Ordered fish n chips, which were delicious! I had sweet potato fries (my dinner mate had traditional). They were wavy cut and crispy on the outside and soft as they should be inside. Stole a regular fry and same great taste there as well. The fish was also nice and crispy yet not one bit of greasy. Beautiful white flaky fish -I think it's cod - but it doesn't matter was delicious and one of the best fish n chips I've had in a long time and being a new englander, I've had my share! I used to be a regular here before I moved out of state and now I make it one of my frequent flyer foodie stops when I am back here visiting. My last visit months ago was exactly as I expected, the rolls and those killer pickles came out right away and everything was delicious. The Mediterranean Salad with calamari is ridiculously good and they definitely don't skimp on the good stuff! They have some good daily specials but I'm usually on the lobster roll which is outstanding or the scrod or really good scallops. If I'm not too seafood-minded I might grad one of their Italian dishes or sandwiches. They give you some kind of reward for every 300 points you earn, but alas not for me :-( Bottom line: This is a well-rounded restaurant, good value with big portions, not fancy, but the staff is very good, the food is great and it's got a little something for everybody. *PROS: Consistently good, Gregg's Warwick location is my "go-to place" when I'm craving good homestyle cooking at a reasonable price. The waitstaff is pleasant and helpful, and they seem happy to be working there. It's clean and comfortable. The newer tavern side is beautiful; the restrooms are reliably clean and well-stocked; and there's plenty of parking including an additional lot next door. Even better, you can easily accrue points on their Gregg's customer card which can add up nicely to help pay for a future purchase. And of course, the desserts are their claim to fame (Custard Pie is my favorite). If you show up at a gathering carrying a Gregg's box, you'll always see smiles. *CONS: Once, many years ago, the broccoli was a little undercooked for my taste, but that was an easy fix, and the way they serve it now is perfect. Giving 3 stars because it must have been bad timing. I had been wanting a piece of their apple pie for days and finally went on Sunday. Got the slice home and then the disappointment started. The pie wasn't as tall as shown in pictures, or how I remembered it (shrink-flatiron?) and worst of all, the inside was barely cooked. The apples were still raw, tasted like they had soaked in lemon juice for hours, and since the sugar hadn't really dissolved, the only answer is it wasn't baked properly. Unless it's a sign of not being able to cook enough to keep up with demand and quality goes out the window. read more

This restaurant has been around since 1972 and I first visited in 1987. So this visit was a trip down memory lane. Could it still be the same? YUP!!! I was so pleasantly surprised. The meals were tasty and the portions were very good. I had the burger with roasted peppers on a toasted bruschetta roll. This was a very moist and tasty burger with crispy fries. My friend had the pastrami burger which meant a hefty amount of pastrami on a large burger. This was an amazing sized sandwich. His Cole slaw was meh. His wife ordered a salad to save room for the dessert. This place has great food but it really is known for their bodacious desserts. They are super large portions and out of this world. My friend 's wife ordered The Death by Chocolate and I had the Peanut Butter Cheesecake. It was good time saved room the desserts. So I'm generally all about checking out interesting or unique places, but sometimes the need arises to have a meal with children after a visit to a museum. During such instances, I prefer to not be side-eyed by patrons without children, so when a friend suggested visiting Greggs because of its vast menu and child-friendly environment, I was all about it. We had five kids and three adults, so we were outnumbered from the get-go. We immediately apologized to our server, and she said we had nothing to apologize for, which was nice to hear. The kids were immediately presented with placemats and crayons, and I was thankfully presented with an Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. Cheers! The kids had perfect kids meals which they, in typical kids fashion, did not eat. They were great portions and quality nonetheless! My fellow adult dining companions had a gigantic lobster roll and a turkey club sandwich, which if not for my vegetarianism, would have been super appealing, as they were pretty substantial looking. I enjoyed a veggie wrap and it was just what the doctor ordered, with cooked veggies, a dressing of some sort, and melty cheese. The service was prompt and friendly, and the prices were decent. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again, but if I ever find myself with kids in tow without a brewery in mind, I wouldn't be hesitate to swing by for a meal. Thick, Soft middle, crunchy edges, More butter & sugar in the base than flour, Tons chocolate chips that melt perfectly -- 30 seconds in the microwave and you're golden! In the past I would've given this restaurant a five star rating. Mike and I went to the other day for lunch and it was just not good all around. We were seated by the hostess in an area that was packed with people and I had to ask for a booth away from the crowd. She wasn't wearing a mask and Covid is out there so I was concerned. I was seated and Mike took a phone call in the lobby. I sat and waited and waited and waited. No one came and greeted me or brought water or asked if I wanted something to drink. There were no pickles or bread. Finally a waitress hollered out that she would be with me and she finally came. Before she even got there the hostess had taken our drink order but did not have time to deliver it. Mike and I ordered lunch. He got the French onion soup and it was brought to the table absolutely boiling and bubbling. They said it was right from the oven but I would never serve somebody a soup that was boiling. There's just something wrong with that. The pickles didn't taste right but that could've been just our taste. We never did get the rolls. I ordered a salad and it had avocado in it which I love. The avocado was almost translucent. It was obvious that it wasn't fresh and when I asked about it I was told that it came out of a container and it was in some kind of brine. Disgusting. Mike got the chicken dish with grilled vegetables and it had no flavor. I had some of mine and he ate some of his and we left. I will not be in a hurry to come back again. read more

