What a great place!!! Always has been one of my favorite go to places and it never disappoints. I have tried many of the dishes and they are consistently delicious. Some of our favorites include the "saganaki" and the "bekri meze". We recently visited with friends and they are as impressed as us. First of all the atmosphere is so warm and cozy with a very "visiting a relative for a home cooked meal" vibe. Luckily there's no relative to deal with. The starter bread and salad were so tasty. I had the lamb special with roasted potatoes that was spot on, tender and delicious. I enjoy the fact they bring everything on one plate too, I don't need a separate dish for my potatoes thanks! The wife had chicken with a side of rice...I don't know what they do to the rice but whatever it is, it's a magical secret! Wrap it up with a complimentary little dessert and giant shots of ouzo and you have the perfect Greek dinner! I usually go to Kyklades when I'm around that part of Astoria but we had a show to catch at a certain time so lining up endlessly at Kyklades was not an option that night. Yesterday was a day of epic proportions. Starting with our indoor soccer team's 18-2 win earlier in the day, a friend and I made the trek out to Astoria for a lunch at Gregory's. Part of a group of five, we began with shares of the dolma and a plate of various spreads, which included caviar, eggplant, spicy cheese and yogurt, as well as sliced pita. Everything was delicious, and it was hard to save room for the meal that was yet to come. As an entree, I ordered the chicken souvlaki. Served with a side salad and one's choice of homemade fries or lemon potatoes, I was not given a choice. Instead, I was served the lemon potatoes, or what the first person in our group had chosen. Accompanied by halved pita and yogurt dip, it was more than enough for two meals, and I took half to go. I savored it for lunch today. Most of us also ordered cups of Greek coffee to end our meal, which we enjoyed with their complimentary dessert. However, when presented with the bill, we soon saw that we had been charged between $2-3 for the extra pita for our spread, which was completely unexpected. We neither had been served enough for the spreads themselves to begin with, not to mention for the number of people in our party, and also were not informed of the extra charge upon request. Furthermore, when we went to pay, we were told that the bill could only be split between two cards, which can only be attributed to sheer laziness. At one time having worked as a server myself, I know that any bill can just as easily be split among three or more- or, really, divided any way the party feels fit. All in all though, I'm a fan. And had it not been for the server's deceptive and apathetic demeanor, I would have given Gregory's a full five stars. Because the food was spectacular. read more

Arguably, the best part about living in Astoria is the Greek food. In fact, when I was on my honeymoon in Greece, and got chatting with people who lived there, at least 50% had heard of or been to Astoria. Now if that's not Little Greece, I don't know what is! Granted, I have not been to Taverna Kaklades, mainly because I have better things to do with my time than wait an hour to eat, but I have tried many other Greek establishments in the area, and this place def ranks among the best in terms of authenticity, flavor, atmosphere, and overall value. Let's start (and end) with the bread - freshly baked and so flaky my stomach is literally rumbling as I write this, which is served with a nice dash of fresh olive tapernade. I got the eggplant spread, which was fresh to death, with mucho garlic. Stuffed grape leaves with rice were also spot on, and the gyro platter was massive and fed two hungry mouths. The chicken souvlaki platter came with 2 huge skewers, greek salad, choice of potatoes (get the lemon), pita, tzatziki (amazing)...all for 10 BUCKS! Add to that $8 carafes of wine, al fresco dining and a delicious tirokafteri app, we were in heaven. Not a lot of space here (only 5 tables) but the staff was very accommodating. The decor is pretty simple, but honestly nobody comes here for the decor. They are nice enough to give you two paintings (one of a beach, and one of a Greek village). You can see the chef doing his craft in the back from your table. For a group of 6 we ordered the the Greek meatballs, Greek salad, gyro plate, lemon potatoes. Everything was cooked well. The meatballs were the standout (giving you just enough flavor and spice per bite). The gyro plate was great, and the lemon potatoes were a special treat. Add 6 beers and a carafe of wine and our total bill was only $80. You simply can not beat it. read more

