Again, yesterday, a door-to-door salesman from Greenshield showed up at my door. This is the third time since June. Telling them "no" seems to make no difference. This was a 50-ish male who really likes to talk and doesn't take "no" easily. He's also amazingly good at evading a question and not giving straight answers. Example: he claims they give a guarantee for the life of the house. Remember, they're supposedly only doing "free energy audits" so you have to wonder why he's so willing to talk about guaranteeing work done. When I pointed out to him that a house here might have a lifetime of 100 - 150 years, he tried to change the subject. When I asked him repeatedly if the guarantee was transferable to new owners, he evaded the question over and over again, trying to change the subject. When they were first here in June, I spent the time to do online investigation of the company and it's a bit worrisome and convoluted. Their website prominently displays license number #530223. Checking with California's contractor licensing board at https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/checklicense.aspx reveals several troubling things about that license. 1. The license is registered to "C&T Construction." 2. Business is claimed as a sole proprietorship with *no* employees and, therefore, *no* workers' compensation insurance. 3. Business owner is listed as Charles Arthur Husk, listed as residing in Pacifica, CA. 4. Business license address is 3868 STUEBEN CT, FREMONT, CA 94538 5. Googling the phone number listed (510.928.6360, not the same as Greenshield) with that business brings up a business address in Oakland, CA. - So, three different addresses. Notes and additional information on C&T Construction: I called the phone number and spoke to Charles "Chuck" Husk. I asked him how many employees he has and he said "three." I told him why I was asking (workers' comp insurance) and he said because the employees are his sons, they don't count for workers' comp. [I simply don't know the laws on that regarding relatives but do know that it's very risky to hire a company without workers' comp insurance on its employees. An injury suffered on your property becomes your responsibility if the worker is not covered by his/her employer's workers' comp.] - Mr. Husk says he does all the installation work for Greenshield. Note that Greenshield purports to only be doing "Free Energy Audits" and their solicitor dodged my question about what they were selling. Obviously, their purpose is to sell insulation, etc., and I assumed that but would much prefer a straight answer to my question. Also of note, Mr. Husk was speaking to me from Texas (cell phone). He said he's been there for about two weeks doing work for relatives. What that reveals is that Greenshield has obviously had no work scheduled for him during that entire two-week period. **Greenshield should not be displaying C&T Construction's license number as their own.** The Better Business Bureau, a service that has become increasingly irrelevant and uninformative, has very little information on Greenshield. Address listed in San Jose matches the business card. Record exists since 8/16/2011 *Principal - Ahmad Baballah* I also found mention elsewhere of a "Greenshield" with a Morgan Hill address but now that license number shows "inactive"; not authorized to do business. Note: I asked Mr. Husk about the name, Ahmad Baballah, and who owns Greenshield. He said there are three owners: "Ahmad, Sam, and Abraham." Because I'd also checked Ahmad Baballah's Facebook page, I asked Mr. Husk how old Mr. Baballah is. Mr. Husk says he'd estimate him at about 24 years old. That fits with the impression I got from the FB page. Summary: Greenshield has no track record of its own and they're prominently displaying someone else's license number on their website. http://mygreenshield.com/ It seems to me that it would be far wiser to do business with an established company that's more likely to be in business next year if problems arise. I suspect they have little or no assets if a liability situation were to arise. There are legitimate energy audit companies that charge for their audits because they do not sell products or services beyond the audit which theoretically makes their reports more reliable as they do not have a vested interest in the outcome of the audit. This is consistent with the CA code http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=bpc&group=07001-08000&file=7195-7199. Section 7197 states: (a) It is an unfair business practice for a home inspector, a company that employs the inspector, or a company that is controlled by a company that also has a financial interest in a company employing a home inspector, to do any of the following: (1) To perform or offer to perform, for an additional fee, any repairs to a structure on which the inspector, or the inspector's company, has prepared a home inspection report in the past 12 months. read more

