Doc Holladay sandwich split for two
    Katie P.

We found this restaurant because it was on the list of places to visit for the B-Line trail. We arrived shortly after they opened and were seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. They have drink specials and Thursday was half off a vintage bourbon pour which my boyfriend was excited about. The Carolina Crab cakes which were fresh and had just the right amount of herbs and seasonings to make it light and highlight the crab without leaving a fishy taste in your mouth. We shared the Doc Holladay sandwich and the kitchen was kind enough to go ahead and cut it in half for us. It's truly the little gestures that show the staff are paying attention and care. Our seasonal cocktails were absolutely delicious and if it had not been late in the morning, we would have gotten a couple more. A great experience and we are looking forward to visiting again in the future to try more of their menu and bourbon.

This is brunch vibe for every aesthetic person on social media. Walking in there is a chill vibe and the staff is so friendly and you feel like you are at a friend's dinner party. We went with a group of friends, sat on the patio and played cards while we waited for our food. Perfect end of summer place. The drinks were delicious and refreshing without tasting too strong. The Bee's Knees is my personal recommendation as I think I had two during brunch. Usually I measure a "southern" style place by the chicken and waffles and this was no different. The chicken was crispy the way I like it while still being juicy and flavorful. My only critique is the size of the waffle I wanted more to balance the chicken pieces. Will be back and ready to try something else on the menu.

Went to libby's for lunch yesterday, and of course, chicken was great. My shrimp and grits were overcooked, unfortunately I've had before, and to say the least, it's never consistent, unfortunately. I did let the waiter know when he asked how things were, people need to speak up at that time. He apologized, and I told him I had before, and it wasn't the same down to the little pieces of tasso ham in it. The check came and he discounted my meal as I was ok with that because I did eat the shrimp but it was different.

Some good fried chicken and sides!

There are two stops on the B-LINE for fried chicken, The Purple Poulet and Libby's. You need to eat at both. Very different environments and ambiance. Both have delicious chicken with its own flare. I ate a late lunch at the bar. Not crowded so the bartender, another patron, and I had a nice conversation while I ate. The chicken was hot, crispy, flavorful. The sides were good. They cooked it order so it was fresh but the breast was a bit dry. Not overly so, but a 1-star hit. Libby's is a diner-style place with bar seating, as well. Varied menu. Parking can be a pain in the area at some times of day so give yourself time for dealing with that.

Went here for a Valentine's Day brunch and unfortunately, I won't be coming back. The service and staff were friendly, but the taste and quality of the food were very disappointing. The deviled eggs tasted off, my father even found an eyelash on his plate and said his food tasted gritty, and my breakfast was extremely greasy and bland. Overall, the food felt very basic and not worth the experience. The drinks were good, which was a plus. However, we were seated outside and were freezing the entire time. The heater kept being turned on and off depending on other guests, so it was uncomfortable throughout our visit. The outdoor ambiance also didn't feel inviting or pleasant. Thank you, but this just wasn't the experience we were hoping for.

Excellent service and nice patio area. Our server was always nearby and even apologized when she was busy. The only thing to complain about was how loud the outdoor patio could be with all of the trains passing by. Food was excellent and I really enjoyed the appetizers. For the main entrees we received large portions of everything.

Ordered Charlie Brown (aka Ky Hot Brown)-ok for the price_at least 2 servings. Ordered the shrimp & grits -do not recommend Ordered fried green tomatoes to start. Good portion served with pimento cheese & onion jam. Suggest putting the onion jam on the side with the pimento cheese. Service was pretty fast; good lunch crowd.

Nice eatery near Braxton. Pleasant atmosphere, staff is very friendly and attentive. Food was really good and the service was quick. We'll be back for sure. Small parking lot and street parking. A 3% charge is added if you use a credit card.