This is a review for their delivery. I only realized today that...I can get food from Gregory's delivered to my door! Hooray! And it was delivered amazingly fast...in fact, unbelievably fast. And everything was perfect except... I wish I'd known that the 'Greek Salad with Feta' that you get for delivery, is completely different from that which they offer in the restaurant. There were no tomatoes, no cucumbers, no stuffed grape leaves (which they often include with the salad), and no 'block of feta'. Instead, what I got was a salad full of shredded lettuce strips and (pre-crumbled?) bits of feta. So I was very disappointed with the salad... Also, while the meatballs (keftedes) were good, something seemed a bit different about them as well...not quite like what I typically get when I dine at Gregory's. Strange... This is it. This is the place you go to in Astoria if you want the best simply prepared freshest grilled fish and seafood without the ridiculous waits and mayhem. I told a friend of mine, a physician who grew up in Astoria that I liked the hectic place with the long wait. My friend laughed and said "you need to go to Gregory's corner". Yes, it is a simple "no frills" kind of place but everything we had here was superb. We started with the comp pita and crushed olive tapenade, then split a small Greek salad, chock full of delicious tomatoes, feta and cucumber. Then moved on to the grilled octopus, a stand out. The octopus here, simply grilled with olive oil and simple seasoning was the best I have ever had. The grilled shrimp were also plump and superbly seasoned. Much higher quality than the local competition. The porgies, branzino and striped bass; all superb, freshly brought in by local fishermen known to the owner. The grilled vegetables, dandelions and lemon potatoes, also perfect. Prices are competitive with any place in Astoria and the portions are very well sized. This meal in Manhattan would have been twice the price. My days of waiting on lines to eat in Astoria are over. Gregory's Corner is my jam. read more

This little Greek restaurant is away from the chaos of the Ditmars Boulevard/31st Street area. Its tranquil ambiance is perfect for any time of year - indoors it seems to be warm and cozy, but if you get to sit outdoors, it's really a treat. The food is delicious and the service is great. They give you fresh, warm bread to start with. Order a carafe - the wine really brings the meal together. Everything is fresh, orders come out quick. The hostess/waitress is really sweet and pleasant. She will accommodate your order and does not give you attitude. This place is awesome. I would highly recommend it if you're in the area and if you're not, well, you might as well go - it's near the Grand Central and also accessible by public transportation. read more

I wish I'd tried this place sooner! It's only 2 blocks from my house, and somehow it took me 5 years to actually eat here. My loss. I really like the atmosphere...it reminds me of the small, family restaurants I ate in while I was in eastern europe. It's very relaxed, and seems like a nice place to hang out with a coffee for several hours. In fact every time I walk by the place, I see many old Greek people doing exactly that. The food is quite tasty, but in that "home cooked meal" kind of way (NOT in the "NYC chic, complicated cuisine" kind of way). And it's CHEAP. I came here with 3 friends, and we shared several dishes, plus 2 carafes of wine. The total bill: $60. And I assure you that none of us left hungry! Service was very friendly, but perhaps a bit inattentive once the food had been brought out. It would've been easier to flag them down if we were eating inside instead of outside, though. We had 4 appetizers the portions were a good size. Grilled octopus was so delicious prob the best I've had and so tender. The mussels with feta was yummy and the mussels were large which was great. Fried eggplant,zucchini and skordalia which are garlicky mashed potatoes yum!. And lastly lamb meatballs also delicious and flavorful. I didn't get to take a pic of them since we ate them right away. Good warm bread and olive spread. A tiny complimentary dessert, I think it was some kind of bread pudding. Good and friendly service and everyone enjoying themselves. My wife and I had the Greek salad, whiting (4 small fried fish with bones) that comes with the (extremely) garlicky potatoes, and fried calamari. Again, portions are nice-sized so it was plenty for us to eat (doggy bag to go.) The decor is homey, comfy and very casual. I like both Elias' Corner, Telly's Taverna and they're well known Greek staples of Astoria- this place definitely ranks right up there with them! Highly recommend! read more

It can be a Hit or miss it feels, but in general the food is quick, on point and simple. It's no frills, basic, and kind of a hole in the wall. I'm not gonna lie, it is not fine dining. It's just an old school tavern. But the closest to feeling like a Greek tavern that I have experienced in the states. It is what it is. Octopus 90% of the time is the best octopus I've had in NY. Originally we wanted to go to Taverna Kylcades but the line was out the door at 3pm on a rainy Sunday so we decided to find the next best spot, Corner Taverna down the street! Outside were a bunch of jolly middle-aged Grecians laughing, drinking and smoking (very GodFather - but Greek). The decor was cottage-like with some nautical themes and that red and white checkered table cloth that makes anything feel authentic. The food was delicious. Fresh cool Tzatsiki, warm pita, delicious grilled octopus. The chicken in the souvlaki was a little dry but deliciously coated in some rub. We also had the fried cheese (sagapani). I wish it came out a little hotter but it was delicious. Definitely want to try Taverna Kylcades but this place is great! read more
