Their old Hollywood cake was probably the best cake I have ever had. I am absolutely obsessed. All of their desserts are fabulous.

Despite living in RI for a huge chunk of RI this was my first time eating at a Gregg's. My family's allegiance lies with a different similarly sized local hometown chain. My friend's are obsessed with the death by chocolate cake and the Gregg's pickles. I will say those pickles are delicious and I love that you get them with bread when you sit down. Five stars for the pickles. We started with the spinach and cheese dip which was tasty. My son really enjoyed the white clam chowder. I got the turkey dinner and it was good. Everything was good, nothing crazy. I actually don't love the death by chocolate shake (which I know is blasphemy to some), but I will say that carrot cake was delicious. Going for a meal at Gregg's has many freebies....popcorn, pickles, hot dinner rolls......just need to ask for them if they don't come promptly at your table. The quesadillas at Gregg's are about average. I usually put some salsa or hot sauce to bring it up a notch. The last one I had had a nice crispy tortilla enrobing a nice melted center full of gooey cheese. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. For the last 30 years I've ordered carrot cake and it's frosted on the outside. Never had to special order it. A few years back I ordered a slice and it didn't come with frosting on the outside. Why? Not sure. Every single cake is frosted all around. Why is this one not frosted now? So I always just got a side of frosting to frost it myself. Now today I went to order a slice and they inform me I cannot buy a side of frosting. Only a pint. And the lady on the phone "assured me they never came frosted unless special ordered". Which is funny because I can see my order history and photos from birthdays for the last many years and always came frosted. We've been here twice and the first time was because our sons middle school had a fundraiser here so of course, we had to support it! Amazing service and delicious food! This spacious restaurant boasts large interior rooms and a newly built expansive outdoor covered deck with a large bar. This RI staple is known for its wide selection of pub food and decadent mouthwatering desserts. Sorely lacking though are gluten free options. I ordered strawberry avocado salad, and they accommodated my request for romaine lettuce in lieu of mixed greens. The avocado was the perfect texture and color- no brown spots which I appreciated. My son ordered a burger and fries. He said it was a run of the mill tasting burger. Our server was pleasant. She listened attentively to our orders but didn't clear the dirty dishes from the table. Ordinarily, that's not a huge deal but today there were bees on the deck so my empty pickle dish attracted them. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'll definitely be back. I've been in the food business just shy of 30 years now, FYI. I've seen my share of dirty, sloppy places with poor pest control. I can spot mouse $hit a mile away... Wednesday night my family went to Gregg's in NK for a quick dinner. What we saw that night really ruined our appetites... it took 10-15 minutes for them to "find me" a White Claw in their basement only to have a mouse right on top. By the time they cracked it and it arrived, the water soluble poop already started to break down due to the carbonation. They told me that 3 different employees handled my beverage prior to me receiving it, and nobody saw this... In addition we were seated 70' from the nearest bar and we were literally swarmed with gnats/fruit flies. They built this outdoor patio then proceeded to neglect every single thing INSIDE the building. Look at those walls I gave the ownership and management an opportunity to fix this. The owner called me the following day and said I could come take a look at their pest control log and I agreed that I wanted to meet him in person very soon. He said he is 99% sure this is NOT mouse droppings. After him offering me a gift card to dine again in his establishment, I said no thanks, I said I was all set as my family no longer would eat there. After he heard this and that I didn't want a gift card, he promptly said "okay Paul, have a good day" and he hung up on me. Be very leary of eating at this place. Just saying. read more

do not order the turkey dinner. while they claim it's popular and very good, it is not. the turkey is not hot & they try to camouflage it by putting warm gravy on top. the same with the stuffing. (not the first time i've had it but kept hoping there was a chef on duty who took pride in their food.) most important.....do not, do not get what they call strawberry shortcake! it is a disgrace. whoever makes it should be ashamed to serve it. it us a piece of yellow cake cut in half with whip cream in the center, cake on top, whip cream and then 2 strawberries on top.....nothing in the middle absolutely nothing but the whip cream. if they have a chef that calls themselves a baker he needs to go back to school or he can just go on line and look at what a strawberry shortcake looks like, or how it is prepared. every single one has strawberries and whip cream in the center. big rip off. waste of money & manager on duty was not receptive, all she had were excuses. she was certainly not concerned with the complaint and all she said "i will let the owner know" i will never return. and i'm sure the owner is not interested in one review. but do not try any dessert. go get the best strawberry shortcake at a good bakery or better still at wright's dairy..... read more