This is my favorite Gregg's. I've been to the one in East Providence and avoid that one. Their Warwick location is newer, has young people and families eating there, and their food comes out hot. I brought my family and they accommodated us quickly. They added a very large section in the back which is about the same size as the front. My experiences with Gregg in the East Providence location was always simple foods with minimal spices and low level service. With Warwick - i was impressed with Nicholas he was engaging and completely honest as far as what was great and what wasn't so great. He helped us make some great choices. Their fried pickles is the best - wasn't overly salty. Their bread came out blasting hot. They had what i call happy foods. I ordered their Rueben sandwich burger. The pastrami was beautiful and tender. Their beef was a basic patty - i would be impressed if it had a hint of angus - nonetheless it was a very basic burger. The meals were really cooked with precision and love - it had a home cooked feel to it. I was informed that the head chef was working that day. The desserts were heavenly - from their custard pie, their warm apple stuff hmmm, and cheesecake are all very calculated ways to end a good meal. read more

After so many years, I have narrowed my choices of what I think is good here and now these are the few things I always order for lunch or dinner. If I deviate from this list, I am always disappointed! * Fresh turkey club sandwich with 2 pieces of bread and either onion rings or french fries cooked longer than normal so they are done. Always a winner! * Regular Hamburger , medium rare, with lettuce and tomato and FF or onion rings. Surprisingly they have a really good burger. Is it artisan and special? No, but i't s a good hamburger. * Fish and Chips - Yummy fresh fish but sometimes way to much batter ....then not so good * NE Clam Chowder - sometimes it's very good and sometimes it gummy with no flavor * Lobster salad roll or salad - Pretty good! Fresh, decent portion, and way better than many places - and it's always on the menu * Chocolate Layer cake - tradition. Chocolate Decadent is too chocolaty for me but this one is perfect. Not too sweet and always fresh. *Chocolate Eclair - Actually uses custard as the filling , not Bavarian cream or another version. Weighs a ton and is great to share! A solid place to go when your family says "Let's just go to Gregg's." It's a simple place, the wait staff has been consistently kind and attentive, and of course the pickles are plentiful. The food is not great, but it is okay. It has that corner-cutting taste that begs for the simple attention of salt & pepper. Frozen vegetable medleys, the taste of boxed mashed potatoes (if not actual mashed potatoes) and a dry protein. This is a dessert place, and since I've heard those are purchased wholesale it's hard to say there's anything that makes Gregg's unique. But if the family wants to go to Gregg's, it's familiar, so why not? read more

We stopped for a late lunch/early dinner for our family with a guest and our 4 kids. We came at this time because it was convenient after a family outing to the zoo and on our way home. This was about 8 or 9 months ago so I'm not sure what the server's name was but he was a younger guy who was very friendly and accommodating and didn't seem to mind our fussy toddler at all. Even though it was at an odd time the service was excellent and the food was great as well. I'm always impressed when that happens because most servers seem to not be very happy with our table full of children but this one didn't give off that same feeling we were expecting. The overall feel of the restaurant was great especially considering the odd time but the service was excellent as was our meal. But for apps, I also love the Jordan's Cheese Fries (get the extra house ranch dressing!) This location also has a newly remodeled pub area with a beautiful bar, high tops and booths. I absolutely love the desserts from Gregg's. We get our cakes from there for family birthdays almost exclusively. I do have to say however that I was a little disappointed by the cake I picked up today for my mom's birthday. I ordered in advance and asked them to write "Happy Birthday Mom". When I took out the cake I saw that they had used a light yellow icing, on a white background, so it was hard to see. It was also lemon flavored, which was not a pleasant contrast to the flavor of the cake. I feel like they just used whatever icing they had leftover to write on the cake, without giving it any thought. I'll be sure to specify the color and flavor of icing the next time I ask for writing on one of their cakes. read more

