My family knows GTA quite well, we've been bringing our cars here for years and we're never disappointed. They do such quality work and provide a sense of trust with repairs that tend to be quite expensive. I dropped my car off on a Friday because my car had a burning smell. It turns out I had a massive oil leak which is a huge fire hazard (car indicated nothing was wrong). They had my car ready for pick up on Monday due to a high demand of a sought after part for my Buick. What could have been a long process took a total of 3 days, partially because of the wait of a part and partially due to being closed on Sundays. They had to take my entire engine apart, and while it was costly (it was a huge undertaking) I knew it was done right and very well. Always lots to worry about when you take your car into a small private garage instead of a dealership. (Plenty to worry about there too.). I've been using Jeff and Phil at GTT&A for over twenty years. They are dependable and offer fair pricing. Mostly oil changes and tires over the years but there have been the occasional big job and they've alway come through. Making an appointment is better than just trying to drop off. Car repairs are the kind of things in life that can go sideways in a hurry and not everyone has the same experience at any given garage, but I've always been good with the GTT&A crew. read more

I requested a service to be done on my car and a safety and emissions test. I was called and told that it didn't pass emissions but they could make a repair that saved me so much money, the same repair that DOBBS tire and auto was going to charge an exponential amount. I will not have ANYONE else but Greentree Tire and Auto work on any vehicle of mine again. They went above and beyond. Forever grateful. I hope the gift basket I sent them was delicious. I have been using Greentree for about 3 years. I have a Jeep that has been problematic but Greentree has always done reliable repairs. They do charge for their diagnostic time, but I'd rather have that than inflated repair charges or repairs by trial and error. The key factors you want in a mechanic are expertise, trustworthiness, affordability, and courtesy. Greentree hits on all 4 cylinders! read more

Disappointing because they were recommended to me as trustworthy. I went in for an inspection and they failed me in a blatant attempt to give themselves business fixing it. Slight crack in the casing of my headlight (the headlight itself works fine). They quoted me $180 for the part--went home and looked it up, $40 online. Won't be back. Oh and went somewhere else and it passed the inspection just fine. read more

I have only been here once but based on a recommendation of a auto repair friend, I needed someone to look at my car and see if it was worth saving. They were nice, honest and helpful. I have had two great experiences here. The first was an impromptu break job done on my front end without an appointment. The cost ended up being $100 less than what other places had quoted me for the same work. The second experience is really the best. Who cares how good a place is initially if they don't back up their work? 18 months later (Monday of this week) my vehicle began having the same problems with the front end brakes. Phil worked me in immediately and had the problem fixed, zero cost to me, within a couple of hours. I have had a couple of very good experiences with Greentree. I asked one hundred questions and Phil answered all of them. I felt like he was reading my quote too fast, so he slowed down and explained every part of it to me. I even asked the uncomfortable questions about whether or not the work was really necessary and he patiently explained everything again. It seems like a really good place. read more

Despite the fact that their communication with customers is completely inappropriate, the service is misleading, dishonest, and (now that I know) overpriced. If you know everything about a vehicle you may not get suckered into this business, but for those of us that rely on the honesty of a tech STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Not only were they rude to me, they were rude to eachother--and worse--to those they worked with on the phone! I have never been more disgusted by a person's words...and this is not just F*** or S***. Seriously need to evaluate the standards for a business and "Jeff" needs to start treating others how he wishes to be treated. Will never return or recommend this company. read more

When I lived in St. Louis for 3 years, several classmates recommended Greentree to me. My preferred mechanic was all the way in my home state of Florida so obviously that wasn't an option. I needed a mechanic in St. Louis. If someone was in St. Louis and was in need of a mechanic, here's what I would tell them about Greentree: -They are timely with repairs. -They are efficient at communicating with me over the phone and via email. -They have the customer convenience of usually having a loaner vehicle. -They have a comfortable waiting area. -They never made changes to the plan for my vehicle repairs without my consent first. -The lead mechanic is a great guy. All of these things are things that I value. And it should be noted that they are more expensive than any other mechanic I've been to, BUT they are also located in a place with a higher cost of living and therefore, their average customer can afford to pay the higher price at the neighborhood auto shop. This isn't all that outrageous. People should not be shocked by this. So why would I give this place 2 out of 5 stars? Because there is a HUGE problem with the way they do business. After getting them to install a tow package in my Jeep, three weeks later, crap hit the fan in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and they did NOT stand behind their work--more specifically behind the part that they placed in the vehicle. The NAPA Balkamp product they placed in my Jeep malfunctioned and caused an electrical fire in my vehicle. It was pretty serious, and it could have been a lot worse. My home-town, mechanic in Florida and the GEICO insurance rep both took one look at the NAPA part and identified that the fire started because the part malfunctioned. The damage was around $2,400. The insurance covered all except the $500 deductible. My mechanic, Dave, said that I should contact the mechanic in St. Louis (Greentree) that installed the part to cover the deductible. Dave said that he personally does business and that is industry standard. Because when you install a part, you're taking responsibility for it as the mechanic and if it malfunctions--he as the mechanic will take that up with the Rep he bought the part from. Why? Because I'm his customer and he is the customer of the auto parts distributor and their sales team. Dave has stood by his work on our family vehicles in this way for 20 years. Which is why we trust him and recommend him to everyone without hesitation. I do NOT put this same confidence in Greentree. When I called Greentree, they didn't take care of me--their customer. They passed the buck along to their NAPA Balkamp rep: Michael Mann. They gave me his number and I called him. I emailed him photos and texted them to him as well. Haven't heard back from him since we spoke in October 2014. Why? Well, because I'm not his customer--he doesn't care about me. If Jeff at Greentree came to him and said, "Hey this part you sold me caused my customer a huge problem--here's the scorched part to show you," then you better believe Michael Mann would have gotten back to him. But not me. Therefore, I paid the $500 deductible and I contacted Michael on three separate occasions and he hasn't gotten back to me. So...if you go to Greentree, be aware that if they place a part in your vehicle that malfunctions and causes any sort of damage, they will pass you along to their parts rep instead of taking care of you like they probably should. The hardest part of it all is this: I don't think the owner would do this to his pastor or his pastor's wife--who are customers there at Greentree. I don't think they would do this to any of the several area ministers who are also their patrons. But to an out of state graduate school student who's moving a 1000 miles away...well, it's easy to not deal with him like you would others because he's leaving town--so what does it matter? read more

