I was super excited about trying the burger that won this year's burger of the week so I ordered it to go. I tried to order it to go during burger of the week, but was informed that I couldn't so again I was excited that I could get it to go, it is a hand patty burger with pimento cheese, bacon jam, fried green tomato. I show up and it's not ready that's OK they were busy. No big deal. The food comes out and i always check to make sure the order is not screwed up. I check my hotshot burger no fried green tomato. This is a important part of this burger and they don't have it. They're out of fried green tomatoes. However, my bill is paid, so they just stand there staring like what do you want me to do? I I understand it was not the bartender/servers fault however the kitchen should have done a better job of saying the main ingredient of this burger is not available before I ordered it paid for it and received it. That's poor management however, it's Macon so they have their usual regulars, and it doesn't really matter I guess? I showed up right at 12 noon and seated myself at the bar. Fully stocked bar. I was greeted quickly and made my selection of the Signature Burger The Grey Goose with well done Fry's. The burger is very tasty just as it comes. Retro style thick patty! Fry's were very tasty, could of been cooked longer because I really like real crispy Fry's. Service was prompt and friendly, and the food was delicious! I had the Reuben which was perfect. The bread was buttery and crisp, and the meat was lean. The sauce comes on the side for dipping which was awkward, so if I order the Reuben again, I'll ask them to put the sauce on the sandwich. My daughter had the chopped steak topped with brown gravy and chopped onions. She loved it! The interior reminds me of "the nineteenth hole" at a country club, and it's located in a shopping center that's easy to miss...I live in Warner Robins, so I don't know the area quite as well as the locals. There was only one "large table", for which I was thankful for, and it was strategically placed at one end of the room. Sometimes I just want to eat somewhere quiet, and restaurants who cater to too many large groups at once tend to be so noisy that it's hard to carry on a conversation. All of the appetizers seem to be made in-house, and they were all delish. I especially recommend the fried pickles. The Gooseburger is actually VERY good. The perfect size, the perfect temperature, and 100% tasty. The decor is a bit odd, but the bar side is very nicely done. The worst food & drink experience of my life. The food is pedestrian at best. We ordered apps, steaks, and drinks. Our server/bartender was a lovely lady, and I feel bad for her that she works here. The strange female manager was atrocious, and reminds me of an HBO prison guard. I can't think of a time in my life where I have been treated so rudely. We should have called the police. I can't give a lower rating, but I recommend not gracing this place with your presence. Manners and style must be "gone with the wind" in Macon, and I'm unsure this hole in the wall ever had any. read more

I eat here a lot for lunch but I just had dinner for the first time. First off miss Bobby is very direct and in your face about any questions asked! In my respect I ordered the seafood platter which the featured fish is Grouper. I've eaten Grouper a lot every species you're allowed to catch and keep or buy. This was snapper passed off as Grouper. Other then that the service at the bar was great and that's the only reason I didn't give them one star! I will not be going back for lunch or dinner anytime soon! A little too much old south bs. I read, at the present, all 28 reviews. Clearly some people are sheltered, and don't need to be reviewing anything, "bless their hearts" if you know what I mean. Now the food review - I eat here two or three times a year, sometimes more, when I have off or want the burger. I always get the "Gooseburger". It's not made of goose meat, like some idiot claimed, and no where does it suggest it is made of goose meat. The place is called Grey Goose, I can't help you if you don't understand naming conventions. Anyway, back to the burger - the goose burger is fantastic, inch and a half thick, and I always get the regular fries because they are true Southern home fries. Yes, they are greasy, that's why I'm here. Has it been great every time I'm here, no, but this isn't a five star restaurant and they don't try to be. Slow sometimes? Yep. But that burger, man is it good! It is pink in the middle sometimes, I like that and I'm not scared of it. Never had an issue here. Lots other good things on the menu, sometimes it fantastic sometimes it's ok. The place is always busy during normal eating times so that should tell you something. read more