Disappointed and Declining.. I would like to preface this review by saying that it is disappointing to write and brings me sorrow. As a patron of Gregg's for over 20 years and one who views it as a Rhode Island food institution this is painful to write. I have a plethora of fond memories at Warwick location but it's just that this experience was so disappointing I felt inclined to write a review. What I ordered wasn't anything extravagant or complicated, I just wanted a quick and decent take out meal. However, this is one take out meal I wish I didn't bother with. I ordered a Chicken tender dinner (Yes, feel free to judge me by my childish taste.) with a side salad and order of French onion soup. I decided to start with my side salad and that's when I knew things were going to end poorly.. I noticed the top layer of lettuce was brown/gray and visibly looked old and not particularly fresh.. I then looked to the cherry tomatoes which were shriveled up and definitely not in there prime. I looked to the cucumber which was also shriveled up and rubbery.. At that point, rather than pick through it or attempt to eat it, I promptly returned it to the bag for disposal where it belonged. After a disappoint start, I figured why not move to the soup. Both starters can't be bad right? Wrong.. The soup wasn't even soup... It had more stale bread and onions in it than it did actual broth.. It was more of a bread and onion stew with how thick it was from the lack of broth.. The cheese was also barely melted.. After navigating through the mush that was my "soup". I finally had a taste and it wasn't what I remember it to be. The flavor was definitely off and tasted pretty heavy handed with either the the sherry wine, the Worcestershire sauce or both.. Lastly the chicken tenders.. I get it they're thrown in the fryer and that's it.. But would it have been to much to ask for them to be at least warm.. I'm not even talking hot.. I got to them and they were room temperature at best.. Granted I live less than 8 minutes away from the Warwick location it still felt like the nail in the coffin to this experience. Genuinely speaking the only solid part of this meal was the ranch dipping sauce for the tenders.. That was exactly how I remember and still very tasty. Unfortunately Gregg's I wont be back for sometime, until the quality goes back up to what it was before.. read more

Gregg's pickles!! Yum yum yum a must have if you are a pickle lover. Now they have them fried!!! I haven't been in awhile but thought it was a great place to take my mom. Nostalgic!! I do have to say the service use to be better!! There are a bunch of young kids congregating and socializing instead of checking on their tables. A big turn off to new diners but the older diners don't mind it. This is probably why the average age of the diner here is 60. read more

Went there for lunch today. Burgers tasted like they were precooked and just heated up. I requested pickles and raw onion. I got sautéed onions and their pickles, which were cut as thick as cucumber slices. Apparently, they don't have dill pickles for your burger. What?? My pastrami Reuben was awful. I could tell that they microwaved the meat. I ordered onion rings and they were cold. My husband got the chicken pot pie and it was mushy and he could not eat it. We spoke to the manager and he did take both items off the bill and he comped the desert but I Just had the apple crisp, apples were hard so I threw it out. I won't be back. read more

This is not what I remember. It had been a while since I visited last. I would call this bar grade food unfortunately. Pros: amazing desserts, which we did not get this time. Awesome pickles! Good bread. The kids got mac n cheese, reg fries and chicken tenders. They weren't terrible. The ladder 2 frozen food for sure. Hard to mess those up. Cant expect too much from the kids menu. MIL got Burger- was okay at best Wife got BLT - she could not even eat it. She asked for crispy bacon. It was close to uncooked and bad tomatoes. Grossed out. Her sweet potato fries were too soggy to eat. I got a fish which wasnt too bad. Frozen broccoli and fries for sure Definitely more frozen items than I would have thought from a sit down family restaurant. Not top impressed. I likely won't be back unfortunately. A great tradition for our family. We often drive up to the Providence area from CT and have to pass right by Gregg's. The menu is pretty intimidating- so many pages. We generally skip the appetizers and try not to eat the bread. The food is always very good but the reality is we expect to eat only about half of it so we can get a dessert- the whole reason to be here. This trip there was strawberry shortcake, blueberry pie, and the always delicious death by chocolate. Everything was awesome as usual. read more