We used Greenshield some time back (before the Sept 2012 reviews on Yelp), believing that they were an approved contractor/rater of the Energy Upgrade California program (they aren't; see: https://energyupgradeca.org/euc_approved_contractors). They came and did an energy audit of our home, which was marginally useful (I followed them the entire time), and then gave us a sales pitch on their radiant barrier insulation product, which we declined. We asked them to leave their written quote, which they refused to do. As Randy R.'s research and the Energy Upgrade California website indicates (see: https://energyupgradeca.org/news/phony_telemarketing_calls-3558), Greenshield is one of many companies using "energy audits" as a pretext to make sales pitches for installing insulation or other products. Greenshield seems to have removed the questionable state contractor's license number from their website that Randy R. noted, but the website itself is in disrepair (several links are broken, and some of the pages don't load properly), and I have little doubt that they're still up to the same old tricks. read more

Response for quote is fast, scheduled estimation, and they showed up on time. Price is about the same with other contractor after promotion. Signed contract with them and scheduled installation weeks later. Great team, show up on time and did GREAT job, no problem at all. Definitely recommend. read more

My wife and I used ahmad to insulate our walls and attic. I can't recommend Ahmad and his team enough. They are professional, courteous, and punctual. They were also willing to work with our schedule, and separate our insulation project out into two phases. It was much better to have them blow in the insulation from the inside of the house. Dry wall is much easier to patch that stucco & water barrier. Ahmad was my salesman and he even came to the house before the work men to help me take the TV's down. Then he showed up when they were finishing up to help me put them back up. The workers were very respectful of my hardwood floors and furnishings, and especially to me. Before the wall insulation I would touch the wall & it would be hot! We purchased our home a year ago and discovered that we had ZERO insulation in the attic. I contacted 5 companies to obtain quotes and Greenshield had the most responsive customer service - calling me within hours on my email. They sent Ahmad out to meet with me, inspect and measure my space and prepare a quote. He was very helpful, answered all my questions and explained my options, and even suggested a rebate program that would help to off-set the cost. We opted to proceed with HVAC sealing and insulation installation. I had to wait a few weeks for the installation but it was worth it - the crew was professional, cleaned up after themselves, and installed 4 different types of insulation (this wasn't just some "blow & go" quicky job) based on the needs of my attic space. I could feel the difference immediately and my PG&E bills are 60% less. In the end, we paid a little more going with Greenshield but I feel it was worth it. Best of all, they conducted a test-in & test-out process to demonstrate the improvements made by the insulation installation (also necessary to apply for the rebate) If you can be patient waiting for an installation date, I would highly recommend this company! read more

