Straight black coffee says a lot about a shop. Nothing to hide behind, just the roast and the brew. This had a nice floral balance, no bitterness, was just brewed really well. Wanting coffee in this neighborhood, this is where you should go. The shop is bright and comfortable, quiet enough for a conversation but lively. Surprisingly I found the food here to be better than the coffee. The interior was modern and clean but understaffed. We weren't helped out immediately and some customers left the quickly formed line. Although I was excited to try their interesting cold brew options, they were unfortunately all out of their offerings except for the Hall & Oats. So instead of the salted caramel, I opted for the iced caramel macchiato instead. The drip options required greater wait time and took about 5 minutes to complete. =ORDERED= *Huye Mountain: their limited fruity offering. Had strong acidity and sourness that I found to be unpleasant. Definitely not your traditional coffee profile and the uniqueness wasn't a good thing. *Iced Caramel Macchiato: included too much ice and milk. Would have loved for the espresso to have shined more as the caramel wasn't overpowering or sweet. Perhaps the cold brew option would have been better. *Beyond Flex: the components were well seasoned but poorly presented. My egg was completely separated from the rest of the sandwich and the sausage was barely on the focaccia bread. Despite being off the sandwich, the egg was fluffy and the Beyond Meat sausage was comparable to the real deal. The pepper jack cheese was pleasantly melted and the chipotle aioli had a subtle kick. The rosemary bread was notably crispy, fragrant and the perfect carrier for everything. Gregorys offered convenience as it was close to the Portrait Museum but the coffee was underwhelming. The service wasn't the fastest and considering half of the options were unavailable by noon, I can't see nearby employees finding this as an easy pitstop. The greatest appeal was their vegan friendly options that were tasty but I don't see myself returning for much more. read more

The shop is very cute and chic. Plenty of small seating areas. The salted saramel cold brew ordered as is was INCREDIBLY. We each ordered one and they were the same so be warned. The DMV breakfast sandwich was edible. It definitely tasted pre-made and nuked in the microwave. I would say the food is comparable to Starbucks, it's quick but nothing to really write home about. The staff was friendly and it definitely didn't take as long as a Starbucks would so we were happy about that. Lots of people on computers so I'm assuming there is free wifi. read more

Decadent gooey moist chocolate chip cookies! I was at the shop at the perfect moment in the afternoon when the warm cookies were coming off the tray. The cookies have crispy edges with a soft gooey core and chocolate chunks in every bite. They are the BEST chocolate chip cookies in DC! I had a hard time choosing which drink to get because there are so many options, and they all sounded good. I ended up with the salted caramel cold brew and it did not disappoint. Gregory's is easily one of the best oat milk chai lattes I've had in my life - and that's saying something because, believe me, I've had a lot of oat milk chai lattes lately. Unfortunately, I also ordered a lemon poppyseed loaf, which was up there with my worst decisions. It tasted like it had been cooked about three days ago and flown to another state prior to my ordering of it - so dry. The service was about what you'd expect on a busy weekday morning - pleasant, but not above and beyond. I would've loved to pause and enjoy my drink, but there was a pretty loud homeless woman yelling in the corner that no one seemed to take any issue with. read more

My goal was to try a local coffee spot on my quick trip to DC and Gregory's coffee was that spot that was conveniently near me. Spoiler alert: it did not disappoint at all! I loved the facade and it definitely caught my attention to give it a try. When you walk in, there are a ton of windows for natural lighting and the decor is black and white so it really gives you a unique coffee shop vibe unlike Starbucks. There wasn't a line so my coffee was made super quickly to order. I ordered a vanilla iced latte medium and it was the perfect size! It also tasted great. I don't know if it's just DC coffee in general, but it tastes so much better than in Florida. Maybe it's the water?? I also got a buttered croissant which they warmed up to go with it and it really complemented the drink well. Overall, I loved my experience! It was both better and cheaper than Starbucks. If you are in DC and looking for some local coffee because you are tired of chains, go try Gregory's Coffee! read more

