I'm seeing a lot of Low reviews and Petty reviews but I believe it's because people's emotions are definitely running high whenever they are dealing with a funeral home and those type circumstances. But I'm sure all funeral homes don't have a one ratings- they could be understaffed or yes someone there is definitely not trained? In being compassionate? But we found everyone very friendly very helpful I will say several times I could not get people on the phone or to call me back and that's bad because the funeral home was telling me we need to do this immediately and I'm thinking when my dad died there was a two-day turnaround and he was in the ground (not there). We had weeks with my mother maybe they knew that?? But it definitely went a little slow. She is in the mausoleum to the far right as you go in I think it's a beautiful building sometimes I have seen that particular area looking messy but It's been looking really good recently and otherwise I think the whole place is absolutely beautiful !!! read more

Zero stars if that was possible. I would not recommend this company to any family who is either planning for their final arrangements or making arrangements upon the passing of a family member. The lack of caring, lack of sensitivity, lack of customer service and lack of business acumen is stunning. The anguish they have imposed on our family based on their lack of support is borderline cruelty. Find another location to make final arrangements - the folks at this location and the way they run the business makes the grief so much worse. Any reasonable cost offered isn't worth the anxiety and hours of follow-up to get these folks to do their job at even a grade C level. read more

My wife and I along with my son and his family have purchased both mausoleum crypts and burial plots at Greenwood Memorial. Which once was a beautiful place has turned into a disgrace. As you enter the property off Patterson you will view which was once a beautiful pond, but not so much any more. The drain pipe is rotted out which means the water level is substantially lower than it should be. In the middle of the pond you will see what looks like a white gallon jug. I was told this is to mark where the wires are for the pond aeration system which has been missing for a long long time. When you drive up to the office you will see all the crooked parking signs which need to be straightened. What happened to the perpetual care fund??? It surly wouldn't cost that much to restore it to the beautiful place it once was. It was suggested to me to make a complaint to Virginia Attorney General but I don't believe that should be necessary, thank you read more

To prevent disappointment and heartache plan long in advance. I gave them over a week to install a plaque on my mother's niche only to find out on the date of her interment the plaque had not been installed. When asked why I was informed the screws were too short. I just didn't believe them and I was extremely disappointmented but the service had been planned and would continue. Now, I have been calling to find out if the plaque has been installed, and low and behold I can't get anyone on the phone. Since I interred my son some six years ago, the place is literally crumbling down and I am wondering if I should report this deterioration to higher authorities and if there is anything they can do about this. Our family secured a plot and vault years ago when granny was living inn Richmond. After her health deteriorated, family in southwestern VA took care of locating a nursing home and eventually a hospice care facility closer to additional family for support. The family decided that it would be more meaningful and easier to visit Granny's grave if she were buried in the old family cemetery on the farm where she was born and raised. Greenwood has refused to issue a full or partial refund and was completely uncooperative in working with the other cemetery in our family's time of grief. This is the last thing any family should have to worry with during this time. Don't do buisness with these swindlers who have NO concern for ethical business practices and care for families. read more

This has been the worst experience ever. My mother recently passed on in September. Even though we paid all fees in advance of her burial, we still do not have her date of death inscription on her marker. I have called on numerous occasions. I have even talked to the property manager.. No resolution. He no longer returns my calls. What in insensitive thing to do to a grieving family. I only want what we paid for. My family member was buried there in February. The place is a mess. Grass clippings cover all of markers. Construction debris alongside of road. Lake is filled w algae. They should be embarrassed by how bad it is. read more

It has been over two years and my loved one still does not have the Veteran's marker to mark the grave. No one will return my calls and when I call they will not answer. Greenwood is on the skids from what it used to be when I was a child. My family has four generations buried there. The grounds and pond used to be in much better condition. Used to feed the ducks that were there when I was 4 or 5. If you plan on putting flowers on the grave regularly and visiting often, the cemetery is not so good anymore. If you are just going to put somebody in a hole and never return, the place is good enough. read more

During a recent and complex situation they handled everything appropriately and professionally. (not something I'd like to parse out on the internet) Know that with Greenwood, you are in great hands. This cemetery does no maintenance on the grounds. The roads and sidewalks are cracked, and there are only weeds with ruts in the ground from equipment. The grass mowers hit the vases. All they seem to do is take your money for a burial, and they are done. Other cemeteries seem to be in good shape. The grounds are worse every month that I visit. Go somewhere else so you're not furious every time you come. read more

