Holy Pita bread, Batman! I cannot believe I've lived in Denton so long and have missed out on this family owned and operated gem! If you get the occasional craving for hummus and baba ghanoush then you simply must go in. Do not be dismayed at the humble strip mall that surrounds the small place. Go across the street to Kroger, get some wine as it is BYOB and peruse the pictures on Yelp so you can plot what all you're going to try. We ordered the Zatar bread, naan covered in fresh herbs, olive oil and feta. It was so good that we ordered another later in the meal. The Veggie Combo comes with the dips I mentioned above, some saffron rice, two homemade dolma and a single solitary falafel. I've only had homemade dolma once and it is soooooo good. You can tell fresh from the usual canned dolmas that most buffet places sling out. The hummus and baba g are the freshest and best I have ever had in my life. And, I've eaten A LOT of this stuff. Super lemony and garlicky and I loved it. My hubby ordered the lamb gyro plate with a side of tomato and raw onion. Delicious, small cut but oh so good. I went out on a limb and ordered beef mousakka, which reminded me of lasagna but instead of noodle, the layer was an eggplant and lots of cheese. Nothing remained on the table once we scarfed everything down with our friends. I hoarded the leftover rice to put in a soup but no scraps were left. The owner even came out and took a picture with our group. So, what are you waiting for? I seriously am thinking about that Zatar bread now and cannot WAIT to go back and try some new things! I've been here a couple of times since COVID started and both times the food has been phenomenal! The staff is great and very friendly! Also the atmosphere is unlike any other place I have been in Denton and was super relaxed and had a warm, at-home feeling. Not to mention the Zatar Bread was so delightful, it is pita bread with olive oil, oregano, and feta cheese! Also, both the Chicken Biryani and the Veggie combo were amazing as well and this place has numerous vegetarian/ vegan options to choose from! I will definitely continue going there! read more

Nice, homey, quiet and very good restaurant in Denton. The Mediterranean food was excellent, and the husband/wife team that cooks and serves are very nice. We had the BabaG, Zatar bread, lamb kabob, souvlaki, etc. and all were very good. And we enjoyed the baklava and cheese cake at the end. I've always enjoyed eating here but today will be the last time. Our food was fine, as usual but as I went to the register to pay out, I noticed a hand scribbled sign stating: If no gratuity is left, a 15% tip will be added. In other words, they have forced tipping. No matter how poor your service is, they are going to charge you an additional 15%. Rather than stealing from their customers, they should train their staff properly to ensure they receive adequate tips. But this is what happens when you have family members employing other family members-they make sure they're taken care of at the customers expense. And if you're thinking i'm some sort of a tightwad that doesn't tip, you're wrong. I typically tip at least 20% on decent service. read more

This was my first time coming here, and I honestly wish I had just made the drive over to Layalina's like my gut told me to. Oh well, lesson learned. I called in and placed my order over the phone. It should've been simple - falafel sandwich, sauce on the side, and baba ganoush. I asked the girl on the phone whether they had tahini sauce or tzadziki, and when she informed me they had both I asked for them on the side, since I was taking the food home and didn't want the sandwich to get soggy. She said it would be about 30 minutes (a bit long for a sandwich, but whatever). When I showed up I asked where the restrooms were, and as the girl led me to the back (you have to walk through the cramped kitchen to get to it), an older woman sitting in the dining area loudly asked her if I was a customer, to which she shook her head. The woman then watched me as I walked back, was still watching when I exited, and continued until I returned to the front. I'll pause here to say I eat out a lot, and at least 25% off those times it's Mediterranean food. I point that out to say I've got a pretty good idea of what to expect when I order, and usually pricing is pretty consistent across the board. When I got to the front to pay, the girl told me it would be $24. For a sandwich and baba ganoush (a pretty simple eggplant dip). We figured out that I had been charged for both baba ganoush and hummus (which I hadn't ordered), but even with that error aside, I was charged $10 for the sandwich and $8 for the dip, (nearly double what the other two Mediterranean restaurants in the area charge), but I don't mind paying for good food. The older woman from earlier came over (I believe she must be the owner) to see what was going on, as the girl was just so confused about the hummus. It turns out that even though she works at a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant, she doesn't know the difference between hummus and tahini. Taking the hummus off was an easy fix, but because she didn't recognize the names of the food that was being ordered, she failed to tell me that they don't have tahini, or that they were putting hummus on the sandwich. The woman kept going on about the quality of their food and how "different" they were than other Mediterranean spots, thinking I was set on the tahini, while I was just trying to explain that I simply wanted ANY sauces on the side to avoid sogginess. She wasn't getting it, and I was getting hungry and grumpy, so I just paid and left. Now's the fun part- the food really isn't even very good! The hummus (that I didn't want) was actually the best part but, as anticipated, it made my sandwich incredibly soggy. The woman spoke so much on the quality, but the pita was store bought (and dry), the falafel was poorly seasoned (and dry), the lettuce was wilted, the tzaziki had no cucumbers, I had one single onion slice, and the baba ganoush tasted like it had a little hummus or something mixed in to stretch it. All in all, the $18 I spent on lunch could've been better spent somewhere else, and in the future it will be. read more

This is hard because the food is really good. It was delicious and authentic. The closest I've gotten to Greek food this side of the ocean. However they couldn't do a basic substitution of Tabouleh for sautéed vegetables. They wouldn't sub the rice for sautéed vegetables either, and then I asked for the rice and tabouleh on the side. Annnnd I'm guessing you already know they didn't put it on the side. So it is definitely not low carb or allergen friendly. Service could be better- how hard is it to sub sides? It's a little off the beaten path, but don't let the humble strip mall location fool you; this charming restaurant has great food. Tonight we ordered Spanikopita and Baba Ghanoush to start. The Spanikopita came out warm and perfectly flaky. The Baba Ghanoush was some of the best I've ever tasted. The pita bread it was served with was fresh and tasty.