The hubs and I popped in for breakfast and coffee before another day of museums. I love a vegan and vegetarian forward menu and that is definitely happening here. There are so many good options but I landed on the spicy avocado toast and a small soy cappuccino. The cappuccino was one of the best I've had in a long time. Perfection. The avocado toast came with just a bit too much avocado (I'm sure I'm in the minority on that statement) but it was sooo tasty. I scraped off some of the avocado and it was the perfect ratio of avo to spice to toast. Mmmm so good. The hubs went with the croissant sammie with Turkey bacon, egg and American cheese and a drip coffee. He walked away as a happy man as well. The staff is always exceptional, friendly, and helpful; and go out of their way to address you at every step of the process, especially if you seem to deliberate over what to order. Likewise, the coffee seems to be of high ingredient quality. Likewise, the ambiance is beautiful and the space, well-utilized. It is a great respite from the hustle and bustle of the immediate area. Unfortunately, the execution of the drinks here tends to not be particularly exceptional. For the price point, it is very difficult to justify coming here unless you take pleasure in dining out regularly and trying everything; both things I seek to do. Likewise, the food and dessert items, while pretty, are bland, unoriginal, and disappointing by every metric. My best recommendation would be to try two variations of black coffee and one or two iced drinks, and to compare them to other like or usual offerings, and to then see if you would like to come back. I am primarily a black coffee (iced or otherwise), myself, but I dabble for the sake of experience. One of the cold brews here drew my attention in that it has notes of blueberries, strawberries, and vanilla. read more

Love this place! Wished we had these on the Best Coast. I suppose we sorta do in they remind me of Peet's. Gregory's seemed to have several locations dotted across DC. This was our favorite. Coffee is consistent and good across locations. Americano is where it's at regardless of where I go. This place does it well. The Vegan Breakfast Burrito and the Vegan Deuxe sustained us throughout our week in town. Perfect, reasonably priced, and filling. Most importantly, Vegan. Breakfast options in DC are scarce for those that abstain from the eggs and dairy. Gregory comes through clutch, by looking out for us. Came in early morning for a quick drink to go. I got a hot chai latte with oat milk. The milk was steamed well, with a perfect amount if foam and the chai flavor was tasty. The drink was made pretty quickly too which is always nice when trying to grab and go. The customer service was nice. They were friendly and very welcoming. This was my first time going to this coffee shop. Let's start with the cons first - the drinks are pricey more than Starbucks with add ons Okay review time: I needed somewhere to work and kill time before a lunch meeting nearby. This was a great place I loved the decor and use of accent colors like the mustard color chairs with the floors and tables. It was overall a very welcoming space. I did not feel rushed. It was busy but with a good flow workout being to loud. I was able to get work done, relax, and enjoy my zucchini bread and chai latte (I still think about the latte b/c yum not too sweet or bland just right) Pro - the layout and decor is really great. Feels like you're in a sitting room or in a nicely decorated living/dinning room. Comfy couch and single seats. Smaller tabes to bring your laptop to work while you eat... or conduct business. I brought a chai latte w/ oat milk and zucchini bread. Both were delicious. Event though i thought a medium was a little pricey it was one of the best Chai's I had and trust me all Chai lattes are not equal. Yes, I would recommend and I look forward to going to another location in a different city. The staff were welcoming and nice. Solid coffee shop downtown! It was super busy because the Capitals game had just gotten out, and there were only 2 people working. Other than the wait, I liked the cafe. They had a solid food menu, vegan options, and some fun unique latte flavors. I just got a peppermint tea and the vegan bar, which was a granola/nut/date bar. My parents got coffees and a blueberry muffin. When they split the blueberry muffin in half, there was a singular blueberry inside. It's the only coffee shop that is open early. There are several other nearby. My advice is to go anywhere to get coffee except here. Even if you have to go to a gas station it's worth it. Overpriced, underwhelming, and I paid 6.45$ for an energy juice and watched the employee open a .25¢ can of target brand sparkling water, and pour that into a cup. That was it. Nothing else was in the cup. No other ingredients. I paid nearly 7$ for sparkling water. What an absolute joke. I will walk through the snow to go somewhere else. read more

