Waited all week to try Gregory's. Beautiful, inviting storefront. However, once inside, the quality declined significantly. Coffee was mediocre at best, and way overpriced, over $3 for a small coffee. Blueberry muffin was very stale, and definite over priced, over $3. Staff was indifferent to say the least. read more

Words cannot describe how special this place is! The first time I came in I was greeted with a warm smile and asked if I needed any help with suggestions. The baristas here are always amazing. Daniel, Myles and DD have given good recommendations on drinks and breakfast sandwiches. I am a pescatarian so my favorite sandwich is the vegan deluxe it is delicious. I was very pleased and surprised with Just Egg especially since I have never liked eggs it was a great alternative for me. I can't emphasize enough how happy it makes me to come in here. First off, I'm not a coffee drinker but I was recommended by a friend to try this specific location on L st, the manager herself took my order , she was very patient with me and I admit, I'm a picky person and even harder to please! She recommended the chai tea latte and vegan peanut butter cookie .... I fell in love! I have never tasted a drink so full of flavor and at just the right temperature, cookie is sweet but not overwhelming, overall I give them 5 stars, shop aesthetics is cute, plants everywhere , and warm vibes all around . I tried the honey bee toast today which was ricotta with honey, and pepper. It may have also had salt, but don't quote me. First off, the toast itself is beautifully made and makes you feel like you're eating in luxury. It's on a super thick and crusty toast which presented an issue for me since I recently had dental work done. Personally, the taste was a bit overwhelming but I attribute that to personal preference of maybe this combo just isn't my thing. I'd recommend you try it, but I'll be trying one of the other items on the menu. The space was super inviting and the staff was extremely friendly. I wanted to like Gregorys... but, alas :-( I met an old friend for coffee at Gregorys this afternoon. Our drinks were fine - though a bit pricey (medium cappuccino = approximately $5). Service was fine. I noticed the music was blaring when we walked in. The place was empty of customers - I thought perhaps the staff had turned up the volume to keep themselves alert or entertained. When my friend and I sat down we realized the noise level made it impossible to hear one another. I asked one of the staff at the counter if they could turn down the music a bit. He fetched the manager who suggested we move to a different table [no help - as there are speakers everywhere]; he explained that he could not turn down the volume - referring to a Gregorys policy, inviolable, evidently, regarding the volume level. If you are in the 'hood, and seeking coffee, I suggest you go here only for take-out. read more

I popped in here this morning for a quick coffee and every staff member was just so darn nice. It was a great way to start the day. I'd like to go back to try a smoothie and a breakfast toast. The corner of 19th and L is probably the most brutally competitive corner in DC when it comes to coffee. There's WaWa for cheap gas station coffee, Dunkin for cream and sugar mixed with coffee, Corner Bakery and Pret a Manger for run-of-the-mill grab-and-go coffee, and now Gregory's for upscale coffee. I went to Gregorys in Manhattan last year and thought it was pretty good. I'm glad to see they're giving DC a try and so far they're pretty good. But they are really going to have to seriously up their game if they're going to make it on this corner. read more

So this location just opened. I had heard they had opened up shop in DC but didn't know much other than that it was a coffee joint from New York. Pleasantly surprised! Try their iced coffee for starters it has a great after taste, almost like mocha. Their whole wheat doughnut is delicious and filling, as are their buckwheat balls - I tried the chocolate one. My husband and I have been quarantined, working from home for 6-7 months but we decided to venture out on our day off and came across this Gregory's downtown . We were greeted warmly by the barista and manager who both wore black mask and gloves. The barista made us feel immediately comfortable, she was very sweet, knowledgeable about the menu, and even offered sanitizer after taking our order. They are fine and they gave me a free doughnut. I stopped in for a cold brew when I saw a new coffee shop had opened in Farragut. The coffee was good and thet gave me a free doughnut, which was nice. But I was quite perplexed by their menu. There was quite a wide spread of smoothies, foods, weird milks, and coffee beverages, in addition to the pastries. I'm writing this during the pandemic so what i look for in a buying a cup of coffee now is different. I stopped here while waiting for my spouse who was at a dental appointment. I had an espresso in the pm which was just the right pick me up and the espresso was good. I tried the chocolate chip cookie at the recommendation of the cashier. That cookie was the way I like it, a little on the crunchy side and not soft. It was so large I saved half for the next day. My office is a bit of a walk from this location but once the weather is cooler I'll try walking off the pandemic pounds and perhaps use their loyalty app to compare to the big mega box coffee chain and others in the area. This is a family business trying to carve a niche in town and I hope they survive with the other coffee chains. It's not bad to support an underdog. Also once the world is post-pandemic I'll try dining-in and their other coffee drinks and vegan sweets to see what the other posters are commenting about. read more