Very disappointed, replaced 2 large flower arrangements in September, could not visit in October because its a swamp when it rains, By November the 2 arrangements where gone. I called to see where they went.They said they were doing a flower clean up. I think it would have been nice to have been notified, so I could have removed them before they were thrown out!! My Dad is buried at Greenwood Memorial. He has been gone for 14 years. My experience then was what I felt was good. My understanding is they are under new ownership. My 85 year old Mother started receiving calls about someone visiting her to "review her paperwork?" I called both the cemetery and the woman (a salesperson) that had been trying to come to the house to visit. I told them specifically that they were NOT to come visit, that my brother and I would review the paperwork and call if we had any questions. Today a bill for $2,700 came in the mail. My Mom doesn't remember anyone coming by, but sees by her checkbook that she wrote someone a check for $140.00 back in June. Called today and was told I would have to speak to Barbara to see what the charge was for.... If you have older parents that have pre-paid for burial plots-beware that there are salespeople out there calling on them! read more

My mother passed away and was cremated last week. I picked up her ashes from the funeral home and tried to deliver them to Greenwood so that she could be laid in her plot that she purchased in 2004. I had recently paid the cost of the interment last year so when my mother passed away everything would be paid for and they would take care of the process when the time came....well.... that's not the case. We had no plans for a grave side service, it will be at our church. I just couldn't deliver her ashes that I just picked up from the funeral home, they very rudely told me I had to make an appointment for later in the week. They had no place to keep the container and just could not be bothered until I made an appointment. I did lose my temper, (this made me madder than anytime I could think of in my life) but they were extremely rude and had no understanding of what my family had gone through the last couple of years taking care of my mother. I guess they don't know or don't care if people are grieving, it's all about their convenience and probably the $$. Interesting they would not even let me in the office to discuss this issue, they made me stand outside on the porch (cold and raining) because of the COVID-19 and even berated me because I had forgot to wear my mask. I would never recommend Greenwood Memorial Gardens to anyone. read more

My brother is buried here. He was 30yrs old and his passing was unexpected. We planned the burial from Colorado and when we came home here Katherine helped us in the office. She was a little off putting but I figured that my nerves were just very sensitive at the time. When we came back 2 days after the funeral to choose a headstone we worked with her again. They then proceeded to contact my father for payments several times even though he made the payment right there on the spot to get the headstone ordered and was going to decide to make payments or pay in full. So what happened...nothing...they didn't order his headstone like they promised, even though within the month he made the entire payment in full. I've called, gone in, e-mailed, asked for the manager and without fail service has been horrible. I would not normally call someone a liar but in my experience I've been lied to since day one. The headstone is STILL NOT HERE and it was ordered in April supposedly...lie number 1, I was supposed to get book marks and they would call when then came in...lie number 2. Now that I refuse to speak with Katherine any longer I've gotten someone named Mary, who has not answered my e-mail yet again. I was told that it would take 2-3 MORE weeks for the headstone placement. 3 weeks is tomorrow and I am positive, since I can't get a response, that it will not be there as promised yet again. Don't even get me started with the thieving grounds crew. We buried him in the only section of the cemetery that we were told we could have a standing headstone and were allowed to plant items and basically make it nice for him. He has had every light fixture put there stolen or put back broken. I've been there 2 times and he has had a mound of dirt on his site from another burial. Do they have any idea how upsetting it is to have FRESH DIRT on his grave several times now. I am so disgusted with this place that if I could dig him up and move him I would...but it isn't up to me. My parents suffer in silence and call me for updates because they can't stand the thought of speaking with another person here who is just going to give them a load of crap. I would appreciate honesty, even if it was not the answer I wanted to hear at least don't lie. I truly believe every single person there needs to take a class in customer service and be tested to see if they have even an ounce of empathy...if not they are really in the wrong profession. I can tell you that Katherine does not have one ounce of empathy. I've been in the customer service field for over 25 years and I cannot fathom running a business as they seem to see fit to do. It is absolutely the worst place for people like these to work because they are dealing with people on the worst days of their lives. read more

I have several family members, including my husband, who are buried at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Last year I had numerous complaints and actually received a very nice response from the new management company assuring me that there were going to be BIG IMPROVEMENTS this spring. There are, and I am so appreciative. I went out today to visit my husband whose cremains bench is near the pond, and I was very impressed at the work being done. The entrances look good, the areas where there are brick walks have been greatly improved, and there is even a memorial area with benches that once was covered in vines, and that is now cleaned up. The only thing I would suggest is that they take a walk around the pond and gather up all the silk flowers and plastic items that have blown down to the pond. We have had tremendous winds over the past several months, and that mess is a result of the weather. I cleaned up the area around my husband's site, but it was too muddy to go closer to the pond.