After visiting the Smithsonian art museum, I wanted sit down for a coffee house near there that is not Starbucks and this spot was the first shop I found-- I'm glad I gave it a try, it's perfect! I grabbed a matcha tea with oat milk and paid $5.75 which is not that expensive at all for a prime location like "Seventh St. NW." There are limited tables inside the shop but it's a huge space. Usually people grab and go which is why I was able to find an available table in the corner. I had to work on my projects which is why I was in the zone; however, this also would be a nice people watching spot, actually. Overall, my experience have been great and definitely would be back. Special thanks to the barista named Richard who allowed me to barrow his own personal iPhone charger. Richard knows customer service very well. The one suggestion to the business owner is that Wi-Fi connection could be upgraded because it was not very reliable. Other than that, everything was great! read more

The beverage tastes great but now I think she made it with regular vs decaf. I said it twice and then confirmed and she put it in the computer. I medically can't have caffeine so this isn't great. The girl making drinks, made no effort to welcome us or anyone in. She was on her cell phone the entire time. She seemed as if we were bothering her. She never made eye contact, did smile, engage or anything. She kept her head down looking at her phone and went back to the espresso machine with her phone. Was she so distracted by her phone she didn't so decaf? Did she not care? I have no idea. Another lady came from back room after a while, same demeanor. No smile, nothing. Nice trendy coffee spot! Surprising selection of cold brews. I went for Hall & Oats cold brew which is a cold brew with oat milk infused with cinnamon and vanilla and it was barely sweet, you actually could taste coffee -- surprising contrast to your average Starbucks. All baristas were super nice and efficient. When I walked in out of nowhere there were like 10 or 15 people behind me, and by the time I paid for my coffee, got it (in less than a minute) and settled down in a cozy loveseat inside entire line was gone. Not sure if such a fast service is a norm here but the team clearly worked efficiently that day! read more

We stopped by this location of Gregory's after leaving the Portrait Gallery. The service was good, the coffee was good, and it was fast (we were there around 2pm on a Monday). Overall, it was a fine place to grab a cup of coffee. It has some seating, not a ton. I've only been to Gregory's in DC (they're also in NY and NJ), and I think it's a good regional chain. Horrible service and food! We wanted to support a local business and this place was open before 9am so we stopped in. There was a line when we arrived, but it moved quickly. We only stopped in here because it was the first place we saw OPEN and we wanted coffee and a quick bite for breakfast. Unfortunately my Deluxe breakfast croissant was never placed and after waiting 20 minutes I walked up to the counter and it was confirmed my order ( name was not written on a paper bag) , so the staff made me one for me after finishing several more orders. The Deluxe is a turkey sausage with American cheese warmed up in a special oven for 60 seconds. By the time I got my Deluxe, some parts were ice chilled cold and other parts too hot! It was cooked unevenly. McDonald's breakfast sandwich is consistantly better than this Deluxe. My husband and I ordered coffees and I asked to make room for cream, but there was no cream so I had to go back to the counter to ask for cream, but the cup was quite full, so the little amount of cream spilled over and it was messy bringing the cup back to our table. The staff did not seem to have a grip on the orders. We paid for the Deluxe, but the guy did not write my name on a paper bag so the staff never knew about my Deluxe until I complained about it 20 minutes later. The staff needs better training. Had I known Starbucks was just down the block, we would of stopped there. The quality here for food and coffee was the worst! I will never ever come here again. This place is a Starbucks wannabe. Don't bother coming here, there is a Starbucks just down the street. read more

My friends and I came in here to order coffee. I used the restroom first because I needed to go that bad. Before my friends had a chance to figure out what they wanted to order, the barista very rudly assumed we were not going to get anything and said "the restroom is for customers only" So we walked out and didn't order anything even though we really wanted coffee. I used to hate to see a new coffee shop coming. But I love coffee and learned to embrace the new spots that popped up and the culture they brought. Finally, had the chance to check out the new digs that took over one of the Starbucks that lined 7th Street. It's such a cool vibe for work, small group collaboration or just to simply sip some good brew. They have a collection of baked goods and their menu is rather inviting. As much as I love coffee, I'm not a barista, so I was grateful for easy to navigate menu (I was able to decide on something without asking 100 questions, lol). I got the Fall Oat Boy and it was delicious! I was sucked in by the dessert case and got the huge chocolate chip cookie. I look forward to returning and trying more from the menu. read more