Excellent service and tasty food. I arrived early and had the Bourbon Cheerwine Slush while I waited. It was unusual, delicious, and felt very local. The server let me read in peace and checked on me a few times, but did not make me feel rushed, even as tables started to fill. Once my friend arrived, we had another round of cocktails, also excellent, and the goetta hush puppies, which were far better than I expected, as I don't even really like goetta. Not a lot of vegetarian options, but they do have a few dinner salads which are well-presented and make a good meal. Don't miss the scratch made oatmeal crème pies for dessert.

First of all the ambiance here is amazing! Doors open and there is a nice breeze blowing thru. Drink menu seemed to have a lot of rum items. I got shrimp and grits but it was loaded with fried French onion stick things and the shrimp was too charred. My bf got the fried chicken which he said was the best fried chicken he has ever had and that's saying a lot as we are travel foodies and he's a chef! I wish I would have gotten the fried chicken. The service was good but a lot of young staff so take that as you will. Nice place for dinner overall.

Fried chicken and mashed potatoes live long in my childhood memories so it was a natural choice for this year's birthday dinner out with the fam. And I was looking for a place with great fried chicken with a couple steps above the "we serve the world's best chicken out of the back of our garage" kind of place. Which led us to Libby's. Excellent dinner all the way around! We had 2 orders of the two piece dinners (one light, one dark), one BLT salad and one chicken thigh dinner. The chicken dinners were outstanding. Good sides -- mashed potatoes, black eye pea salad and collard greens -- not outstanding, but really it's the chicken I was there for. The chicken thigh dinner was reported to be excellent by hubs, with sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Oh! And we started with the Big Dipper app which was crostini with 3 different spreads: feta, crawfish and pimiento. Delicious! My favorite was the crawfish- nice light flavor. Salad was deemed delicious. The menu changes so don't count in what you see online (the chicken thigh dinner wasn't listed online though I assume the standards stay consistent). Just go and know you'll find something great. We made reservations on a Saturday night, and were directed to an outdoor, plastic'ed in room -- it was ok. The main restaurant has more ambiance but is quite small, tight and maybe more noisy?? Let's call it "bustling". Our waitress was super - nice, attentive, friendly. There's parking attached, on weekends. We would definitely go back next time fried chicken calls our name!

    Half chicken + 2 sides

Stopped in for Restaurant week and got quite the bargain for $36. Fried green tomato appetizer, half chicken meal with 2 sides and an oatmeal pie desert. The oatmeal pie was the best part of the meal. All vegetable sides are made with pork, so I tried the blackeyed pea salad (yum!) and macaroni and cheese (weakest part of the meal). Chicken was well seasoned and a huge portion. Biscuits are the reason you MUST try this place. Flaky, buttery and melt in your mouth.

We had a lunch reservation for a Saturday and were seated right away after checking in. Wait staff was truly friendly and accommodating, bringing us menus and a high chair first thing. We ordered the fried green tomatoes to start, and they were phenomenal. Thick sliced, crisp, juicy, and topped with chunks of bacon and a large scoop of pickly pimento cheese spread. We loved these, so did our baby! For entrees we ordered the 2-piece fried chicken with a leg and thigh, along with Mac and cheese and the green beans. Everything was hot and well-made, just like I was eating at home. We also had the shrimp and grits, another excellent dish. The shrimp were covered in blackening and they were unbelievable. Perfect meal!

Ask the Community - Libby’s Southern Comfort

Are they doing bottomless brunch? (March 2021)

Yes, I believe it's 20 per person for the mimosas.

    Can you make Reservations?

Yes, just call the number on the website.

Are there any gluten free options?

Looking at the online menu, it doesn't look like there is a distinction for gluten free options, making me think the salad menu might be your best bet.