Okay food. Fried okra was great. They have a cool fish tank. They claim they have goose burgers but it turns out they're beef and they just charge more because of the name. The server was a little strange, and literally told us after waiting 30 minutes "The foods going to be a while." I was late to a very important event, even after telling the waiter when I sat down that I needed to be there in 1 1/2 hours. My boss was not happy. I usually love the food but today was a different experience. The service was horrible. We had to ask another waitress to help us with an issue and then when checking out the lady at the register never said was everything ok or hello or even thank you when she handed the receipt back not ONE word. It was pretty bustling for a Monday night. The place packed to the gills with a "Murder She Wrote" kind of a crowd. Our waitress Lois brought us our menus and disappeared. Then we waited...and waited.Then and there I should have seen the trend for the evening. Once our drinks arrived, we ordered appetizers and our entrees, thinking it was best to take advantage of our waitress being at the table. Starting with a combination of appetizers, asking for our salads before our entrees. The appetizer menu read like traditional bar food. Fried mushrooms, fried won tons, fried jalapeno poppers, chicken wings, you get the drill. We settled on the won tons, potato skins and mushrooms as our appetizer. The rest of the menu mainly comprised of sandwiches and a trio of burgers. Chicken Strips, a Chili Dog, Club, and Reuben were all represented with an average price of seven bucks. A "Stir Fry" section left me wondering it's place on the menu. The ever present "F" word (fried) made it's way back prefixing "Seafood" and finally "Grilled Seafood and Steaks". I wanted to order a fair cross section of the menu, making sure their signature "Goose Burger" was included. Our other selections included a Grilled Chicken Stir Fry, a Ribeye, and the Grilled Salmon. Thirty five minutes after ordering our appetizers were brought out swimming in a basket of grease, an actual puddle of oil pooling underneath everything. The fried mushrooms acted like a sponge soaking up the oil, the fried won tons were indiscernible in flavor. The potato skins were the only thing that managed to be alright.we had already been there close to an hour with no sign of the salads that were to accompany two of our meals. The entrees were served , my Ribeye served with baked potato and much later the salad ($14.99) was far from rare as I had ordered it and fatty. A ribeye should have some marbling in it, but this had gross amounts of fat. I couldn't figure out how it could be over cooked and simultaneously be cold. Not only that, but it was clad with little bits of hard fat accumulating on the surface. The Chicken Stir Fry ($8.99) was tepid at best with crunchy bits of uncooked rice (thrown in for texture perhaps?) and devoid of chicken. The Salmon served with a baked potato and (finally) salad ($13.99) was adequate. The Deluxe Burger ($7.99) while only a tad dry was again only alright. With meals left not even half eaten, no to-go boxes were wanted. I think it would be an ok place grab a drink at the bar, but I wouldn't recommend dining there. read more

Loved the Goose Burger! One of the better burgers I have ever had. I was in town for a funeral, unfortunately, and we stopped by here for lunch...it was around noon on a Saturday. The place was pretty crowded but the service was good and fast. My boyfriend would have loved all the golf decor and the fact that golf was playing on all TV's....so pretty much any guy would like this place. The fried pickles were delicious...better than any I have had in Texas. And the goose burger and fries were yummy...but I think the best part was the sweet tea. I dont get good sweet tea in Texas..so I get it everywhere I can when I am in GA. And their's was definitely awesome. I will be coming back here for sure, next time I am in Macon!! read more

I have dined here many times. If you're looking for five star dining, that's not what this place is about. This is good food with a feel good atmosphere. The Blackened Grouper sandwich is always good and the onion rings follow it perfectly. The only negative thing I will say is don't go here with a large group, the service really seems to suffer. I just don't think they are set up to handle large parties of 10 or more and the waitress did not seem to be thrilled to be waiting on our party of 15. read more

I love this restaurant, I've been going there for years. It has so much character and you know its good because its been there since 1989. Its a place where the employees and patrons, alike, treat everyone like family. The restaurant is has both the traditional, "cheers" style bar on one side while still maintaining a family dining atmosphere in the main dining room. The two spaces are separated by a wonderful aquarium display. This is especially good for little kids who need something to keep them occupied while they are waiting for their food. The restaurant itself maintains a golf theme, probably due to its close proximity to the city's oldest course. Its a great place to come on game-day or to catch any kind of sporting event due to the strategically placed flat screens throughout the bar and dining areas. Also a good place for a quick lunch during one's luch break. The food fair is traditional American bar fair as well as seafood prepared in a number of ways and hand-cut steaks. I will agree with the last post, in that the steaks used to be terrible and often times poorly cooked, but over the past 3 or 4 months they have stepped up their game, only serving hand-cut choice steaks. Often times the weekend specials turn out to be a great value to have a salad, and an entree for well under $20. The weekly specials consist of soul food specialties like collard greens, pork chops (fried or grilled, i prefer fried) and mac-n-cheese. The appetizers are ok, but what stands out to me are their re-fried buffalo wings that are better than any that i have had in town. Then of course there is the famous Goose Burger, which has become kind of an institution in Macon, not quite the same degree as the Nu-Way wiener but an institution nonetheless. This 1/2lb burger can be topped with anything from chili, to bacon, to sauteed mushrooms and onions served with a side of french fries that have been freshly-cut in-house. The GGPC also offers a wide array of sandwiches, salads, and sides so that even the pickiest eater can find something on the menu. read more

