We just happen to walk up on this spot as we were walking around in the area but was also very hungry too. We were a little concerned at first about the bar tender, it appeared like she was not sure of how to make a drink, we went ahead and took a chance. I didn't really wont to go to deep into the menu, so I ordered a burger and fries and my friend ordered the fish n fries and both a margarita. My burger was decent, fries crispy like I like them. My friend wasn't too happy with her fish, especially because they didn't have any malt vinegar and it was a litte on the greasy side. Now although the bartender wasn't the friendliest to us like she was to the other patrons, the margarita was good and strong, so certainly no complaints from either of us on that, I mean we did order a second one before hitting the road, lol. Now the kicker was the music, LISTEN, it was to die for. All kinds of everything playing, some oldies like the Temptations, some 90's R&B, hell even some Police and Average White Band. I could have sat there all day rocking out and drinking, lol. The whole top off though was the lady we met that was possibly the manager, she was awesome. I wish I could remember her name. But her and the cook were super sweet and so friendly, much different than our bartender. I would definitely recommend a visit here if you want something simple, not over pricey and great music. read more

I came here late-night as part of a wedding afterparty. We had the entire upstairs to ourselves which was pretty cool. They have a wide selection of drinks and the service was fantastic. It felt like the staff were just our friends that were letting have a party at their place. Highly recommend stopping in. read more

So I'm posted up at the bar feeling thirsty and craving a quick bite. Waitress kindly hands me a menu and then points out half of the menu are things they're currently out of. Little does she know I'm here for the Tuna and Tuna only. THANKFULLY they have it and THANKFULLY they had it coming with a nice side of potato salad. Why is this combination not on every menu is beyond me. But you know what's not beyond me is me coming back tomorrow having it again first thing when they open because it was that damn good. Awesome bar! Came here two years in a row for St. Patty's Day. They're right next to Checker Bar and are a great addition to any downtown Detroit pub crawl. They are a bit of a crowded space but we still were able to come here with a large group of 12 and fit just fine. There is a long narrow room off to the left with a long bar and also a main bar, dark lit with a long bar, and still somewhat of a narrow space with some chairs and tables. They play mostly hip hop/rap. They had green beer on tap and had Irish car bombs for St. Patty's Day. Had a great time and would definitely visit again. read more

Small hole-in-the-wall that you can easily walk by and not notice. Drink prices are decent and the interior is divey. Unfortunately, they let people smoke on the patio, which I am not a fan of. Good place to pre-drink before heading out for a fancy cocktail. read more

I've been coming here weekly for years and Mike is fantastic and the bar food is great. The low rating is the blonde bartender that all of a sudden has an ego and has the attention span of a five year old on a baseball field distracted by a butterfly. Two separate occasions I have patiently waited at the bar for another drink for more than 30 minutes while she served others that walked up well after I did. Yes, it smells like your grandma's musty basement and yes the food won't blow your socks off, but when you are looking for a great dive bar in Detroit this should be your go to. I had never even heard of this place until I started working downtown. It's not the place people think to go before or after games, or just when spending an evening downtown. If you want to go to a small intimate dive bar where there's a mix of regulars and people who just happened to notice it, this is your place. We go here often for lunch and the staff is so friendly and attentive to us. They operate on the honor system (unless there's a big event, i.e. Opening Day) and I'm usually blown away by how cheap my bill is. Their burgers are great, they serve them Better Made chips (but you can get fries) and, surprisingly, their salads are actually great. They use spring mix lettuce (not the cheap iceberg mix) and I love their house vinaigrette dressing. This is truly a 5 star dive bar. read more

The Greenwich Times pub has been in the same location for decades. Despite this fact, I have not met a single person who has frequented the place. After reading a positive Freep review about their burgers, I knew it was time to assuage my curiosity. The interior of this place looks like a Point Place, WI pub circa 1970. Despite its dated appearance, this family owned place appears to be clean. Inside, you will find a dining room with a bar, a food counter with seating, and an upper level banquet facility. The menu is limited. Supposedly, they have daily special, though, they did not inform me of any on the day I visited. The bulk of their food is said to be homemade. Their prices are as antiquated as their decor; you can get draught PBR for $1.50 and a cheeseburger for under $4.00. The owners pride themselves on their burgers. They point out that, "They are the best burgers you can get...for the price." Their cooked to order burgers are decent. Did I mention that they are cheap? They remind me of a burger that my dad would have fried up in a pan when I was a kid...in the '70's. I will admit that I am not the cliental this place caters to. As such, I debated between giving it two or three stars. I would rather pay a bit more for a better burger. read more

