Dr. Greenspan is extremely knowledgeable and very caring. He listens and is an excellent diagnostician.

I have been seeing Dr. Alan Greenspan for about 25 years. He is an incredible doctor and extremely caring, kind, and knowledgeable! He is the sole reason due to his persistence in giving me multiple biopsies that we identified that my eczema had progressed into subcutaneous lymphoma. When I was diagnosed by him he seemed more upset by the diagnosis than I was which shows how kind a doctor he is, someone who truly cares about his patients! It usually takes years to diagnose this condition because the biopsies quite often don't immediately show this diagnosis. When none of the eczema treatments worked the way they were supposed to he scratched his head and said I am going to keep poking you with biopsies until we get to the bottom of it - he said sometimes you get lucky on a biopsy and it can show something that the others don't. As it so happened after I hit my head on the side of a steel pole on my dog cage as luck would have it I was due to see him the following week. He took one look at this big awful bump on my head and said what on earth happened and asked me why I didn't come in right away - again this speaks to his truly caring nature! He then immediately said that is not at all normal and took a biopsy of it. This is the one that finally yielded a definitive diagnosis and I was diagnosed with subcutaneous lymphoma - a Stage 2b. He immediately called Dr. Horowitz a world class doctor in this type of cancer at Sloan Kettering and he pulled some strings to get me in there within a week or two - he made sure I was squeezed in. As it so happened Dr. Greenspan went on a trip to Israel when I was scheduled to go to Sloan Kettering and he told me I could call him on Whatsapp during his trip and to let him know what they had to say. I was blown away by his unselfishness and kindness - I can't imagine any other doctor caring so much!!!! I have been getting great treatment since then from Sloan and my condition is under great control. I would highly highly recommend Dr. Greenspan he is a superbly knowledgeable and very caring doctor! He is absolutely a godsend and he quite honestly may have saved my life by identifying the condition before it progressed to my blood and/or organs. I would highly highly recommend if you are not overjoyed with your existing dermatologist that you immediately switch to Dr. Alan Greenspan!!!!!! You won't be disappointed!!! John read more

I found Dr. Greenspan to be rude, lacking in empathy and terse to the point of unkindness. Really awful bedside manner. However, he did a good job removing a growth on my forehead and was skilled enough not to leave a scar. I thought he was just having a bad day but he was even more unpleasant when I came back for the follow up appointment. It was a very weird and unsettling experience. I find doctors to be reasonably kind and decent people on the whole but this guy is a true outlier. His front desk staff were about as uncouth and rude as he was so I've never gone back. There's never an excuse for a health care professional to treat a patient poorly. Don't waste your time with this man. There are plenty of equally competent doctors who will treat you like a human being. Dr. Greenspan might benefit from therapy to better control his personality difficulties. read more

I saw Dr. Greenspan for two different problems. PRO - When i was dealing with acne of the skin, he tried a lot of different treatments. None of them worked that well because the source of the problem, it turns out, was hormonal related, so the treatments were of limited effect. But he tried hard and was willing to work with me using trial and error. CON - After not seeing him for many years I had come down with an unknown rash that was all over many parts of my body. And it itched like crazy. He took one look at me and told me that I had scabies and gave me the standard treatment of permethrin. The way this topical is supposed to work is one treatment gone, and then a follow-up in a week, just in case. One is supposed to cover every part of their body from the neck down, even underneath your finger nails and sleep with the cream on overnight. I followed the treatment to the best of my ability. The itching can continue for a few weeks even after the problem is resolved, so I waited a few weeks until I saw him again. When the itching didn't stop, I saw him. He was rude and condescending to me. He could not fathom that the treatment was ineffective and immediately dismissed his original diagnosis saying that the bumps on my chest were acne, the bumps near my groin was razor burn, and the bumps on my legs were mosquito bites. That's right, 3 different issues rather than thinking, "Hey, the treatment didn't work". Permethrin makes a lot of claims to work 99% of the time, but if you do your homework via the internet, you will find the language on every website is almost the exact same wording. After living with this itch that will keep you up half the night, every night for six months, I had done plenty of research. I self-treated myself with homemade sulfer-lotion treatments because the pre-1950's methods used sulfer with petroleum jelly. It takes a lot longer to treat that way and is far more unpleasant. Before you think I was crazy, my father ended up getting diagnosed with Scabies by another dermatological, because he got it from me or my daughter so I KNOW it was scabies. I was very disheartened by the way he passive-aggressively refused to treat me once his initial treatment failed to work. Additionally, dealing with such a problem for a long time has a scaring mental effect. Whenever I get itchy in the winter months, I get super paranoid now. My ex-husband got bed-bugs in his home and it immediately triggered all the feelings I had about the scabies years ago and made me hyper-vigilant enough that I cut off my hair that was mid-back to just below my neck. (Because my hair itching me when hitting my collar bone triggered such a response that I thought it was best not to torture myself and just cut my hair.) So I don't recommend going to Dr. Greenspan for a medical dermatological issue. read more

I'd treated with four different dermatologist over five years prior to visiting this practice. My problem was moderate adult acne, with some allergies thrown in, and each of the prior doctors seemed to figure out one part of my treatment puzzle and then hit a roadblock. Dr. Greenspan figured out that final piece. What I most like about the office is that I can generally book an appointment within a week, my appointments generally start on time, and I'm in and out of the office in a predictable amount of time. No one has tried to sell me anything. Dr. Greenspan and the staff physicians are pretty clinical and no-nonsense. If you're looking for a lot of warm fuzziness and humor, this is probably not the place. But if you want doctors who are thorough, competent, and interested in treating medical dermatology patients, then I recommend this place. read more