The food was very good and the waitress was great. However, some prices on the menu did not correspond to those printed on our tabs. The tab bills showed three different items which cost more on our tab receipt than printed on the actual menu! We brought it to the attention of the manager who did not give any valid reason for this disturbing discrepancy. She did however, give us our overpayment of the items on the tab. Lesson learned: check your tab and make sure those items reflect the printed menu items. read more

So nice to be in Rhode Island again and eat at a place I'd frequent when I lived here. Took my daughter-in-law for lunch here. I ordered the tuna sandwich with onion rings. The sandwich was perfect, not over mayonnaised, which I would have hated. Onion rigs plentiful, crispy and hot! We sat in their outside area, a bit chilly for this time of year, but nice to be in the fresh air. Our server was ok. A bit slow, but in her defense, I think she was the only one working this outdoor area. Cost was no higher than anywhere else you'd go for a decent lunch! But quality and most especially quantity have both gone way down. I've always felt confident suggesting Gregg's for a lunch with friends or an early dinner. Not so much anymore. We had supper at Gregg's several weeks ago --- having not been to Greggs in 20+ years. It was NOT a good experience... We had a great waitress who was managing 3/4 of the seated tables. I ordered a Reuben with coleslaw and fries. NOTE: Once a year I "allow" myself to have this, usually making ours at home. Well, after this, we're back to that! The Corned Beef had the appearance of Spam and was just slammed onto the rye bread. The Swiss Cheese - oh my. Remnants were found on the bread. And let me tell you this was NOT an inexpensive option. I chose not to eat my meal... My husband ordered the beef sirloin tip pie, which looked as though it had been taken from a Banquet pot pie box and put on his dish. His sides were limp and unappealing. Truly, I am rather shocked at our experience, though I must admit I have heard through the grapevine that the restaurant has gone down hill. Well, we found that to be true. It wasn't clean, which, in my opinion, meant it had been left this way from early on. I rarely offer a negative review (I did start out with a positive vote for our waitress!)... we chose not to make a big shabam about this and took our remains of the meal home, quickly placing such in the trash container. We DID let our waitress know and she was most apologetic - not her fault. Again, we will not return to Greggs for any occasion, even if invited. I had a lobster roll with sweet potato fries. The lobster was fresh, in big chunks, and not drowned in mayo, served on a buttery toasted roll. The sweet potato fries were excellent as well. Dessert was chocolate layer cake - the best chocolate cake around, iconic in fact. Had to take half of it home. Our waitress, Faye, was attentive but not overbearing. I was in this Greggs location saturday night and watched the buss boy clean a table that some patrons just left. He used a wet rag to wipe everything down and it certainly did not disinfect the table. This is how the viruses spread at these eating places. The floor was dirty with trash on it and the utensils were not washed properly. Always bring alcohol wipes or some kind of disinfectants when you go here as they do not clean the tables properly. How difficult is it to have a disinfectant spray bottle and paper towels to wipe down the tables and seating areas before the next guest uses it? read more

I am so tired of any take out order my husband and I get being wrong on so many levels. I ordered grilled shrimp with wild rice and sides. My husband brought the food home and there's no wild rice. He called them and whoever answered said we didn't know you wanted rice. Well, why didn't you? I heard my husband place the order. If there was any confusion they had his phone #, all they had to do was call. My husband went back to get the rice and by the time he came home of course the other food was cold. Not surprising. I don't think I will ever go there again. You people need to get it together. Almost 3/4 of the meals we've had that were take out in the last year and a half have been wrong. Bob you need to check out your restaurants if you want to keep your clientele happy. The cooks dry out the grilled chicken every time. After reading the reviews I was a little worried to come here, but I decided I had to decide for myself if I would like Gregg's. Right off the bat service was very friendly, and got our pickles right away . We asked for bread too but didn't get that until we asked again but that's okay it was semi-busy for covid and it was late so no worries. The fries were delicious I wish I didn't have such a small bowel so I could eat more. I got the chicken and biscuits. I expected gravy not pot pie innards. That was my fault for not knowing. When it came out I felt like I was an old lady in a nursing home. Although I didn't like it, I did enjoy the feeling of being elderly. Giving me a taste of the future. Bland and comforting.