There are a ton of bars where your friends will never find you. Greenwhich Times is one of them. It's totally a Dad bar. Sit down, house a burger, slurp a beer and watch the game or news. I am slightly confused by all the stopped clocks behind the bar. It makes me think Bill Bonds circa '79 with a huge lapel and the second hand ticking away like a doomsday clock. This place is either a time vortex OR they live by the philosophy that even a stopped watch tells the right time twice a day. I prefer the latter. I'm not the biggest domestic beer drinker, but when in Rome drink Peroni. The cook usually brings out the food and makes sure everything looks good to you. This is a great little lunch spot if you are looking for standard American fare. I like to dodge in here if I have time to kill and don't want to stray to far from downtown. The bartenders are genuine and attentive. I don't necessarily frequent this place, but I come here often enough to get a read. The checker bar next door is pretty alright too. read more

Been to the Greenwich Time four or five times now this year prior to Tiger games. Dollar for dollar it is the best place in the city. Service is great...family run. The bar is a little old but I look around and can't help imagining my father sitting next to me having a cold glass of High Life. It just has that kind of feel. The food is consistently good and for the price you can't go wrong. The burgers are great, fries just the right size and cooked to perfection. This is the type of place I hate to brag about because I feel it is my own little neighborhood bar in the city. Hands down best rueben I've ever had. Very thick but extremely tender corned beef. A nice thick slab of Swiss cheese and just enough sauerkraut to add some flavor but not overpower. Would have given 5 stars with a little better beer selection. read more

Stumbled on to this friendly family owned bar on our DTD Walking Tour. We were on our way from Greek Town to the Lafayette and American Coney joints. Since it was frikken 80 degrees in mid-May we couldn't possibly make the extra few blocks with out a thirst quencher. Not surprised when we walked into an empty bar since it was 3:00 on a Friday. Very warmly greeted by the btendress/daughter of the owner, her brother even joined us at the bar as well. Nice ppl! The bar room area is very well kept and the drinks are cheap. What more can one ask for? We didn't try the food but the brother claims the pastrami and burgers are some of the best in DTD. This is the Cadillac Square area and the historic buildings are very impressive. Def worth a stroll if staying downtown. Yep, get out of the casinos a few blocks from here and take in one of Americas original cities. No need to be afraid in this area. Well at least before dark anyway. BTW, the name is "Greenwich Time", not "Greenwich Times." read more

Just a great little dive with a weathered feel to it and a friendly bartender. There's not a lot you gush about but it serves its purpose well. They have the norm behind the counter and I was pleased that they had Blanton's too. This is just a quiet little spot where you can get your drink on in peace. I didn't try the food from the little attached diner so we'll have to check it out next time we're here. read more

They've got both kinds of beer on tap here- Miller High Life, and Miller Lite. Since they ran out of High Life during our visit, the bartender switched over to the Lite. This really is a decent spot for a quiet night out without having to think too much about what kind of beer you want or anything else for that matter. Since it wasn't a game night, there was one other guy at the bar- a lonely stranger who possessed some basic facility with NFL small talk. Like a running back breaking for the open space, I switched topics and he left us alone. The bartender himself (part of the owning family) was personable and positive, not seeming to mind in the least a slow night. There was also a lively "girls night out" table, creating their own alternate universe where Greenwich Time provided the only worldly things they needed- a few chairs and some cheap drinks. The theme here is all about a series of broken clocks from around the world- Paris, London, New York, etc. which vary in time from each other by fractional hours. I'm sure some might call it a dive based on its lack of modernness, but it was clean, freshly painted, and restored to perhaps 1960s tavern glory. read more

Note: This place is a dive. I'm rating it as a dive bar and not trying to make it stack up against Roast or Wright and Company or some ish. Go here knowing you're going to a dive bar and adjust your expectations accordingly (I'm looking at you, yelper girl who complained about her salad. A salad? Really?). Think of this place as a poor man's Miller's Bar and you'll get the picture. Cheap, cold domestic beer. Cheap, hot, yet substantive burgers (like, 1/3#, if I had to guess). They do clam chowder that's pretty solid and worth ordering, though I'm pretty sure they only serve it Fridays. I'm pretty sure they do a chicken sandwich, if that's your thing. Service is quick. This place is not a place for haute cuisine or Instagramming your food with Polaroid filters. It's a place to knock back a few beers, have a couple laughs, and throw a burger into the mix, yet only walk out twenty bucks down. read more

Went here after work with my coworker for the first time because no other place was open. We walked in and asked the bartender if they were still serving food- they were just closing the kitchen, but kept it open to feed us girls. The bartender was awesome and personalized drinks based on what we usually get. Found out this is a family owned bar since 1966!! Big appreciation there. The food was on point too. Tried to go here on a Friday night and had to do a double take. As I came to the door I saw that there was a customer(?) sitting on top of the bar smoking a cigarette. Do you guys know what year it is!? Not trying to breathe in your second hand smoke while enjoying a drink. My favorite bar in Detroit. It used to be my go to lunch spot when I worked downtown. Skip the chain and trendy places downtown and go to Greenwich Time. Beer is cheap, drinks are great, and the burgers are some of the best around. read more