I have been seeing Dr Greenspan for years (I have a lot of moles that need yearly checking). He is a great doctor and a great person. He is always interested in everything that is going on with his patients and anything that can help them. Last visit we talked about vitamins, something most doctors totally ignore. He is smart, friendly and always curious to learn and do more - what else could you want in a doctor? Oh I forgot to mention - always on time! Dr. Greenspan is delightful and knowledgeable, however, his office staff is simply awful. I've had to call 3 times to get a prescription filled and they act as though I'm disrupting their day with my call. They are lazy and unhelpful, after several visits I will have to find a new dermatologist because I simply can't deal with their unprofessional and simply rude behavior. read more

I have heard good reviews about him for cosmetic dermatology treatments, but my problem was related to medical dermatology. I still thought of giving him a chance since his clinic was very close to my work. So, the review The staff is ok, ( the usual indifferent type ). The doctor himself doesn't spend too long with you, but he is not in a hurry either. Doesn't talk much, which i don't care about as long as my medical problem was solved. Now for the medical problem itself. I have had a persistent Wart on my finger(hand) for years now. Have been to various dermatologist, and everyone does the same. Freeze the wart and put a certain medication on it. the wart doesn't go away even after 5 years of similar treatment. Obviously, it needs more than this. Dr.Greenspan also suggested the same treatment and when it wasn't too effective after 3 visits, he suggested that he dig off the wart that would leave a small ditch in my finger, that will take around 2 years to fill. That scared me a little, but I was surprised that this common occurring condition has no other stronger treatment. so, I was ready to do it if I didn't have any other choice, but I wanted to get a second opinion first. So, I went to Dr.Adam Geyer. He first tells me that the ointment that i was using doesn't help the strong warts on the fingers. he sat with me and gave me 6 options, telling me the strength and risk and timeline of each, and none of the 6 options included actually involve digging out the wart. This only leads me to believe that Dr.Greenspan is not very experienced with medical dermatology (atleast warts). He did not even have the basic instrument that shoots(in a very thing directed stream) the freezing liquid which my previous Dermatologist had. He instead used cotton swabs and the liquid in a flask. So, I switched by Dermatologist. But a friend of mine went to him for a skin condition on his face, and whatever Dr.Greenspan suggested worked like a charm. So, I'm guessing that was his area of expertise. read more

Dr. Greenspan picked up on a problem that otherwise was unnoticed by another dermo. Dr. G. is thorough in his examination. Dr. G. removes what is needed to be removed or treated. Dr. G. scheds follow up exams in a timely fashion. Dr. G. scheds biannual exams when necessary. The medical care is competent...by that I mean excellent. Each time I required treatment there was -0- pain and -0- discomfort. Dr. G. gets right to the point. If I am nervous I tell him. Lots of folks expect the doc to be warm fuzzy and take the initiative. However, if you express concern than Dr. G. responds with empathy. I like his staff. They do not make mistakes and I've been a patient for four years. If you want a hand holder than go to Park Avenue. If you want thorough, competent and careful treatment...the doc does have a heart and is very a very nice man...than I'd recommend Dr. Greenspan in half a heartbeat. read more

The doctor itself is fine, but the front desk is the worst you will ever experience. Secretaries are bad on the phone and / or in person, and treat you like an intruder to their space. Had to wait a month for an appointment. Showed up and the receptionist casually tells me that Dr. Greenspan is on vacation. I asked her why they booked my appointment on a day when he would be gone, and she said he just decided to go. She said they called. I checked my recent calls and messages, nothing. She said I must have given them the wrong number then she proceeded to read my correct number back to me. If she had even apologized for one second I would have felt better about it. Instead, I wasted two hours in the middle of the work day and now have to wait for an appointment with another doctor. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Greenspan's for over 20 years (yes - it's true - since 1995). I love Dr. Greenspan. He is an incredible dermatologist - an amazing diagnostician and a caring physician all in one. Plus his office staff is always courteous and helpful and he runs as close to on time as any doctor I have ever seen. While I'm unable to comment on the advancedness of his equipment, and may be slightly biased due the close proximity of his office to my job, I do not find him uncompassionate at all. Dr. Greenspan is by far the BEST Dermatologist in Manhattan, and trust me I should know. I have suffered from cystic acne for over ten years now. It has consumed my life and not in a good way. Therefore, I have had the unfortunate experience of seeing all the " top Doctors" in the city. I have tried every laser treatment, and have had every Dermatologist try to sell me everything in sight. However, with Dr. Greenspan he was the first Doctor that took the time to actually get to know me, my concerns, and, my issues with my skin. I am blown away by his kindness and genuine concern for his patients. He has been so honest, never recommended anything that wasn't necessary and has given me the confidence I needed to finally go on Accutane. As I mentioned, I have seen many Doctors over the years and Dr. Greenspan is the only one I have ever trusted to put me on this medication. Since starting my course of Accutane, he has been available at all times to answer any questions and to see me when need be. His office is spotless, the staff is fantastic, especially Dr. Grenspan's nurse Liz, who is extremely efficient. I have struggled for to many years, but thanks to Dr. Greenspan I can finally see a light at the end of a very long tunnel. One last thing, do you know any Doctor that doesn't rush you out of the room to see the next patient? I hadn't until I met Dr. Greenspan. There is no better Dermatologist in the city and I can't recommend him enough. Seriously, I would stop researching other Doctors and book an appointment with him ASAP. read more
