Newport creamery is Newport creamery. Some people hate it but honestly, you should know what you're getting into when you go there. The food is exactly how you'd expect. I actually love the super crunchy grilled cheese and the buffalo chicken waffles grilled cheese. Their ice cream is great too. This visit was just a father and daughter night out for ice cream. The place was maybe a third occupied and we sat down at a table to enjoy a sundae. I ended up with a banana split which was a dripping a trail to the table. That use the smallest vessel to make the banana split and it couldn't contain all the toppings. I ordered a Loaded Twisted Fry and buffalo wings to-go, but got a plain fry, no ranch or blue cheese, and the wings came in a box whose bottom was covered in buffalo sauce, so when I pulled them out, the sauce got all over me and ruined most of my napkins. I had to turn my car around and drive back 5 minutes just to fix their mistake. When I asked for cheese and bacon, the employee said she needed a manager--wasting even more of my time. Then they tried to charge me again because she "misunderstood" me. Mind you, I had already left a $10 tip. For a simple to-go order, this level of service is unacceptable. I always loved Newport Creamery , never a bad experience. I've always had pleasant waitresses until I had the rather tall and large waitress serve my grandson and I for breakfast. She was very unpleasant to us. My grandson who's five is a charmer and even his smiles didn't help with her sour face. He asked for the Cookie Monster cookie to be put on the side rather than on top of the ice cream. He was taking the cookie home for his brother. That waitress said in a stern face she didn't know if she could do that. She makes the kiddie Cookie Monster sundae, of course she could do it. So we went here because we had to get an Awful Awful for the local challenge. We went up to the outside window which was wonderful to have because we still don't go into restaurants and rarely go inside stores. So I always appreciate it when stores go out of the way to make me feel safe. Newport Creamery is one of those places that has always had this window and so I was very happy to have that as one of the choices for our challenge. Mike up the awful awful because I'm on a diet. He was a little disappointed because he said it was smaller than what he remembered. But I don't know if it's because it was truly smaller than they used to make them or if he just was younger and thought things look bigger. But anyway he got a sugar-free ice cream in it which was really a nice option. And he absolutely loved it because shakes are his favorite thing so it was a great experience for us both. read more

This is the best Newport Creamery, hands done. I've been coming here for years and almost always leave delighted. In years past there may have been some issues with service, but we just ate there on a very busy Friday night and I have to say everyone was working their butts off. But the best part is that the crew that was working seemed to be having a good time, spinning and hustling, helping each other and just doing a great job. I've been to other Newport Creameries where the staff look miserable and have no pep in their step. Coventry NC is the complete opposite. The food and ice cream were excellent as always. I ordered the veggie breakfast wrap only to have a cold wrap come to the table (30 minutes later) WITH ONLY A GARDEN SALAD INSIDE. ' She was so was incredibly confused by this + took it back and then I watched as the other 14 year old 'chef' tried to figure out what I ordered by looking at the menu. Then the waitress went over to the manager who yelled at her and said 'that has eggs' and we are 'no longer serving breakfast'... oh why? MAYBE because it took YOU over an HOUR to figure out what the BREAKFAST WRAP was? No one came over to our table--nothing was offered in replacement and I STILL HAD TO PAY FOR MY ICE COFFEE. What a joke. To top it all off my fave part was the 'side' of mandarin oranges. WHICH is clearly just one of those small packaged cups you can buy from Wal-Mart dumped into a bowl. Went there last night and the place is full of children that don't work. It was around 820 when we ordered and we didn't get our food until after 9 so we had to ask to get it to go. It wasn't busy at all. The place was a disaster. It took until 850 for the kid that was making our food to even start making it. He was wearing headphones. All the little children working were eating and drinking behind the counter. They had their friends there hanging out at the high top tables and they were eating with them. The kid cooking had headphones on. The manager that was working tried to say something once to them and all the little kids hanged up on him. The place is disgusting and they definitely don't follow sanitation standards. We got home and the food was inedible and made incorrectly. We literally got 6 fries with each sandwich that was made with disgusting ingredients and whatever was left over. Absolutely not going back ever read more

We both ordered an awful awful, as the slogan goes awful big, awful good, it was very good. We waited 20 minutes for our server to come to our table to take our order, she appologized for the wait. Then we waited another 40 minutes to get our food. I ordered the big beef cheeseburger the creamery way which is served on toasted bread not a hamburger roll along with french fries, my meal was cooked to perfection as far as creamerys go, my wife had the tuna melt with onion rings and she was satisfied with her meal. Establishment was clean and comfortable, staff was friendly, the only complaint I have both times we visited, is the waiting, the place was not busy at the time. Newport Creamy has been around since 1928 and still exists to this day, that already says something about the business. The food is delectable and has fair pricing (I'd give it 2/4 for cost). Dessert is the main focus and has been since they opened, with that being said the deep fried Twinkie is a must when ordering. With the restaurant in Coventry (maybe in other establishments as well)pictures are hung around the perimeter of the establishment to recognize the distinctive history that Newport Creamy has. I am giving this 4/5 stars because I feel as though the specials are lacking. For example they could do autumn/winter specials or even seasonal desserts every now and then. It will definitely give you something to look forward to on your next visit. Other than that this place is a must try. read more

The 1st time, there were very few people in there, but waitress said the wait would be at least 45 minutes. We left. The second time (remember, half capacity, even) you have a single waitress running around like a chicken with her head cut off. YOU NEED ANOTHER WAITRESS!!!! It was probably 20 minutes before we even got the drink order in. Asked for cream and sugar, only got cream. Asked for onions as she was flying by, but got no onions. Asked for malt vinegar, got regular vinegar. $2.69 for coffee is ok if you get a refill, but never got one because she didn't have time to stop and ask. In the meantime another couple walked out without being served. Before leaving, we stopped in the ice cream area to buy a half gallon. After waiting 15 minutes to try and pay, an older lady who was slow as molasses (she works there??) looked at us and said "it'll be awhile." My husband said never mind, and walked out without the ice cream. In the meantime, 4 more people are behind me waiting for ice cream. This is a managerial fault----one waitress??? We continue to come here because we enjoy the menu, but I'm giving two stars because we have never experienced good service. You walk in and there's a sign saying to wait to be seated, and then you get to awkwardly stand there while four or five employees watch you from behind the counter pretending they didn't see you. When you're finally seated you can expect a substantial delay for a waitress. This is a guarantee. However today's visit prompted me to write a review because we found out fifteen minutes after ordering a Belgian waffle sundae that the cooks had already shut off the waffle machine. We arrived forty minutes before closing time. Very disappointed at the lack of professionalism there. And as a side note...there were four waitstaff on, and we heard every single one apologize to at least one of their customers.
