I've been using Tire Kingdom in Sanford for just about all of my auto repairs for years but after…read moremy most recent incident, I don't think I will be back. They replaced my AC compressor a few years back and everything was working fine until about two weeks ago when my AC stopped blowing cold. I verified that the system was completely empty and could see oil dripping from my vehicles under cover. Unfortunately, my vehicle sits low to the ground and I don't have a means to safely lift a 4,383 lb. vehicle so I decided to take my vehicle to Brad Green at Green's Auto and Marine. We used Brad Green previously for my wife's vehicle, she also had a bad AC compressor. Brad did a fantastic job and got her back on the road the same day we dropped it off. Since then, Brad has moved to a newer and much larger location with more bays which allows his team to work on just about everything except European vehicles. While we were on site, he was rebuilding a Corvette LS motor and servicing two larger commercial fleet vehicles. Brad's diagnosis was that the tech from Tire Kingdom who installed my new AC compressor must have lost the OEM bolt that holds the compressor to the block. The bolt used was not the proper thread or length. The bolt held for a while but since it only caught 2/8" of the female threads inside the block and cross threaded the threads it did catch, it was only a matter of time before it would break loose. Fortunately, my AC compressor was still in good working condition. As soon as I noticed the issue I kept my AC off until repairs could be made. Brad re-tapped my block to repair the threads and replaced the improper bolt with one that is the proper length and matching threads. After evacuation and recharge, Brad had my vehicle back on the road again. My total bill was $436.03. Brad charged $189 for the Vac/Recharge, $135 for an hour and half labor, and there was a $16 charge for using a credit card. So, if you are looking to save a little, I recommend using cash. Brad was very friendly and informative. He answered all of my questions and walked me through all the steps required to diagnose and make repairs. He did not try to charge me for things I did not need, and he listened intently when I explained the sequence of operation leading up to my AC failure. Fair warning, during my visit I was a little worried Brad would not be able to get to my vehicle right away because he is currently only a two man show and has recently taken on a large fleet of vehicles, 300+ for a contractor that performs traffic control systems throughout Florida. Regardless, he was able to make same day repairs to get me back in business again, which I really appreciate; thank you Brad! All-in-all, I highly recommend giving Green's Auto & Marine an opportunity for your business if you are in the need for auto repairs. Brad and his team are honest, hardworking, and truly care about helping the customer, we will be back!

Update to my review from 7 years ago…read more Tom of Tom's Auto sold his business last year to Bayside Auto, another family-owned business with another location in Port Orange. The good news is that the name remains the same, and Tom and his mechanics continue to service autos as before. The best news is that they still only recommend repair and replacement for what is necessary at the time I bring my vehicle. The pricing is still fair and reasonable. My family and I have been dropping our cars off at Tom's for over 12 years, and I'm thankful to say that we will continue to do so whenever we need vehicle maintenance and repairs.

If I could give Tom's Auto Shop and a -1010293738198 star rating, I would…read more I am absolutely furious. This place is a nightmare. Do NOT go here unless you want to be scammed, ignored, and left with a broken car and a lighter wallet. RUN AWAY they do not care! The new owner ZACH is completely unprofessional. If I was lying, I would've just left a negative star review but I'm taking time out of my day to write this so read it if you want. Do not let these five star reviews fool you. This shop was bought recently! I brought my car in for an AC issue. I clearly explained to Zach that the AC blows cold air for about 10-15 minutes after starting the car, then switches to hot air while driving. That's a specific symptom. I trusted them to listen and assess it properly. Instead, they called me and said the Freon was "halfway full," which might mean a leak. They said they'd install new valves and inject dye to check for leaks. Fine. I agreed. Then they called back and said they saw no dye. So... no leak, right? Not only that there was no leak that they saw before they even did anything or touched the car they just assumed! But anyways that should've been the end of it. But no. My boyfriend picked up the car, and within FIVE MINUTES of driving, the AC was blowing hot air again. Clearly, they didn't test drive it. Clearly, they didn't verify if the issue was resolved. That alone is unacceptable. I brought the car back. I showed a mechanic the AC wasn't blowing cold. He felt the air, popped the hood, and immediately said, "It's probably the compressor." Just like that. No diagnostics. No testing. Just a guess. I left the car again. An hour later, they called and said it's the compressor and now it's $900. Excuse me? Why wasn't this mentioned in the first place? Why wasn't a full diagnostic done before charging me for Freon and valves? If I had known it was the compressor, I could've gotten quotes elsewhere to make my decision. But they didn't give me that chance. They piecemealed the problem, charged me for absolutely NOTHING, and then dropped a $900 bomb after the fact. Let's talk about the Freon. I asked for proof that it was low. They had NONE. No before-and-after photos. No data from their $10,000 machine. Apparently, this fancy machine doesn't even keep a history log. So I have zero proof that Freon was ever low or even added. That's shady. Then they tried to take ALL the Freon out of my car when I asked for a refund. I told them, "If it was halfway full, leave half in." They said they couldn't do that. So I told them to suck it out and put half back in. They charged me $105 for that five-minute task. I got a partial refund of $237, but I'm still out $105 for something THAT TOOK 5 mins! and have no proof that my car was even low of Freon. I'm 25 years old. I didn't know much about AC systems, and I trusted their word. But after doing my own research, I learned that if the AC blows cold and then hot, it's likely NOT a Freon issue. It's something deeper--like the compressor. They should've known that. They should've told me that. Instead, they took advantage of my trust and lack of technical knowledge. This shop is untrustworthy, unprofessional, and underhanded. I'm speaking with lawyers to see what can be done. The way they treated me was awful. And don't be fooled by the good reviews--they're from the previous owner. This place is under new management now, and it shows. They don't test your car. They don't assess the full issue. They just guess, charge you, and send you on your way. Then when it doesn't work, they hit you with another bill. It's a scam. Avoid Tom's Auto Shop at ALL costs. Protect your money, your car, and your sanity.
