Be aware that this dental practice is out of network for all dental insurance plans. I was billed for a regular cleaning after asking whether they accepted my insurance - turns out accepting a certain insurance is different from being in-network. Maybe this is obvious to other laypeople, but I thought they were same and the person I spoke with did not make the distinction clear. (Are people really trying to see medical providers outside of their insurance network? Why? Who wants to pay more money?) After calling the front desk to discuss this issue, they were able to remove the charge. The service itself was satisfactory otherwise. read more

We have been coming to Dr. Young for several years without issues until recently. It is unfortunate that I have to write this review, but the pain that my 3 year old daughter is experiencing because of Dr Young's negligence warranted the necessity of this review as a warning to other families who were thinking about coming here for their children. About a year ago, I had noticed some dark areas in my then 2 year old's molars, despite our diligence in caring for her teeth. The first time he examined them, he told us they were not cavities, but genetic anomalies in how her teeth grew in. For the course of year we continued to have him monitor them and he told us the same thing every time. Recently, she started complaining of toothache. We brought her into see Dr Young on 3 separate occasions in the past 2 months when she complained of the pain. The first couple of times, he said it was her molars coming and suggested oragel to help with the pain, again telling us that the marks were NOT cavities. On the 3rd visit, he suggested we see a specialist. I asked if it was her molars and he said they were already in, even though the last he visit, he told us they were still coming in which apparently wasn't the case because my daughter's molars had already come in awhile ago. Why he said that the second visit, who knows? We have gone to 2 pediatric specialists now, both of which were shocked that the teeth had not been diagnosed with cavities which are no so deep, they require baby root canals. Because of his negligence and poor examination, our poor daughter is in pain and has to be subjected to evasive treatment. If he had properly examined the teeth all the opportunities he was given, OR if recommended us to see a pediatric dentist earlier on if he wasn't confident in seeing toddlers, we could've done something earlier on to prevent the need for baby root canals of which we now also have to pay $400+ in out of pocket costs. If you are a parent considering this practice for your young children, especially for their first experiences with the dentist, I urge you to take your child directly to a pediatric dentist instead and not trust Dr. Young with your children's dental care. As a professional, and a parent himself, he should be ashamed of himself and owes my family, but especially my daughter, an apology for his negligence. We made the big mistake of putting our trust in Dr. Young and he failed us. We are leaving this practice immediately and I will be filing complaints with the ADA. read more

