I was a customer of Gregg Mechanical. I trusted him and his company. I spend a lot of money having a brand new heating and air conditioning system installed. When I had a problem I called Gregg Mechanical only to find he is NO LONGER in business. The company is now associated with Home Serve. I have used Home Serve in the past and found them unsatisfactory. I thought I was in good hands with Gregg but he SOLD OUT, and left his loyal customers hanging. I am very disappointed at the man and his company not having the character, morals, or decency to give his clients a heads up so they would have time to try to find a decent replacement company for service. Gregg Mechanical installed my heating & a/c six years ago. The workers were knowledgeable and all the employees were very professional, so when I had a problem last week with my a/c I called Gregg Mechanical. MISTAKE! I called Monday morning and was informed the service call would be $150 for the first hour. I agreed and a repairman came to my house. After he arrived he informed me there was a $99 additional service charge. THIS IS BAIT AND SWITCH! Almost an hour later he said the problem was a bad pressure switch, which had to be ordered so he bypassed the switch so the a/c would work. The a/c stayed on for one hour. Another repairman was sent and told me there was no power going to the condenser. He went to the circuit breakers and told me I had a bad breaker and needed to call an electrician. I insisted on seeing the voltage meter, at this point the story changed. The breaker was okay but the previous repairman didn't put things back in the unit correctly which caused the problem. IF I LISTENED TO HIM I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR AN ELECTRICIAN WHEN ONE WASN'T NEEDED! The a/c worked for 30 minutes after he left. I called Gregg for a third time. A repairman was sent the next day who I recognized from my installation six years ago. The problem was a bad wet switch, which he placed and undid the bypass which wasn't necessary. The problem is this is no longer Greggs people coming to do the job. Unfortunately, the odds are you will get a "Home Service" repairman, who are as useful as "TEATS ON A BULL"! read more

I used them in 2018 to replace 2 25+ year old PTac units in my condo and today had a third. These units are expensive, but the folks at Gregg Mechanical are efficient, professional, yet friendly. The whole experience was simple....from getting price estimate over the phone, to a prompt on-time appointment for someone to come onsite and assess my needs, to on-time, clean, polite installation personnel -- who vacuumed and took the old unit and all garbage away with them. Highly recommended and I know when the 4th and final unit in my place goes....Gregg Mechanical will be who I call without hesitation. read more

Installed furnace incorrectly, does not show up for appointments. Worst place to deal with

RUN FROM GREGG MECHANICAL! They are now owned by HOME SERVE! A true horror to deal with. Home Serve makes service appointments that they do not keep! First I was told they had NO appointments available for my annual A/C check up BUT I have a service contract for a yearly check up for my AC, Heating and Hot water heater maintenance, called back after 5 days they found an appointment (Today) BUT they have left me the customer waiting for hours. They do not call back and when my husband called back after waiting 6 hours for the tech they told him I was contacted via text message about a reschedule NOT TRUE! Home Serve only has my home # which cannot accept texts. It took me numerous calls to get this appointment at all! My Husband called Home Serve when they missed the Noon deadline of an 8AM to Noon appt window today and was told he was next in line NOT that the appointment was cancelled. GREGG NEEDS TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS as does HOME SERVE! read more

Solicited quotes from several vendors to replace my 20 year old gas furnace and central air conditioning unit. Received a very professional, complete, detailed estimate from Gregg Mechanical Corp presented by General Manager, Gregg Gaal. I accepted the submitted price which was fair, reasonable and very competitive. Technicians Kenny and Mike installed the units, in mid March, quickly. neatly and very professional. They did a magnificent job in putting these complicated units and associated duct work together. I highly recommend this company. read more

I received an estimate from Gregg Mechanical a few weeks ago to have ductless air conditioners installed. I was very impressed by this company's professionalism. They were on time. The owner came to my house and thoroughly explained what needed to be done. He had the estimate to me the next day. I was very impressed. I had another estimate from his competitor and I received lousy service. Gregg came afterwards and it was refreshing to deal with him. It is nice to know that customer service is not dead on Staten Island. read more

WOW!!! After 20 years of having this company and after having spent over $30,000 in heating and A/C upgrades, they have apparently merged with Home Serve. It took 2 days of calling them (at Gregg Mechanicals number) to get in touch with a person who finally admitted they company is no longer a stand alone company. My service contracts seem to have vanished into thin air. I asked about service and was quoted a crazy price. The rep on the phone then explained pricing for the contracts they offer, which I have always had, and those prices were reasonable. HOWEVER, he would not let me sign up for it because I had just called to say I needed someone to look at my system. No questions on why I was calling. He just said "no" to me getting the service contract. No questions as to if the system was even turning on. SHAME ON HOME SERV FOR THE WAY THEY TREATED ME. AND SHAME ON GREGG MECHANICAL IN STATEN ISLAND FOR TREATING A LONGTIME CUSTOMER IN THIS MANNER. read more

I woke up to a dead steam boiler on Christmas morning. I spent the next couple of days getting proposals to replace my boiler while trying to heat my house with space heaters. Gregg came by personally to prepare a quote and while he was here he showed me how to fire the boiler manually and got us heat temporarily until we could replace the unit. Gregg's proposal was not the lowest but well under the highest. Their work was exemplary and they talked me out of expensive unnecessary work that I had asked about. Not only was the quality of work exceptional but their admin work was great too. They provided me with a package at the end of the job with all of my warranty and rebate info already completed. Later that evening I received a follow up call from Gregg to make sure we were happy and warm. Suffice to say I can't recommend this firm enough. read more

3/6/14- My gas furnace was not working so I called this business. I have a lennox brand furnace. The company charges an $80.00 Diagnostic fee on top of the repair. The Technican came and was professional and Diagnosed the problem correctly. He changed the Capacitor for the furnace. He charged me $107.12 for the part for a total of $187.012. The part was not a lennox brand part but definitely an aftermarket part. I checked online and repair clinic.com charges $10.95 for the part. Sears which is always expensive charges $32.74 for the part. To be charged $107.12 for that part is "PRICE GOUGING" at it's greatest. I would not recommend this company. read more

my bill was $1550. one technician was at my business for 3 hours, my estimate for the wholesale costs of the parts would be between $ 200 & $ 300, 6 lbs of refrigerant and some plastic shotoff valves. if you feel that $ 425 per hour for one qualified teck is good value than gregg mechanical is for you. Also the year before they replaced a flame ignitor for a gas heating unit, part $225, plus labor charges, I later bought a spare on line for $ 25. I can change this part Myself. read more