If you're looking for great food, portions, and service with a dash of home-cooking, this is the place for you! We were actually attempting to go to Iggy's, but after being told of the 1 hour wait, we dejectedly sulked around for another dinner spot, and luckily found Gregg's. Now, I know most of you Rhode Islanders are probably thinking, "Gregg's is just a chain restaurant staple here and it's nothing special." Well, I'm not from around here and was pleasantly surprised by how good this place was. Or maybe that's not what RI people think, and they actually say, "Gregg's is effing delicious so your ignorance is overwhelming." What I mean to say is that now I am a believer and I will follow this gravy train to the end. The four of us were irresponsibly loud and obnoxious, probably even moreso than the six middle school kids sitting next to us. We ordered four main dishes and like five desserts. If we didn't have health problems walking in, we sure had them coming out. I ordered the prime rib, which was massive (there was a huge glob of fat, which I know some people dislike, but that's like the best part). I wasn't super impressed by the baked potato, but everything else was spot on. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake, boston creme pie, the chocolate mousse, apple crisp a la mode, and the very last lava cake of the season (at allllll the Gregg's muhaha). OMG the desserts here blew my mind. Each one was huge and amazing, just overflowing with excellence. Our server (Adam, I think), was fantastic and never seemed annoyed by our immaturity and went along with our ridiculous behavior (hats off to you dude). My fiancé and I love taking road trips, so when a coworker mentioned how much she was looking forward to a trip back home to Rhode Island to have the most amazing cake for her birthday from Gregg's, my ears instantly perked up. Knowing that we were on a mission for dessert, when we finally made the trip, we decided to share the appetizer platter and then go straight for the cake. The appetizers tasted great and consisted of 4 pieces each of mozzarella sticks, potato skins, chicken fingers, and onion rings. Everything tasted really fresh and crispy, and you can't go wrong with any of those items. Our server Alex was AMAZING and deserves 10 stars for her personality and service alone. She hooked us up with a bunch of different dipping sauces for the platter and was always at the ready when we needed her without being overbearing. But let's be honest, you're probably reading this to find out about the cake. Coming from NYC, we could get good cake from a lot of places, but I really enjoyed the cake from Gregg's. It's super moist and the perfect balance of textures and flavor. I had the chocolate mousse cake, and the creaminess of the mousse paired well with the tender cake slices that sandwiched it. It did not taste overly sweet, and it was perfect for me as I thought Death by Chocolate would be too much. My honey had the raspberry coconut cake. Again the cake was moist, but it had a lot more sugar in the frosting and jam than I bargained for. My guy has a huge sweet tooth, so he loved it, but it wasn't quite my style. It tasted like a piña colada, so if you're into those (which he is!), you'll probably enjoy it. We ordered a slice of cheesecake for a friend back home who orders cheesecake from a lot of places, and he said it was "dynamite," so I'm guessing that's also a winner. And finally we also bought an entire toffee crunch cake for another friend's birthday. The toffee crunch cake was highly recommended by our server and my coworker. Alex made sure the cake got decorated with candles and confetti sprinkles, and it made a great impression when we presented it at the party. The cake was moist, and the frosting had a whipped quality that made it light and not overpowering, and there wasn't a ton of it piled onto the cake, which I prefer. Nothing more to say but the food is delicious but the desserts are to die for! We drive from CT to RI to bring a friend from RI every year for his birthday. We have the nicest time as the waitresses are terrific. Our waitress even helped me surprise my friend with a birthday cupcakes! And they never hurry us even though we take up space for more than 2 hours. Love Greg's and we'll be back again next June! read more

I usually don't like cake but a coworker of mine brought this cake into work and I absolutely fell in love. I knew I was in trouble when I realized the Warwick location is only 8 minutes away from me. When I have my "treat myself" days, I find myself ordering a slice of cake to pickup. It also lasts forever, it's a huge slice. Since it's so flavorful, I usually have a few bites per sitting. I highly recommend getting their cake!
