We ate here Saturday morning for brunch. This place is huge, so there is rarely ever a wait. The service is always excellent and very professional. Saturday we had the chicken and waffle, eggs benedict, quiche, and their version of the hot brown. The chicken and waffles were delicious! They are known for their fried chicken and this dish is all the explanation you need as to why. It was a large bonelss breast with perfectly fried breading on it - peppery and salty. The chicken was juicy and very hot when it came out. The waffle was also perfectly done and a large enough portion to eat with the chicken. Everyone at the table really loved their meals. The cheddar grits were just ok. The flavor was very garlicky and they were pretty stiff. The one thing about the chicken and waffles that I did not like - they served it with one of those single serving maple syrups that you find on the breakfast buffet at like a Holiday Inn Express. Seems like the effort they put into the chicken and waffle deserves house made syrup and maybe some hot sauce?? That part was disappointing. The portions here are really good so expect to leave full! I haven't been to this place since I moved to the NKY area nearly 20 years ago. I was surprised that I haven't been here sooner and was really glad I went. It was a late luch with my mother about 2:30 PM. We went during a slow time and were seated right away with no trouble. Our drink orders were taken right away and we were promptly served them. It did take a while for us to get our orders taken, but I can see that when they are minimally staffed and there is a lull in business. After the order was taken it took a bit of time for me to get my food. I was happy with the rueben that I was served. It was hot and juicy with the right amount of sauce. The only downside was that it was served with plain chips, not a good side at such a nice resturaunt. It does serve to an older crowd but for a lazy day off and lunch with my mom it was a good experience. read more

This place had the best fried chicken I have ever had. I'm from California and we had a very large party for dinner (40 people) and they accommodated us perfectly. The staff was very efficient and friendly and the food came out fast. We had plated of crispy fried chicken piled up and real mashed potatoes that were very well seasoned. I would say that one plate of chicken is enough for at least a family of four because it, along with the mashed potatoes, satisfied a table of ravenous teenagers. My husband and I have frequented this restaurant many times and found it to be very cozy. The service is fine but the food is overpriced. What really bothered me is if you want to share your meal there is a $3.00 fee. I frequent many restaurants in this area and this is the only one that has a charge for sharing. I thought I had stumbled into a retirement community when I walked in the door. We were the only ones in our 30's and everyone else was over their 70's. The only reason we stayed was because of the positive reviews, and that was a big mistake. The waitress was unbelievably slow and the food was not good. The worst part was we paid $70 for a terrible meal surrounded by wallpaper that has been there for the last 40 years. There were several times when we kept thinking we should be filming this place and submitting it to Restaurant Impossible so Robert Irvine could go nuts on this place. This place was very unassuming and a very local kind of place. There's a joke that they cater to the "blue-haired" crowd. Lots of senior citizens and the matching floral wall paper! This place has a history that is a little convoluted. I first heard it used to be an old greyhound station but then our server told us that it used to be a trolley stop in the 1920's and there were pictures supporting it. Apparently, this place was the last stop where the trolley turned around and they made a lot of money. Fast forward to the future... I order a double decker burger that was made from scratch that was delectable! I also order a half order of onion rings and they were literally the largest I have ever seen in my life! I found myself thinking where they would have found onions that big. The batter was not as full of flavor as I would have liked but the portion was impressive. Very inexpensive as our bill was $36 for three people. You really can't beat that at a sit in and dine kind of place. It was quaint with all types of memorabilia from its heyday and I thought it was great. If you are seeking diversity the menu is great for it the restaurant isn't however. Wow what a disappointment. Heard their chicken was amazing but I should have gone to KFC. Chicken tasted like it sat under the earners too long. I don't know if it was burnt or some weird spice they put on it but did not care for the flavor. Green beans tasted canned. On the bright side the cole slaw was mild and fresh. Came for lunch on a Saturday. It was only about a quarter full. Everything was fine. I had the chicken and Waffles. They were good but not great. The decor is a simple southern inspired and in some cases looks like the pattern you would find on your grandmother's couch. The price is good for what you get. read more

