I had been shopping around for hardwoods for a while, trying to educate myself on the web about green products and checking out selections at various retailers in town, but when I found what I thought I wanted at a competitor I was so frustrated by the lack of help that I couldn't bring myself to give them my business. I showed up a few saturdays ago as they were closing (though I didn't realize it was closing time). It took a minute to get anyone's attention when I did, I asked fir a price quote for new kitchen countertops in their papers-tone line, I was asked to write down my info and someone would get back to me. I asked when that would be and the person said they weren't sure. I advised I was leaving the country a few days later and wanted to make a decision, and place order before I left, and I was told " they would try@. While the whole experience was already off putting due to poor customer service coming from snarky attitudes, I was interested In the product line so still willing to buy from them. We were shopping for cork flooring for our guest bathroom. We had been to several local DIY and flooring stores and finally settled on the brand and pattern (FYI, it was Wicanders Xtreme WRT Cork Plank in Chestnut). We got a price from a flooring store and thought we had a good deal -- the square foot price was good and since we were buying local we wouldn't have to pay any shipping charges (we would pick it up in the store). But, I wanted to go back to the internet and do a quick comparison shopping before we committed to purchasing. I did a search for the Wicanders flooring and I started going down the list of websites. A couple of sites had better prices than the local store, so I was pleased that I decided to wait on the purchase. However, these vendors had minimum freight charges that were outrageous -- $250?!?! We were only doing a small 8x10 bathroom which amounted to two boxes of flooring. The freight was more than the material!! I almost gave up my internet search when I found Greenhome Solutions. Their prices were the best I had found anywhere, but I was still skeptical about the freight charges. Their website said to "call for quote". I don't like to call internet vendors since you usually don't know where your call ends up. But I couldn't beat the price, so I had to give it a shot. My call was answered by Cameron Reith. He was very friendly and soft-spoken, knowledgeable and helpful, and not at all a "salesman". After quoting me for the flooring, it came down to the question of freight. He said that they didn't have a minimum order policy and that with my small order, it would be most cost-effective to ship it UPS! Not by freight carrier, drop-ship like the others. And, INCLUDING the shipping, their price ended up lower than the local store's price for the same product!! I subsequently called Cameron to see what he had to offer in wood countertop materials. He did some research on a few options and called me back with his findings. However, in this case, the freight to ship the countertop to California would not have been as economical and we had to pass on that idea. However, if we had been living in the Seattle area, I would have purchased it from them in a heartbeat!! Greenhome Solutions came up as a vendor that sold this brand. read more

The customer service here is some of the worse I've encountered. We bought countertops and weren't informed that there would be 4 different companies involved: Greenhome, the countertop source, the countertop cutter, and the installer. The countertop cutter messed up our order, and it's something that Greenhome could have caught. A staff member even said it raised a "red flag" but he never picked up the phone to check with us or our contractor. Ultimately, they wouldn't take accountability and moved at a snails pace to rectify the situation. After being pushed out and pushed out on a timeline, it required multiple angry phone calls to Greenhome for them to act and try to get the other companies in line to deliver on a countertop in a timely fashion (the impact has pushed out a number of our own subs and extended our kitchen remodel by nearly a month). They've had an "it's not my problem" attitude throughout the process. I personally sent two emails asking for explanations and never received replies. Don't waste your time and money. Pay a little more to get some responsiveness and someone who'll work with you. read more

My wife and I are completing a kitchen remodel that my wife designed. She needed a countertop material that would blend with the various different colors and textures in the kitchen. We'd searched several stores already, but found Greenhome solutions had the largest selection. Even better for us was their Novustone counters. Not only is it a green product, but we were able to pick the material colors to meet our needs. They also carry a huge selection of reclaimed timber for flooring and architectural work. I went with another vendor after a slow and frustrating experience with Greenhome. Following a basement flood and carpet extraction, I asked their staff on a Saturday to get the process started to install new floor. I was told I was "on the list". When I didn't hear from them by end of day Monday, I called them. The staffer who answered tried to make it sound like I was being completely unreasonable expecting a call back the next business day. The coordinator doesn't work on Mondays, he said. When I expressed hope for a call on Tuesday, he pushed back and said she had so very much to do (oh, it must be terrible), that it would likely be Wednesday or Thursday before I was contacted. All this, just to schedule someone to come out and measure the job?! On Wednesday afternoon, not having heard anything, I called again, and the coordinator refused to get on the phone with me. She proceeded to ping me on email back and forth for over an hour, explaining that she couldn't possibly get anyone out to my house until the following week. So much time wasted for a conversation that would have taken 2 minutes over the phone and really should have been done on my first visit the prior Saturday. At this point, I ended up getting two other vendors to bid the job much quicker (all 3 actually came out the same day, despite the later start). Then, it took multiple days for Greenhome to turn the bid around. I guess math is hard!? I had the other two bids well in hand before Greenhome deigned to send me theirs. And then, Greenhome's bid came in way higher than the other two -- of the three estimators who saw the floor, only Greenhome wanted to charge me an extra $1,000 to do additional leveling. To my eyes, the floor is plenty level already, and neither of the other bidders tried to pull the stunt Greenhome did of charging me an extra thou. They seem to think they're so "green" and "fabulous" that they can move slow as molasses and overcharge people. Not me, jerks. Your products are nice, but your customer service sucks. I'll never step foot in your store again. read more

I went here first because it was convenient, but returned because of the service and the competitive pricing. Over the past couple years we've asked a zillion questions, borrowed samples, asked more questions. . .Everyone there is helpful, knowledgeable and patient. The stock is well chosen and beautiful, yet functional. Every time I go in I ooh and aah over something. They have a good selection of all sorts of materials. Where else can you test out the tile / flooring / carpet / cabinet / countertop choices by putting them down next to each other? My only complaint: this close to the Ship Canal trail, and no bike rack. . . but that's easily fixed. read more

I live at the opposite end of the country and could not find a better place to do business with for my Wicanders cork flooring. Not only did they work with me on shipping costs and delivery, but the cork arrived quickly and completely undamaged. Even the freight forwarder they used was helpful in unloading the cork.
