We went to a few wineries in the area and this was the most elevated in my opinion. The wine and food was great (loved the fresh baked focaccia). The patio was gorgeous and super comfortable, great big umbrellas for shade. I liked their prosecco best!

This place is child free and gorgeous visually, providing view of the rolling Virginia hills in a quiet setting. We came in on a Saturday and it was fairly busy but had live music going. We sat upstairs and did the wine tasting for the table, however it got busy and we ended up having to come in to get 4/6 of the wines. That was fine just wish they had just told us when we stopped in after the first time it may be easier to just do the full tasting at the bar instead of expectations of them coming out. The Chardonnay and light colored rose was nice, as well as some of their reds. They do not allow outdoor food and have some small bites you can order. Will certainly be back.

BLUF: Not bad, but there are more welcoming vineyards in the area. Went back with a group on a Saturday afternoon. This was my third visit. One thing that hasn't changed is that the staff is very controlling, and pretty focused on corralling people into where they want them to be. For example, we were told we had to leave the room we were in because they had a live band that was going to play and that band attracts a lot of "groupies" so they wanted the space. Well, there were LOTS of tables open the entire time that band played. There were other examples, but let's just say they don' t make it easy to like being there. The actual people serving the wine were wonderful, but those running the place could be a lot more accommodating considering it was a miserable cold and wet day and we brought in people who bought plenty of wine and food. The wine itself is okay. Nobody raved about it. I will say they had a blended red that is about the only red wine I've ever liked. If you're not a red wine liker/lover, ask to try it. I sadly can't recall the name, but they will know if you ask.

Beautiful dwelling with two floors of glass walled tasting & dining rooms! The Staff were nice and welcoming! Property is set on a higher ground overlooking the lush green landscape and which allowed a backdrop for wedding venue. During this visit on Saturday April 13, our friends Dr. Rob(chiro) and Elizabeth invited us here-they are members here(and I, at Fleetwood). As for the wines, I've only had the reds the few times I visited here and they were okay, needed more time to mature in my opinion. $50 for a bottle of cab franc or $40 if you're a member, which makes it comparable to other vineyards in the area. Almost forgot that our quarterly wine pick up in the winery i'm a member renders about the same but taste wise way better! Place serves a redeeming great brie and bread which I like so that makes it easier to enjoy the wine. Important to note that I appreciate about 50 West is the friendly easy going but great ambience also extended to man's best friend so how can it go wrong? My beautiful blue eyed Border Collie/Aussie will be joining us next time for sure that the weather is more agreeable-he has great manners so don't fret!Worth a visit! Hi

We stopped by 50 West Vineyards on our way back from a hike. The space was open with beautiful outdoor seating areas. We tried the tasting menu which reasonably priced. It was done by the bar and was guided by the sweetest staff member. After our tasting menu, we grabbed a glass of our fav wines and a small bite indoors to avoid the bugs. Food was great, the ciabatta bread and Camembert were warm and delicious. I would skip the spread next time though. We stepped outside to enjoy the wonderful views afterwards and enjoyed our time there.

This is the first visit since a couple of visits in the early days of 50 West. The Aldie/Middleburg area is beautiful so you will get great, pleasant views. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The tastings were great, and it made it easy to pick our wine for the day, the Rose of Sangiovese. Being a bit hungry, I asked for a few suggestions and ordered a few things. Every item was presented well and tasted great. I strongly recommend the summer bruschetta board.

I appreciate a winery that is adults-only. Nothing against kids (I have 4). The staff is always very friendly and attentive and they have a decent wine selection. Beautiful hillside location off Route 50 west!

Sexy Boujee Winos (SBW) Our recent tour on February 9th was an absolute delight, as we were graciously hosted by two exceptional wineries Our destination was the stunning 50 West Vineyard. I was thrilled to return and show SBW the new tasting room. Katie, the owner, was a delight to collaborate with and enthusiastic about hosting us. Natalie weingardt was in charge of our guided tasting of 6 wines and was informative and very knowledgeable. Kelly Gilfillan was also eager to help and provided excellent service. The wines and service at 50 West were absolutely incredible, and the overall experience they provided was truly outstanding. The new tasting room is absolutely stunning and adds to the overall ambiance of the winery. *My favorite wines were the Viognier, AShby Gap, and the Merlot . A huge thank you is in order for 50 west for providing such a wonderful experience. I highly recommend visiting as it offers something truly special that you won't want to miss out on!