Greogory young is By far the worst dentist I've ever encountered. He talks more than he actually works. He gave me a botched crown that left me with an infection and a missing tooth. When speaking to him about his botched pressure he accused me of lying then became very dismissive. I also spoke to his office manager and she was just as rude. If you want to find a good dentist, ask a kid. That's what I did and it led me to Dr. Young. I really don't want to tell you how much I like Dr. Young, because I'm afraid it will be the same curse as my old favorite hairdresser, who is now so booked I have to wait three months just to get in. But seriously, it took me years to find a dentist. Finally, a friend of mine needed a crown replaced and got a recommendation from her friends who said their 10-year-old LOVED going to the dentist. Dr Young is a nice guys and he is fun to chat with but I used him for about 5 years and after a few different incidents and the rude treatment I got from the front desk staff on a regular basis, I decided to quit going. He botched up a veneer and misdiagnosed a bad root canal that I had to deal with for over a month so I have decided to move on and am very happy that I did. He was great at first and very personable but you can tell after a while that his career as a fireman has definitely affected the quality of his dental practice. I wish Dr. Young the best but my advice to him would be to pick a career and try to be good at it like the rest of us. ******* The response comments from the office staff is exactly why I quit using Dr. Young. Like I said he is a decent dentist but needs to focus more on his dental practice and less on his second career, and if you look at some older reviews I am not the only person who feels that way. I have been going to Dr. Young for quite a few years now, after going to my previous dentist since I was a small child. I have always had exceptional service from him and his team and they are consistently pleasant and make the experience a breeze. I have gone to him both with insurance and without and find him to be very fair and affordable. He gives me advice on care and does not pressure me to do unnecessary work, I trust him when he gives advice on what needs to get done. As I have looked into seeing an orthodontist he has given me some helpful tips and advice around this as well. As I have moved from New York and Los Angeles, I have never seen a dentist in these areas, I have always waited until I was able to see Dr. Young. The only dentist I like better than Dr. Gregory Young is... Dr. Young in this new spacious, well-lit, modern location. Confession: A few months ago I had the brilliant idea of seeking out a different dentist in SF so I wouldn't have to travel to the East Bay to see Dr. Young. Two words: Bad idea. Dr. Young is the ONLY DENTIST that can give me a shot with NO PAIN. That's what I said. I am terrified of needles, almost faint at the thought. The Usually Squirrelly Squinka feels No Pain, not even a pinch. His work is always sparkly solid, his staff has great communication skills, the office has the latest equipment, and now they're in a beautiful new space that feels more like a comfy spa than a medical office with new furnishings, curved walls, and high windows that are private, but let in natural light If you're in a drill baby drill situation that doesn't involve some beehived freak plundering nature (cos that would be palin i mean painful) then Go see Dr. Young! If I'm willing to take public transportation across the bay to go to a dentist- You know it's right. just one question: When you get a crown, do you also get a scepter? I wish I can give him 6 stars. Where to start. My entire family uses him (including my mother) and he inspired my 4 year old daughter to brush her teeth. In fact, my daughter wants to go back and hang out with him and at his office. I was poor last year (bad market, etc.) and "cheated" on him with another cheaper dentist to do my Invisalign. Worse decision ever and I am paying for it - you get what you pay for. I should have used Dr. Young and really regret it. The other dentist took twice as long as needed, he seriously damaged my gum line, left major spaces in my front teeth, the list goes on. This week I had to go back to Dr. Young to get a recommendation on how to fix all the other dentist's mistakes. He was really nice about it and quickly had a reasonable and cost effective plan to fix everything. Second, the other horrible dentist said I had $960 worth of cavities that needed to be done ASAP. I went to Dr. Young to do the work for me and told me NOTHING needed to be done. He is so honest and trustworthy. Third, I was told I needed in office whitening by the other dentist = $500. When I asked him if I can do Zoom at his office he suggested the $50 whitening trays with my Invisalign since it is as effective and more cost effective. Again, another undersell since I clearly did not know better. As I was raving about how how much I owe Dr. Young to my mom who, also used him, she said he also tried to save her money on a costly procedure the other week. read more

I love my dentist. Really. No foolin'. It's not just because Dr. Young is my age and went to my rival high school. It's not just because I am the only patient who laughed during a Novocaine injection (we were talking about Olde Towne Mall in Torrance- NoCal you just don't know the 1970's like we from SoCal.) Dr. Young and his staff are friendly, courteous and efficient. I just broke a molar and Dr. Young actually answers his phone on weekends! I had a "no-appointment necessary" appointment the following Monday. Within 2 appointments, I was chomping away on my brand new pearly white. Dr. Young gives the best shots. I never feel them. I used to be so afraid of needles, but the slim babies he uses are hardly noticeable- except for the drooping cheek later, of course. I first met Dr. Young when he saved a tooth my old dentist told me needed a root canal. He took the time to explain everything to me and worked hard to keep my tooth in one piece. It has been over eight years since and look...NO root canal! I have been going to Dr. Young's office for over 10 years now. I am 44 (with a Ph.D.) and he has been the best dentist or medical professional I have ever seen. I have had some bad experiences with my former dentist and I was referred to Dr. Young by a colleague. Dr. Young will tell you the truth. He is not someone after your money, but a person of great moral character who cares and values about his patients only. The dentist before him was trying to treat pretty much all my teeth and calling it preventive treatment. Dr. Young did not think any of that was necessary and I have not had a single issue with my teeth over the past 10 years. I have seen two-three hygienists at Dr. Young's office for the past 10 years. All his hygienists and other administrative staff are outstanding professionals. I receive a reminder before my appointments by mail and also get a reminder call the day before. When I had emergencies come out, and I cannot make it to my appointment, they have always been understanding, considerate, nice, kind and accommodating for my needs. Dr. Young is an exceptional professional. There is a lot to learn from him even for your own business, just by interacting with him. He always asks, and cares about my family. He will remember all your conversations which makes me think, he listens to you and cares about you. He is extremely knowledgeable and I can tell from my conversations that he keeps himself up-to-date by participating in the top professional organizations, conferences and follows current medical publications. I definitely recommend Dr. Young. I am not a person who would say or write this about someone who would not absolutely deserve it. read more