The place is small and had a very weird vibe between fine dining and kitschy. White tablecloths, but then lots of purple and pictures of roosters everywhere (I realize the name, but hmmm). Our server was lovely but would disappear for too long between times when she should have been present. We ordered our drinks at 745pm, and I watched them sit at the end of the bar. Finally, at 805pm, I went to the bartender and said, "those are our drinks that have been sitting there for a while". Our server brought them over like we ordered them 5 minutes prior. But the lovely owner/manager came over and said the "drinks are on me" because we waited so long. We appreciated that! The fried chicken was good, but the breading was very salty. The green beans were almost inedible because they were so salty. The mashed potatoes were average. The biscuits were fantastic. The fried deviled eggs were okay. A regular deviled egg is better. The shrimp and grits had a lot going on. The shrimp was lightly battered and fried (?) and the flavor of the dish was bold. I think sauteed shrimp and a little less gravy would make it perfect.

Love. If I can use…read moreone word to describe my experience at Soul Secret, that's it. Love Amore Besotted Take great people (Melinda was our server and the chef came out to check on us...more about Melinda later)... Combine it with great food and great ambiance, and you get this restaurant! The first thing that you notice when you walk in is that it feels like home. Some restaurants focus heavily on decor and leave a lot to be desired in terms of ambiance, the people, and the food. And in other restaurants, you walk in and feel as if you can stay there forever. This is one of those places. We stayed there for a while. Imagine being in Grandmom's living room with pictures on the wall and positive music playing in the background. That's Soul Secrets. The menu is big enough to make sure that everyone can find something to eat, but not so big that you will struggle to make a decision. From fried catfish and grits to French toast to salmon croquettes and the largest pancake on Earth, there is something for everyone. My niece ordered the French toast, and my sister ordered a special breakfast that came with a pancake, grits, eggs, potatoes, and sausage. I was still hungry from last night's meal, (and you can read about it in another review) so I just nibbled off of my sister's meal. The French toast came out first, and I could tell immediately that the chef knew what she was doing. The rest of the food came out, and again, they brought the largest pancake I've ever seen. My sister was treating us today, and I was glad that the menu prices were very reasonable. My niece said that the French toast was delicious, and she ate as much as she could. She has a dance performance tonight and made sure that she didn't put her show at risk. It was difficult for her because the food was so good, but she managed and took a box home to eat it later. Yes. My sister nibbled on everything else and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the grits and some of the pancake, and I have to say that it was very difficult for me to stop eating because it tasted so good. The pancake was perfectly cooked and fluffy with crispy bits on the edge. The grits were creamy and flavorful, even without cheese. The coffee was great. I had several cups. All in all, it was arguably better than any breakfast I've had at any restaurant that serves it. Now let's get back to Melinda. So often, the dining experience can be directly related to the person that greets you when you take a seat. Thank goodness we were greeted by Melinda. She has one of those energies and personalities that makes you feel as if she has been in your family for years. Funny and friendly, but at the same time, dedicated to making sure that you have a good experience. Again, I felt like I was at someone's home rather than in a restaurant. She called me a "troublemaker," which means that somehow she was seeing the 20-year-old version of me instead of the person that I am today. lol So here's the summary. If you are in Cincinnati and you want a great meal, there are many restaurants to choose from. It appears to be a pretty decent restaurant town. But if you want to FEEL Cincinnati, while feeling right at home and having one of the best meals ever- Soul Secrets is one for the ages.

We hadn't checked on the website, but found out Thursday is oyster day, with $1 oysters and fried oysters and $1.50 for Oyster Bienville. The fried oysters were delicious. The raw oysters were good, though I had one that was gritty. We are going again in two weeks and will try the Oyster Bienville along with other assorted oysters. Two of us had the special Pan Seared Sea Bass. It came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The crisp on the top was delicious and the fish itself was delicate and moist. It did indeed melt in my mouth. The potatoes were very good, though I didn't finish all of them. The greens were good. Mark had a ribeye and is still raving about it today. He ordered the preparation version made with just salt and pepper. He also had a cup of gumbo. He said it had an amazing depth of flavor. We wrapped up with dessert. Three folks had Key Lime Pie. I opted for Karma's Opera Crème Cake. Oh my goodness, it was huge, sweet and delicious. I tried a bit of key lime and it just didn't compare. That said, those who had the Key Lime Pie loved it. Not only would we return, but we have the date already scheduled. I'm looking forward to trying something different.