We had blown-in insulation in our attic that was rat infested and probably came with the original construction in the 1950's. Got 3 bids and researched doing it ourselves. Went with Greenshield, the medium bid, and we are super SATISFIED with everything: the consultation/responsiveness, the work, and the crew. They vacuumed out a huge truck-load of rodent-contaminated old insulation (yuck!), disinfected, sealed everything to reduce heat loss, and rolled out much better (higher R-factor) insulation all in one day. They were nice guys, tidy and cleaned up before they left. Usually the house is 10 degrees different from outside in the am before we turn the heat on, today it's 30 degrees different! We hired Greenshiled to put in wall insulation and attic insulation this summer and the team did a fantastic job. Ahmad is the manager and he is extremely nice to work with and he has been very patient to answer our questions. Ahmad helped us out with the PG&E BayRen rebate which covered about a third of the total cost, and the cost is competitive with the quotes we got from other big name companies. I highly recommend GreenShield! I had to find a new company to finish my insulation project as I had to fire Attic City for their terrible rodent proofing and poor customer service. I explained my situation to Ahmad and he quickly put my mind at ease. Rather than write about their excellent work and professional service, which many have already positively reviewed, I'd like to share how awesome their team of installers is. Dave and Parker arrived on-time, were very careful about protecting furniture and common areas, and were just plain awesome people! They were so friendly and patient with my kids (ages 5 and 8), who were at home the entire time they did their work, due to distance learning. Dave and Parker didn't mind all of their curious questions and patiently explained everything to them, from showing how the insulation gets fed into the blower (safely keeping them at a distance while doing so) to explaining how they are essentially "putting a big blanket on top of our house" to keep us warm over the winter. The best part was when my kids shared their favorite song (Mic Drop by BTS) with Dave and Parker, they ended up singing and dancing along with them. Ahmad and his team (Parker and Dave who did the install) are super professional, down to earth, respectful and did an excellent job on our attic insulation. We actually had 2 other co's come out and quote prior to speaking w Ahmad. Both prior to Greenshield were bad experiences, one didn't want the job since "he didn't do anything less than $3k" the other quoted over $6K and super pressured my husband- RED Flag! My husband connected w Ahmad (the owner) he came out personally and quoted the job on the spot. Super reasonable and worked with us due to COVID19 and loss of our job and business. It gets better, there's a PGE rebate and THEY do all the paperwork as well! I had both air seal and insulation replaced through Greenshield. From the estimate to the completion of project, Ahmad exhibited professionalism, good organization, and taking time to address every concern I had. Due to a challenging situation which BayREN consultant had a concern, Ahmad contacted BayREN to discuss the best way to stop any air gap. He also made a special trip to double check this requirement. My home is much more comfortable as a result. I can live without AC even above 90F. His crew are courteous and easy to work with, taking care to tape all corners. Greenshield did my attic and basement insulation June of 2020, their workmanship was tiptop, they beat all the quotes I got from other companies, they work with PG&E to give me rebates, the owner and team are full of amazing people that are not only courteous, professional, but also do incredible work. I had a new furnace and air-conditioning put in after the insulation was installed and the owner made sure to come by afterwards and touch up any areas in need. What a great job they did and the outcome has been outstanding! We purchased a 2-story home in San Jose 3 years ago and as soon as the weather turned a little warm the upstairs was at least as hot as it was outside or hotter. My initial thought was to work with my HVAC company, and they installed 2 attic fans and an inline blower in the furnace to force more air flow upstairs but that did not help with the heat. Then after getting a "not an option" quote of $15,000 to install a second system upstairs, I started looking into being proactive to the heat and not reactive.... which lead me to Greenshield. Ahmed was very knowledgeable on the issues I was having, and helped me understand how adding radiant barrier and/or insulation would help me control the heat in the attic. I chose to do both and what a fabulous job they did! And the outcome even better!. The cost was comparable with other quote. Greenshield's owner Ahmad and employees understand the advanced principles of insulation for energy efficiency: detailed air sealing of attic floors and crawl spaces, installing baffles, and sealing "top hats" over recessed lighting and in-ceiling speakers, as well as installing insulation. I had done some research on this service and then my wife handed me a sheet from a home magazine. I gave Greenshield a call and a couple of days later Ahmad came and talked to us about what they could do. I started out thinking this would be expensive but felt it needed to be done anyhow. Ahmad took a look in our attic and then we talked about cost and when it could be done. Ahmad was friendly and not at all 'sales guy'...just down to earth, knowledgable and honest. The price was less than I anticipated and my wife and I looked at each other with looks of approval. We signed the contract and were scheduled for the work with in a week, and this was all during the Christmas and New Years holidays. Abraham and his crew came and did a fantastic job of cleaning up the old insulation in the attic which was a hideous mess; with rodent nests and droppings and the original 68 year old matted junky insulation doing no good but making nests for the critters. You can imagine the feeling of living under the mess that was above our heads. They also include in their service, sealing up penetrations in the ceiling and around lights and wall junctions; including any observed holes where rodents could get in. They went way above my expectations by sealing off some holes in the garage attachment where mice and rats had been gaining access to the ceiling of the main house. Not only do they clean your attic, but take sincere care to insure all is well up there; and also went to the trouble of repairing holes in our HVAC ductwork! I've used them twice since buying a home in redwood city. Ahmed, was able to accommodate my schedule and come out to do an assessment of the insulation in the home and talk about what services Greenshield could help. We walked through the home and discussed what was lacking and what jobs would have the most and least impact on the home. We scheduled attic insulation to be installed and he recommended a contractor that could install plywood in the Attic for storage. A few months later, I was still seeing hot and cold spots in the home. Ahmed was able to come by to discuss what would be the next steps. We determined that the back half of the home which has an addition did not have wall insulation. Greenshield worked with a contractor to get this job sub contracted out. I also had them seal with spray in foam any air leaks underneath of the home. Very satisfied with them going above and beyond to help with any additional minor items while they were doing the jobs, the professionalism of the workers and staff, and fairness of their billing. They had overestimated my wall insulation, and were able to adjust the price to make it slightly less costly. Very happy and would recommend. read more

