would be! And because you order the cake one day ahead, you can taste how moist and fresh the cake actually is! Versus if you were to order a week in advance anywhere else, the cake would be dry and brittle!! Honestly, whenever I need a Chinese style birthday cake, I always end up coming to Sunny Bakery. For me, this is one of the go to spots in the SGV. Their cakes are the classic Chinese bakery style, light sponge cake layered with fruit and whipped cream. They make custom cakes in all different sizes and I think the pricing is pretty reasonable for what you get. Best of all, the cakes are fresh and not overly sweet, which is exactly how I like them. This time I ordered a quarter sheet chocolate cake with chocolate cream. It was really good, rich enough to taste like chocolate but not so sweet that it became overwhelming. Everyone at the party seemed to enjoy it. They also open at 8am which makes pickup convenient if you need a cake for an early event. I ordered a 6 inch durian cake in the shape of a durian to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday because she loves Durian. When I picked it up today it looked just as I had expected but I was surprised the durian aroma was not very strong. When we cut the cake a couple hours later , it was still hard and frozen inside ! Apart from the cream outside , the sponge and the durian was still frozen . We were so so disappointed with the quality of it. We were expecting a soft sponge cake with durian filling but what we got was a hard frozen cake . My 80 year old mom couldn't eat it because it was too hard for her teeth. This review is long overdue but I wanted to thank Sunny Bakery for creating a beautiful cake for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We were having a banquet at the Five Star Seafood restaurant in San Gabriel and I wanted to find a local bakery so that I didn't have to drive too far to pick up the cake. I know my mother in law always get us goodies from Sunny, and after reading some positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to reach out to them about ordering a cake. Most of the communication was done via text. I sent them a few pictures of what I had in mind, the filling of the cake (strawberry & mango), the date, time and location of the event. They sent me back a fairly quick response with the one that they could do along with pricing, which included delivery to Five Star Seafood restaurant- yay! Less work for me! Pricing was very reasonable compared to other bakeries I called. They actually responded to me when I was texting them late at night - like 9 pm, so I appreciate their responsiveness. They didn't ask for a deposit but wanted the whole cake paid for in advance. I was hesitant about that as I didn't want to get screwed if they didn't show up, and the lady said that I could pay it 2 days before the event via Zelle. Sunny has been around for a long time, and I figured they're legit, so I took my chances and paid them the entire amount 2 days before. The day of the event, I was worried because the cake didn't arrive at the stated time, but then again it could be a parking issue in the plaza...IYKYK. As I called the bakery for the ETA of the cake, the delivery guy showed up with cake in hand, and it looked great. Not exactly like what the picture was, but still pretty. I decorated it myself with flowers I purchased at TJ's. I had fun getting my parents to recreate their wedding photo of their cake cutting/feeding each other, and best of all the cake was delicious and enjoyed by everyone! read more

Look how cute our cake turned out! I asked for a cute 3 tier vintage wedding cake and she definitely delivered! I was looking around SGV for an affordable 3 tier wedding cake, and it seemed impossible to find one under $500, but I got this cake for under $300. I asked for 6x8x10 dimensions to serve about 50 people. We had it delivered at 5pm and cut the cake at 8:30pm. Although it was whipped cream instead of butter cream, the icing lasted hours at room temperature without melting. I ordered a mocha cake with chocolate icing and it was light, fluffy, and not too sweet, which was perfect! There's was also option to pay cash and free delivery (we had it delivered to 888 Seafood Restaurant not too far away). The topper I bought separately from Temu. Was hunting around for an Asian bakery that made cakes with a crispy phyllo layer and came across this spot. My parents were celebrating their 50th anniversary so we wanted to get them a special cake. They had option to text an order so I was able to do all my correspondence through that. They sent me a copy of their menu although it was a little overwhelming and confusing. I ended up going with a vanilla cake with strawberry custard and the crispy layers. I sent them some reference photos of the type of design that I was looking for. I was a little worried because they didn't ask for a deposit or even my name, they said it would just be by my phone number. On the day of pickup, I was holding my breath but it turned out great! My parents loved it and everyone thought it was beautiful. My complaint and what knocked a star off was the skimpy custard and strawberry layer. For the price (which I know was heavily because of the design) I did expect that to be a little more robust. The custard was so thin there was barely any or even strawberry. The crispy layers were good though. I think they do a great job on design and I love the variety of Asian flavors and options. I was put in charge of getting a birthday cake for a friend that absolutely loves pandan, so I searched all over the SGV for a place that had pandan cake. It was harder to find than I expected but I saw Sunny Bakery on a couple lists and decided to give it a try. They do special orders, or you can just walk in and they have stuff ready to go which is what I did. I got the 6" coconut green cake which easily fed my group of 8 and it was an absolute HIT. The coconut inside was soft and fresh, truly impressive work. The pandan flavor was fresh and light. We will definitely be getting more cakes from here in the future! My family has been coming here for many years and loves the mango cake and many different pastries. We came to pick up the mango cake to celebrate for my husband's bday. The mango cake is delicious and it's not overly sweet. I would recommend to give it a try. I was glad my husband loved it because he is picky on what he eats. I picked up some pastries for him to try such as pineapple bun and custard bun, which he end up loving it. It's in a plaza and parking can get a bit crowded. It's a small bakery located in a plaza, parking will be hard to find so be aware of rush hour for lunch. It may be a small shop but there is always something to try or grab to-go. I normally come here to get their cakes, especially the fruit tart cake one. It's so creamy and not too sweet. Would be best to call in to have the order ready because they could run out. They do offer Zelle so you may send it to them. If you want to pay card you will be charged a card fee and they try to ask for cash payments so they we can avoid paying extra fees. Came on a random weekday around noon. There was a lot of parking available in the plaza since there's not a lot of popular shops in there. The place smelled like some sort of cleaning agent or bleach. I'm not really sure but the smell was strong. Purchased a slice of durian cake and a couple of pastries. I ate them hours later but for some reason could sort of smell the cleaning product on the pastries? The cake was the only one that tasted okay. Maybe because it was the only one in the fridge when I purchased it. The durian cake was mostly cake and cream, had little bits of durian in the cream. A bit disappointed overall with my visit here. Parking: plenty of parking early in the morning. Ambiance: very simple mom and pop Asian bakery and starting to stock up pastries in the morning. Pastries: I called the previous day asking for a taro crispy cake to feed 4-5 people. Got the estimated cost $33. When I came in I saw the cake to be super small. I don't think this is sufficient to feed 4-5 people. A bit of a rip off and the sign shows extra charge for credit card and insist cash payment. Tried to appreciate this bakery from church recommendation but after three tries of mishaps of ordering personalized cake( once for my moms bday Mishap due to wrong flavor, my own bday where I ordered two cakes and never got the flavor I wanted, and for my dads bday with the smallest size ) I think I will take the service elsewhere. read more

What's up: Celebrating one of our scout's birthday. A phone order was placed in advance and we stopped by to pick up the birthday cake. Parking: Located in the small plaza on the corner of Valley Blvd and San Gabriel Blvd, parking can be a bit tough if it's busy. Some of the spots can be tight as well. Environment: Walking in, you'll see arrows on the floor that directs you around the bakery. It's a small and cozy store with baked items on the shelves. The refrigerated cake display is located further back while the check out counter is on the left (there's a sign that says "Pick up here". We told the staff member that we were picking up a phone order and also asked her to write "Happy Birthday" on the cake. What was ordered: - Fruit and Taro Cake (decently sweet) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay.
