So this is my first "official" review on Yelp.....I thought long and hard to decide what I would "yelp" about first (did I use that word the right way??) and Greenwood Inn was it. Why? Because I have been going there my entire life all 30+ years (did you really think I was going to tell you how old I was?) Ok..to the review already. I have seen Greenwood Inn change a lot over the years. They have been there for a long time and you get that Cheers feeling when you walk in, like everyone knows your name. The remodel is great, a little echo, but beautiful. The staff....the best, well most of the time, but we all have our off days. Except for Sully, you the man! If you go request Sully and he will take good care of you. The owners and the staff are mostly local people and that is always a great thing in my book. The food...it is good comfort food, lots of offer but not nothing too fancy. If you want to get a bite to eat and dont feel like cooking, then go to Greenwood Inn. If you want to impress a first date, maybe go somewhere else. The drinks....cold and yummy. And the prices are great too. I large open bar with TVs and good company. Want to get a drink and relax after a long day of work, then go to the Greenwood Inn. The prices....great. You wont break the bank going out to dinner even with a family. They also have a room you can rent and we have had functions there and love it. The kids will love it too, can write on the tables!!! Dont worry they put that table paper on it... Mama once told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, it's best not to say anything at all.' Well, I've always had "selective hearing," when it comes to mama's advice. And I'm about to say some not-so-nice things. Four of us arrived at Greenwood Inn on a recent Monday evening for dinner. We were fresh off a plane from southern Florida and found ourselves dressed for markedly warmer climes, on a cold November night in Rhode Island. It felt good to walk by the warm, crackling fireplace inside this cozy setting, which appeared to be populated with several longtime regulars: couples, families, small groups of friends. It struck me as a "local yokel" kind of place. Frazzled from a long day of traveling, I was happy to settle in for a meal somewhere that wasn't a place to see and be seen. The menu looked promising; we got down to the business of ordering an $18 bottle of Malbec on special offer; and two of us opted to split an order of panko crusted chicken sliders. A bowl of chicken noodle soup sounded like the perfect entrée to warm my thinned-out Floridian blood. Bread was delivered to the table; but not the type of artisanal deliciousness that derails the good intentions of Atkins dieters. Rather, they were the large, white, doughy hunks of white bread that are really only worthwhile when dunked in broth. Seconds later, ear splitting sirens blasted throughout the restaurant; the fire alarm had been tripped. We were informed by our server that, as the alarm was not deactivated within the allotted first couple of minutes, we all had to wait it out for the fire department: and we had to do so, while standing outdoors. In November. Dressed for Florida. In Warwick, RI. The fire department took about 15-20 agonizing minutes to arrive. All the while, we stood shivering in the vestibule entrance to the restaurant (I was the weirdo in white Capri pants and huaraches), huddled together like The Little Match Girl for warmth. As soon as the alarm was deactivated, I raced inside and stood in front of the fireplace, basking in the radiant heat. When the four entrees arrived, we had to send two of them back to the kitchen: an order of veal parmesan and a seafood dinner were both served cold. The food was unremarkable, sufficient to curb one's hunger but not memorable enough to want to return. In the end, one drink was comped for our troubles with the alarm (which we heard has happened before)--and our server wished us a 'nice weekend' (on a Monday night?). One gets a feeling that things are set to autopilot here: they're making a decent living off the townsfolk that come by on a regular basis, because they always have, and because they always will. It's that kind of unquestioning loyalty that keeps certain places in business, while a more discerning interloper can recognize a one-and-done when they see it. read more

Stopped here for lunch and will definitely go back for dinner. Our waiter Vinnie was super nice and very friendly. The menu is extensive with a nice variety of choices. The chicken soup made me smile. My daughter had the tuna sandwich and I had the Buffalo chicken wrap both were outstanding. The fries were perfect. The place has a very comfortable warm feel to it with the large stone fireplace and beautiful chandeliers. There is a long comfortable bar and two dining areas. Again ask for Vinnie he'll make the whole experience that much better. Definitely 5 star read more