Very low key place to have a drink, eat some good food and watch whatever sport is on tv. Moved in town and am very close to this place now so have started coming more often seeing as how I have not been since I was in high school. They have several beers on tap including Macon Progess, Stella, a couple of Sweetwaters and a few others. Good drink specials until 7 on weekdays. We love their fried shrimp entree that comes with a side salad, fries ans hush puppies. The shrimp is really good and the goose burgers are legendary in Macon. If you're in midtown this is a great place to go for lunch or dinner. We always sit at the bar and the service is excellent. read more

Five Star dining if your standard is a food truck. Typical of the area though, Chef Ramsey where are you?! If you are from out of town...don't go here. We stopped in on a Saturday night. My gf and I are avid golfers and we fit right in with genuine golf aficionados. However, strip mall atmosphere, local yocal, Georgia attitude and terrible food will make you want to think twice about this joint. I ordered the grilled chicken, frozen over done and just awful. The prime rib had obviously been over cooked, and over salted. There was no music, no atmosphere, we just left. Couldn't wait to log on to Yelp to rip this place a new one. Sad attempt at service, cuisine, and atmosphere. Locals have probably kept it going as a hangout spot. Good for them. I'll eat at a public golf course snack bar next time. read more

This is actually a nice little location. The name "Player's Club" belies the image of a golfer on the front door. So while it is a bar, it's not exactly a hole in the wall, with an almost country club type feel with lots of golf imagery and decor. Seeking out a real French dip, my girlfriend and I scoped the place out, and she was pleased with the atmosphere, even commenting positively on the music, which is unusual. I particularly liked the fish tanks and everything looked pretty clean. We went in late afternoon. There were a few people sitting at the bar but the dining room was clear. We got fried mushrooms that were pretty good themselves. Supposed to come with a horseradish sauce which I would have loved, but it had no kick, and my girlfriend mistook it for ranch. It wasn't ranch, but more like mayo base with maybe the essence of horseradish squeezed into it. The mushrooms were good without it though. My girlfriend wound up getting a French dip, and I got a black and blue gooseburger. That's what they call a hamburger. To my knowledge, no goose is in the meat. The meat isn't made in house though (I asked), so who knows. It's supposed to be a half pound, but I'll bet you all the goose meat in Canada the burger I got was a quarter or third pound at best. It was good, but I asked for medium. Now I don't wanna be "that guy," but I've worked in restaurants, and it's just annoying if you're going to the trouble to specifically ask what temp I want it. To give the cooks a benefit of a doubt, they do claim on the menu to scorch the burger, which was done fine, but I'm not sure they realize how it affects the temp. The food took a minute, which I kind of expected since we came in late afternoon. My girlfriend liked her French dip, and I tasted it and it wasn't bad. Preferred the flavor of my burger tho, even if it was overdone. The au jus was just funky tho. She didn't eat it, and I tried it but could get past the maple flavor. It reminded me too much of syrup. Glad I didn't get that, cause au jus's my favorite part about the dip. The waitress was really friendly, and by the time (I guess) somebody told her we were there, she was very good about keeping up with drinks and getting things out of the way. Tho it did take a minute to get drinks at first, I can't really say she caused that. I'd definitely come back around a similar time. I imagine it probably gets busy on the weekends, but it was a nice atmosphere when we went. The food was good, even if not quite what we expected. The prices were fair for what you get. But then, if the burgers were a legit half pound, or the au jus or horseradish was better, I would probably be spending a lot more here. read more

After a fairly long wait, our burgers were served but they were very pink in the middle. We requested mustard for the burgers three times before our server found time to bring it. In fairness, they were very busy at lunch time and it appeared there were not enough servers to manage the crowd. However, I suggest to anyone who eats here -- check your bill. Our server apparently didn't know the menu price for the burger, fries and drink and in fact still got it wrong after we brought it to her attention and we had to ask for an adjustment when we paid our bill. read more

I have been dining at Grey Goose Tavern for as long as they've been open. The food is always good and I love the many new choices to choose from. You can get anything from chicken tenders to a Rib Eye steak, and it's all good. I tried the Creme Brulee recently and it was delicious! There is always an insert with daily specials. Its a family friendly atmosphere, with a full bar on the other side of the dining room. Great place to eat!!! I highly recommend it. read more