Ahmad is professional, prompt and highly accommodating, and his team did an excellent with blowing in wall and attic insulation and installing batts under the floor, above the crawl space. I used a FLIR One infrared camera before and after, and can confirm the walls were dense packed with insulation with no cold spots. The walls are actually slightly more well insulated than some other walls with batts installed. When I had found some hard-to-reach areas along the attic perimeter were not as well insulated, Ahmad was patient in understanding the issue, and receptive in finding a solution, even if it meant making another trip out to resolve it. Ahmad's experience in working with the BayREN program to get rebates was effortless as well (saved nearly 50% of the cost, so total cost came in much lower than a slightly lower estimate from a non-BayREN-approved contractor). After each job, they cleaned and vacuumed everywhere. I only have a few suggestions to share. I opted for having the 1.5" holes drilled from the outside, instead of the inside, and Ahmad's team only plugs the holes and applies a sealant, but does not repair the stucco texture. As initially applied the sealant "overfilled" the hole. On the advice of several stucco repair people, I asked that they "underfill" the hole slightly, and this made it very easy to just apply some Rapid Set stucco repair to each hole later. For the covid situation, everyone wore a mask at all times; however, plan to have some sort of a restroom solution available. Overall, the insulation has greatly increased comfort. The insulated garage now has a min/max temperature of 57-61F, whereas the outdoor low/high is ~40F-65F. read more

We invested in some home heating and cooling efficiencies and our HAVC contractor recommended Greenshield for our attic insulation needs. Ahmad called to schedule an appointment. The crew lead called the day before our appointment to confirm timing. On our scheduled day, Ahmad texted before the crew arrived so we could secure our cats in one of the bedrooms. Upon arrival, the crew lead had a Covid mask on and introduced himself, took a quick survey of the home. Before starting, the crew protected our floors/carpet with drop clothes. The insulation work was completed quickly and professionally. Upon completion, the crew lead explained the work that was completed, including applying a little extra insulation at no additional cost. This required extra labor to install but gives us easier access to the attic. An older gentleman knocked on our door and offered us an energy audit. Since we were home that day, we asked not to book an appointment for the following day but for the afternoon on that day. We wanted to see what an energy audit is all about. A very polite gentleman named Ahmad came to our house and inspected the interior and exterior of the house after he asked us a few questions relating to our energy use. My husband followed him everywhere and they saw a lot of things around the house that needs simple fixing. They use this high tech camera to check spots around the house that is not insulated and they also checked on carbon monoxide. They wrote everything down on their inspection sheet, and told us where to get the stuff so we can fix it ourselves. I like that they gave us a comprehensive inspection free of charge which gave us a better understanding of how houses work, they are very respectful, they wore these shoe covers before they entered our house, which was nice. When they looked up in the attic, they found almost no insulation and they recommended that we get some blown in. Our house is over 40 years old, we did some kitchen remodeling, but we never peeked in the attic, no wonder some nights can be chilly in the winter, so our PGE bill is high because we set our thermostat at 75, which I learned that it's not good. After a few hours of inspection and showing us the recommendations, we told him we will think about it. We wanted to find out if we could just do it ourselves. We asked for references of their work and they gave us a number of a couple of our neighbors which were their customers a few months ago. I personally know one of the neighbors so I went to Linda's house to take a peek in their attic. Judging by what we saw, it looked like a very difficult task for us since my husband said there were spaces that were very hard to crawl into, and they also saw what looked like animal droppings. After a few days we decided to call Ahmad to let him know we were doing it. The installation of the insulation and solar attic fan took several hours, but they laid a tarp on the floor and cleaned up very well after they were done with the attic work. They were very professional and polite. We had to reschedule the installation dates a couple of times on a short notice, but they were very accommodating. I highly recommend. read more

From the start Ahmad was knowledgeable, informative, responsive and easy to work with.