Service drives the 5 stars of this review! Not all wineries are created equal, some might have good wine but don't understand customer service....50 West Vineyards has BOTH. The minute we stepped into the tasting room we were greeted with a warm welcome and this continued through out our visit. Tasting bar staff were personable and knowledgeable You can taste at the bar or take a flight, glass or bottle to a table inside or outside on their beautiful grounds. Nice variety of wines, most made in French style. Gorgeous grounds. Note: 2019 Ashby Gap was the 2022 Gold medal winner at the VA Governors Cup and the VA Governors Case Winner

If you are looking for the best vineyard in Middleburg, look no further - 50 West is the one. Great views, great customer service, and even better wine! I went with girlfriends on a Saturday afternoon and we just sat on the peaceful outdoor patio. We started off with the wine slushies - frosé and strawberry pineapple. I enjoyed the frosé the most - it was refreshing and not too sweet. Each wine I tried on the sparking flight and white flight was delicious. I'm not usually a fan of Chardonnay but theirs made me want to buy a bottle to savor the taste and enjoy from home. Tasted the Viognier and Petit Manseng, and had to get both! I heard they have live music on Friday nights and on weekends. I wish they had pizza on the menu but they do allow you to bring your own food if that's what you have a taste for. Thank you Miles for making sure we had a good experience.

The wine here was delicious. There was a great variety, family friendly, pet friendly, great service, beautiful space! I would def come back here there was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors and the staff was very welcoming!

Unknowingly came on the "grand opening" weekend. Greeter was wonderful! We got lucky and had a guy do our tasting that was funny and provided a lot of wine knowledge. He lead us to two wines we loved. We then found two chairs on the patio with a spectacular view. It was a wonderful experience!

First, a shoutout to our wine server, Hannah, who was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the wines without ever making us feel like we needed a sommelier certification to enjoy them. She guided us through the $20 tasting, which included a wonderful mix of whites and reds. It worked out perfectly because I'm a white wine fan while my husband prefers reds, so naturally we shared every pour and declared ourselves a two-person tasting committee. Now let's talk about the food. The truffle popcorn should probably come with a warning label because it is highly addictive. We kept saying "just one more handful" until the bowl mysteriously emptied itself. The fresh baguette with pimento dip was equally delicious and paired beautifully with the wines. The winery offers plenty of seating options, whether you prefer lounging on the grass, relaxing indoors, or enjoying the covered patio. We chose the covered patio, which provided the perfect balance of fresh air, vineyard views, and shade. And yes, I'm actually going to mention the bathrooms. They were some of the nicest winery restrooms I've encountered--modern, spotless, stylish, and clearly well-maintained. It's one of those little details that says a lot about the overall experience. Great wine, delicious food, beautiful setting, immaculate facilities, and outstanding service from Hannah. Greenhill Vineyards has earned every one of these five stars. We'll definitely be back for another "research trip" in the near future.

We came here first before heading to brunch and a second winery, and honestly, it set the tone for the entire day. The grounds are absolutely beautiful--peaceful, scenic, and everything you want when you're trying to escape the city for a bit. The wine selection is solid, and everything we tried was smooth, well-balanced, and easy to enjoy with friends. It's the kind of place where you can actually relax, take your time, and be present. What I love most about Greenhill is the vibe--it feels elevated without being pretentious. Just good wine, great views, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer. If you're planning a Middleburg wine day, start here. You won't regret it.

The review does not reflect the fact I did not get to try their wine, but rather the way I was treated when I attempted to plan a trip to visit the "right" way** We were driving past this spot on a nice Sunday, coming home from a family lunch, and thought why not stop in? I did not have a reservation because (as mentioned above) I wasn't aware of needing one and I wasnt sure when I would be able to stop in as I was just passing by (we live 1+ hour away). As we pulled into the long dirt road, the front gates have no clear sign that says 'By Appointment Only' - perhaps a good add before your clients drive up a steep unpaved road to just be turned away. None of the vines appeared to be in use so the drive up may be more beautiful one day when the grapes are on the vines. The parking lot is a bit cramped and full of fancy cars, giving us a taste of the type of clientele that would be inside. We came in and I inquired if I could do a wine tasting. The staff member told us we needed a reservation but that he would do his best to try to see if they had space - totally fine. My mistake again- I did not realize that this winery required reservations (no other winery I have been to in Charlottesville, Middleburg, or NOVA has done so) so my first assumption wasn't that I needed a reservation. Again, no sign at the front that says this and would have saved me time. The space was obviously gorgeous, the views spectacular and it felt very Napa and upscale. The staff member returned back and told us they couldn't accommodate us- ok, disappointing but ultimately is what it is. I asked the two staff members standing there how early they recommend making reservations, as we dont live in the area so I need to plan ahead. They told me it was hard to tell but that basically any time it's warm, it will be hard to get a reservation and that "Saturday visits are a pipe dream" and Sundays are "pretty impossible too". They then kindly told me "you could try to snag a reservation maybe a Thursday or Friday". Mind you, their hours are 12-5 on Thursday/Friday...I live an hour plus away, let alone with traffic. I guess my only options are to take off work to come visit as it seems there will be no chance for me to ever get a reservation for 2 on the weekends.... Needless to say, it felt like the staff really could care less for our future business and we politely left. The staff did not offer to help us book a future reservation or anything of that nature - just a snooty response that I probably shouldn't bother every attempting to return on a weekend. Hilarious enough, I decided to look up their website and low and behold - they had tasting reservations that same day at 3 PM (45 minutes after we first asked about a tasting) - no offer to us to wait or come back to return, just basically turned away. Cherry on top- they have tons of reservations open for future Saturdays and Sunday. If you don't want my business, you dont have to tell me twice. If I want to deal with pretentious folks, I'll fly to Napa and drink wine actually grown onsite.

Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing winery visits I've ever had. What started as a small group of four gradually grew as friends and family who were already wine tasting in the area stopped by to say hello and join us. Once management expressed concern about the group size, we immediately offered to separate into smaller groups and fully complied when asked to move outside. Despite this, the manager, Don, repeatedly threatened to remove us from the property and later doubled down on those comments when I spoke with him privately away from the group. What made the situation especially frustrating was that the property and indoor seating areas were largely empty at the time. We had already purchased multiple bottles of wine, people in our group were continuing to buy food and drinks, and there were several open tables available. The interaction felt unnecessarily hostile and disproportionate to the situation. Even more confusing, during my private conversation with Don, he mentioned there was a higher-priced option available for larger groups -- but this was never offered to us beforehand. Had that been communicated respectfully, we could have made an informed decision. Instead, the approach was confrontational from the start. Unfortunately, the poor experience extended beyond the seating issue. Early in the visit, when we asked staff basic questions about the wines and the property, the responses were dismissive and uninformed. One employee repeatedly told us "I don't know" when we asked about the wines, the grapes grown on-site, and even what was being served in the frozen wine machine. Part of the joy of visiting wineries, for me, is learning about the wines and engaging with staff who are passionate about the experience, and that hospitality was completely absent here. There are many wonderful wineries in the area that make guests feel welcomed and valued. Sadly, this was not one of them. We left feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and disappointed after what should have been a celebratory afternoon.

I love that there are several options for seating. Past reviews led me to believe it is all open air, but there is a small seating space inside the tasting barn where the bar is. Granted, it still has open airflow, but can be mostly closed in during inclement weather. There are also two lawns with a hard separation--one for families and an adults-only space, which seems like a good way to be inclusive of both families and adults who are tired of children running wild at wineries/breweries. The wines were delicious, and of the ones we sampled the Cab Franc was excellent. I did like the Viognier, but it was a little too mild-flavored for me.

Had a great Sunday at Old Farm Winery at Hartland. Came here with a group of friends on a windy…read moreSunday in November. The property is nice and has multiple outdoor seating areas. They had one marked for families and one for adults. And it is indeed dog friendly. There was plenty of space for dogs outside with a pet station. The day we went it was very windy so we headed straight inside. The tasting area is open and they have clear covers on the openings to keep the warmth from the heaters in and all the crazy wind and cold out. We opted to do a tasting and Emma assisted us. We did the traditional tasting and were able to try three reds and three whites. It seems like there was something to everyone because folks had different favorites. Emma talked us throihh each selection and happily answered all our questions about wine. After our tasting we were hungry and decided to get two pizzas and some dips. I also tried their cider which was yummy. The pizza was good, we had the mushroom flatbread and pepperoni pizza. Both were yummy or we were really tipsy lol! The icing on top of the experience was the live music. There was a musician singing and playing the guitar that really set the mood. We sat down inside, sipper our drinks, ate our food and played games. Hope to come back with the dogs in warmer weather.

This was an extremely busy day. Everyone had the same idea because it was nice outside. The service was also pretty good for how busy it was. The staff was so nice!! All very knowledgeable about the wine and even let me sample some of the wine (Petit Manseng and Port) that wasn't on their menu and that I could only buy a bottle of. They had my favorite wine (Petit Manseng) but somehow I ended up loving the 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. I even ordered a glass of it after my tasting. It was light, smooth, and had a hit of guava taste to it. Very refreshing. Loved my pizza too! I was stuck between getting a pizza or their smash burger, but happy I chose the pizza. The brownie I got was pretty good too and apparently it was gluten free. The property is pet family friendly. I think the 21+ side looks the best and has better views as well.

Loved all the greenery and they had lots of indoor and outdoor seating. When we first arrive we were a little confused on how things operated. There was no one to greet us at the entrance, so we had asked an employee who let us know we could wine taste at the bar and sit anywhere. We ordered from scanning the QR menu and placing the order on our phones. This place was pretty much a self service which gave a nice and chill vibe. We ordered a bottle of the 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve. It was light, crisp and smooth which is what we were looking for. The food came out quickly too. We really enjoyed the crab dip! I ordered the steak frites as well. The fries were good but the steak was just okay in my opinion. Overall, the service was quick, the views were great, and we would definitely be back again to try more wine :)