Clean, nice and cozy atmosphere. I haven't tried many but they had great selection of drinks and foods. I have tried latte, a grazed donut and an apple fritter. They were all good. In my first visit my impression of the staff were not friendly but in the second visit they were friendly. Overall my experiences were good, so that I will go back soon. read more

I want to like the place. It is near work and not a Starbucks. I have gone a few times over the summer and I tried a couple of the cold brews and basically they all taste like ass. Yeah, it is nice they are trying to innovate, but if the drink doesn't taste good, then it fails. The plain regular coffee is fine. However, it is more expensive than anywhere else. Today, I ordered a mocha. To be honest, I only went there because Starbucks had a huge line. My old commute had me walking passed a Peet's, which I loved, but now that is far out of my way. So I stopped at Gregory's. The "expediter" got my order wrong. So the whole point of going there was a waste. On top of all of that is is the most expensive of all coffee shops with a very limited food menu. So for coffee, I recommend Peet's. If you need some breakfast, with that coffe, Pret a Manger or Corner Bakery. I have used it for a meeting location. It works ok, but usually someone is very unhappy with their drink. read more

The newest coffee chain to hit DC via NYC is.. ok. I got the drip coffee (my usual way to judge a coffee joint) and found it to be fine, but a bit acidic. At almost $3 for a medium black drip, I found it to be high for the taste when there is so much competition in the area. The branding is cute and hipsterish, but it will have to do more to stand out in such a saturated caffeine market downtown. read more

One time I came here and they were out of Honey Badger, which I guess happens, but I was a little bummed. I came back the next week and got it and it was good! I have yet to find something that I can't get enough of here, but I think it's a nice place. I wanted to get one of their energy bites but couldn't justify buying it for the price it was. I love this place. I'm here atleast once a week and have had morning work meetings here. My go-to is the lean green smoothie, but I was also really impressed with the golden milk, charcoal milk, and CBD spiked latte. For regular lattes the coffee has too much of a bitter bite, so I prefer Pret across the street. I also appreciate the gluten-free options like rice crispy treats and cranberry scones. A good number of vegan options as well for those looking! Last but not least the service is great. I like seeing the same folks and hope the company treats (and pays) them well because they deserve it. read more

Pastries are pretty good but everything is very expensive and I have to say the iced coffee was probably the worst I've ever had. It was super sour. Not bitter like coffee... it's very sour tasting. I paid about $5.50 for a medium and unfortunately had to throw it out. I don't know if that's the way it normally tastes or whether it was a bad batch but I wasn't about to risk stomach issues. Awesome experience today at Gregory's coffee. It's a cool shop right in the middle of a busy part of town. I was first greeted by the manager, Jeff, who was super friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee. He hooked it up with a few samples of the various Cold Brews (all delicious but especially the Nu Brew) and recommended some beans for me to make for my coffee at home. I was impressed at how clean the store is kept and how friendly all the staff is. I left with a bag of beans and a delicious cold brew. I then sat outside and enjoyed my coffee on a nice day! If you like good coffee and a chill ambiance, I highly recommend Gregory's over a Starbucks or Peet's. read more
