This place is terrible. I don't suggest anyone even considering waking into this garbage. The front man is always moody and gives off the impression that he doesn't want you there, let along he needs your business. They are overwhelming overpriced and the job isn't really spectacular for the type of charge. Pass by the shop on the regular and decided to call ahead to see if they can take me for a state inspection. Owner Greg picked up and asked what make and model to see if it can be done in time whole shop is open. Got there in 5 minutes and was greeted by him, said I would be the next car to be inspected. I had been a loyal customer for nearly a decade but I will never bring my vehicle here ever again. I needed an inspection and my wiper blades were malfunctioning. When I picked my car up I was told that I should take it to the dealership for the wipers, and I also needed work done on my breaks. I opted to have Gregg do the work on my breaks a few days later, and waited a few weeks until I brought my car to Mazda since there seemed to be no sense of urgency. As soon as the Mazda service advisor opened my hood, I could tell what was wrong - there was a giant rodent's nest and the critters had chewed through the electrical. I was told that the car was unsafe to drive, and thus began a long and expensive repair (several weeks and 10k worth of damage). Gregg said NOTHING about this and in fact downplayed the issue. There is no way it could have been overlooked - it was glaringly obvious even to me and I know very little about cars. I could have been killed or seriously injured. I got a flat tire when we were going through a bad cold snap. I called another place and they were unable to help as it was too cold and they were busy with other work. I called Gregg's Tire & Auto and spoke with Gregg. He initially said he didn't think he could work on it right away and when I mentioned I had to use the car to get to a few doctor's appointments, he asked how fast I could get there as he was about to finish another car. I went straight there and they took my car in right away and quickly fixed the flat. They even helped me with another issue in replacing one of the fuses. Came here to get a routine car inspection. The manager Gregg himself at the desk told me I should drop my car off and come back in the afternoon and that he has "other work to do before me." I asked how long it would take and he said an hour. I asked him if I had to sign anything and then he told me to go somewhere else. Apparently this interaction of figuring out getting a simple car inspection was beneath his time. I've gone other places and has this done in 15 minutes as my car is relatively new. Had work done here for two different cars. Gregg is pretty much a no BS kind of guy that tells ya what the deal is. Seems honest and not trying to nickel and dime you. For example, I needed some brake work and he showed me that I needed the rotors and calipers but not the pads. Pads are easy and cheap enough that most people would tell you to change them, too, but he saved me a few bucks. There are "cheaper" places around town but not sure I'd trust them. read more

I brought my car to Gregg after I received a few recommendations from friends who bring their cars to him, saying he was an honest guy who does good work. Another mechanic I went to prior said I needed a job done on my car which was fairly expensive, So I brought it to Gregg for a second opinion. First off, I wanted to like this shop SO BAD! Reason being, I live 5 blocks away and own 3 cars in my family, so the convenience would've been so awesome. My old mechanic retired in Astoria so I was on a Yelp hunt for a new mechanic that led me here. I'm a little surprised that there are so many high reviews for this shop. Don't get me wrong, Greg is a decent guy that does good work and seems to want to do the right thing, but it just doesn't end well each time I go here. I went in to see Greg 3 different times for smaller scale work and each time there was problems with getting the work done and price quotes. I had to keep going back in and making calls to see if my car was ready and it's always something with why it's not ready yet. It was so frustrating. And I'm not the bitchy type (as you can see I never leave bad reviews other than this one). I found myself rolling my eyes each time I called. Now I'm not stupid, maybe it's just me that had a bad experience (all 3 times), but Greg himself told me "I hope I didn't leave a bad taste in your mouth", that says it all that it's not me. Lol. He also quoted me on a muffler job with a VERY HIGH price with my car in his bay and when I phoned another shop in Astoria, I was astounded that it was almost HALF the price from Greg's! You can tell it was a high price because Greg was SO anxious to get my car worked on THAT MINUTE! He kept asking me over and over again, can we start yet? He figured I wouldn't say no since my car was already on the lift, so he jacked the price up! So funny he was so ready to do that job because every other time I had to wait forever and a day to get smaller scale work done. Anyway, I tried 3 times here and each time it was something else. Since then, I found a new guy in Astoria and he is absolutely spot on and love the guy too. I never worry about anything when I go there because I trust every work the guy says. Again, so many reviewers on Yelp can't be wrong, so give Gregg a shot if you like. Gregg DOES DECENT WORK (why he got 2 stars), but my issue was time, trust and pricing. I went to Gregg's tire & Auto to get a flat fixed during my lunch break at noon today. Greg greeted me and checked the tire - found a nail and asked his associate to plug the area. The whole thing took 15-20 mins. He also had the associate check the rest of the tires. I was charged $20. Usually I pay $10-$15 elsewhere. But, I was quoted this price up front and this is New York - so. I don't blame them. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 stars is because of the place itself - there is no place really for you to hang out while your car is getting worked on. They have a little tight office area but it is not much. So, I recommend this place for quick fix and if you have an opportunity to drop your car and pick it up later. $233- that's how much I paid for: two new westlake tires. Was it a ripoff? I don't know anything about cars so I'm just telling you the price so you can decide. My story: my parents Toyota Sienna minivan got a flat tire while I was driving and I didn't discover until the car was shaking up and down on 150th st. I quickly yelped to try to find the nearest tire repair place and found this place 9 blocks away. I called and the guy who I'm assuming is Gregg said yea bring the car but I'm busy and I'm not dropping everything just to work on your problem. It was a little rude since I never even asked when he could get to it- I just asked if they were open cause I just wanted to make sure it existed before driving my flat there. Anyways I get there and they immediately start working on it which I appreciated. (One of the cars was finished earlier than he had expected). He said the tire is done because it's bubbling and I would have to replace with a new one bc they didn't have used ones in stock that matched the size. He also recommended I replace the other rear tire because it looked like that was on its last leg. Gave me a choice and I chose the cheapest option - the westlake tires for $233 (including taxes and some recycling fee). It would've cost about 60 bucks more if I chose Firestone tires. They rotated my tires as well. Didn't take too long. Just glad it existed here cause I don't know what I would've done if it wasn't there. read more
