While staying at the nearby AC Hotel in Downtown DC, I walked across the street and tried Gregory's Coffee for the first time. After surveying the glass case filled with lots of baked goods and reading over the menu, we settled on an Iced Salted Caramel Oat Milk latte and hot drip coffee with oat milk and two Splendas. I know, a boring order. The two ladies behind the counter were welcoming and lively and answered questions and clarified our order. The open seating area is ideal for conversation, work area, and just has an overall warm and welcoming vibe. At the end of the day, I tried about three coffee joints, and Gregory's was my favorite in coffee taste, texture, and blend. When in DC, I might try another stand but probably not. read more

I'm usually a matcha and chai girlie, but after being gifted a Gregory's Coffee gift card... consider me converted! I'm embarrassed to admit me and my girly pop have been here everyday for the past 2 weeks (somebody cut the check). Their seasonal drink, the "Fall Oat Boy", is absolutely addictive -- it's the perfect cozy-sweet blend for autumn. Pair it with their pumpkin spice muffin, and chefs kiss. Thank me later . Service-wise, it's usually just 1-2 employees holding it down while managing both in-store and online orders, so I always give them grace -- they're doing their best, and it shows. The ambiance is also a vibe: reminds me of the coffee shops back home in Florida -- warm, laid-back, and just the right amount of busy. 3 stars because the coffee is delicious. I've been to this Gregory's 4 times now. The first time there was a very pleasant guy taking my order but the last three times it's been the same two people. They don't greet you at all, they just stare at you until you state what you want. Then get irritated when you can't make up your mind. So God forbid if you have any questions. I don't know why this place has so many mediocre reviews. It's in the middle of a bunch of other food in DC, but stands out as a thoughtful option for breakfast or coffee. What stood out to me the most are the toasts they offer-- unlike other coffee shops in the area that pile more than you can eat on a huge slab of brioche, the toasts served at Gregory's are the perfect size, and there are pretty interesting options to choose from. I got avocado toast, which was served on a thick whole wheat bread and topped with chili oil and chili pepper flakes. . The honey badger cold brew is a must-try if you prefer drinks that aren't too sweet. The americanos are pretty balanced (not too strong). Seating is good, and all seats have tables. Gregory's Coffee is the latest non-DC coffee shop chain to try to capitalize on the coffee wave hitting our nation's capital. I'm split on Gregory's. Here's what's to like and what's not to like: What to like: - Seating: They have plenty of tables and I've never had an issue finding an open table. -Outlets: Unlike many coffee shops, they have enough outlets for your computer AND smart phone. Wifi: They have free, strong, and reliable wifi. What's not to like: -Coffee: It's not bad at all. It's just not the best in the city. Visit any local coffee shop (Peregrine, Colony Club, Maketto, Slipstream to name a few) and you'll have a better cup of coffee. -Pastries: I have a sweet tooth and love anything with chocolate and sugar in it. I've tried 4-5 different pastries at Gregory's and they aren't worth the steep price and/or calories. I've had the chocolate chip cookie, glazed donut, their breads, and a few muffins. Each has been super dry and not tasty at all. I wouldn't go to Gregory's to drink or eat. Just come for the wifi and open tables. read more

The Flower Power Cold Brew (cold brew infused with lavender and a touch of honey, and blended with unsweetened hemp milk) was lightly sweetened with a reasonable number of calories. The vegan burrito (not pictured) was surprisingly delicious. It's not pictured, in part, because I ate it before thinking about taking a picture for this post. Lol. While I don't need to eat meat, I don't really seek out vegan options either. I had about an hour to spare before a doctor's appointment across the street, so I stopped by Gregorys coffee to get in a quick study session. I loved the dark color palette and modern vibe, and there were plenty of small tables inside and out to sit and chat with friends or do some work. I got a large Matcha latte (default is with almond milk so that's perfect). It was actually pretty good and strong in matcha flavor and not sweetened, which was great. I would've preferred it to be a little bit hotter, as it was more lukewarm, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall I think Gregorys Coffee is a nice coffee shop -- a bit pricey but the vibe and experience are worth it. When you walk in & they know your name and ask if you'd like your usual - living that DC dream. I love the personality this Gregory's has. The morning crew always puts a smile on my face (Thanks Chris and Bri!) I think they know a solid few dozen of us by name. They also started a little Polaroid thing that is so cute. I'm a fan of those premixed iced coffees & the mocha. It's also nice to have options like almond milk, oat milk etc when I'm pretending to be healthy. Also, can we find out what bread they use for that Avocado toast? It's perfect. I think the other Gregory's was technically closer to my office but this one has that community vibe that's hard to get working downtown. read more

I was in town for work for the week. I saw this shop on my first day and got a salted caramel cold brew. It was AMAZING!!!!! Perfect for a hot and humid DC day. Seriously, as a SoCal resident, I can do hot but this humid is stupid dumb. On my last day in town, I told the employees that I was sad to leave this yummy beverage behind but try as I might, they would not give me the recipe. Apparently, they are only on the East Coast (sad face). If ever in the area, try this place. The employees at this location particularly were all very nice, helpful, and quick with the caffeine. I stopped by here the other day after visiting the breastfeeding center right next door (this mama still needs to get her caffeine fix now and then). I went in and ordered a drip coffee and a chai. It was pretty empty, there was maybe one or two other people but it was also in the middle of a work day so I wasn't expecting too much of a hustle at that time. It took a little bit longer than expected but the wait was worth it. The coffee was tasty and my dirty chai was exactly what I was looking for. The space is trendy, cozy, and welcoming and it is big enough if you wanted to hunker down and do some work. If this was a tad bit closer to my house or office I'd definitely swing by more often (there are just too many coffee shops between here and where I am that are also delicious!). I'm excited to go back and see what other fun drinks they might have. I've been seeing other Gregory shops around and am looking forward to exploring it some more. read more

I'll start by saying I love the staff here at the M street loc in DC. They get 5 stars. But the business itself is turning out to be a disappointment. It's nice to see healthier options for beverages. The coffee bean itself is average in flavor and taste - other roasters like Stumptown give you better flavor. Some of these drinks are way over priced. They charge $8 for their ginger shot-- this is double the price at most places including Pret a manger, and their shots have more ginger in them. Even jrink, which I have found to be disappointing when you look at dollar versus value, has a decent ginger shot for $4. I recommend their coffee beverages and their pastries are fine but some of their products are desperately in need of a look at price for value. read more

Not sure what is going on here, but both my Vegan Bar & Lemon Poppy Slice seemed like 3-4 days old. Extra hard edges, and tasteless. * Staff needs improvement.
