I had one of the strangest social interactions I've had in a long time today. I've always had pleasant experiences with the father/owner of this locksmith shop, but today I had the misfortune of meeting his son, who apparently also works there. I stopped by to have some keys made and brought along a package that had been mistakenly delivered to my address. I was simply trying to get it to its rightful owner. When I arrived, the son was standing inside chatting on the phone with a friend while a small line of confused customers waited outside. I told him I had a package for that address. He looked at it and informed me that it wasn't for him, it was for his father, and then launched into a bizarre diatribe about how the postal worker delivered it to the wrong address because he knows his dad works there. The whole explanation was delivered with maximum condescension, and he kept cutting me off every time I tried to speak. At one point, a woman waiting in line got fed up, left, and loudly called him a POS on her way out. I just stood there wondering what alternate universe I'd walked into. Finally, I told him I couldn't care less about the package and was only trying to do a nice thing. I left it on the sidewalk and went about my day. Absolutely bizarre. read more

After three months of repeated calls, long waits, and simple requests for the two castle keys I paid $200 for, I was left with no choice but to try to dispute the charge with my bank. At no point did I receive the product I paid for, a straightforward explanation, or any semblance of basic respect. What I did receive was gaslighting and open hostility from the owner's son, who treats routine customer inquiries as personal attacks. ONLY SHOP HERE IF YOU SUPPORT ABLEIST BEHAVIOR!!!!!! I want to caution others about using this business if you are mailing a key in to be copied. I initially called to place my order and also sent an email with photos of the keys I wanted duplicated. I received two keys, one of which was incorrect. I immediately called to address the issue and was asked to mail my original house key back so the correct copy could be made. I offered to return the incorrect key instead, but was told to keep it. After months of follow-ups, phone calls, and emails, the company finally sent the correct castle key that I originally requested back in October (it is now December 18 as I write this). However, my original house key was never returned to me. I emailed politely asking for my original key to be sent back. In response, I was told they would not return it and was accused of lying about being told to keep the incorrect key. The tone of the response was unprofessional and rude (see attached photo). It is extremely concerning to know that a business with my name and address still has a copy of my house key and is refusing to return it. For safety reasons alone, this is alarming. If you choose to use this company, please be very cautious about mailing in original keys. Make sure all instructions and agreements are clearly documented in writing Edit: it seems as though the original key was modified in place of being copied which is not what I asked for nor what they did the first time they sent the incorrect key. As a long term customer I was esxtremely surprised and disappointed. while i waited in line to be serviced the young man behind the counter completely ignored me and serviced other customers. He carried out long conversations with them as though I was invisable. When i tried to get him to cut my keys he told me to go to a hardware store and said he didn't need my business. I asked for a quote to change a lock in a small outdoor notice box for our block association. This was January 15. I texted and stopped by mid February to check on the status. I was told they were really busy. The son said "oh maybe I should take this out of text and do a proper order" Fine. Still no rush. I texted and stopped in again beginning March. They still said they were too busy. When I asked when, the father said within two days. Today, 4 days later, I get a call saying they replaced a lock on another street and was not mine. Here is a copy of the text: "Wanted to confirm if the box we are changing is the one you originally sent photos of, Phil asked me to change another box in a hallway closer to Carmine" When I responded that was not me nor nothing to do with me, the son suggested I was not a nice guy and told me to go elsewhere...."ha ha" I went to the shop to speak in person and the father was there. I asked him why I got a text like this after all this time, he told me I needed to relax and said he wasn't responsible for texts his son sends on behalf of the business. It then escalated and he became very aggressive to a point where I felt the need to film him. He ended up telling me to shove something up my a**. Well, I wouldn't go back. This is by far my favorite store in New York City. I love the artwork they make with keys and the quaintness. It looks like a house for gnomes and wizards; a tiny monument to skill, integrity and kindness. I will never go anywhere else. A few weeks ago, I was locked out of my home and called many locksmiths at the dead of night to help me get back in my apartment. I remembered the code on my key and asked each and everyone to cut me keys according to the code number. No one had the skill to do that, they all wanted to install a new lock and charge a fortune. Philip, the owner of Greenwich locksmith asked for a picture of my door lock and cut me a duplicate key with no problem at all. He waived the fee. He made me feel like a human again. It is such a balm to know such people still exist. Greenwich Village Locksmith: A disappointing experience after several attempts. They misdiagnosed the issue and replaced the lock after a service repair call when he claimed he never charged us for repairs when he did and I sent him the invoice. He then 9 days later said the lock had to be changed -- so he did at an exorbitant price. the lock did not close properly from day on. Despite my numerous calls to repair the issue after replacement, they always said we are busy And would not return messages. After three months, I realized they were dishonest. The son texted and claimed our lock was vandalized and blamed us, but it was their unprofessional and unpleasant service that caused the problem. He just couldn't do it and I noticed the day he was working on the lock that he was struggling. A professional does not work like the way he did. Too bad for them to use the top name of "Greenwich" and deliver an unpleasant and unprofessional service in this neighborhood. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

Last week, I finally stopped in at Greenwich Locksmiths to ask if they could perhaps maybe maybe make a copy of a door key for me. We had been to at least 15 other locksmiths over the past few years desperately trying to find a place that had the blanks for our lock. Mr. Mortillaro took one look at our key and said sure he had it. 5 minutes later, I walked away from his amazingly beautiful little shop with two new keys s it in my hand. Perhaps if it useful to add that when I got home, I immediately tried them in our door and voila, they worked perfectly.
