I am really impressed with Greenbush Bar. I was extremely sad to find out that I lived by Regent and Mills for two whole years, yet never knew about this place. There is really no visible sign that indicates "Come in! We have great pizza!" All I ever saw was an old looking building with an Italian flag. It's okay though, I'm glad we have finally met. I started off with the "Last Word" gin martini. It offered a good punch and some tasty citrus notes. For the appetizer I had the prosciutto ham, goat cheese, and tomato crostini. This was THE BOMB. First of all, I love goat cheese. This appetizer took my love for goat cheese and converted it into an infatuation #goatcheesewillumarryme. My friend insisted that we order their specialty pizza. It was an oiled crust topped with Gorgonzola cheese, arugula, thick cut bacon, and tomatoes. The bacon's smokiness was great. This pizza had a perfectly thin and crispy crust. Last, we finished with dessert and ordered three mini cannolis, which were heavenly. I really had a great time here. The food was delicious, and the feel was cozy and rustic. I also felt like I was part of a MEMBERS ONLY CLUB. By the way, if you aren't 21 you need to come to this place with a parent or legal guardian (according to a sign that they have near the entrance). The food was EXCELLENT!! The antipasto platter was great, and then we had a pizza with Italian sausage and artichoke hearts. All the food was really really good. The wine we ordered was also great. I agree with some of the other reviewers, the acoustics did suck, at least with the place packed as it was when we were there. But the food was good enough to make up for the fact that I could barely hear my date, yet somehow I could hear every word of the inane, ridiculous, idiot conversation at the table next to us. The table next to us, by the way, was **VERY** close to us, almost uncomfortably close, but then again, I have personal space issues. Then again, we did go on a Friday night at prime time. I know for sure that they wouldn't take reservations then, but that may only be because it's their busiest time. I thought the prices were reasonable! I don't understand why people are criticizing the prices or saying their meal wasn't good enough for what it cost. I didn't think the prices were exorbitant or unjustified for the quality of the food/service, and I'm usually really conscious of those things. Excellent Pizza and the restaurant/bar has a very fun "parents basement" vibe. We had two pizzas - one with the pesto sauce, and one with red sauce. Both with homemade sausage, as well as a variety veggies. Both were excellent. Crust was crisp and flavorful. read more

Thin crust pizza was so delicious. The crust is the type with cornmeal. My favorite! We also ordered the imported antipasto appetizer. The meats were authentic Italian meats. Made me feel like I was back in Chicago. The Italian salami, prosciutto, mortadella, cheeses, marinated artichokes, and olives were divine! Bread was perfect with the platter. Well, what is to like. You really can't ask too much from the staff as they are your typical college student fare. Food is below average for the price. Getting anything but pizza is sure to disappoint, but even that seems to be slipping. If you come be prepared to sit in a small loud room and be crowded near your neighboring tables. Most dishes consist of heavy sauces that could be made better at home by something out of a can. Over cooked pasta and bland city from there. Maybe they are catering to the American palate? I love Greenbush. Lovelovelove it. The pizza is fantastic, the bruchettas are all tasty, the tiramisu inspires me to... go to Greenbush for more tiramisu. Only two drawbacks- the pastas are mediocre and the wait could be long on a Friday. But the rest of the food and wine list are so great, that I'm still giving the 5 star. Even if you don't want a whole meal, pull up a barstool, order a glass of wine and bruchetta, and all is right with the world. read more

I was excited to come to this restaurant as I'd heard great things from friends, however, I was disappointed in pretty much every way. The woman who was seating my group was immediately rude and pushy. I was seated at the end of the table where I could not hear anything people were saying. When I tried to move the woman who seated us made me move back, despite the fact that the waiter kept running into my chair. Despite this uncomfortable start, I was still looking forward to some good Italian food. This was also not to be. My dish, and the dishes my friends let me sample off their plates, were bland. Finally, I can't say I liked the atmosphere. Maybe it was the rude woman that welcomed us, the waiter that kept running into me, or the fact that it was dark and loud, but I found nothing special about this place. read more

I give it a 2-star because of unaccomodating and rude service. I left before trying the food. I'm standing there with my 9-month old baby waiting to be seated. Well this place won't seat you until your *entire* party is present. So we had 6 of us there and were waiting for 2 more and we couldn't sit at the table...all standing around waiting. We were here on a Friday and for a change it wasn't so crowed. The bar was pleasant and the atmosphere like it always is tight tables and noisy. This was made worse by some music playing somewhere that you could just hear enough of to make it annoying. Our Caesar salads looked beautiful with grated cheese and fresh Romain but were totally tasteless. On comparing our notes later we think that the dressing was forgotten somehow. Who could do that? I had a meatball sub that was similar. Looked great but missed the mark. The other meals were just ok. I never have really good food here but we like the place so much we go anyway. I think that's how the place survives. My buddies said the pizza was good so maybe I will try it next time. Our waitress was very good but wasn't around for the salad complains. We ate the bowls of lettuce and said nothing. Thinking back I should have but at the time I thought it was just my salad. Oh well. read more

Love this place! This is a slightly wacky old - school Italian place. Yes, it's in the basement, and yes, you'll pass the bathroom as you make your way down the stairs. The dining room has a low ceiling and year-round Christmas lights. They don't take reservations, I don't think, and it can get crowded so coming at an off time is a good idea. The salads and vegetarian antipasto are delicious; for some reason there's a small portion of pesto pasta on the vegetarian antipasto.The true specialty here, and what most people seem to be ordering, is the pizza. It's extremely thin crust with a lot of cornmeal so it has a real chewy crunchy texture. Toppings are fresh and delicious. Save room for homemade desserts if you can. This is one of my husband and my favorite restaurants! The low-ceiling, basement dining room is incredibly romantic, yet casual. It has an unassuming, "speakeasy" feel without being kitschy. The pizzas are excellent- thin, crispy crust and excellent toppings. The roasted garlic bulb with warm peasant bread and antipasto salad are a couple favorites.