I was told a 20-30 minute wait for a table for breakfast and after 1 hour was told my party was still second on the list - a party of 2 for that matter. If you can't accommodate walk-ins do not take them. I'd rather be told we can't be seated than lied to and then after 1 hour having to walk out of the restaurant to go back and eat at my house. This is a true gentlemen's bar. Being from KY and going to school in Lexington, I appreciated all the horse racing memorabilia, Secretariat pictures and horse racing on the TV's at the bar. I came in with a friend to kill an hour and have to say I enjoyed this more than planned. It was 4pm in the afternoon, but still had a lively crowd and even though we were the youngest by 40 years no one discriminated. The bourbon selection was extensive and it takes a lot for me to use those words. If you are looking for a place to enjoy a glass of 15,20, or 23 Pappy, this is your bar. We ordered a bourbon barrel shout which is served in a bulbed glass and was extremely tasty. Went to the Sunday brunch buffet. For $16 per person I expected a high quality brunch. The food tasted decent but nothing special or what I could make at home. When I walked in, I noticed that the environment was an old fashioned. The menu had very southern style selections as well. Everything was decently priced. I ordered the Monterey Chicken, and it was delicious. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes and the hanky panky as appetizers. They were also very good. The reason I'm giving this restaurant two stars is because we had to wait 20 minutes for appetizers and 45 minutes for entrees. Also, for the majority of time we were there, our glasses were empty. Expect to wait for a table, unless you call ahead for a reservation. The bar area usually has a table open, but they do allow smoking in the bar. Host (older gentleman) was the worst I have seen in a while. Three of us showed up at 12:30 PM with no reservation and he seated us at the bar, while there were two open available tables unused the entire time we were there. Poor service from a young red headed bartender' not really his fault. Although he failed to provide silverware and napkins after we retuned from the buffet and also failed to remove the used plates, we stacked them up on the bar to make room' the kid needs to be trained. Moreover' he did poor job making bloody Mary's. Food was outstanding in my opinion, fried chicken was juicy, tasty and seasoned perfectly. Ribs were very good too. I especially enjoyed the blackberry cobbler, the woman who baked the cobbler is the kind of woman you marry. Many people sat there waiting for tables while I counted four other empty tables, I suggest you fire the host and hire anybody. Perhaps a semi-trained illiterate adolescent would be a significant improvement. read more

I'm glad that I had not read any yelp reviews prior to dining at the Greyhound Tavern this evening. I might not have tried the place. I thought the mashed potatoes were tasty and real! (as opposed to boxed or frozen taters) The open faced oven Turkey was tender, juicy and flavorful. The homemade bead was devoured by all five of us! The only disappointment in the meal was what they call stewed tomatoes, ugh, not! More like chunky, veggie stew, blech. Fellow diners enjoyed the chicken breast dinner, salmon entree, salad and wrap. Had to turn down the dessert menu, simply no room. We will be back. read more

Went to this restaurant based on local recommendations. First, the location is cute. The interior looks ok- clean and definitely country. We ordered fried green tomatoes, a personal favorite. They were ok. I have never had them served with pimento cheese on top and Ina tomato sauce. Seemed a bit much. Their fried chicken, I will say, is outstanding. Amazing. They should focus on that alone. The sides were municipal, like what you expect in a school or hospital meal. The chicken was the best. Service attentive. Me and my husband ate there recently. It was packed with people. It was our first time eating there. I really wanted to like this place due to the many good reviews i've seen. The decor is nice, but the food was eh. I ordered the fried fish lunch special that came with mac and cheese and green beans. We got some bread too which was good. The fish was good. The mac and cheese was not hot. it was room temperature and reminded me of what you could get from Stouffer's mac and cheese. Didn't really taste 'home made'. The green beans weren't the kind i particularly like. Tasted like they were from a can. My husband got the chicken sandwich and chips. The chips, he was hoping for home made kettle chips, but they tasted/looked just like ruffles potato chips. He said his chicken sandwich was alright. I was thinking this place would be 'down home' 'made from scratch' foods but was disappointed. I probably will not be back to this restaurant. read more