This was my first visit to The Greenwood Inn and following is my report: Atmosphere: comfortable and clean with a bit of class - had the feel of someplace you might take a first date or go to on a special occasion. Staff: Excellent wait staff and servers Food: Not bad but not memorable. The menu offers a nice selection without going crazy but between the five people in my group I don't think anyone was thrilled. I would put it a notch above a TGI Fridays or Red Robins but not really by far. Prices were in line but just nothing thrilling about this place. read more

I came here a couple times for lunch with coworkers. Service was friendly and fairly quick. I ordered the guacamole wrap both times I visited. It was good..both times, but the first time was much better. The fries were decent. Now the major fail to me was the juice. Ew.. The lemonade tasted like watered down koolaid. So gross and the juice is very important to me! I only had that the first time and decided to stick to water(the second time) because you can't go wrong with that. This place has really evolved from a few years ago. I really liked my last visit. The stuffed mushrooms were some of the best I've ever had. The burger was perfectly cooked and the fries crispy. The menu looks pretty interesting, so I can't wait to try something else. The decor has certainly been upgraded immensely with the major renovation they undertook. Prices are pretty reasonable, and they even have a list of entrees for people who don't have huge appetites that are super affordable. Perfect! To top it off, service was impeccable. Finally had a chance to try this place while my sons took the grandsons to see the Christmas lights at LaSalette The restaurant was very nice. Kind of a medieval feel with very tall ceilings and wood beams. Our server, Randy, was great, no complaints. I ordered a sirloin get steak, medium rare and loaded mashed potato and salad. All were yummy. Shared the salad with my hubby, he didn't get one with his burger. Potatoes were awesome, I'm a suckah for potatoes. The steak was just a bit overcooked but still tasted good. Overall, I was happy with my meal. I ordered some Grapenut Pudding for dessert. OMG..a real taste of Rhode Island. It was delish and so reminded me of the pudding I made for my family when I lived in RI. I have to dig out my old recipe and make a big dish of this!!! read more

Went to Greenwood Inn on the recommendation of a friend from the area. Sat at the bar and had some dinner. I would describe the menu as good solid comfort food. Steaks, chops, seafood. Reasonably priced. The setting is comfortable but a little upscale. Ok for family dinner or business dinner. Nice bar. Friendly staff. Service was excellent. Tommy is the bomb. They advertise a gluten free menu. Yet the scallops had no seasoning. The cheesecake on the GF menu sold out and this was on a Tuesday. Makes you wonder if they ever have cheesecake. Let me start by acknowledging the other reviews about the poor food quality and run down dining room. They are spot on. The outside is new (vinyl siding and entrance was spruced up fairly recently) but the inside is old. Like the great room of a clubhouse out in the woods, I guess. Big dated space with old worn out carpet and worn out furniture. I ate lunch here with my mom, who ended up picking the place based on friends' recommendations. Our table and chairs were pretty worn out. Hey, mom, we had a kitchen table like this in the 80's, remember? I had scallops which were like the bottom of the bag of bay scallops - tiny with little meat and the breaded topping was over the top. Served with mashed potatoes which might have been instant. My mom didn't like her veal, either. The server was a nice guy and did a good job. My colleague and I ordered salads. They were huge! Both came with two pieces of garlic bread (real minced garlic!). The grilled chicken was moist and seasoned very well. We did a pick up early. I went to the Greenwood Inn last night for dinner with my husband & sister. The restaurant was not at all busy for a Friday night, so I don't understand why we had to wait so long to get our meals. My sister & I ordered the veal parmesan & my husband ordered the Thanksgiving wrap and he ordered the sweet potatoes fries. (which were extra) instead of regular french fries. We also order ginger ale for our drinks. Me & my sister got the chicken soup with our meal. The soup had a good flavor, but the pasta in it was so mushy, there were no vegetables in it and hardly any chicken. We would have preferred a salad, but that was extra. When we finally got our orders, which took quite a while to get, the food was cold. The sweet potatoe fries were not crispy, they looked like they were put in the fryer for a few minutes and then taken out. My husband said the wrap was okay, nothing special about it. The veal parmesan was another story. The veal was over cooked, the pasta was cold like it had been sitting there and they just put some tomato sauce on it. The sauce tasted like it came out of a can. Ragu is even better than that sauce they use. My sister ordered a chicken parmesan sandwich to go for her husband. He said the piece of chicken was so thick and was tough to chew. The ginger ale was flat and tasted like it was watered down. The meals were horrible and the prices were way to high for what it was worth. Needles to say, this is the first and last time we go to the Greenwood Inn and I would not recommend it to my family and friends. read more