I was very pleased with my visit to Greentree Auto. I wanted to shop local if possible and am glad I did. I was given an estimate on the spot. Part was ordered and put in the next day while I waited in the comfortable waiting room enjoying the antics of Charlie, the resident parrot I felt the repair price was fair and I had shopped around for prices. I recently brought by car into Greentree because another shop had put a bad part in my car, started fixing things that didn't need to be fixed, and couldn't figure out that the root problem was the bad part that they had installed. Upon receiving my car, Greentree stuck with my car problem till they had fixed it. Even though I was stressed out and cranky from having been jacked around by the other shop, they provided me with all the tools I needed to get a full refund from the shop that had put a bad part in. They also went above and beyond what they "technically" had to do to fix my car. Everyone involved listened to my frustrations and was very professional. Two thumbs up for Greentree. read more

I am absolutely appalled with the level of service I received at Greentree or rather, lack thereof. I would not recommend this place to anyone for any reason once so ever-everything from their unprofessionalism to their dishonesty...I felt they not only lacked the knowledge of a legitimate auto body shop but were also misleading, overpriced, rude and overall seedy. I am definitely not one to jump at the opportunity to discredit a company but I felt it was more than necessary to warn others so they dont get taken advantage of. This place is horrible! read more

We had been going to Greentree for 3 years and I was never very impressed with their service, but just never felt like searching for another mechanic as they had come recommended to us. Back in April I took my car in because it wasn't functioning correctly. They looked it over and found what they thought was the problem and fixed it. As I was driving home the check engine light came on in my car. I called and was thoroughly unimpressed with the response I received. I brought it back and found it was the catalytic converter. They were going to charge me an obscene amount of money to fix it so I let it be. Fast forward to October my car was acting up again so out of necessity to get it fixed I hesitantly brought it into Greentree, figuring I'd give them another try. I specifically asked the mechanic via email, written letter, and over the phone to THOROUGHLY check my car. I received a report that I would need about $3000 worth of work done. I asked him if he would go through each item with me so I could understand the enormous amount. He rudely agreed to do so and in an annoyed tone walked me through the problems. I specifically asked him if he thought it would be smart to put this money into the car or if I should just try to sell it now and see how much I could get out of it as I didn't want to dump $3000 into the car and wind up dumping another $1000 or more a few months down the line. He assured me they had thoroughly looked at the car and that it was worth spending the $3000. I wend ahead with the repair and 24 hours later as I was driving to work, guess what came on? The check engine light! I called Greentree and no surprise they took no responsibility for it and were angry at me for the light coming on saying it must have been something that came up since I picked it up 24 hours ago. I brought it in and they ran a test on it finding that it was the catalytic converters. The same problem that came up in April- had they checked that out in the "through" inspection they supposedly ran on my car? no, even through it was on their records. Their response? Oh we thought you had gotten it fixed by another mechanic. First off, the phone is not difficult to pick up and ask me about it. Second, you are my mechanic and have been for 3 years!! Incredibly frustrating experience. Very unprofessional, unaccommodating, un-through, lazy, and rude. I will not be recommending anyone nor going their myself any longer. read more

My family has been coming to this mechanic for over twenty years before it was called Greentree. My parents took their cars here then as the kids got cars, we come here, too. The only reason any of us stopped was because they moved away. While I was a starving college student, they were understanding and would let me know what had to be fixed and what could wait. They remember their customers and personalize the service. I don't live very close to Kirkwood and probably pass 20 mechanics to get here, but it is worth it to me because I know Jeff and Phil will do what my car needs. I don't have to choose tire brands or oil types which I'd rather pay someone else to do. If you want to be more hands on in your car maintenance, I'm sure they would accommodate that. I just prefer an expert tell me what I need so I can focus on other things. They have also been super helpful when purchasing new used cars, providing feedback on models and performing inspections. They are great. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my cars! read more