Dr. Young is a dentist/part time San Francisco fireman. He should stick to being a fireman, you cannot burn the candle at both ends. He is very personable. I went to Dr. Young for a root canal. He totally botched it. In addition to failing to remove some of the roots, he did not advise me to have the subject tooth immediately filled. This resulted in a fractured tooth and terrible infection. I suffered through a very painful redo of the root canal by Dr. Charles Panella an endodonist. He stated the first job was terrible and also had to remove some debris Dr. Young left in the gum. I had to endure three very painful sessions with Dr. Panella in order to fix Dr. Young's very shoddy work. If I believed in revenge and our legal system, I would sue Dr. Young for malpractice. If you want a personable incompetent dentist, Dr. Young. is your dentist. read more

First off: easy parking, easy location. I switched dentists only because driving to my previous dentist took an hour sometimes, and I got lax about going, which is bad for my teeth! This place doesn't have all the bells and whistles my previous "nervous person dentist" had, like blankets (hey, A/C is chilly when you're nervously clammy & immobile in a chair! lol) or touchless baking soda jet cleaners or a bread machine to cover that "dentist smell" (if you're a nervous dental patient you know what I mean) or nitrous or a consult room- you are ushered straight into a dental chair. I haven't done that in a decade! Hah! Thankfully, the technician who took my x-rays was really sweet and Dr. Young was mellow, casual and chatty about topics unrelated to dental procedures, so that was nice. The vibe overall was very relaxed. Plus they didn't try to strike (more) fear into me about my dental habits leading to eternal damnation... or at least toothlessness. The tech who did my cleaning was nice and also very thorough yet my gums aren't sore a day later. My teeth are now shiny and so much whiter!! These guys may not bill themselves as "nervous dental patient" specialists but their relaxed and low-stress style really worked for me and I'll be coming back consistently thanks to all the above reasons. read more

Ok, so when your teeth hurt there is nothing like the pain. So there I was, 1:30 am, with an impacted molar and ready to extract it with a kitchen knife. I call Dr Young's office to leave a message to get an appointment first thing, and on the VM it says, if it's an emergency call Dr Young direct and gives the number. First of all...WOW. That is dedication to your patients. And second...how fast can I dial? So the good Dr answers (another WOW) and explains that he could send me to the ER for pain medication but it probably wouldn't work too well on tooth pain, so why don't I meet him at his office and he'll see what he can do. You heard me right, meet him at his office AT 1:30 IN THE MORNING and he will see what he can do! I show up and he is usual cherry self, assuring me that he was up anyway so don't worry, and proceeded to give me a partial root canal to relieve the pressure. Again, you heard me right, a PARTIAL ROOT CANAL AT 1:30 in the morning! While I cannot call it the best time I have ever gone to the dentist, a root canal at 1:30 am is a root canal X5, but I swear I would have pulled off my head by 9am when they opened. Dr Young is a wonderful dentist, calm, funny and good at what he does. His staff is warm and friendly and I don't even mind getting my teeth cleaned! He is very conscious of your potential pain and is very conscientious about making sure everything is as painless and comfortable as possible. You add that to the incredible devotion to his patients and you get the perfect doctor. I will never go anywhere else again. Oh, and he takes Delta Dental! read more

We have been going to Dr. Young since 2001 and trust him with all our dental needs. He always has the latest technology so things are up to date. Teeth cleanings on Sat. are super convenient for us. My husband had two crowns put in years ago and they are still going strong. We wouldn't go anywhere else since Dr. Young and the oral hygienist ( Amy) are the best we've come across. Dr. Young has been my dentist for over 5 years now. All of my family goes to him and on top of being great at his job and very smart (UC Berkeley grad) he is always super friendly and upbeat. I trust him and would be confident recommending him to anyone for dental work. After a perfect record of no cavities I unfortunately ended up having to get a root canal my freshman year of college. I was nervous but he performed like a pro and I walked out completely pain-free. He recently moved offices and is now located in a nice building on Piedmont Ave. The receptionists are always very helpful and accommodating. Dr. Young is a very competent dentist and great guy. He has varied interests and is quite personable. I think it is kinda cool that he also works as a fireman. On to the dentist part - he has taken care of all my dental issues over the last couple of years, including replacing two 20 year old bridges. They went the extra mile to take care of my ultra sensitive teeth and made me feel at home. They also have good reading in the waiting room; though I barely had to wait.