Greenwood Inn is one of my all time favorites. It is a local place that I have been going to since I was a baby. I am 28 and I still remember exactly how the old restaurant looked before the remodel years ago. My grandfather Joe Baker was a staple here way back when and I still feel like family when I walk in with my family. The restaurant staff are always familiar faces and make it very welcoming. My favorite menu items are their club sandwiches, especially turkey. The fried scallops which was my grandmothers favorite, or any of their Italian dishes because the sauce is the boss. And definitely the hot turkey plate! Everything is great really, and it all taste just as great as it did when I was a kid, I love that it's still original family recipe. Anyone looking for a family friendly warm environment and home style comfort meal- you will not be disappointed. read more

The interior of this restaurant is nice and open. The waiter seemed unsure of himself, he just looked nervous and didn't make eye contact. Our table wasn't happy when he took away 2 of our plates, making the other 2 people feel like they had to rush to finish. That's just basic waiting tables knowledge that you don't take away someone's plate before everyone is done. I had a cup of chicken noodle soup. That wasn't worth the money for the small amount of soup it was, it was exactly half the size of my mug of tea! It was good though. My chicken Cesar salad was delicious! I'm very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. It was my first (and only) time hear. I visited with my 5 year old daughter. I ordered the eggplant parm casserole but instead received an eggplant parm dinner. These are 2 entirely different entrees. The eggplant was mushy with no crispness on the outside. My daughter had the little appetites hamburger plate. I would think that when one orders a hamburger that it would come with a bun. No! It was a a hamburg patty only. Ugghh. It was ordered medium and came charred on the outside and bright pink on the inside. A lot of ketchup made it somewhat palatable. I must say, the fries and chicken soup were good. I was very disappointed with the service (or lack of) on Friday night. We arrived with one other couple waiting before us however others walking in were seated first. I was told they were "call ahead and regulars". Regulars ? Well after coming to the restaurant for 28 years I always thought I was a "regular" ( guess not). The last straw was two large parties again seated before us (2 people in my party). I guess new rules if your not a "regular or an attorney or a large party " you wait 45 or longer for a party of 2. Bummed by my visit. Ordered take out. mozzarella sticks, a Reuben and then a pizza, which I've heard a lot of good things about and wanted to try. Apparently they don't have any pizzas. In a split second decision, because I was already at the end of my order, I went with the turkey club. I picked up the food, brought it home and discovered that neither sandwich had been served with a side of fries. I thought club sandwiches by definition practically came with fries. I'm not sure what happened, but it's not motivating me to try it out again. Stuffed Quahogs, stuffed mushrooms and mozzarella sticks were sooooo delicious it and so generous in portion that we had to box up a big portion of our stuffed shrimp Parm, lobster roll and cheese ravioli and meatball!! My friend and I stopped here on our way home from Providence. We walked in and the waiter said "The kitchen is closing soon, so I don't know if you want to stay." We responded we would be quick and he sat us. He put us next to a table with an outlet per request and proceeded to talk to us about our trip in Providence. He took our order quickly, but we did not feel rushed. Vinnie is an example of what great guest service is. After we finished our meal and paid, he came over and told us we over tipped him (My friend and I are 20 year old college students, which is apparent by looking at us.) Lifelong resident of Warwick and my first time here will be my last time. My husband and I ordered take out one night. Given it is walking distance to our house. We ordered chicken parm and eggplant parm. Because it was "take out" pasta and bread was not included with it. Those were only for dine in meals. Pasta and bread are the cheapest pieces to a meal, I was shocked. And Italian entrees not served with pasta?! That is absurd.
